I have been a customer for over 2 decades. I am NOT a business. My storage experience and needs have all been out of personal family tragedies. In this location I have been through several hardships not limited to 6 times broken into my 3 units no follow up by SPPD Detective even with suspects in custody, no contact or help from site management or regional manager. Insurance is absolutely worthless an for of extortion as it covers little to nothing. At times a strong lack of staffing, misinformation. Electrical issues Elevators Out of Service for Days causing additional expenses due to rented trucks and personal fees lost due to inaccessible. Broken entry doors, glass and off the hinges. Now mind you this has occurred of some period of time and does not reflect on the current or former site manager Laura! When I started years ago my rent for my 10x15 was around $235 or so as of today 10//10/2025 the same unit is $675 Mind you the only thing that ever changed were roll-up door and units door locking cylinders were changed due to high thefts as a lack of unsecured site property entrance. My two 10x15 units are currently $406 and $351. This is straight Pimping the tenants with non business storage needs. NOT HORDERS! NOT COLLECTORS! SUFFERING FROM DEATHS, FAMILY TRAGEDIES, EMPLOYMENT AND HEALTH ISSUES. NOT ASKING FOR A FREE RIDE BUT THIS IS UNREALISTIC GREED AND GOUGING OF PERSONS IN DIRE STRAIGHTS! read more

I've had multiple significant rate hikes within my first year using this location. Be prepared. I would recommend if you can find a rate even twice or three times this rate somewhere that you are guaranteed that rate, consider going that route if you know you might need space longer than a month or two. read more

We planned to be long-term storage renters here. We asked when we came if they kept the rent reasonable for long term tenants, and they bald-faced lied. But we soon found out that Public Storage's company policy is to keep jacking up the rent until long-term loyal renters are paying way over the market rent that new tenants pay! At a certain point we decided that our considerable moving expenses would be recouped by moving to a place that appreciated long term tenants. Security Public Storage promised that they don't do that, and have kept their promise. Plus the units have individual alarms. This is a strange business strategy. We'd taken advantage of a move-in discount, and rented a prime 10x20 drive-up space for our business inventory. When tenants leave they give discounts to the new people and may have vacancies losing rent. It doesn't make sense to drive out steady long term payers. But we're happy with Security Public Storage now. One bonus was free dog poop. We saw people bring their dogs, and I'd find poop in front of my door. When I asked management to clean it up they denied it! Told me to clean it up. read more

He not only gave me a map to where my unit is, he even gave the courtesy of showing me the unit first hand & helped me transfer to a bigger unit when I noticed I needed a bigger unit. (Not helped move. Not their job!) I forgot his name, this was a month ago. I'm sorry. (Would be rude of me to misname) Thank you again sir. The elevator seemed tricky at first. I had a 10x10 unit that I needed to downsize from. Devonte helped me find a 10x5 very close to my original unit, so as to make the move easier. I needed to move to a smaller unit because the corporate business model is to get you moved in, then JACK THE RENT WAY UP after you think you've got your business done and your goods stored. So, I did downsize, and, as I said, Devonte was very helpful and answered all my questions and facilitated finding the smaller unit. Another employee, Laurie, was also helpful in doing transition on my auto-pay. I don't blame the employees, but be aware that this company will wait for you to move in, then raise the rent two or three times. My 10x10 went from $147 up to $340+ in less than a year. So, a 3 star rating is a compromise. Good employees, terrible corporate business practices. read more

This place has jacked my storage unit rent up twice since January. It's not even close to competitive with other similarly sized storage units in the area. They're banking on people being too inconvenienced or unable to move. It's predatory and awful. From $400 something to $734. The lady next to me told me they had jacked her rent to over $800. This should be illegal IMO - it's awful. read more

I would not recommend renting a storage unit at this facility. The staff is unfriendly, or just not present. I have twice needed their assistance during business hours and they have been nowhere to be found. The rent keeps increasing and then when I need to use the services I get terrible customer service. I have also called the 1-800 and they have also been unhelpful. Find another storage facility this is too expensive for the poor customer service provided. read more

