This storage facility just sent me a notice that my unit will cost $35 more monthly, NEXT MONTH! I would understand a $5 or $10 increase but $420 more a year is insane. REALLY disappointed and shocked to get a rental/rate increase (especially during these crisis times) of $61 - $80 per month (~$20 increase or 30%) after only 4x months of being a customer. Is this a sign of their business model to take advantage of these hard times?? How can a 30% increase be justified? Has there been a 30% life in costs?? or is this an example of profitteering the disadvantaged - which is poor form. We rented a storage unit from this place from April until today 6/19. We gave a credit card for payment upon move in and assumed the card would be charged monthly. We received an email at the beginning of June saying we were delinquent in payment. We emailed back that a credit card is in file and should be charged. No response. When my husband went to get the last things out of the unit he was unable to get in. Knowing that the office staff must not have acted on his email he parked and began walking toward the office. He was met by an extremely rude woman who immediately harangued him about how he had not paid the bill. He insisted a credit card was on file. She said that was not the case and he needed to pay. This is only an issue because the storage unit was for his mothers belongings since she is now in memory care but still pause her own bills. He replied that the first 2 months had been paid by the credit card why not the third? He paid and said he was removing everything today. She then launched into a tirade about how the unit needed to be clean, don't use the dumpster etc... She was unnecessarily rude and made a hard time for us even worse. Every time I have to store stuff I always use public storage. I will have to agree that "first month for 1.00" is bull but it does have the lowest prices from others and the storages are climate control and it is very safe! Used this facility for 2 months of storage during a move. Was going to be moving out on the 3rd of the month, for which they told me in advance that I would get charged for the whole month. I find that ridiculous, but, oh well, we needed storage. We just had movers move us out of the unit on the 3rd, and because we were moving and with the long holiday weekend, I forgot to pay for the full month. I got a phone call in the morning of the 7th, telling me I was overdue, and was at the facility 20 minutes later to pay the bill, plus a $42 late fee. I asked to have the late fee taken off, seeing as the unit was paid for and the only inconvenience to Public Storage was a phone call, but the on-site manager said she could only request it. Got a call back later saying the request was denied because I hadn't been a paying customer long enough. The on-site manager was fine, but this company doesn't let them make any decisions; they're all done through a corporate office. Needless to say, a call to corporate dispute resolution said that there's no way to reverse the late fee if I haven't been a paying customer for over 12 months. My fault for being late, no issues there, but I find it hard to believe that there is absolutely no way to reverse a late fee. I hope the $42 was worth it, because I will never use your company again. Plenty of competition in Chicago to have to deal with this nonsense. Also, they have the nerve to ask me to "let us know" if you vacate the unit early. So you're going to charge me a full month, even though I vacate in the first week, so you can rent it to someone else while I'm still paying? Yeah, I'm storing a crappy tarp in there until the end of the month. Way to lose future business, Public Storage. Oh, and my unit took on water also. First floor unit, so be wary. read more

They offer what they say but where they get you is introductory rates since they increase them once you are already there. I believe they should get sued for increasing rates during corona since they are obviously taking advantage of the situation. So don't get tricked into an introductory rate as right off the bet it is not including the mandatory insurance. Be ready to pay more for your unit soon enough when they tell you only a month in advance that your rate will jump up. And this can happen multiple times too. They know very well that it will cost you to move your stuff and that you will want to avoid the hassle so this is how you end up paying more sometimes than if you actually rented since you would be paying your rent and storage fees. read more

Public storage is greedy, I pay on the 3rd of each month , moved out the 6th retuned for a refund and they will not return it. Watch out for them. They said we pay month to month and that is the rule. Very curt rep advised me of this. Due to covid I was unable to move on the last dy of the month. I began renting at $42 a month, but then just after several months the rate was raised to $82 a month. The $42 was never presented as an introductory rate, and customer service told me simply that they can raise rents at their discretion with 30 days' notice. Sue and Rosie are always extremely helpful and friendly. The office is always clean, neat and organized. I had a bad experience with their customer service and billing practices. I setup my online account for ACH and for whatever reason (my bank and their customer service have two different stories) failed. I called as soon as I noticed that the money had not been debited from my account and was told that it takes a few days to process. I waited 48 hours and it still was not posted. Rosie called me immediately to come make the payment in person. Sue was there when I came in to make the payment which was supposed to be $36 but was $81. Sue explained that I was being charged a late fee and an ACH fee. I explained the situation to Sue, she was empathetic and understanding but the local offices do not have the ability to waive fees. I contacted customer service and spoke with a woman named Roxanne who barely let me explain the entire situation. She kept cutting me off to explain her side when she hadn't even heard mine. I finally had to say to her "that it is my turn to talk as I afforded you the same courtesy". At which point I heard that annoying sigh people make when they don't want to deal with a customer and she said she waived the late fee but their policy is that they cannot waive a returned check fee for ACH (which if you think about it, there is no actual paper involved, I did not write a check and it bounced, an electronic transaction failed.) and in the same breath promptly gave me the district manager's (Nicolas) number and told be to leave a message and he would get back to me in 24-48 hours. I am still awaiting a resolution. My overall rating of the facility would be higher if the corporate customer service was not so poor. read more

