Heather and her team are AMAZING! I was able to get a decent price on a 5x5 unit which is normally MUCH more expensive. Heather explained everything in great detail and provided me with a wonderful tour. She let me know of the times I could access the facility, when the gates would open in the morning, when they close at night, etc. When I took the time to read through the contract, she gave me the time to do so, which I really appreciated. Paying online is incredibly easy. You don't HAVE to have their insurance, but it is recommended by them. I thankfully have renter's insurance that covers me worldwide so I didn't need their extra coverage. I was able to go online to my account and cancel it easily. I only paid for it for an additional month which wasn't that bad. They let you know when your payment is coming due if you're not on auto pay. If you are late, you do get hit with a late payment fee, but they tell you that upfront. I am very happy to have my items stored there. read more

Got a storage 1year ago at 199.00 - then 2 small increases - January2025- increased again to 283.71 - just recieved another email for another for another increased for May - 375.00 a month for 10x15 - so in a year's time - rental went up 176.00. They are not part of the BBB - but I will complain to them. They might be friendly, clean​, and secure - but for any long term renting - no justification for these increases - I'm on a fixed income and this certainly doesn't make life easier - I will gave to move my stuff to another place waiting for senior housing. ... read more

Been renting since 2016 and the cost of my unit has skyrocketed to about 350% of the original cost in 8 years. However, Cliff helped me easily downsize to a smaller unit yesterday and I was able to get back down to an affordable level. Cliff was personable, efficient and knowledgeable. He was really great. So, I'd say to customers: stay on top of those price increases! But if you need to change units to fit into your budget, they make it easy to do so. read more

The business is sketchy. They get you in with low teaser rates then raise your rent 10-20 percent every 6 months. It's silly to have to switch storage units to get the low advertised rate you signed up for 6 months ago. The storage facility itself is clean and safe but their pricing policy is too annoying to recommend. read more

1. On Twitter they posted a Big "Thank You" to all of the wonderful essential workers, however they are still charging a $30.00 late for this month. This month is horrible for myself and the millions of other Americans out of work. I paid as soon as I could... 4 days late but still got the $30.00 late fee. 2. BTW, know it now, they WILL raise your rent 15% - 20% every 6 months. Last March 2019 my 5X10 unit started off at $136.00 and now 1 year later, it's $176.00. (That's a 30% Increase 1 year later.) 3. Also the first day walk thru with sales person I noticed a strong moth ball smell and even mentioned it, her reply "Really? I don't smell anything". It still has strong moth ball odor as you walk through to my unit. That's 3 strikes, will be looking for another place ASAP. read more

Being from out of town, we went by the ads and the reviews to pick their location in Rockaway. NJ. Not sure who is writing the good reviews but this place is completely unacceptable. Smell of mold & mildew drove us out of the building. Leaching from water is visible on the walls. We had to get a refund, which took forever. Customer Service is useless. Do yourself a favor and pay a little more for a better place. read more