I rented a unit for a few months and was quite impressed with the center's layout and customer service. We had some trouble operating the elevator on our first day, a gentleman that worked there named Davonte was quick to help and very helpful! On our last day, we were emptying the unit and Davonte just happened to be doing a walkthrough through the center. He stopped to check in on us and made sure we were doing ok. We let him know we were closing out our unit and he was able to walk us through the closing procedures and save us a trip to the office. Thank you Davonte!! They were very helpful in selecting the right unit and gave me a terrific rate. They were very polite and professional. They also helped me when I forgot the code and quickly came to my aid. Several issues starting with the always increasing monthly charges. I just got an email telling me that in one month's time my renal for a 10'x20' unit will increase by $984/yr ($82/mo). When I first got this unit, I was paying $339/mo. High for what I was getting but I had few options. Now they want me to pay $552 for the same unit--a 63% increase! And to pour salt in the wound, when I first got the unit, there hours were 6 AM til 9:30 PM 7 days per week. Now they don't open until 9:30 in the morning and they close at 6 PM (5 PM on Saturdays and Sundays). We were forced to purchase their insurance (at $11/mo) but when my unit was broken into (with more than $5,000 of stuff stolen), the insurance company refused to come through until I could prove that the unit was actually broken into. I was supposed to show them a cut lock. What the thieves did was steal PS stickers off of other locks and tape them to a new lock, they cut my lock, stole my stuff and replaced my lock with the new lock with the taped on stickers. Because PS management wanted me to wait close to two weeks for their district manager to show up with a set of bolt cutters, I had to spend nearly $50 on a pair of bolt cutters just so I could get into my unit to see what was stolen and file a police report. At that time, there was no trace of my old lock. Even though I was on the fourth floor, I was covered for floods but not for theft. When I cleared my unit to relocate, I found the cut lock up against the back wall where the thieves had tossed it. I'll be looking for a new unit elsewhere where the hours are more conducive to the customer having access and where the price will be more accommodating. I already have such a unit. The unit I have right now is 200 sq ft and they want $552--that's $2.76 per sq ft. The other unit I have (elsewhere) is 320 sq ft for $350--that's $1.09 her sq ft. The move will be time consuming and costly but I will have better access and the cost will be substantially less. I warn everyone to stay away from Public Storage. read more

I've written about this PS facility in the past--most of it negative. This will be another chapter in that saga. First, let me tell you about the recent 13% increase in the rent of my unit. PS loves to jack up the rent because they know how hard it is to relocate. I'm only paying them $4,752 per year for my one unit--to store stuff that isn't worth half that much. I need to reconsider this. I've already mentioned the transients that live on the Caltrans embankment right behind our access portal. This was one of the reasons that PS recently cut our access hours in half (meaning we often have to take off work to get to our stuff). Even though Caltrans recently reworked that embankment, the gate is wide open and there are three large holes in the fence to allow the transients easy access to the facility. The main reason for this review, though, is yet another theft of my stuff (which cost me more than $450 to replace). I had a large plastic storage box (a tool chest) holding four large percolators and associated gear that I brought from my unit to the elevator while I went back to my unit to grab some more stuff. Someone stole the box. I called the front office about this to see if anyone might have turned the box in. The PS associate told me that nothing had been turned in. When I started to describe the box, she hung up on me. I was out in Concord at the time of the call but when I returned that afternoon, the front doors were locked. I came back at 3:10 and there was a sign on the door saying they'd return at 3:30. I returned at 3:40 and the sign now read that they'd be back at 4:00. I returned at 4:15 and the sign was gone but the doors were locked. I went up to my unit, checked on a few things and when I returned to the office, the lady was there. She admitted that she was the one I spoke with earlier. There were no apologies for the theft and no offer to look at the security footage to see if she could spot the thief taking my stuff out the doors. There was something in the air that suggested she just didn't care (that was the feeling all day long). Let's review things: Our access has been cut in half, the rent increases keep coming even though their expenses have gone down, security from the transients is still an issue and things keep getting stolen. Oh, and the customer service ranks at the bottom of the list. read more

I was very pleased with their customer service. Front desk was helpful, I was able to book it online with phone access to the unit . Although ,it said I had ground access I was on the 3rd floor , So I needed to take the elevator. They do have giant carts & dolly's to put your items on which is convenient. Overall it was a great location, clean & well lit . I would recommend this place and use them in the future. read more

