Cozy spot just off the Square.. I ordered Crab Stuffed Shrimp and Grits my wife ordered the Filet. The Shrimp and Grits we're flavorful but the shrimp were very small and dominated by the crab stuffing. The grits are a cream cheese grits not cheddar. The Filet was thin and a little tough and was really a top sirloin not a true filet. It was ordered medium rare but arrived medium well. We returned it and had a better result but since it was a thin cut it is difficult to cook medium rare and still get a good sear on the outside. Steak was flavorful due to the rosemary butter but was a little chewy. The waitress was great and offered a complimentary dessert to make up for the over cooked steak. We plan on returning and enjoyed our visit overall! read more

I had a last minute issue with a restaurant I had planned to use for my birthday party which left me struggling to find a place to accommodate a group of 16. The night before said party Stephanie at Public House agreed to make it work for us, and had no issue splitting checks as needed. The service itself was amazing, the food was really good, and the ambience was so nice and cozy. I appreciate them being so willing to make it happen for me. Visited for my wife's birthday, she first looked online to see if the chicken/ Tyme/rosemary dish was still available, and it was. Got there, wasn't busy, waitress says that dish has been gone from menu for 6 months. She orders a chicken Alfredo dish, I ordered shrimp and grits. Service was very slow, food arrived and we ate. Portions were so small I was still hungry when we left. Grits were good but lost on large plate, Alfredo was rather bland. We won't be back. For $45 I either should have been stuffed full or been taking leftovers home for tomorrow's lunch. Should have went to the Depot. read more

Oh, dear, oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. What happened to this place? On our first visit I thought it was brilliant. Well, the environment is the same the service is nearly as good and it's as comfortable as ever. But, the food...and that's why we go to restaurants...was very poor. I ordered a salad. I received a bowl of dressing, lettuce, dried cranberries and some feta cheese. The lettuce was limp and hadn't been fresh for some time. My wife ordered a mixture containing cloyingly sweet chicken salad, awful hummus (apparently without tahini and seasoning), reasonably good pimento cheese, slimy carrots, which we judged unsafe to eat, and a reasonable side order of mac and cheese. As I always try to accentuate the positive: The coffee and unsweet tea was reasonable and the bag of potato chips was really nice. It seems the kitchen has had some sort of significant failure and I can't see why we would go to Public House again. read more

A hidden hole in the wall gem! Looking for a new place to have lunch and gave it a try - total winner. The staff is friendly and personable, the food was off the wall amazing and super-reasonable drinks (despite Tennessee's "sin" tax added on). The Shepherd's pie was hands down the best I ever had, covered in cheese and parsley as a variation and so much flavor! It came with a "side" salad that was a large bowl of spring greens, dried cherries, gobs of feta cheese, sesame seeds in a warm vinagrette dressing. Brought leftovers, I could not finish. 11 bucks for a great Old Fashioned made with Larceny bourbon? Count me in for a couple. Will be coming back soon. read more

Just had our second meal here and absolutely loved it!! My husband enjoys the TN Tobacco Barn libation and I enjoy my Tisdale Moscato. The food both times has been so flavorful, hot and served by great people. Can't wait to go back and try new items. To date we have had the Spicy Crab Dip, Slow Braised Pork Belly, Crab Stuffed Shrimp & Grits, Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes, French Onion Soup and their salads and dressings complimented each entree. If your looking for creativity and not the same ole offerings, you must try Public House. Their brunch menus on the weekends have something for everyone. From speciality French Toast to 4 -5 different Benedict specialties, too burger and fries. You must give it a try. Support local owners. We've had lots of great dining experiences in Springfield and this was no exception. We really enjoyed the service and food. The spicy crab dip with pita bread was delicious. My husband had a burger and I had the lemon salmon. The salmon had a wonderful crispy seare. I'm glad we can add this to the choices of restaurants because we often enjoy short drives to go eat somewhere different. read more

Food is outstanding and very creative, but the staff is always most unfriendly and could really care less if you came in there.

