While waiting for a delivery, a homeless man started circling my car and harassing me. Shawn, kept a watchful eye and made certain that I was safe. He also put a call in to the local authorities notifying them of other suspicious characters congregating in the adjacent parking lot. Rented us a unit with a broken door that someone had their things broken into prior. they didn't fix it. a few of my things went missing the female employee screamed at me and I'm sure she took it and didn't help at all, next day my tools are missing and the other female doesn't help out at all. left, do not rent here it is not hospitable. and It says 1$ for first month and they charged me for the whole month. DO NOT RENT HERE!!!!!!!!!! The advertised deal is completely deceptive. I saw a great rate for a unit pop up on my Instagram so I contacted PS to find out if it was too good to be true. I was assured 3 separate times by 2 different people before I signed any agreements that that would be my rate and it would not go up within the first 6-12 months, and if it did then they would simply send a message to corporate to reduce the increase back to the special. So I believed them, signed, spent $1000 and an entire weekend moving from my other storage unit to this one. Not even 3 months in I am sent a rent increase to raise my rent in the next 30 days over 45%!!!!!!!! So, I do what I was instructed and have them contact corporate to reduce the increase. They won't budge, and all I'm told is sorry, I still have a good rate. This is unethical and malicious business practice that has now cost me hundreds of dollars more than if I had just stayed at my other unit because this unit is now the same price, and I'm out the cost of moving. I don't have enough money or time to move again to another facility. This place is a money hungry scam and I will be researching to see if this deceptive practice is even legal. Where are the consumer protections against these companies? Contacting the BBB to share my experience here and hopefully open up an investigation. DO NOT RENT FROM ANY PUBLIC STORAGE FACILITY!! Onsite Staff are great people BUT Corporate is what makes this place DECEITFUL and SHADY!! Corporate offices of Public Storage raised our rate 40% in 4 months and after asking around will raise it continuously thereafter every quarter! Nobody tells you when you sign up that they will raise your rate up 40% or more. So why would you think as much. They wait for you to move in get everything settled and Hit you with this increase expecting you to pay it! Here is the kicker! I went online and at the same facility for a bigger unit they offered it for less than what I was paying. This Shady practice shows you they are willing to let renters go just so they can get people to pay the increase. And if they don't and you move out they do it to the next person. I will be reporting to Better Business Bureau as well as telling everyone I know never to rent from this terrible company. I called corporate office and they basically said there is nothing they can do because it's based on demand. even though I told them I see open units at the facility. It took me 10 minutes to find a storage facility closer to my home with better access hours and 25% less than what I am paying. Already confirmed with new place that they only do rate adjustments every 9 months and the maximum they have done was 9% during a high time. This is acceptable. I made a mistake in signing up with PUBLIC STORAGE but I hope this review helps others in not making the same mistake. I truly hope that public storage corporate reads this and gets their act together. I guess for now I will use my only consumer power and move!! The front elevator has been broken for months and there are no carts available. The carts are always locked up by the broken elevator and no carts are located by the elevator that works. There is never anyone in the office so you can never get the carts unlocked and get any help. You can't even use their restroom because it's locked. Would never recommend public storage read more

Funny stuff, but after you leave your garbage in a storage unit, they come after you for past rent, and then give it to an auction buyer for free. They KNOW that it's garbage, but still offer it as STORAGE TREASURE. Dawn, the District Manager agreed with me, and told me to take what I can, and she would take care of the rest. After I sweated my *** off, breaking some down and throwing in their trash, I left a few things hoping to get someone that had nothing, to pick it up. All of of sudden, NO NO NO, can't do that and if you don't empty 100%, I will notify auction company (and I would get suspended). So, Dawn basically lied to me. First, they should take out their own garbage. Second, don't be treating the auction people like they are very low class. Third, please don't lie. I did read that bad reviews about the price increases . first off, I was in Costa Mesa Pub storage . but what I can see , the whole company is run by a big computer and they all operate the same way . they get you in a special price, then raise it within the first month and goes up consistently from there . By the way, it's a hassle with all their