Great Thai place! Everything we had was excellent! Sauces are all delicious! Pricing is fair!

If you're in the mood for Thai food and you happen to be in the vicinity of Newtown Pennsylvania, this is your place. The food is excellent and authentic. It offers a traditional selection of stirfry noodle dishes. (I particularly love the black noodles), curry dishes, and loads of delicious appetisers. When we visited it was about 7 pm in the evening and the restaurant was largely empty although the service was fairly efficient it was a little "cool". It seemed no one was too excited that a party of four would walk in two hours before closing and enjoying two bottles of BYOB wine. I was looking for a central location to meet up with friends who were visiting from out of town. Pru Thai served the location criteria perfectly. The fact that all 4 of us had phenomenal Thai food was an added bonus! We ordered the Crying Tiger (grilled sliced beef with chili sauce), Pad Curry with Tofu and Vegetables, and Drunken Man Noodles with Tofu and Vegetables. Everything was extremely tasty, so much so that my husband wanted to go back the next evening to have the Crying Tiger again! The restaurant is small and located in the middle of a dated looking strip mall. It's easy to drive right by and miss it. The inside atmosphere is modern and well decorated. Our service was very pleasant and our dinners came out quickly. When we arrived around 6 on a Friday evening, the restaurant was mostly empty, but by the time we left closer to 8pm, it was packed. High 4/Low 5 - This place is kind of in the middle of nowhere and we were a little concerned with how empty the parking lot and restaurant were when we first got there. Loved the soft natural lighting that fills the room as the sun starts to set. App sampler was a great choice for someone like me who loves to try everything on the menu! The drunken noodles were also fresh and well-made (not too soggy or hard, not too oily, and plenty of other ingredients to compliment the dish). I struggle with the overall rating given the good food and not so great service. Starting with the service: it being a Friday, we decided to try a late, quicker dinner nearby and were happy to find that this place closed at 9:30 based on yelp and Google...or so we thought. We arrived at 8:30 and were told the kitchen closed at 9, which we felt was plenty of time to order, eat, and finish the beer we brought before they closed at 9:30 (BYOB is always a plus). My soup came in less than 5 minutes of ordering and the entrees came 5 minutes after that. By 8:55, we were asked for takeout containers and handed the check. Not sure if they provide dessert but that option wasn't given to us. The waitress was rushing to close us out and clean up the table as we finished our beer and before 9:15, she came up to us and said, "sorry we're done," prompting us to leave immediately. My bf had to help me finish my beer and when we asked to confirm when they closed, she handed us their takeout menu that showed their hours, saying that this location closed at 9 and it was their Clinton location that closed at 9:30. You'll see from my photo that their menu is not correct (We checked after that their website does say 9). The dinner was way quicker than we hoped and the interaction left a sour taste in our mouths, because we know other places that are a little more understanding and lenient with their hours. On the flip side, the food was tasty--not the best but will satisfy your craving if you're in the mood for Thai, for which I will give it four stars. I got the tom yum soup and drunken man noodles with beef and my boyfriend got the Penang curry, both with a 2of 3 spice level. As someone with fairly high spice tolerance, I'd say it was med-high spiciness which was perfect for me but a bit too much for my bf. We overheard afterwards that they do half level spice levels so would encourage using that scale. Maybe we'll give this place another chance (and come earlier) but right now, are upset with the customer service. First time here, after reading the feature on the owners in Edible New Jersey, was dinner with the family, 4 of us, 2 teens and 2 adults, and everything was excellent. We tried a variety- veg spring rolls, kanom jeeb (chicken dumplings), chicken satay, crystal soup with beef, papaya salad, siem bay shore, pad curry with shrimp, pa nang curry with tofu, and the eternal noodles with chicken. The food was incredible and while we ordered way too much, it was great to try so many different dishes. My faves were the papaya salad (my family doesn't enjoy the aroma of green papaya but this is one of my top Thai dishes when we go out!), the pa nang curry, and the eternal chicken. Pa nang curry spice was nice- I love spicy food and this was on the mild side of spicy but you could tell there was spice. The Pad Curry was a very subtle, complex but mild spice level. My only recommendation for this amazing restaurant would be to consider seating that is a bit more comfortable- the chairs are a little hard and basic- but otherwise we loved the experience and will be back. read more

