I didn't want to give it even 1 star, but I had to in order to post my review here. I had rented a storage unit from Public Storage in July 2025. I had some questions, so I called the number I had called when I rented the unit. I couldn't get anyone on the phone even though I called over 20 times that same day. Since I couldn't get anyone on the phone to speak with, I wanted to cancel my unit. I had received an email regarding winning $500.00 and all I had to do was give a review about Public Storage. I filled out the review form and since I wasn't happy with the customer service and not being able to speak to anyone, someone named Kim called me back. I told Kim the reason for my review and that I wanted to cancel my reservation for the unit and I wanted my money back. Kim told me it would take 5 to 7 business days before I received a refund. I did receive a full refund and I thought that was it. Now, I am receiving emails saying my unit is not locked and they sent me a bill for storage. I never received any code or the keys for the storage unit, so I had no reason to store anything there. I called them today and I kept asking to speak to a supervisor because I had spoken to a few people and was getting nowhere. Finally one rep named Shawn told me that my account was never cancelled and that is why I was getting the emails to pay. I told him that I received a full refund from Kim, but he kept saying there was nothing showing it was cancelled. I asked Shawn to transfer me to a supervisor and he was transferring me to a supervisor and before I knew it, he hung up on me. I called back and repeated to the new rep the reason for my call, and that I wanted to speak to a supervisor. I was never connected to a supervisor. I even made an appointment to go to the office and was told my appointment was for 9:00 am. I went to the office at 8:45 am and it was after 9:00 am and still no one showed up. I called the number listed on the office door and a female answered and I told her I had a 9:00 am appointment with the storage manager. The female told me that the manager is probably running a little late, maybe got caught in traffic. She said she will send the manager an email saying I was there waiting. I waited until 9:45 am and no one ever showed, so I left. Why have an office at the storage place if no one is ever there? I am not paying for a storage unit that I cancelled and never even used it. DO NOT RENT ANY UNIT FROM PUBLIC STORAGE, THEY HAVE THE WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! read more

History

Established in 1972.

The first Public Storage building opened in El Cajon California, but the new business was only supposed to be temporary. Two partners pioneered the concept as a way to use their real estate investment while they waited for the Southern California community to take off and value of their land to grow. They kept building, and people continued to fill their units. Eventually the pair realized that self-storage was here to stay, and they never looked back. Today, there are thousands of neighborhood Public Storage locations to choose from, many right around the corner from you.

We went to finally clean it out yesterday and the place is disgusting with bugs. We had dead bugs all in our unit, all over our boxes, they were stuck in the tape to some boxes, huge bugs dead under stuff and inside our stuff, and some sort of water or chemical damage to a violin case that we had in our unit next to the door. There were mouse traps out in the halls filled with bugs as well. I have to vacuum my car to get all the ones that fell off in it while transporting our stuff to our house.
