This has been the worst experience I've ever had with a storage company. Our unit has flooded multiple times, and while we were offered a different unit, it was only at our own expense. It is moist and mildewed in my unit and smells when you get off the elevator. Then in February, we were robbed, and we just found out TODAY 7/19/ 2025--months later--when we discovered a brand-new Public Storage lock on our unit. We reported that our key no longer worked, only to be told our UNIT had been broken into. Shockingly, they had video footage of the robbery. Even worse--they never contacted us and failed to file a police report, despite knowing that several units, including ours, were hit. We were told someone allegedly rented a unit just to get the gate code and access other units. The contract they make you sign conveniently removes all liability on their end, while prices keep increasing--I'm now paying nearly $500 a month. Their only solution? "Call the insurance company." Absolutely unacceptable. At this point, I'm questioning whether this is an inside job. Beware of this company. read more

I have been on the hunt all week for a very specific storage unit size with no luck--until yesterday morning when one finally became available. I didn't waste a minute and headed straight over to check it out. That's when I met John, and let me just say: he's the reason this review is getting five stars. From the moment I walked in, John was welcoming, patient, and incredibly helpful. He took the time to answer all my (many) questions, showed me the space, and even offered smart, practical advice on how to move in efficiently. His level of customer service honestly blew me away. To be completely honest, I've never had high expectations when it came to Public Storage--past experiences at other locations were less than stellar. But John completely flipped the script for me. I actually had two other reservations at competing storage companies that I fully planned to visit, but after meeting John and seeing the Cotner location, I canceled them on the spot. That's how good the experience was. If it were my business, I'd consider John a top asset. Someone give this man a raise--he's setting the gold standard for customer service. read more

I recently vacated a Public Storage unit in Los Angeles I had used to keep some furniture for the last year. Upon removing the items a foul smelling, orange liquid had leaked into my unit from an adjacent unit. Most of my items were wrapped and, fortunately, unaffected. However, my 9x12 area rug and queen size box spring were both damaged and rendered unfit for use due to the amount of liquid that had soaked into them. I was required to purchase insurance in order to store items here via the Orange Door Storage Insurance Program. My claim was denied by that program and I was informed that only water damage from flooding, tidal waves, etc were covered. This area of Los Angeles is not at risk of flooding or tidal waves and I question the value of an insurer who covers unlikely events and will not account for the loss of property caused by another unit's spillage into my own. I recommend caution when storing items here due to the poor insurance coverage that you are required to pay for. read more

Facility is great, storage space was what I needed and easy to access. On-site manager (on-site in a building 1 block away), John, was friendly and helpful. Access through the app or gate code is nice, and the facility feels secure. Location was convenient for me to access and enjoyed having my stuff nearby. Building is clean and they provide wheeled dolly/carts on-site to move your stuff around. Things were going great until the gate broke and it took a week to fix the access. You could still get in but needed to call the manager to come over from around the corner. At the same time, the cost of monthly storage was going up 40%- this was after 3 or 4 months! Because of the inconvenience, they delayed the increase for another 3 month. But then, another 3 months later, the monthly rate increased again! to about 78% over the initial price, about 9 or 10 months after moving in. I moved my stuff out this month- facility is nice but not worth the current cost and a fee that apparently goes up every 3-4 months,in my opinion. Shame on me for not doing more in-depth research- while the prices aren't listed as promotional, they are also not guaranteed for any length of time and I'm sure it's all in the contract. But if you choose to rent here, keep in mind that the advertised rate changes quickly and once your stuff is there you'll be paying a lot more than you planned pretty fast. read more

This is not a knock on the persons that work at the facility. It's about the value and management of this location. I had my unit broken into. Zero cooperation even though they have cameras. The insurance service will ask you to provide receipts for items you purchase years ago. They reduced the access hours by over 25% and yet, no reduction in the rent rate which is over $500. The regional manager literally told me that I'm month to month and I'm free to find another storage unit if I'm not satisfied. That was her literal response when I asked why There isn't a discount since we're getting less for our money. read more

I came here the other day to help my friend moves his stuff into his storage unit. We came around 7 PM, and the office was closed. The way to get in here is to have your personal code. Once inside, you have a parking lot with about ten spaces. Since my buddy had a trailer, we pulled up dead center and proceeded to move everything to his unit. The first floor units are located beyond the left-most door when you drive in. The upper-level units are divided into two sections of the building. One section is reachable by taking the elevator located in the parking area. The other section is reachable by taking the elevator located by the first floor storage units. This place loses two stars because the dollies are locked up after the office is closed, and the only other alternative is bringing your own dolly. Another negative aspect is the fact that there are no restrooms accessible after hours. On the flip side, this compound is kept very clean, and the patrons are mostly educated West LA locals. read more

