My storage unit was burglarized and all my belongings were stolen at Public Storage on Vermont Ave. Customer service claims they have no video of the burglary despite having a dozen working cameras all over the property. I made a reservation on 8/3/25 for 8/24/25move in date online which they stated no obligation to rent. After completing the reservation a page pop up and saying to lock in to the rate complete this, which I did not knowing that they are already going to start charging me for the whole reservation. The next day 8/4/25 I found out I will not be able to make the move so I called to cancel the reservation. I was refunded the $1 1st month rent and the lock for $20. However I was not refunded the admin fee of $29.00. Its not stating on the website that if you will not be able to get the admin fee after you completed the lock in rate process. I was told by the customer service agent name Michelle that it was on the contract agreement which I thought is ridiculous for someone to read through because its not just 1 page they sent you pages and pages of documents. What Public Storage should have on their website is that a warning or notice: TO CUSTOMERS ONCE YOU HIT THE "ENTER " BUTTON TO COMPLETE THE LOCK IN RATE PROCESS YOU WILL BE COMITTED TO THIS AND THE ADMIN FEE IS NON REFUNDABLE. But instead they will make you read the multiple pages of document and you will not be able to notice the " nonrefundable admin fee" statement. I have been through a lot of transactions online but never been like this. I should have known that once you gave your payment method information you will be charged instead of only putting a hold until the move in date. July 2023 - $211 Starting rate with no discounts Oct 2023 - $349 First bump not even 2 months Jan 2024 - $419 Beginning of the year July 2024 - $524 New rate next month. This storage location is not safe for anything. Not your belongings. Or furniture. Or musical equipment. Or autos. Or anything that you want to keep as your own. This is how your property gets stolen. At 6pm, the employees in the front leave for the day. They do not sweep the property and ask anyone still there to leave. So anyone on the premises is essentially unsupervised and on their own. The employees know this. If you are not in cahoots with the employees, they will send you a message upon your departure. Please don't stay past 6pm anymore, it says. But their accomplices? They stay -- late into the night -- and cut your lock off your unit door -- in a way that the insurance will not cover your loss -- because there is no Breaking In to the property. The employees will claim you have to change your locks -- New Policy -- and what this really is is a loophole for the insurance company. not to pay the claims of those insured. And then the accomplices to Public Storage employees? They steal your things. And the next day, despite all the cameras, the employees will claim: "There is no video." Every. Single. Time. I went to the storage to pick up my boat. Just to find out my boat got vandalized , they stole my radio and speakers , and amplifier. I went to tell the man in the office, he said they weren't responsible. He said I was the first one to complain. I even told him if he could check the cameras , he said no. Bad business. I've tried to give this location many chances to improve their customer service. It's mind blowing how this location still employs people that have no sense of urgency and customer service. If you are not a people person, do not work with people. Point. Blank. Period. Kody lacks the skill sets required of a manager! He is rude, lacks proper communication skills and very unprofessional. If it wasn't for us customers you wouldn't have a damn job! He even gives us a hard time to borrow a cart. The carts are here for the customers to utilize yet we have to argue every time we ask him to unlock it! My daughters, friends and myself decided to meet up the same day so we can help each other move our totes into/out of our units. You're only allowed 1 cart per customer but we have a total of 4 units, that belongs to 4 different people and yet he said we can only use 1 since we all know each other. That didn't make any sense to us... let's just say his true colors came out that day! Another issue with Public Storage is they charge you a full months rent even if you move in mid month or last week of the month. This is the only storage, that I'm aware of, that doesn't prorate the rent when moving in. But what can I expect from Public Storage, all they want is your money. We can't wait to get our things out this pathetic storage place! This is not our first interaction with Kody and probably won't be our last until we move our stuff out of this location. I'm not sure if it's because we're women or because some of us are minority women. I thought this place is as bad as it can get. No, it isn't. It's not the employees, it's corporate. Their computer system programmed by