We had been there a few weeks ago and the food was really good. So excited that Lambertville finally had a Thai restaurant. However, this past Saturday we went. There was a hour wait, no problem, we went down the street for a drink. Came back about 45 minutes later to check on things, was told to stay outside, they would call us when ready. Ok...she was a bit rude with her delivery but we went outside. Immediately someone came to tell us our table was ready. We waited for our appetizer for over a half hour while others who came in were served quite quickly. When inquiring on the status of the order we were told it was coming right out. Finally after 45 minutes we went to the back and was told that they would bring it right out. At this point the table next to us was waiting for the remaining meals for their party, at least a ten minute wait (as of when we left). We had no faith that we would see it "immediately" so we left. There was a lot of wait staff and they were moving quickly so I assume they have a kitchen issue. Also, there doesn't appear to be anyone overseeing the dining room, otherwise they would have noted that food was coming out very slowly. I'm not sure I would return at least not for some time. They have a lot to work out. So, we resort to driving to Sommerville, who has an excellent Thai/French restaurant. read more

We don't have alot of great Thai places near us, so when we saw Pru on a recent trip to Jersey we decided to check it out. Pru is a modern looking restaurant with a warm atmosphere, reasonable noise level, pleasant decor and friendly staff. There was also a good amount of parking on a Thursday at lunchtime, so that's a plus. Our waitress was very quick to take our order and bring out our food. I went with the Tom Yum and a green chicken curry and my colleague went with the Pad Thai. We split an order of chicken satay. The satay was really delicious. It was obviously just off the grill, well seasoned and juicy and went great with the Thai condiments. My soup was just okay. Not bad, but the veg was slightly al dente and the meat somewhat generic. I really liked my green curry. We had a good talk about spice level when I ordered, and I hoped to get 3 out of 5, or something to that effect. but it was an off the charts 5++. I ate it and enjoyed it but it nearly made me transport to a different dimension. Wooo! That was spicy! I didn't taste the Pad Thai but was told it was delicious. Pru gets 4 stars from me. Just like any foods, taste is very subjective. Loved the pad thai, but not everything else (calamary, duck curry, fried rice). Service was very nice and ambience was very enjoyable. Price is definitely on the higher end. I personally will not come back, but the place definitely deserves to be given a chance, and the foods may be the way you like your Thai foods. read more

Went to this little Thai place in the middle of a strip mall with friends who had been there numerous times in Pennington, NJ tonight, food and service was delightful. My partner is not an adventurous eater, nor a fan of Thai food, I wasn't sure what to expect ..... he had a house salad, the peanut sauce was amazing, our friends also had the house salad & the Tom-Kha soup which they both enjoyed, I had the Rocket Shrimp which were so delicious, I was a little sad that I shared with our table. We decided on the Inferno Chicken for my guy, didn't want to choose anything that would be too spicy or have any flavor combinations that may turn him off from trying Thai food in the future, it came to the table & was beautifully presented & flamed in front of him, the sweet & sour sauce was a delight to the palate. We tried the Crying Tiger, grilled sliced beef in a chili sauce, so tender and grilled to perfection, we asked for their chili powder to add spice to our liking. We also tried the seafood green curry, spiced just as we liked it ... hot, when you take that first bite you think it's spiced wonderfully, then as you take a little more you are left with that after spice that just makes your nose run a little & leaves you wanting for a tiny bite of rice to cool your mouth off. All in all a wonderful experience. Their dishes were all cooked impeccably, staff were sweet and attentive, tables were set apart for social distancing. Lighting was just enough to have a pleasant experience, whether you were out with friends or on a date. BYOB which is always nice and affordable. Will absolutely be back. read more