I'm Anya and I'm a hoarder. I mean, it's not as bad as the TV show but I have to admit I'm a pack rat. So when I ran out of room to stash my crap, I took it to Public Storage. What I like about this place is that it really does fulfill all my storage needs. Yes, the move in special is really 1st month's rent free or for $1. Be warned, however, the price does go waaay up after that month so be prepared to fork over some dough. I pay $64/month for a medium sized unit. It's inside the building and accessible until 9pm every night. The whole property is well lit, so even in the silence, it's not so creepy. The inside is not climate controled so if you have to go digging through your stuff in the summer time, be prepared to sweat! The staff are very helpful and eager to come up with solutions for your packing and storage needs. They have a nifty mobile site that you can use to pay your bill, but they accept payment at any of their locations. So if you're looking to hoard things, then Public Storage is just the place to stash your secret treasures. read more

The come on for the first month for a dollar or free is a ripoff. They make you buy their lock, no exceptions. Then, they force you to buy a plastic mattress cover to line the floor of your unit. Then, they tack on a processing fee and a bunch of extras and taxes. By the time you're done, a dollar is a distant memory. Their rates are very high. I have three units and pay about nine hundred dollars per month. Also, be prepared to fill out and sign more documents than at a mortgage closing. It's ridiculous. The staff is friendly enough, but they are VERY slow. I think they get bored and lonely in their office, all alone, so they enjoy the human interaction and want to keep you there as long as possible. The place is clean and well lit. You access the gates with a key code. They're open until 9:00 PM. My big beef is the locking mechanisms. All of the units they rented me have such mangled lock slides that you have to be a strong man to slide the latch in, so you can attach your lock. I've broken more than one nail struggling with those sliding latches. They need to maintain their facility better and pound those out until they're straight. I give them one star for a great location and another star for cleanliness and a nice staff. I'm deducted three stars for their deceptive marketing (first month free or $1 come-on), broken lock slides, and outrageous monthly rates. read more

ALERT ALERT!!!!!!! In the Lease Agreement under #2, it states that Public Stoarge has the right to raise your monthly rent whenever it wants and for as much as the company feels like it! I agreed to $100 a month and they raised it to $117 after six months. I called their main headquarters and they said they can raise it wheneve they feel like it. Im stuck because it will cost too much for me to move my stuff out and into another location, that's how they get you. SCAM! read more

I would never store anything at this facility again. I was charged a controlled climate rate on a floor where you could see your breath in the winter and was extremely hot and humid in the summer. If you complained to the front desk they would just acknowledge it and tell you to call the area manager who of course wouldn't return the call. The freight elevator was constantly broken. The day I moved out we had to move through the passenger elevator which is a fraction of the size. It was a total scam. I filed a complaint with the BBB but Public Storage didn't respond. read more

Stay away from public storage. Piss poor customer service on corprates end.(Which to get ahold of anyone you have to call theyre office in california, the manager at the building im at couldnt even get me a number that went to a real person.) Expect your bill to continue to rise after the promo period, then continue to rise again every 6 months. I asked why i wasnt told that the price goes up at six months. Which is standard practice mind you. And i quote from they're corprate office, " We do not tell anyone that because we do not know how much it will go up based on national standards." So i asked if that happens every 6 six months, the answer was yes. Will it ever drop in price, the answer was no. My take on theyre buisness model is, lure people in with a good deal tell them they will pay x amount of dollars then slowly try to suck more money out of them. Instead of telling customers a price and honoring that to keep them around. So now instead of gaining the 12 dollar increase they refuse to remove from my bill they will lose 75 dollars a month. Not a good way to keep paying customers happy public storage. read more
