Avoid at all costs! So many issues with this property. 1) The freight elevator has never worked in the 6 months I have had this unit, So you have to manually carry everything up the narrow stairs. This is Very difficult because the door automatically closes before you even get a chance to grab one box. 2) the app rarely works to unlock the door at the stairwell. I have to set everything I'm carrying down, type the access code, Hold the door open with my foot, grab my boxes, and quickly enter the stairwell before the door automatically closes. Really nice people working there. Its clean and organized, they have tools to move in and out of your unit. Management will increase your rent twice a year. Short term is good but dont plan on being there for more than 6 months. I've been doing storage clean outs and auctions for about eight years now, I really feel bad for whoever rented the unit I just cleaned out last week. This unit had obvious water damage from what appears to be a roof leak or busted fire sprinkler inside the unit. Everything was covered in black, green and white fuzzy mold and was musty and damp. So damp that the boxes of clothes, books, sports cards, family pictures were all unsalvageable and the drawers of the dresser literally fell off and crumbled in my hand when I touched it. This person had been renting here for more than ten years and paid insurance up until they defaulted on their unit. I'm willing from bet they stopped paying on the unit after discovering all of their valuables had been destroyed yet the company shamefully auctioned this unit off. This is a biohazard and should have been evident as soon as the lock was cut, the smell was overwhelming!! If you plan on renting anything in the D building I would be extra cautious. Also, this is an unstaffed location with only a kiosk so no manage is present to keep an eye on things. It took me almost two hours to get access here and I had to drive to their alternate location down the street and even then the manager was not in the office and I had to sit and wait. Public Storage has really become increasingly more customer unfriendly as of late. Why should this matter to you? In the event you do default on your rent your unit will probably sell for pennies on the dollar leaving you to pay off a hefty collections bill still. Trust me, I've been doing this for many years. If you really value your possessions choose a facility that doesn't have drywall walls and leave their vacant units unlocked for some tweaker to break into your unit. Plus the fact that this facility is unstaffed with just a stupid kiosk and no air conditioning turned on in the office (even though the Ac unit is installed in the office) just goes to show that PS really only values your money and not you as a customer! read more

First of all I had a death in the family so I have been out of state I got back last week. When I left I forgot my credit card. My only request was for him to point out to me in the agreement I signed where it gives him the rite to charge and treat me in the manner he did. I felt it necessary to share my extremely poor experience after recently being robbed at the 2099 Placentia Ave Public Storage location. I have included a letter I wrote to the Public Storage CEO, and while my experience may be atypical, would encourage those considering this location to be very wary of security (or lack thereof). "I am writing you to share my very disappointing recent experience as a Public Storage customer with your Orange County division, managed by Todd Haynes. As a business owner myself, I would want to be made aware if a customer of mine was less than pleased with my product or service...so I thought it only right to bring it to the attention of the Public Storage Executive Team. In September of 2014, my wife and I were married in Northern California. At the time we were living in Newport Beach, CA and had been renting a 5' x 8' Public Storage unit for over a year as of that September (2099 Placentia Ave, Costa Mesa, CA location, Unit #141). Prior to our wedding, we primarily used our storage space for extra household items that could not fit in our one bedroom apartment. Leading up to the wedding however, we began storing many of the registry gifts received from loved ones in our storage unit. The last day we visited the unit was Saturday, August 30th prior to our departure for the wedding. It was not until Friday, October 31st that we went back to the unit for the first time since the wedding and honeymoon. Upon arrival we noticed that our key was not fitting into the disk lock on the unit door. Only after several minutes did we realize that the door jam had been badly bashed and cut...and the lock on the door was clearly not our own. As you can imagine, it was incredibly nerve-racking to discover we had just been robbed...likely of many of our wedding gifts. Luckily a woman was still in the location office and was able to call Todd Haynes (your District Manager I believe) who was able to cut the thief's lock. We discovered that the unit had been ransacked and a number of our wedding gifts had in fact been stolen, some were also broken or damaged, and an expensive hunting rifle and ammunition was also taken. After filing a report with the front desk, Mr. Haynes offered a replacement lock and said he would get in touch with us about moving our belongings into a more visible unit (we were on a second floor hall about half way down). We followed the standard procedure of filing a police report, but when several weeks later I asked for a copy of the Public Storage report, or a print-out showing when our gate code had been used...the office workers were unwilling to help. I was told that this information was Public Storage property and was not available to customers. It is very surprising that this is the case, especially in the event of a robbery where police are involved. I am writing to you now primarily because my wife and I just completed the claims process with our insurance company and discovered that of the ~$2,500 in stolen gifts, we will only be reimbursed for roughly $750 after deductible and depreciation -- we essentially lost $1,750 in wedding gifts purchased by those closest to us. Perhaps you are already familiar with our rental location, but there are no security cameras beyond the gate entry...and otherwise the location remains unmonitored. The method of entry in the case of our robbery means that somebody was able to bash or saw their way through our lock, add a lock of their own, and escape the facility undisturbed with no small number of items. How could this be possible? Particularly in conversations with the police, I had absolutely no recourse because no camera footage, gate code information, or on-site security staff could provide additional details of any kind. I reached out to Mr. Haynes several months after the robbery -- he never contacted us following the robbery to discuss a new unit despite taking down my direct contact info -- to see if Public Storage would be willing to reimburse us at least for the month the robbery was likely to haven taken place (October), and the additional time it took us to remove our belongings from the unit altogether and cancel our rental with Public Storage (November and December). Mr. Haynes refused, sighting that the only thing he could offer in "this type of situation" is willing cooperation with insurance or police. However, we could not even get a desk clerk at the 2099 Placentia Ave location to print out a record or copies of the report...which feels nothing like "cooperation". Since the robbery, my wife and I have moved permanently to Northern California and will no longer be renting with Public Storage. More than anything, I would implore you to review the security precautions at this location. It is heartbreaking that my wife and I will not be able to replace some of our gifts and that we alone had to deal with the financial repercussions of this incident." read more