gates ( their code system is for them and hard to deal with ) and doors . You have stop what your doing and drop everything to AGAIN and AGAIN appt it long codes that are hard to remember . Other places use your unit number and last four digits of your phone number - easy right . Not this outfit . The air inside is so thick, and stale with people's old furniture . you get a scratchy throat being in their building within minutes . They don't have ventilation system to cross clean and omit the foul air . It's a dark stank environment . Your stuff will be contaminated with dust mites , stank with in a week inside this moldy stinky conditions. RAISING PRICES , I went in at a special price . They told me that the prices could go up, but to meet the level of competitive pricing in surrounding area.i thought, well that should stay within a manageable increase . I went in at $197.00 a moth . After the first month it was increased to $229 . WTF a I thought . That's a 25% increase approx ? ONCE they get your credit card these company nails you. It's run like the mafia . You have no choice. The billing system was ruthless . The next month it went up about $20 more , then the third month they wanted $324.00 a month . that was crazy aggressive . From $129 . I looked online and saw that the COMPETITION strage places were all the same pricing. So WHY the increase ? The company is ruthless . They know by their computers that people will just pay because they have no where to put their stuff, it's too demanding physically to get it all trucks , dolly's and their backs and their friends to help again and move somewhere . Total distortion $$$ and manipulation once they have you trapped in those sick buildings . Yes elevators are always broken . Do NOT rent here. This is why: 1. They change the amount every month. Their explanation is "It's our right because it's a month to month lease". Of course the rate goes up each month, not down. They won't allow you to lock in a long term lease and price. 2. They are NEVER in the office so you can't get help or get the carts unlocked for use. And they NEVER answer the phone. 3. Drug addicts and prostitutes living in units and doing their thing in the units. They meet their "clients" in the parking lot then bring them to the unit near ours!! Me and my bf were stereotyped from the second we walked in to the front office to ask about the units very unfairly by the employee who seemed to have more than just a job invested there from what later on we could tell some of the employees live there so they get very territorial with the paying customers who not only keep them in business but are basically paying for their room and board. The Staff and facility are tremendous. The employees are courteous and helpful while the facility is clean/ well maintained. The issue is the outrageous price increases of 20%-40% that begin after 6 months of storage. The only remedy is to move all of your belongings to a new unit to 'restart the process'. HORRIBLE! I rented a unit for vehicle storage in the afternoon. The next morning I went to put a vehicle in the unit and there are planters blocking the path which make it difficult and unsafe to maneuver a vehicle into the space. In less than 24 hours of renting the unit, I request a refund or at least pay a pro-rated amount and was denied. They said I have to pay the whole month's fee. They wouldn't even let me roll the amount paid over to a different unit, so I had to pay for an additional unit where I could get the car to fit! Total criminals and disrespectful. The girls at the counter were nice but the corporate people on the other end of the telephone are not, and refused to give me a refund, even though the unit is NOT able to be used due to safety and lack of accessability! read more

This location is the worst!! They are more expensive then other storage places. It is hard to find anyone in office. They locked door even if someone is in the office. I called for an hour and half but not answer . when someone did answer they said they had to check property. But I was told that a few others times. Different faces daily. Everyone is a "manager". Two stars for the counter employee's. Zero stars for the company and the conditions. Rented from Public Storage (2075 Newport Blvd. Costa Mesa, CA) because my elderly mother was downsizing from lifetime home to an apartment. The contents included boxes of holiday decorations, house wears, family photos, etc. They continually raised their rates! The elevators were constantly not working, her unit is on the second floor. Upon her passing I had to have a moving company vacate the unit and the movers were disgusted by the termite droppings ALL thru out her unit/contents. The droppings were in all of the boxes and covered the tops of all of the containers. I asked an employee about the conditions and she said "they are not responsible" WHAT????? Its their building and they should be taking care of the structure! Very disappointed with this company and would not use them EVER again. Beware, we moved the contents out the 2nd week of the month and there is no pro-rating the billing. I tried calling the corporate number to make sure her account was