I went in yesterday very frustrated with the service I received at the 1295 E Lake Street location the manger Leandra was very unhelpful and could not be bothered with me. I drove to the Hanover Park location 1000 E Lake Street and the manager DJ was so helpful. He really went out of his way to assist me and made sure everything was taken care of with my unit. After making my third payment, I just received notification that my monthly cost went up $100. During my first month of occupancy, the wall between my unit and another unit was blasted open and knocked all my shit over. It would be extremely inconvenient to move now so I guess I gotta suck it up. What an absolute shit business model this place has. I wouldnt rent here. my rate increased by $70 in middle of winter, which doesn't make sense because they said they had trouble renting my space out because it was the biggest one. so i decided to leave. I was told I had til the end of month to get my stuff out but wasn't allowed access through the gate unless someone let me in. there's almost no one there when you need someone. if you call, they call you back days later. read more

There is no possible way this company has 5 stars. 4 years ago, I was moving out of state and needed a place to store my things. I signed up for Public Storage and thought I had found a good storage company. Not even a year later they started increasing my rent. I even asked when I started if this was a fixed rate, and I was told that it could change in a few years due to upgrading the facility. Here we are 5 years later, and they are trying to bump my 33 payments to $100. a 196% increase. I came home to see the facility and it still is a complete dump. No cameras, no upgrades, NOTHING. I've tried a few times to call their facility and I've been on hold for 45 minutes every time. Do yourself a favor and don't trust this company. Don't give them a dollar of your money. They are crooks who won't hesitate to take advantage of your business. read more

We pulled up to the Hanover Park PS at 4:50pm on Saturday not realizing they closed at 5pm AND we wanted to see a couple different sized units AND we were with our crazy screaming kids. Ryan was SO nice to us and did NOT rush us at all. He stayed after hours so that we could start moving into our storage space right away. He was very professional and even recommend our dinner location...Wing Spot, YUM :) The facility was very clean and security seemed tight. Thanks Ryan! read more

I was using this facility for approximately 5 months and my only time visiting the facility was when I first filled my unit and upon move out. When my moveout happened I was rather shocked with what I found. The security gate guarding all of the storage units was wide open with no employees working the office at the time 7AM on a Saturday (see picture). Next I arrive at my unit and it's snowed in (see pictures) Now I could understand this IF we hadn't had a few days in the 40's and no snow for a week. Unfortunately the door rope was frozen in a crack between the foundation and asphalt. I had to make a trip to Meijer buy a knife, cut the rope and continue unpacking the unit. Not having to go in and out of the unit very much left me with little exposure to this place so perhaps I caught them on a bad day. The fact is if you aren't going to clear out the entry way for your units then you better provide your CUSTOMERS a means to do it for themselves. I wonder how many nights that gate was wide open for anyone and everyone with an angle grinder to open any of the units. read more

Actual unit sizes are 25% smaller than advertised. They increase rent 25% just a few months after you move your stuff in. Shady.

Started using PS for garage items as I went through renovation. Rate was $47/mo at the beginning. That changed to $60/mo after 6 months. Now, 6 months later, rate going to $79/mo. Contract says that they can change rate with 30 days notice, and they will change it on you. I will be moving items to another storage facility that has fixed rate. read more

I filed a complaint with the BBB. I have been a customer for 6 months paying the same amount each month and my bill increased %31.25 this month! This increase is absurd, so I called customer support to see if there was an error. I assumed it was an error and thought they meant to apply a %3.125 increase, not %31.25. Customer service informed me that this is normal business practice and the corporate office increased the price due to new customers willing to pay a higher price and that the unit I have has a higher move in price now. They didn't offer any solutions and kept quiet, allowing me to process what they didn't say; If I don't like the price then deal with and pay it or leave. There was no escalation path, nobody beyond customer service to contest the increase. This increase is price gouging without justification, it's unchecked shameful greed to raise the price so high that current customers will vacate for potential higher paying customers. This practice forces the customer to consider the time and effort to vacate. Once I realized the time, effort, and money required to remove my property I found myself feeling like a hostage where all I can do is comply with the increase because another person was willing to pay more. Somebody has to put this company in check. Imagine if your taxes, rent, mortgage, interest rates, food, or cost of living expenses increased by %30. I understand that prices marginally increase over time, typically each year by %1-%3. The resolution I seek is a billing adjustment that is fair for all of us. If an increase is honestly necessary, raise it by %1-%3 not %31.25! read more

The units have very heavy doors and just about all the units leak from the roof. The people behind the counter where really nice but can not do anything about the rate increases that happen every 6 months or fixing anything. Talking to the district manager was a waste of time also. They are just looking to take your money , not help you. read more

It honestly takes a lot for me to write a review, I am typically way too busy to even bother with it, but my experience here was absolutely amazing. DJ and Caitlin were extremely friendly and made my experience painless. When I got there they had my spot ready and they helped me fill out all of my paperwork and answered any questions I had. They were extremely knowledgeable. I have dealt with a few public storage facilities in the past and this was BY FAR my best experience. I would recommend this location and Caitlin and DJ to any one of my friends or family because they were truly salt of the earth people that were a great help in making my storing process extremely simple with no headaches. Bottom line is I would recommend them and this location to a friend or loved one and I will be storing here in the future for any other storage needs I may have. Thank you DJ and Caitlin! read more

Sherise was very helpful. I stored my car there for six weeks while on vacation. As I was by myself, I used the train station in Hanover Park which is about 1.5 miles away to get back to my home in Chicago. The car was stored outside, but it was in perfect condition when I returned. They were very informative so I had no surprises. I would use it again. read more

We have two lockers at this facility- and we really like that it's controlled access to the building. They have carts to unload/load. The aisles are wide enough to bring in your stuff. Micki got us in/out quickly during the registration process. read more
