I'm not hard to please, but I do expect my fish to be fried once -- not resurrected. Tonight, my husband and I ordered out after a long day in hopes of a good meal at a local restaurant. I expected fresh and flavorful --instead I got reheated and regretful! The fish and chips arrived dark brown, heavy, and dripping in oil. Not golden. Not crispy. Not fresh. This was unmistakably refried fish. The kind that looks like it was an abandoned order tossed back into the grease instead of cooked properly for the customer who ACTUALLY paid for it. Refrying doesn't make food fresh. It makes it lazy. Complements of the chef du jour! The fries tasted like they'd been lingering under a heat lamp, contemplating their life, choices. Disappointing, stale, and lifeless. And the coleslaw? Bless it. Overwhelmingly mayonnaise-forward with barely a whisper of vinegar and none of that classic celery seed brightness that gives southern slaw It's backbone. It wasn't terrible --just timid and forgettable. Which sadly was still better than the leftovers with ambition, refried fish and chips, I received. In conclusion, Fish and chips is simple comfort food but simple requires care. Fresh drop. Clean oil. Cook it once. Serve it hot. That's not a high bar. Stopped in on a quiet Tuesday evening. The place is beautiful with plenty of TVs and a relaxed vibe, but the flies and gnats were distracting. Drinks were okay but light on the liquor. Service was friendly and quick. My steak was cooked perfectly, but the fries were dry and the mac and cheese lacked flavor. Double Dogs is my go-to sports bar, mainly because it's super close to home--but also because it's just a great spot. I especially love it when the weather is nice, and they open up the glass walls. If I can snag a seat at the bar, even better! Beyond a solid selection of beers, they offer a full bar and a bar food menu. My favorite is the Stroganoff Mac & Cheese--it's a must-try. Their burgers are pretty lit, too. Bonus points for the wall of dog pictures near the restroom. Looking forward to visiting this summer with my doggies and see if they can be added to that cool picture wall haha! read more

Came here for lunch with a friend. First time trying this place. It was busier than I expected it to be for a Tuesday afternoon but not packed. Maybe a little less than half the tables were seated. Our server came and brought us menus and asked if we knew what we wanted to drink. When she dropped off our drinks she asked if we were ready to order. Neither of us had been there before so we said we would need a few minutes. She didn't come back for about 15 min! I ordered a cheeseburger (I think it was the Bo burger) and my friend ordered fish and chips. I had onion rings as my side. They have a really big menu with lots to choose from, everything sounded really good. Food came and my burger was delicious. The onion rings were perfect. The only issue was when we were ready for our check the waitress was no where to be found. We waited about 15-20 min after finishing up for her to finally come back around and check on us. Other than service being slow this place was a great lunch spot. Restaurant was clean and open. Food was really good. I took leftovers home and ended up eating the rest of my onion rings on my drive home. I'd definitely come back and try more things off this menu while also wanting to get a burger again. read more