Sell all your stuff now. Based on my experience with this company, the stress you will incur is not worth the material value you have placed on your stuff. I moved up here in Feb. '15. I got a small apartment, but everything wouldn't fit in my space so out of desperation I went online and secured a storage unit here. The unit I got was on the second floor. It was, at the time, the only 5 x10 that was available that was 'climate controlled'. The unit I got was oddly shaped as it had a large portion of the unit taken up by the back of the elevators. It was not 5x10. Out of desperation I took the unit. A few months after I rented the small unit, I got transferred. I had to get a bigger unit to move my apartment into. A 10x10. The weekend I moved, was mid month. I was told I needed to redo all my paperwork AND I had to buy another lock. Another lock that works on nothing but the 'Public Storage' units doors. I expressed that I had already paid for a lock but they demanded I get another. So, now, I have 2 locks at $20+ each and one unit. I had told them that I wanted the 2nd half of the months payment to go towards the new unit. They demanded full payment up front and said they would look into getting my half month pro rated and maybe credited to my account. My account was never credited. So, about this 10x10, I thought this would be fine as I would acquire some warehouse racks that measure 9'6'' and I should be good to go. I would be able to get my apartments worth of belongings into a 10x10 with warehouse racks on the side and furniture in the middle. Well, I got racks, and they didnt fit. The unit was not the advertised 10x10 it was less than 9'6"x9'6". Awesome! I got transferred back into the area and didn't require the 9'6"x9'6" of space I had and got I a 5'x10" By this time your wondering why I'm still using the disservice provided by Public Storage, well, I travel a lot, this property is near where I work. I digress, I got the 5'x10', Once again, it was mid month. Once again they demanded full pay for the new unit even though the smaller unit was cheaper. Once again I requested the pro rated amount I had already paid for the bigger unit be credited on the smaller unit. I got the unit on a Sunday. I went in on the following Monday, the very next day and asked for the wrong to be righted. Heather said she would ask her supervisor. I told them, 'well, at least I have the bigger unit for the rest of the month'. I was quickly informed that the unit had already been taken out of my name and they had put their lock on the unit. Did you catch that? They're not going to reimburse me for the remainder of the month and that they had already put the unit back into circulation. My new unit is on the 3rd floor. I was thinking if the units on the 1st and 2nd floor are 'climate controlled', the 3rd floor temperature should be okay. I was wrong. It's hotter than blazes up there in the summer. You could use the upstairs as a sauna. It will slow cook meat up there. If you get a storage unit up there, stay hydrated, and only go up there few minutes at a time during the summer. I'm sure any wood furniture you have in there will crack from the heat. If you go up there in winter, dress warmly, very warmly. The rate for my 5x10 was $82.39. I got a letter dated November 29th stating that effective Jan 1, 2017 my new rate would be $97.37. That's $14.98 more each month, that's about a 17% increase in rent, for no reason. I talked to some of the other renters and they confirmed that Public Storage has a history of randomly increasing rent. Many of the renters are not happy with their business practices. On December 28th I got a letter saying that effective Jan 1, 2017 the state of New Jersey was going to decrease its state rent tax to 6.875% and my new rate was going to be $82.29. On Jan 1.2017 Public Storage charged me $97.37. On Feb 1st I was charged $97.15. This is AFTER they tell me that the taxes are lower. So, Public Storage figures if you were prepared to pay the full amount before the tax break, you should be fine paying the same amount after the tax break? That extra money isnt going to the state, it's going to Public Storage. Now, sometime in January, a renter ran into the exit gate. This is not Public Storage's doing. They had no control over that. But istead of making the units available during the posted hours, the hours posted on the website, the hours posted on the walls surrounding the property, Public Storage, in their effort to take care of their patrons, decided that if you want access to your stuff, you have to come during their regular business hours. Instead of rearranging the office staff to make the property available until 9pm, they chose to create unnecessary hardship on those who pay to store their treasures. This was the icing on the cake. I chose to move out and find a different business to patron. read more

Been trying to move out of my unit for 2 weeks. I called and was assured that a manager would get back to me within 48 hrs. BEEN 2 WEEKS with no contact. This place is so shady. The "secure" gate out front is left open half the time and their is garbage left behind near the broken elevator constantly. The onsite manage has never been any help. Go elsewhere this place is worth nothing more than convenience. read more

I rented a 10x15 storage unit at this facility about a month ago. Heather, the property manager was very friendly and seemed nice, but she was on the phone while helping us, then completely stopped and continued with the phone call, she then not only greeted the incoming customers she helped them completely, leaving us to wait to finalize our order over 20 minutes later. She talked us into a second-floor unit because it was the better price, it was so close to the elevator, and she had many other great selling points on this unit and obviously we were sold. I would not recommend this facility because they over charge for a non-functioning facility. The first time I made a trip to the unit only one of the two elevators worked and this put quite the hindrance on how much we could get done. The second time I went to drop the rest of my apartment off neither of the elevators worked! I called the 800 number and they gave me the district managers number, Brian, who said there was nothing he could do and I would have to call the Property manager the next day, he was very rude and didn't seem to care about his facility or his consumers issues. We were moving and had an apartments worth of stuff that now needed to get to the second-floor, I wouldn't normally be upset by using the stairs, but for the amount of stuff I had to move this was ridiculous and unacceptable. When they charge customers an average of 200 a month they should be able to afford a service to fix these issues on the spot. I called the property manager as the DM had advised me and she said "oh we have technical issues sometimes it happens." I said this was unacceptable because it wasn't once but twice they didn't work, She then preceded to take the phone away from her ear and set it down on the counter. She was not very sneaky about it. Their facilities are not properly maintained and they do not care to rectify the situation in any way. In closing I will be moving out by the end of May and will never use Public Storage ever again! read more