closed and asked for a final bill and they put me on hold (without saying so) and the call went to a voicemail. Never use any public storage location if you need to store any valuables. These people are king of bait and catch. I purchased a storage unit for a month while I was moving and now, months later they are attempting to charge me 300$ for a storage unit I used for 2 days saying that I never removed my lock (which I did) so they charged me for 3 months worth of rent. I spoke to them multiple times about it and they continue to just charge me. Don't go here they will steal your money and never even tell you. Update-it is now 11/21/2019 and the district manager has yet to contact me. What does the DM do? Seems like they don't do anything all day everyday. Must be nice. Are you guys hiring? Overall this place is clean and the storage units are nice. What I am frustrated about is over 50% of the time when I come to the office during business hours the office managers are not here!! You cannot get a cart to haul your things to your unit inside without the office managers. And I always end up waiting a min of 30min. This is ridiculous! And wasteful of their clients time. I'm sitting here waiting yet again as I write the post. If this doesn't change I will move my things somewhere else. Updating as this is the 2nd time I've come today during biz hrs and no ones here. Sign says they'll be back at 4:50 which was 5 min ago. The office manager now showed up, he the ones that I see the most. He's so friendly and helpful but he's the only one staffed and is clearly working hard, running all around. The bosses just need to staff more than one person during all shifts. read more

This Public Storage is a complete rip off! They price gouge. I don't think they care about their customers in the least. Due to a death in the family, we were forced to get a storage unit. We started with an already high rate for our 10x15 unit, judging from comparable places nearby. They have RAISED our monthly rate 3 times in one year! We have asked through an appeal to keep our rate the same and it has been denied twice. We began by paying $360 per month and they are now raising it to $510 per month. And we have not even been there a full year! Now we are forced to move all of our things to another place because of PRICE GOUGING! read more

This is truly the worst company we've ever dealt with. Everyone needs storage, and companies are getting top dollar. This one is horrible. We were broken into, with $10,000 worth of heartbreaking loss, no video cameras but one right by the elevator, and our unit was bashed in for two days, and they didn't even know or notify us. Fortunately, we came to the unit and saw that it was broken into, re-closed with a large dent by the lock, and our expensive dolly was down the hall. They wanted to protect the criminals, so the couple of pictures that they had access to, were not fully accessible. Immediately after our break in, where they did not cover any loss or get our door fully secured, they raised our rent by over $100. No reimbursement for loss, and charging us almost $500 a month for a medium sized unit. Of course, it is no loss for them if we leave, because there are people standing in line for a new unit. They raise the rent constantly, though you feel you're getting a good deal when you sign up. At another of their Public storages in Irvine, my husband actually had a heart attack because they were so forcefully demanding that we get out before 8 o'clock, and we were rushing to drop something off quickly. I called up to see when they would be refunding the half of a month that I shouldn't pay for. Guy on phone says we stopped prorating their bills. Public Storage is the worst. Find any other option that you can. They push you to enroll online, their service is all firewalled. They have very limited hours. I reserved a unit online and then they called and asked me to finish my account online. It was all the same questions as my reservation and it said that an account was already with the same email address. So I tried to log in and it said that my email and password dont match. After multiple attempts I tried to get online service but that was a stupid bot that wasted my time. I called in for service and that was a bot that I had to battle for quite a time before I got a person. I loaded up my stuff with a friends help and truck and when I got there the gates wouldn't open. Two girls were the office and said they lock down at 6. I've never heard of such a thing. Had to go unpack everything but it was going to rain overnight. Came back the next day and had questions but now(during business hours). Nobody was there. It took 45 minutes to track down someone to get a hand truck. Public Storage is an example of giant corps that could care less about serving customers. They're expensive and there are lots of other options that are way better. Don't use Public Storage. read more