We asked for no creamy smoked tomato horseradish sauce, because we don't like horseradish sauce, but it came out with the rings anyways and I'm sure glad it did! It's excellent! Hard to describe the flavor...not smokey, not really horseradish-y, just yummy. Hubs got the Hebrew National chili dog and the hand-cut fries. Messy but he said it was really good and I tried his fries and they were really good. I got the southern fried chicken salad. I tried the hot bacon/honey mustard dressing that comes with it, but it wasn't for me (very smokey). I tried the thousand island, made from scratch and oh so good. The chicken is so tender, and you get a good sized portion. Our service was fantastic! Very prompt and attentive. Great in suggesting menu items since it was our first time there. And an excellent atmosphere! HUGE TV's everywhere for all of the games. We need a Double Dogs in Mount Juliet! Been here on a few occasions, and I will say it gets extremely busy on sports game nights which makes it a little challenging to get a spot since the place is not that big. Service is ok. I probably wouldn't come here as a first option but it is fine to come to on a slower day. Food is decent as well and they have a nice selection of food. The Hebrew National chili dog was a classic chili dog as expected. Bun was soft & fluffy, & the hot dog was juicy. The onion rings were huge, & the batter was light, crispy, & fried to perfection. The chili cheese fries didn't have much cheese on them. I expected it to be topped with cheddar cheese. Good beer selection, decent food. Staff is super friendly. We went for happy hour, $3.95 house wine and domestic bottled beer until 7pm. We ordered the nachos which came in a dog bowl. It was a fun way to serve them but honestly wouldn't order them again. The chips were low quality and the toppings were a minimal splatter of refried beans, lettuce, jalapeños, cheese and pico. Meh. I would definitely choose something else. Next we ordered some fries with a side of ranch. The fries that came were cold and stale and we had to send them back. The second round were really good. We did have to ask for our side of ranch three times before we got it but it was our servers second day. She was very friendly and the manager came over and checked on us which was very nice. We really went for drinks though and they were cold and cheap so overall we left happy. The restaurant is large with a long bar area, plentiful indoor dining and an outside patio. A week later, Double Dogs is officially open for business and I came back like I said I would. I think it's quite dangerous, to have a restaurant like this barely over a mile from your home that has good food, is open late, and has great service. This time around, I decided to mix it up a little. I ordered the Jalapeno Cheese Sticks and the Mushroom Swiss Burger (with an added fried egg). Jackson, my server, was a cool dude. Very attentive, good conversation, and great service. I would like to take a moment to praise all the waiters & waitresses here. I don't think a dirty plate or cup (or napkin for that matter) sat on the table longer than a few minutes. Everyone chipped in, especially the food runners. It's rare to see this kind of well-oiled staff. Granted today was opening day, but if you train your staff like this the first time, it should be routine. Anyway... The Jalapeno Cheese Sticks were cooked perfectly. I don't think I could have asked for a better cheese stick in terms of how well they are cooked. You see, I'm a bit of a cheese stick connoisseur from experience (if there are cheese sticks, I will order it). The problem with them (or any battered cheese) is that if you cook it too long, the cheese evaporates into the oil. All you get is a husk of batter with nothing inside. Cooked too short, you get a battered string cheese stick that's more rubbery than chewy because nothing is melted. While I do think (I could be wrong) that these aren't made from scratch, the batter was still good and had a nice subtle kick to it. Just pulling on the cheese stick broke the shell and out came nice stringy threads of melted mozzarella cheese. I love Double Dogs' marinara sauce. This appetizer was a good choice indeed. As for my main entrée, I chose the Mushroom Swiss Burger because that's one of my favorite burgers. I added a fried egg (for $1.50) because I love yolk-y, runny eggs on my burgers. Doesn't matter what kind of burger it is. The Mushroom & Swiss is a black angus beef patty covered with grilled onions, mushrooms, Swiss cheese, Duke's Mayo and Dijon mustard. Now... I think overall the burger was great. Greasy, juicy, meaty that really hit the spot. I'm not docking any points because I failed to read the description. What threw me off was the mustard. I like mustard (especially on regular burgers) but not on a Mushroom & Swiss. I like my Mushroom & Swiss burgers where the flavors of the meat, cheese, and mayo are front and center on my palate. The tang from the mustard threw everything out of balance. The burger was still enjoyable, but next time I'll tell them to omit the mustard. As I said in my previous review, Double Dogs is a good restaurant that was much needed on this side of town. Good food, good atmosphere, good music with all kinds of sports playing on their TVs. Hade to ask bartender if I should seat myself. He had to yell across restaurant for a server to come. Never greeted, she grabbed a menu, walked across restaurant and laid it on a table, then left. Waited 10 minutes for server to walk up and ask what I wanted to drink while she was inputting another order. Came back in about 5 minutes with drinks. Took my order briskly. 15 or so minutes later, a runner brings me cold onion rings and my burger. Burger was overcooked and flavorless. This was around 2:45 pm. No rush, lots of servers in dining room. I never got refills or any other attention until the bill was tossed on my table without a word. I will not repeat this mistake! read more

Double Dogs Gallatin was a fun spot to have lunch. We ordered the jalapeño fried cheese - super yummy. Great jalapeño flavor. We also ordered burgers, both were delicious and well sized for the price. My only complaint was that we received our fried cheese and then shortly after we finished them, another order came out so we clearly go someone else's order of fried cheese first. There were also a few odd fries in the basket which makes me feel like the kitchen was really busy. We also were given no extra plates or napkins even with our appetizer. We also had to ask for the drink menu and it took awhile for our drinks to come out, luckily, they are huge. If you want to wait for a hour for cold food this is your place. Pretty much gone down hill over last year but when your stuck with mediocre choices this is what you get. For what ever reason place is always packed. Last two times we went food was absolute garbage. Hot dogs used to be good. Not sure if they switched vendors or what ever but now they taste old and have a different flavor. Buns taste old. Just not good. Fries come out cold. Most of them look like the bottom of the bag But. When this is the standard in the area why try to be better. Service is extremely spotty. There are a couple bartenders that enjoy the Mother Nature plant a bit to much. Sit for extended periods of time while that chat with friends. Our recent experience at this restaurant was disappointing. We had to place our own takeout order through the website because the hostess didn't seem to know how to do it/or just didn't want to do it. After spending $100 on our order, it took an hour for the food to be ready. By the time we got home, the food was soggy, suggesting it had been sitting in the window for a while. The manager came out to our car to talk to us, and was very kind when addressing our concerns and offered two free entrees for our next visit. However, I don't think we'll be back. read more

We went here with a large group on a Monday night (Monday Night Football), and it was pretty busy. First off, they were extremely accommodating, allowing us to move tables twice to allow for more add on folks. Our server Alicia was incredible. Helpful with menu options, hot everything right and kept checking on us. I personally had the Buffalo Chicken tenders sandwich (messy but super delicious) and the slaw (which has a Thousand Island base that I wasn't used to).