infants bouncing up and down on keyboards just put in ANOTHER phantom bill for "fees and other charges, due immediately," of 79.15. When asked what it's about 1) they won't tell me; 2) they're incredibly rude as usual; 3) they further threaten me to FINE ME IF I DON'T PAY THE MYSTERY CHARGE. Like me, a former civil trial attorney with 35,000 hours experience, I have NEVER seen this, and neither has the rep of my bank I spoke to. Since public storage REFUSES to give me anywhere I can have it out with them on writing, and go to war over their insanity, my bank agrees with me I should pay this unexplained COMPLETELY bogus phantom charge, wait til it posts, THEN dispute it with them and that way PS will be FORCED to put it in writing. I have never seen in my life a billing system go this BERZERK with false charges, but they care about their renters not one whit, so I guess it makes sense. If you rent from any public storage, even this one with nice employees, IMHO, you will have lost your mind, so please don't complain if they do, they gift you with soap on a rope, and then you act "surprised." If you look up Orange Insurance class action lawsuits, basically, IMHO as a civil fraud attorney, my opinion is that it's simply not only a fraud, in terms of kickbacks, bouncing back this "independent" insurance company which is really just them, back to them. And on top of that, purported facts of the suits show they RARELY pay out on the most obvious signs of break-in. I watched one video of a lady who's COMPLETE DOOR WAS REPLACED, AS WAS HER ORIGINAL LOCK, SHE FOUND HER ORIGINAL CUT LOCK INSIDE THE UNIT, AND THEY STILL REFUSED TO PAY HER HER INSURANCE MONEY AFTER EVERYTHING INCLUDING WASHER AND DRYER WAS STOLEN! All my things were tossed about- gone thru, thrown on the ground..a mess. Interesting enough I rarely come down. And had not been back since October. You see I live in Rosemead,CA and commute to Carlsbad,CA daily. But decided to visit today.. The Sheriff Dept also took pictures A Burgalry report #917-00569-1698-078 was filed along with Supplemental loss report for items taken from burgalry. Raymond L (Shift Mgr) took pictures an also Reported an Incident / Damage #(WS01608) along with The Sheriff Dept's. This is truly unpleasant & unfortunate. Now I dont feel safe having my things at your Public Storage facility #21608. I dont get it - A secured, code entry....? Yet, my unit has the lock picked...? No log of my coded entry history ? Change of Owner Management ? Possible Descruntal exchange ? Your Facilty is Very unsafe for Tenants. YOU have Too Many Blind Spots. And Far Too Few Cameras !!! Makes No Sense- This location makes a good profit. Old building refitted, etc.. And a Rental Increase?? For what reason? I've had items stored here for well over 3 years and have never had a problem until last week. I received a phone call stating my unit (along with several others) had been broken into. Before writing this review I took a minute to look at other reviews and realized this facility has been broken into a number of times within this year! What are you going to do about this Public Storage? It's ridiculous to find out that burglaries are occurring so frequently. One time should have been one time too many. Do something. Most of the items in my unit are obviously items I find irreplaceable and I'm unwilling to part with them at the moment - which is why I pay $147 a month for a small space. I'm storing junk - but I'm paying YOU to store my junk...and I believe I'm paying you well enough for you to respect that and take it seriously. Where is my money going? Why don't you have a better security system? How dare you take my money monthly without investing part of it towards ensuring the safekeeping of my items! I will continue to store my items here for the time being but I expect full compensation and an apology for your recklessness - and not from your front line staff (who are awesome and helpful) but from upper management. You need a better camera system (they couldn't even get the guys license plate), more cameras (too many blind spots), and you need to have security patrolling during off hours (dude snipped the gate chain to get in). I will be waiting patiently for a response. Yelp users, obviously you take your chances storing items at any facility and I wouldn't steer you from this site even though I'm upset that my unit was burglarized. The staff here is very friendly, extremely helpful, and they've always been great about anything and everything. There was even a day when I couldn't remember if I locked my unit correctly and they had no problem checking it for me when I called. Do not store your car here... I stored my car here starting from the middle of May 2014 to January 2015. Here's a brief break down of my experience. 