DO NOT use this facility. Their elevators are not trustworthy. In the short time that I used this facility one or the other elevators was not working. To make matters much worse, BOTH elevators were out of service during the 3 days I was in Chicago to move out of the unit. I am a 74 year old man living in Virginia. When I could not move my property out of the unit due to their negligence in not having their elevators working, I had to leave town and pay 5 months additional rent before I could get back to Chicago, not to mention the cost and inconvenience of another trip to Chicago. They offered me no compensation and not even any acknowledgment of responsibility. I was treated very rudely by the local staff and managemnt. What good is a storage unit if you can't access it? The Public Storage at 2101 W. Howard is housed in an ancient building so, maybe, bad on me for selecting it but, I expect some basic "basics". I think it's not unreasonable to have a dry space, mostly free of vermin and well lit. I also expect to be able to access said space during operating hours. The management here seem to be able to succeed with the first three expectations but they are woefully failing when it comes to the last. The main elevator has been out of commission for more than two months and staff says that a plumbing problem will keep it closed indefinitely. The back up elevator is original to the building and is, at best, occasionally operational. Apparently it was reliable when the previous repair company was employed but a new company seems unable to keep it running reliably. Why not stay with the old repair company? Something to do with "bottom line"? In any case, I have a dining room filled with Christmas trees, lights, ornaments and garland that I can't put into storage because Public Storage management refuses to spend the money to properly maintain their facility. They make sure to contact me immediately if my payment is a day or two late but can't seem to use my money to allow me to access my space. Neither can they put me in touch with a district manager. They apologize and say they aren't allowed to share any contact information. They offer to put me in touch with the building managers but I spoke with them at length (they were great) and they are powerless to do any more than call the inept repair company and hope for the best. Public Storage management needs to take some of the money they collect from us and invest in basic infrastructure so that we can, at a minimum, get to our units. read more

Quality is too notch and the value is absolutely top notch. The format and facility is safe and secure. I love the blue tube entrance. There is one glaring bad experience with of the staff. While my experience with all else has been enjoyable the face of the company is downright disgusting. That is the young lady at the front desk. She needs some training with dealing withe the public. She is argumentative self absorb and totally unprofessional. She reminfd me of a fast food drive up window personel. In summation unprofessional when it comes to service. Easy access and quick availability! We rented the unit early in the afternoon and had access to it and filled it within 2 hours. The app was great and there was plenty of parking and moving carts to use. read more

I would give this place zero stars if I could! The employees are NOT friendly or helpful. This past weekend there was so much snow on the lot I couldn't wheel my belongings out to my car. I ended up having to park in the firelane and over the snow just so I can place my belongings inside. This upset the manager and he told me off. I told him I was upset that he was too lazy to shovel the snow for customers. read more

Mr. Isaac is a wonderful person. So friendly and helpful. He is assisted me in backing in my u-haul for easy loading and exiting.

I just recently helped my friend move a bunch of stuff out of one of her locker. The facilities were very clean, easy to use, and the staff was incredible. The staff is amazing, particularly Shonda, who was very helpful. The location is secure, clean and has plenty of carts to help in moving heavy or bulky items. Be aware that the access is limited to the hours posted, but overall a very positive experience. The loading dock is big enough to accommodate larger trucks, which was also very convenient. read more

Decent price. Facility looks fine. The rep, Jackie, I worked with got me set up nice and quick. Quick tip: You do have buy or already have insurance for the stuff you store, so that's an extra fee that's not listed on the website when you reserve. read more

Sadly, my unit was cut into and my electric guitar was stolen from my unit at this location. I asked if they have security footage at all and they said "maybe but probably not" and when I asked about the lock being cut, the answer was "yeah, that happens sometimes." They provided me with a new lock with no charge but that hardly makes up for losing such a valuable item. I probably should have gotten the insurance but I kind of thought there was a kind of understanding that your lock won't be cut or, even if it was, they'd have a way to track or find out who did it! read more

I moved out today after 1.5 years at this location and I am updating my previous review from 1 star to 3 stars because the staff at this location are worth 6 stars but corporate rate hikes were worth 0 stars. I received fantastic care and service from everyone at this location; they are positive, friendly, and helpful. Truly a pleasure! The facility is clean, the bathroom is clean, a problem with my door wall took awhile to fix but fix it they did. I felt that my belongings were secure. There were always carts available during office hours and I was able to move into and move out of my unit easily. I always thought that the hours started at 9:30am but it turns out that is just when the office opens and carts are unlocked. The actual access hours are from 6am until 5 or 6pm depending on weekday/weekend. My problem with Public Storage as a company is that I didn't realize they could (and would) raise rent, up to 15%, every 6 months. If you are looking for a short-term storage option, this is an excellent choice; but the longer you plan to store, the more you are likely to pay. I had a unit on the first floor so perhaps units on the second floor would have remained more competitive. At the time I signed up, I was excited to get a 10'x10' unit on the first floor for 135$ a month and one month free (IIRC). I thought that would be my locked-in rate. After 6 months, my rent went from 135$ to 150$. I called around and found 10'x10' units for 100$ (this was mid-2017 so who knows what the going rate is now) but I was traveling and couldn't deal with moving. Now in 2018, when I finally had a window of time to decide if I was going to move or stay, they raised my rent to 160$ a month; that sealed it for me. I was able to fit my stuff in a 7.5' x 10' unit elsewhere for 65$ a month (+10$ a month for some insurance). I made sure to ask about rent increase history because I now realize all facilities raise their rates periodically. Hopefully my new digs work out! read more