This place is gross. Don't get me wrong, I don't expect a cheaper self-storage facility to be squeaky clean, but it would be nice if it was at least sanitary. If PS tried even a LITTLE, this would be a much better experience. The bathroom is next level disgusting and unsanitary, with caked feces and urine all over the toilet, a layer of dirt, dust, and who knows what covering everything, and the door doesn't shut. Furthermore, there is a "no dumping" policy, even just for trash, yet they have a (locked) dumpster on the premises just to taunt you (in my opinion). Why even have a dumpster if no one can use it? When asked, the staff told me about other dumpsters belonging to other businesses in the area that I could use. Does this make any sense to you? Why am I paying to use this place where I have to hover over the toilet to pee and am locked out of the trash can? MY ADVICE: Pay a little more for an efficient storage facility where you have a lower risk of contracting tetanus. read more

the website and the signup were painless and the manager, john, could not be nicer or more helpful. he even found me a better rate and gave it to me because i had reserved online (better than the walk-in rate). the place is clean and well run and the building i am in requires codes to get in and out of garage and for elevator access. spaces are reasonable for the price and access is a breeze. they even have a bathroom in the garage. the building i am in is also climate-controlled so it is ideal for things like musical instrument and clothing storage. recommended. read more

John Whyte, the on-site manager, is really terrific! He could not be more helpful, or knowledgeable or polite in dealing with people who rent storage units at this location. I only wish that corporate HQ was a tenth as good as John! I've rented several Units at this location -- the first one going back some 40 years. And irrespective of what happens with the general COLA's or CPI's the rates always go up every year -- and almost always way way way in excess of the general increases in the CPIs and COLAs. And when one tries to talk to a 'live person' to ask for delays in those increases (which on past occasions have been available - generally for a year), it now takes forever, numerous phone calls, to get the name and contact info for "the right" person. And that "right person" is now no longer the least bit accommodating. I DO understand that storage costs can and will periodically increase. But I mistakenly assumed that the periodic increases would bear some reasonable relationship to increases in the CPI or the COLA. Not so! At least not with Public Storage. Again, John Whyte is terrific! Unfortunately, Public Storage is not! read more

My goodness, this place terrible. Firstly, i had a Horrible renting experience, I reserved a place and then it got booked.. even though I reserved it. Fine, okay. Found another unit, $50 more expensive.. annoying but okay.... I've been renting here for 5 months and the cost just went up $30 per month. They said they sent me a piece of mail (no email confirming cost change) but I never received it.. I called and asked why, the customer service guy said they can change the rent at ANY time. I asked him to see if he can make an adjustment and HE HUNG UP ON ME!! I feel so taken advantage of, not heard or respected. Avoid if at all possible. read more

The woman manger here is extremely rude and unconcern to the costumer's questions. She canceled my reservation and ask me to get all my stuff out of the storage place as soon as possible. I had a very unpleasant experience here. The sale person made me a reservation but the manger denied my reservation saying the sale's person only give me the storage space because they can get commission. Hope the company can coordinate the sales person and the manger at the actual store. read more

We were renovating our house for the past seven months and had to put a number of items in storage. Every time I went to the storage unit, there were vagrants inside the facility. I never felt safe. Indeed, I always had someone accompany me to my unit because of the number of people loitering in this facility. To be fair, there were never any incidents with the loitering people nor were there incidents with my belongings but I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this facility. Further, even if you vacate your unit one day past the 10th of the month, Public Storage will not pro rate your rent. This is an absurd policy. If you vacate on the 11th, Public Storage keeps your rent and can rent the unit to another person, thereby receiving double rent from the 11th to the end of the month. This policy should be revised. read more

I selected a random storage unit in LA because I don't really know the area and feel like I lucked out here. After a long day of moving and driving, the property manager LaRome was very attentive and helpful. He was the only one working at the time and since it was the last day of the month (when lots of people are moving), the place was pretty busy. He made sure to give each customer equal attention and made me feel like a priority even though he had several other customers to attend to. LaRome answered all my questions and took the time to thoroughly explain how the gates and codes work and where my unit was. I look forward to experiencing that kind of customer service again!! The building is also very large and there's several different entrances to different units so it can be confusing but LaRome made it a stress free process. read more

I do not have a lot of storage facility experience but my company has a unit at this location and we have never had any issues. LaRome is very friendly and has always provided us with excellent customer service. I was there this week and one of the elevators was down but there was another elevator just around the corner that worked. They have been very patient and helpful with us whenever we are there and there is always plenty of parking near the elevator. There is usually somebody in the office to answer my calls but I also understand that it is a small location and the small staff may not always be sitting at the desk but working on the site with other customers. read more