1. The first day I tried to store my car in my spot, another car was parked in my area. Since the office wasn't open yet I had to park my car in the general parking area. My car was there for a whole month because I was out of town and couldn't move my car. 2. One time I came to pick up my car and use it for a week. I didn't use my gate code to get in or out of the parking area because there was a car before me when entering/leaving public storage. I had my car out for three days before someone called me about my car. Here's how the conversation went... Employee: Hi, Lark. This (I forgot her name) from public storage. We were wondering if you had your car, because it's ummmm... (Awkward pause) Me: Yes, I have my car. 3. While my car was stored here someone keyed my car and stole my tags. I gave this place two stars because the employees are nice and I'm thankful they called me about my car being gone (even though it took three days). Should rename this storage yard to: Crack-Head-Hobo-Land. ==DO NOT STORE ANYTHING OUTSIDE AT THIS SITE== I had purchased an RV that was stored at this Public Storage Facility (24180 Vermont, Harbor City CA ). Multiple break ins and theft occurred on the RV over the course of several months. They had broken a window and proceeded to spray paint the inside and were removing most things of value (TV's, stereo, copper wire, canned food, alcohol, aluminum awnings...... etc... etc..). Of course the outside was spray painted as well. I'm sure they were even living in the RV - they left me some hobo poo in the toilet. One time, I had bought four new expensive RV batteries only to find them missing on my next visit. After my second complaint to management they told me they were taking "reasonable" security measures and then proceeded to increase my rate - eventually to sky high levels - I think I peaked out at $270/month and that was two years ago. At that point the damage to the RV was more than it was worth and I had lost all hope. Walking through the lot at the time I noticed that 100% of the vehicles on the lot had been broken into 100%!!!! They should at least warn people before they let them store anything outside. I should say that this RV was a very nice RV in the not so distant past. The prior owner purchased it for $27,000 in ~2009. It was a 1983 double wall steel, Bluebird Wanderlodge 35 feet long with a Caterpillar Turbo Diesel. Now that I had given up, I had to somehow get rid of the RV to end the pain once and for all. The obvious decision was to haul it to a junkyard for scrap, but I first informed an internet Bluebird forum that I was willing to sell any parts they may need. After many parts were removed, the last fellow wanted to remove the internal cabinetry (framing and all). I said OK, but the bus would be his and he would have to take over the storage fees. He agreed, so I wrote up a Bill of Sale, handed him the pink slip and walked him directly to the rental office. I signed a release and left the new owner (Jeffrey Parrott of Dana Point) in the office - both office staff and Jeff agreed they were good and I was released. After a few months, Public Storage begins to send me bills, late fees and collection notices. Jeff was granted access to the lot by the office staff (they provided him with a code - I did not) and they accepted his $ for approx. 2 months. Than he must have stopped paying........ Jeff had now completely gutted the interior. Now I was left with a giant shell of an RV that I didn't even own and Public Storage still wouldn't let up. I was now in a pickle. You see, the RV was never in my name, I had passed along the pink slip from the prior owner with a bill of sale to Jeff - and Jeff was no longer responding to my messages pleading for the paperwork so I could stop the Public Storage bleeding me of my money. Public Storage stated they did not have a release form with Jeff's signature - so I was still on the hook....!!!!!!! I was forced to wait a couple more months to get the legal paperwork to junk it and than paid off the crazy fees the Public Storage had piled upon me. What a horrible, but valuable life lesson I learned. What prompted me to write this review is that I noticed a Nice RV recently show up where mine had been parked. I can see it from the 110 as I go to work. Sure enough, a couple days go by and I can now see their passenger window has been busted. !!! I think Public Storage has a legal obligation to at least warn customers that they will be subjected to theft. At least until they secure the perimeter. read more

The onsite staff were friendly and personable during the paperwork phase and have remembered me by name each time I have returned to access my storage unit. One of the benefits with PS over other storage companies is that you do not need an appointment to get inside and access your storage space. This location is also quite clean, with a clean restroom for tenants. The only drawback is that the carts for moving heavy or large items are locked up and outside regular office hours, you have to make special arrangements to make one available. I am not planning on having my unit very long,but so far it has been a great experience. I absolutely reccommend. read more