They waiting until the middle of the start date to send info but when I arrived neither the access code or the map was activated. And no one was on site to help, nor did anyone answer the phone. I would like to present my positive view of this Public Storage, where I have a space. The manager, is very efficient for the following reasons: - She is very resourceful meaning she has the right answers to all the questions asked by the tents or prospective tents. She is also very respectful to all races. -She is very professional in convincing people that The Public Storage is the best one. -She keeps not only the lobby area clean and organized, but also caring about the cleanness of the units' floors and parking lot. -She make the tents feel safe by walking around to every floor. I have seen her going to the floor where a tent is moving out, and it made me wonder if she wanted to make sure that the right unit is getting empty. In conclusion, she cares about the Public Storage and their tents. Congratulation to the district manager who picks up a right manager. I have a message for the district manager, first please remove those PS's pictures of dirty areas, which was posted long time ago. There have been good managers who cared and there were manager who did not. There is a good manager again and the entire area has been very clean for a long time now. second, please keep the current hours because it reduces the chance of breaking-in. read more

I have a lot of experience with using storage facilities both large and small the past several years in both the South Bay and now the East Bay. Although the employees are solid here and the place appears to be well-maintained, my gripe is that I just received a notice of a 31% increase in my storage after just 4 months of renting a space. I am used to rental adjustments of maybe $20 at a time, but going from a little over 200 bucks for my rental to almost 300 is outrageous!!! I could see if there was something economic driving this (like the price of gas), but there's really no excuse, they are just gouging their tenants because they can. BEWARE of these companies who offer competitive rates to start and then BAM, you're gonna pay more sucker. read more

Beware of Public Storage! I reserved a unit online. The next day I showed up with a rental van full of furniture expecting to have a smooth move in. The front door to the office was locked and there was no one to be seen inside. I went back to my rental truck to try and call their office but it just kept me in an automated loop, unable to talk to a real person. Finally I noticed an employee come to the front door and unlocked it without signaling me they were open. So I get out and walk in and was immediately and rudely told by the man behind the counter (Lamont) that I could not be in the same warehouse sized office with him if I wasn't wearing a quarantine mask. I said it wasn't mandatory to wear masks in public and I was standing more than 6 feet away. He insisted I wear a mask or I could leave. I told him I had a reserved rental unit and a rental van right outside ready to be unloaded into my new unit. He again insisted I wear a mask or he would not help me and that I could leave. Lamont offered no alternative and said I could go elsewhere to find storage as he would not help me. After much back and forth he finally relented as I had already spent time and money just getting here just to be told to go away unless I could suddenly produce a surgical mask. Finally I got to the end of the rental agreement and noticed a $25 "administration fee" tacked on to my bill. This "fee" was not mentioned on the website or was very well hidden. The old 'bait and switch' fee. So I was basically charged $25 to argue with a Pubic Storage employee. Fun! Lamont finally showed me to the unit I had rented. Or at least he pointed wordlessly and vaguely at a hall of roll up doors. I asked him if there were carts available to help load in and was told no, the carts were locked away so people can't use them. I guess Public Storage didn't want to pay to have alcohol wipes or sanitizer so no carts for paying renters. So thoughtful! So after lugging heavy furniture to my unit. I put on the padlock I had brought and got the hell out of there with an ample amount of buyers remorse. A few hours later I got a message from Lamont saying he had forgot to give me my keys and lock for my unit and I could come back tomorrow and pick them up (don't forget the mask!!!). I called back the next day and was told I wasn't allowed to use my padlock and was only allowed to use a Public Storage lock that I had to purchase for $21. No I would not get a refund for returning the specialized lock after using it. The lock would fit only Public Storage doors so after you moved out it was trash. Another hidden fee not mentioned on the website, sign in paperwork, or even by Public Storage employees. Another 'bait and switch' grift by Public Storage. Don't EVER consider renting a unit from the scam storage chain. I was told even if I moved out the next day I would still be charged for the worthless $21 lock and $25 admin fee. Public Storage uses sleazy business tactics to drain your wallet and makes sure your move in is as unpleasant as possible. read more