This was our first experience renting a storage unit. We chose this location because of its convenience to our home and the initially reasonable price; however, we received our first rent increase just a few month after moving in. After a few more increases we downsized to a smaller upstairs unit and again, received a rent increase after only a few months. After recently receiving yet another notice of increase ($20/mo) we looked around and found another storage facility just a little farther from our home where we were able to rent the same size unit but with drive up access for $30/mo LESS than what our new rent would be here. The day we went to vacate our unit the lift was not operational and we have several items that are too large and/or heavy to carry down the stairs so we were worried that we would not be able to move out before the end of the month. Adam was the manager on duty and he went out of his way to help us. After we left he was able to get the lift back in working order and called right away to let us know we could come back and finish our move. He was friendly, courteous and professional. The facility itself is great if you don't care about cost but we are retired and live on a fixed income so the frequent rent increases were a dealbreaker for us. read more

I entered my storage unit last week to remove an item, and was horrified to discover all of my belongings absolutely covered in rat feces, rat urine, and termite droppings! Several valuable pieces of furniture are now infested with termites and must be treated. BEWARE! The coverage you purchase when renting here only covers $250 (with a $100 deductible) for damage caused by vermin! Management was notified, but when I went into my unit today (with a mask and gloves) to close it, the condition was just as bad, if not worse. Management should never have allowed a customer to enter an enclosed space filled with documented rat feces / urine; it is a health hazard! This place has done nothing to reach out to me; I am on my own. I have notified the Orange County Health Department, Orange County Vector Control, and the Better Business Bureau. Matt was super helpful in getting me set up with a unit and showing me around the premises. The unit fit all of my stuff perfectly. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars is that the freight elevator was broken when we went to move in and we were told it would be up for the weekend. I had a very chaotic move from my previous address and it was so nice to have the Outstanding Customer service that I received from "Neville" one of the employees at 2099 Placentia Avenue in Costa Mesa. I couldn't get to their location on time for 2 days prior to moving out but Neville's help over the phone was so considerate and helpful I just had to come meet her and purchase a unit. She treated me like I was already a customer ,and very understanding of all the chaos I was going through just to get to their location. Unfortunately When I did make it down there, Neville was not on the schedule but although I didn't make my original reservation date she had kept my information in the system so everything was in the system and on file., which that was just Awesome for me because I don't have a lot of time to sit and fill out paperwork. I don't even know what to say. Do not trust that if you reserve/hold a storage unit online with Public Storage that it means anything. Apparently if someone comes in the store and offers a better price they will rent it to them without any consideration for your reservation and move in date! Here is what happened...I called to find out if a large unit was available that I saw on their website and got confirmation that it was available and was told to put a HOLD on it immediately online so they wouldn't rent it to someone else. I did this at 11:15 am this morning. The manager from the location left me a voicemail right after that to call and set up a time to come in however I did not see the message until two hours later when he left a second message telling me that he had rented the unit I RESERVED to someone who came in the store and was willing to pay the full price instead of the online deal they offer for the first month. He didn't wait to talk to me, just sold it to the highest bidder I guess. So my point is that the HOLD option they have online means NOTHING. When I held the unit online I had to put in my move in date and it said I would be contacted by a manage and "to complete this rental to just show up on the move in date." Well, I was contacted all right....but to tell me they rented my unit! The manager, Matthew, just said he was sorry and that he had left me a message and hadn't heard back and so he felt like it was okay to rent to somebody else. He just kept telling me he understands. What a crock! I have been looking for this size unit for awhile at this price and now I have nothing. Extremely disappointing. read more