My fee at public storage started at $130 month.. then a couple months later it went to $160, then $190 and now $216.. they will email you when they are raising the rates, but as far as customer service, they fail.. here is the reason why... On May 2 2018 I went into the office and talked to the employees and told them that I no longer needed the storage and what do I need to do.. The response was I got was " just have all your stuff out by the end of the month" so I emptied the storage unit the 26th of May.. i ended up calling the office after the holiday weekend to follow up . Since I was only told to take my stuff, I close the unit and locked it. But because the lock was still on the unit, I was charged a months rent. $216.. for june.. I spoke to the district manager Araceli McMahon-Mendoza 310.607-9415 ext3105 . She tells me that I was supposed to tell the employees that it was emptied and they would verify that is was in fact emptied out and clean... So because I didn't do that , I am getting charged for June.. I then talk to her boss Ken 310.341.2820 and he states that they have no way of knowing when emptied the unit out.. again, i explained that I personally asked their employees what I need to do to move out and was not correctly informed.. I feel that this company did not give me all the information I needed and now I am responsible for another months rent for a unit i did not. I made every attempt to move out by talking personally with their employees. For a publicly traded company, they sure do stand for their own beliefs that are stated on the website "we care.. our goal is to ensure 100% customer satisfaction. Very friendly staff that is there to help you out, the facility is very clean and each of the storage units are nice and secure. The unit I got which is 10'x10' I got for a very good monthly rate and when they opened the unit for my inspection the unit was recently cleaned and the floor painted so it looked really good. The restroom I used while I was there was nice and clean as well. I searched around for a good Public Storage and this one really stood out from all of the others, from where I live I probably pass three or four other Public Storage places but it is worth the drive with the great pricing and the fact that this facility is very well maintained compared to the others. read more

The lock was picked. The sheriff acknowledged that this happens all the time. Orange Insurance (owned by Public Storage, so don't YOU buy it) doesn't consider a picked lock forced entry so they are doing their very best not to pay a penny. The security here is a joke. They stole my working tools and copper wire. I can't replace this. Do not use this storage facility. My friend has shopped a lot of U.S. Storage facilities and they have better security and even managers who live on the property. Give them a shot. Better yet, do you really need to keep all of that stuff? read more

This is NOT a customer service oriented business. The employees seemed very polite and helpful when we rented the unit but dropped all pretenses of concern and fairness after taking our money. In fact, they raised the rental fee after we signed the original rental contract. When we rented the unit, my daughter was going through a very difficult time. She lost her house and was forced to store her valuable furniture and belongings...even her children's keepsakes. When I discovered her account was in arrears, I attempted to reach the manager for that storage facility but found him very difficult to contact and unwilling to consider payment arrangements. Therefore, I contacted the Public Storage corporate office and getting a response from them turned out to be equally difficult. In fact, they would not return my calls. In the end, after attempting to make payment arrangements, all of my daughter's belongings were simply auctioned off. I called several times and inquired about the process, and no one was honest enough to advise me that I could attend the auction and purchase the belongings myself. Her entire household, her possessions, and much of the history of her daughters was sold to someone for $50.00. I believe this is a scam. Additionally, they refused to give my daughter a valid receipt proving the purchase price which leads me to believe even further that this is a planned scam Public Storage has with particular vendors. We were advised the buyer of the contents of her storage unit would be asked to leave personal belongings but none of her personal belongings or her daughter's keepsakes were left. The entire facility and the unit itself was dirty and poorly maintained. It took Public Storage months to get an electrical problem fixed so she could have light in her unit. When trying to organize her belongings, we were forced to work in the dark...with a flashlight...for months after requesting repair to the unit's light.