Well for the public storage at 3255 San Pablo Dam Rd San Pablo, CA 94803. I just joined and I had owned many storage u it's before but this was the first one where the staff especially Davonte were pushy and rude. My first day getting the unit I meet with him and he keep trying to push me out as I asked him for help he talked so fast and was not taking the time to go over the procedure of the facility and then when he got me out he then didn't activate my code so when I went back now talking down to me as if I was stupid. But I was willing to move past that but on the day of my move in I got to the storage unit thirty mins before closing and of course here comes Devonte again already trying to push me out saying you have to leave 15 mins before the property closes. So I load up the units have everything in the elevator and out of no where Davonte pulls my stuff out of the elevator and says you have to go with still 15 mins before closing he has now emptied the elevator with my last four piece I needed to put in my storage unit. As I ask him for his kindness to just let me put it in as their already in the elevator still pushing nooo and beginning to be rude as he dragged my property out of the building. I understand people have no patience but you need to treat people with respect and using this public storage I strongly recommend going anywhere Else because the staff that I have meet will treat you with poor and have no sense of customer service skills. read more

Security here is of concern and the rents increase each year are pretty steep. Add the very short operational hours and it's a tough sell. But I'm commenting here because there is no COvid/masks signs on the entrance. I've seen many people and families enter the business mask less and use the elevator. Since the virus spreads through aerosols especially in enclosed spaces, this is very dangerous. There's a sign for "2 people per elevator " which is regularly Ignored but none regarding mask use at all and certainly no enforcement. The staff has always been nice and helpful. But It's unsafe and I will not be using space until the pandemic is over. read more

I had a reservation for a unit here. They were very professional & courteous on the phone. There is absolutely no place to park by the office for moving trucks; I had a 14' truck and had difficulties maneuvering. They claimed to have tons of space to park down below where the units are; but it is so tight. The worst about it was that when I was ready to move in after signing the contract, I found out they do have elevators. But only 1 person at a time can use them. So, if there are more than 2 people moving in or out at a time, then you must wait for someone to finish before you can start. Then, I waited that 15 minutes & when I went up to the unit with a load, I found out there was a lock on the unit! I told the manager that I couldn't wait around to move and needed to do so now, and requested to receive my money back. He yelled at me & said NO, you signed the contract and the contract stipulates a 30 day notice. I informed him that I had not had access to the unit so I hadn't moved in. He yelled again NO, you signed a contract. I informed him that I read the contract & nowhere on the contract does it indicate that you must wait until someone was done with the elevators in order to use it. He said TOO BAD. read more

tl;dr: Storage worked, employees are awful and I would never rent here again. The storage unit I used worked just fine -- the two months my things resided there were fine. Nothing got damaged or stolen. However, my interaction with staff there completely soured me on this location and most likely all Public Storage if we're being dramatic. When I reserved over the phone and completed paperwork in person, Public Storage employees told me of the carts that are available for use. That's super helpful when you have to load from the parking lot, into the elevator, from the elevator and down multiple hallways to your storage unit. After taking off work early and loading up my boyfriend's truck, we schlepped out here with a complete truck full of stuff. I pop into the rental office to ask for the hand cart and the woman rudely informs me that it's too close to closing and I cannot use it. We had arrived there at least 45 minutes before closing. I was polite and practically begged to just use it for 10 minutes and promised I would be back before closing. She said absolutely not, said it was policy. Now if it's "policy," wouldn't you think that's something that would be shared with the renters when they check into their storage unit. I can understand why they wouldn't want to loan the hand carts out close to closing but you HAVE to tell people that ahead of time. So what did we do? Moved everything by hand and it was absolutely awful. When I first checked in and signed all the paperwork, the supervisor told me the woman who was checking me in was new and would I mind leaving a positive google review so she could get more sales. I was completely thrown off by that -- have me review something before I event speak with the woman for more than two minutes? I said sure but it didn't end up working on my phone. The new employee was perfectly nice but not knowledgable about all things Public Storage. I can appreciate how hard it can be to memorize lots of information. While she was trying to sell me on packing items, I felt I could have sold them better and I didn't even work there. read more