I made reservations online on Saturday (9/13/14); went in the same day to view the unit space I reserved. I was assisted by Loretta, who was absolutely delightful to work with. Moved all my belongings into the unit on Monday (7/15/14); she was there and answered all my questions professionally. Even when I was bristling a bit at some of their policies, she never lost her demeanor. She assisted me the best she could. I'll highly recommend this location to family and friends; and highly recommend they ask for Loretta to assist them. Public Storage, you have a "GEM" of an employee on your team! read more

Jackie signed me up about 3 months ago and was very polite. I had not seen her until today. She spoke when I entered the office. Then she brought it to my attention that she had not seen me since I rented a storage space. Then she asked me was everything okay and could she assist me with anything today. My niece was looking for a storage and I recommended her to go to this location because the facility is clean. (The bathroom could use some Lysol). I'd write zero if I could. I had my stuff there for less then 2 months and they auctioned it!!! The first month was $10 (over 40 after taxes and insurance). I was behind on my second month on day 21 I got a bill for the month and next. On day 23 I got a letter saying my stuff had been auctioned for 250$ but I still owe them 98$. First of all, why was it auctioned without warning?? No notice at all. And second how could I owe them?? All of my memories, sentimental things and even furniture are gone. Just gone. I called them and they said they called me 9 times, but I had received no missed calls. And The only letter I ever received was that my stuff was auctioned off. And to top it all off, the customer service sucks. Some if the rudest people I've ever dealt with. Whatever you do, do NOT GO THERE!!! read more

Horrible customer service - every time I have been there or called, the people are rude and act like they are doing me a favor even speaking to me. This last time I called I could barely understand the man on the phone. He was either eating in my ear or had a horrible accent and should never pick up a phone. Yes, I know my bill is late - that's why I'm trying to get information from you! And you close access at 6:00 pm during the week??? and 5:00 pm on the weekends? That is ridiculous - some of us have jobs and can't get there during the day! I also have items stored at the Life Storage on Howard - much better facility with nicer people and a lot longer times of day for access times for entry. I will be moving everything here at some point. Also, the last time I went there I saw a man out of the corner of my eye listening to me when I was in the office. I then got my boyfriend out of the car and we went upstairs - there by my unit was the guy from downstairs lurking and he ran when he saw us. I shudder to think what might have happened if I was alone. I would NEVER go to my unit alone. (I also have items at the LifeStorage facility and I go there alone with no worries) read more

However, at 4pm on a weekday, arriving with boxes, the big elevator wasn't working and the small elevator was very tight to struggle the loaded cart in, one has to turn the cart so the door could close but the cart wheels dont swivel at both ends. read more

We've always paid on time (we use autopay). They've raised my rent over 50% in 3 years. Every locker similar sized locker they offer online is now significantly less than what they charge me. When I called and asked what could be done, I was told the only solution was to cancel my agreement, rent a new space, come in and move my things into a new space. It's their "policy". If this is how they treat folks who pay on time every month, I can't believe there aren't more similarly bad reviews. read more

The only problem was that the storage unit itself is very poorly lit so packing in and out will be that much more difficult. I signed up online, and got a call from the manager to set up a appointment to sign the contract. The place is clean and quiet, somewhat creepy when you are alone between the hallway, which all the storage tend to be. The manager later I learned called Isaac took me for a quick tour and to check out my space, and showed me how the storage gate work. I was in and out in less than 15 min. This place should win the award for "bait and switch champion." I attempted to make a reservation on line which the web site would not accept. I finally called their 800 number. The rep I spoke to, Tristan, was very nice but could not help with making a reservation with the advertised prices. He suggested I speak to the resident manager and explain the problem, and that possibly the manger could complete the order. I received a call and was told that none of the sizes I requested were available at those prices and that was the reason my reservation would not complete. He did say, however, that any of the 3 sizes were available, only at higher prices than advertised. He was extremely rude and basically told me if I didn't want to pay the higher prices he couldn't help me. They might as well have advertised their rentals for free if they have no intention of honoring the ads. read more