Message to upper management. Most of us have jobs from 9-5/6pm at night not allowing us to access our unit at any time during the week. It's outrageous and beyond frustrating. How are people with average jobs that commute in traffic every day suppose to be in/out by 6pm? PLEASE change the gate hours back to 9pm. I'm looking for elsewhere to rent because I can't be limited to only a 7 hour window a day compared to what used to be a 15 hour window. Two stars instead of the minimum simply because the staff members I dealt wtih (both girls but I dont remember their names...sorry) were very nice and the one who signed me up was actually apologetic about the ridiculous gate access hours. 9:30-6:00 and completely closed on holidays. Honestly, in this day and age of companies competing for customers how does Public Storage justify the misguided decision to allow people access to their units only during bankers hours? Let me jump on the bandwagon and assure you that you erred big time when that policy was born. Is there any truth to the rumor that the gate access hours were 0600-2100 before the change (15 hours daily access) and 0930-1800 (8.5 hours daily) after the change? That is a staggering 6.5 hour (43.3%) reduction and just seems incredulous and punative, even petty, like policy change was born of anger and meant to punish. All bad...terrible analysis and conclusion...and sure to lead to negative attention and loss of heretofore loyal customers. Gate hours should be 6am to 10pm 7 days a week including holidays. Also your gate code should buy you a grace period of an allotted time per month say 2-4 hours so if you sometimes had to stay later you werent forced to call the police to escape, you would have a little tardiness reserve you could call upon occasionally. Having to make suggestions on your service and write this review when all I personally want is my shit stored safely and available to me when needed with zero headaches is unfortunate. Whoever is guiding these very poor decisions on behalf of the owners should really reconsider their position before he or she delivers your company to hell in a handbasket. Sounds like you need to clean up your policies and fast. The argumentative resident manager is carrying out someones orders when he steadfastly refuses to assist customers trapped behind the gate 1 minute past closing time. Without doubt. Forcing them to contact law enforcent to open the gate is the most unbelievably obtuse complex and unnecessary solution to such an easily solvable customer service challenge that the reality of its use boggles my mind. Fot a RESIDENT manager to ignore the opportunity to easily increase a customers satisfaction level with a minimal corresponding effort, and instead choose to augment client anger and tension with the police, shows leadership deficiencies and a sense of cluelessness on the part of the employee. I have reluctantly had my stuff stored here for over 7 months until finding a new home to buy. I have some valuable items that required climate control. I paid an outrageous $650 a month for a 10x20 space and a 10x10 space. They raised the price over $50 within the first few months (which was not mentioned ahead of time). Moving in, they prorate you depending on what point in the month you move in. What is REALLY lame is they don't prorate you moving out. I moved out 5 days after the bill was paid and now that the units are vacant, they have a full payment amount and will be renting the units to someone else while I am essentially still paying for them. Sure, this is in the fine print of the contract, but from a customer service, and even ethical standpoint, this is so wrong. Most people can't see 7+ months into the future and time life events accordingly. It's not always possible to time a move right before your payment is due - there should be some understanding and consideration on behalf of the customer - especially one that pays a high price for a 'climate controlled' unit, that the many times I entered the building the temperature was high and I was told that the 'ac unit is broken but they're fixing it'. Hmmmm. that ac sure did break a lot... And they literally never fixed the bathrooms the duration of my storage time there. Hoping someone from Public Storage reaches out with some compassion rather than the pointed "we don't rent by the day" and "you're the one that signed the contract" responses I was given over the phone. Rep refused to listen & I told him to stop with the name calling & would record he said NO cuz it's against their policy and hung up. I went to a location to show the receipts to clear situation & I was rudely treated, Agents refuse to cooperate with me, they started calling other locations pretending to be supervisors & even they admitted they were confused & informed me they have no supervisors nor General Manager. I would like it to be known that my unit was broken into and burglarized. There are no cameras and their insurance does not cover because it was not a forced entry. I know I locked my lock I checked 3 times which leads me to believe it was an inside job and they either have keys or pick the locks. It's shady and it's a scam. Reading other reviews let's me know I'm not alone. I've dealt with Jim on-site live in employee. I'll keep my opinions about him to myself but something smells fishy about the happenings there after hours and luckily the police re-opened my case as they have more evidence to go off of.