My first visit was good and then Shortly Precovid this place was just okay. And now continues to slowly deteriorate to a poor excuse of itself should be. I realize as with all Covid challenges in restaurants are having, poor food quality should not be tolerated even if service can be over looked. Daughters birthday pick. She is a teacher and had lunch here a few weeks ago. Dinner start crab dick, very good. Small place, not very busy. Daughters said lunch was packed but they were in and out and back to work within an hour. Last night two waitstaff and the teamed the few tables without missing a beat. Great service. Daughter had brats for lunch and crab cakes for supper, both very good. Side salads were greens, cranberries, sunflower seed and feta. Waitress recommended hot bacon dressing was excellent. Table mates had salad entree and Bentons bacon mac and cheese side. Huge portions with plenty of take home. I had pork belly with very good mash, and a peach gastric. Belly was "light braise" which I prefer more crisped but still good. Burger I heard was excellent as well. Brought in small cake for birthday and waitstaff were very accommodating. Missed out on good dessert selection. 5 people for $105 with drinks so reasonably priced. Surprising high class plates in Springfield. Full bar, beer on draft. Great atmosphere and great staff. Restaurants are struggling but this one it is not as result of food or staff. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed. read more

Was looking for a quick lunch on Sunday in Springfield and wandered into the Public House on 7th in Springfield... what a treat. They were serving brunch so I ordered the stuffed Shrimp and Grits... it came with a mixed greens salad complete with feta cheese and topped with this warm bacon vinaigrette dressing... amazing!!! Then the main course arrived. So many complimentary flavors in the Shrimp and Grits ... it was certainly prepared by a chef who knew what he was doing! Even the sourdough toast was perfection! can't wait to come back! 6 stars if I could give it! read more

My husband and I LOVE this restaurant! He used to live in Connecticut and loved the crab cakes he ate while traveling around the Northeast on the weekends. He was quite shocked when he had the crab cakes at this beautiful little restaurant and said they are even better than some of the ones he had in the Northeast. Every single thing we've had here has knocked our socks off. The pimento cheese with toasted pita bread alone is to make me come back time after time. Move on to the salad with the warm bacon dressing..... Woah. Seriously. Please try it. The shrimp and creamed grits are show stopping. Sunday brunch includes a crab cake Benedict. This is a perfect combination for me. My husband had the shrimp and grits. After our main course, my husband and I split the special of s'mores french toast. It was heaven meets diabetes. Need I say more? I do need. The staff here is always so nice and answer every question we might have. Today was the busiest we've seen them (every table was used and all but three seats at the bar) and our food still came out very quickly, our server was kind and attentive, the place was still just as clean as always and the tables were cleaned promptly after a table was vacated. Hidden gem. Staff is friendly and attentive. Started with a fab salad of fresh mixed greens, feta and sunflower seeds with made from scratch lemon vinaigrette. Followed up with an incredibly tender, good sized filet cooked to perfection with a pat of homemade rosemary butter. The hand mashed potatoes did not disappoint. Hamburgers are great. Pub fries are wonderful. The French onion soup is delicious. I have allergies. Most hamburger buns have citric acid in them. Theirs do not. I drink water. So many restaurants do not refill water unless I ask. My glass is filled often. Service is great. Friends really like their salmon and appetizers. read more

We tried this place for the first time last night (21 December 19). First the place is very charming with a lot of character and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food is really just not for this old Country boy I guess, so not really sure how to rate it other than based on my taste. I had the Bangers and mash which is apparently Italian sausage and mashed potatoes and my wife had saloon chicken which was a chicken breast on top of the mashed potatoes with bbq sauce and greens on top. I think these recipes are based on Great Britain cuisine. I was stationed in England in the 80's in the Air Force and really didn't like the food there either, a little bland as was this. We used to eat in Springfield regularly, but the place where we wanted to eat was closed, so we checked Yelp to see if any new places had opened. That's how we discovered Public House. We loved it! Great brunch choices. I settled on the crab cakes and salad, my wife got the crab-stuffed shrimp and grits. We each got a very reasonably priced Bloody Mary. The meal is probably a little pricey for Springfield, but it's as good as many Nashville restaurants. We will definitely go back! read more

Four of us were super excited to try this new-ish local spot Saturday night. The sourdough appetizer was OK, just bread with some honey-butter to dip. We all had the salads, which were excellent with the bacon vinaigrette. My friend ordered her filet med-well, so I anticipated a longer ticket time. The beer was cold and yummy (Blackhorse vanilla creme ale). When our meals arrived the dinner took a direct nose dive. My filet was ordered med-rare and cooked appropriately but my friends was also med-rare. The rosemary butter atop The steal wouldn't melt...uh oh bad sign. As I ate my first bite of the most bland and tough steak I had ever ate, our waitress told us she could have both remade. My friends husband had the shrimp and grits which was very odorific but also served cold. We canceled our remakes and a manger was sent over, she was dissmive and borderline argumentative of our concerns. The rosemary butter wouldn't melt on top of the steak because it was frozen she claimed.... if your steak is served hot, it shouldn't be a problem. We won't be back or recommend this place. Unless your'e looking for a beer, burger and salad- avoid the Public House. read more