Pru Thai was on its way to getting a 4 review until we had our 2nd entree which killed it for us. Such a shame as everything else leading up to was good. Here is the story our evening out... We were the first couple to arrive, had the pick of tables, were provided menus and we asked 2 questions when the server came over. BTW, don't expect warm friendly personality as the elder female server was emotionless. We started by sharing two apps the Curry Puff, a pastry filled with chicken, potatoes, and onions served with cucumber salad and the Kanom Jeeb, steamed or fried chicken dumplings wrapped in wonton pastry. Both were nicely plated and very tasty. Not spicy, not sweet, just right and both were fresh and had a nice texture. The curry puff was not greasy. Both are winners and must-haves. We then ordered the Drunken Man Noodles, stir-fried flat noodles with egg, crushed chili, fresh basil, & onions with shrimp. 5 pieces of nice sized and butterflied shrimps (nice touch, not many placed split the tops of the shrimp), we asked for light spicy as it was indicated with an asterisk for being spicy. The dish was perfect, noodles not under or over cooked and the shrimps were clean, they were white and fresh. Up to this point, we were grooving along. Since neither of us had a real breakfast or lunch we opt to order one more entree. Since this was our first time my wife talked me out of ordering a fish dish, shame as their fish was Bronzino (a white Mediterranian fish). We were on the fence about the Massaman curry with chicken due to the lackluster reviews, however, by adding in our poor review, and it should tell you to pass on this dish; hence AVOID it. First, like the other reviews, the sauce was watery, second, the chicken was not fresh or had freezer burn, basically, we both spit it out the second we tasted it. Lastly, the dish was served highly spicy and that after discussing with the server who said a 1 was low spicy. This ending was a shame as it clearly ruined an otherwise nice outing. Food was horrible , watered down. They forgot my Japanese iced tea and I drove 40 minutes round trip. I called and they would not refund my credit card. Wanted to give me a credit, however I told them I would never come back!!! They started arguing over the missing iced tea. Finally!! A Thai place that serves Drunken Noodles the way I love it !! This is my first visit, so we got to try only a couple of dishes. Drunken noodles - Spot on, customizable spice level, nicely flavored with basil! Basil Chicken Fried Rice - Was good in general, could've used a bit more basil, it was a bit low on the flavor. Lunch specials come with salad or soup, but there is no choice in the soup, so vegetarians may just have to go with the salad which was pretty good and came with a delish sweet peanut based sauce. I've frequent this BYOB at least twice with girlfriends. Once for dinner and most recently for lunch. The place is dark and small with few tables than usually because of COVID. Which I'm ok with. Shows they are more concerned about the health of our their customers. For lunch we ordered Calamari, Pad Thai with chicken and the Curry Chicken. Was around to meet a friend and checked in to this place at 8.30pm. They close at 9.30pm so had to rush in our order before the kitchen closes. Ordered a Tom Yum soup with their #2 Spice Level and an Appetizer of Fried Dumplings. Soup was so good and spicy, my friends who were not interested in soup also digged into it and were completely awe with the taste. We ordered Pad Basil, Drunken Man Noodles and Khao Pad for our main course. They were amazing in taste and Quality was also so good. I would rate this one of the best Thai places I had visited. One of my friend told me about Pru Thai and I decided to give it a try this week for lunch. I've been working around the area for the last couple of years and didn't know it existed. I am glad that I was able to try it this week and see if I can add this restaurant to my lunch rotation. This place is located in a small strip mall next to TD Bank on 31. You can easily miss it if you are not paying attention. I actually came here twice this week because I was a fan of their food. It was delicious. I ordered Pad Pik the first time with their soup of the day. It was vegetable soup with a little bit of rice. I did not expect the soup to be so flavorful. It has chunk veggies and some rice on the bottom. The veggie was still crunchy because they weren't overcooked. For the Pad Pik, I told the waitress to make it Thai Hot (that's the hottest they offered). If you love spicy food like me, you need to make your food Thai Hot. From the first bite, I know they didn't cheap out on the spicy level. The heat packs a major punch. I was sweating throughout the meal and enjoying every last bite. I order Pad ginger my second time, and decided to go with level 2 on the spicy meter. I also chose soup this time around too. The soup of the day was beef, and it my opinion, the beef soup was even better than the day before. I could've eaten that soup with some Pad Thai noodles in it and call that my lunch. The beef was tendered and flavorful. It was wonderful. My Pad ginger was also excellent, with the fresh veggie and the Thai spice together making the perfect stir fry, although I will definitely get Thai Hot next time as level 2 didn't have the heat level I was looking for. This was an awesome hidden gem we found on Yelp! The service was fast and the server was very attentive. We got curry puffs, tofu tod, pad Thai, and chicken ladna. Our favorite was THE CURRY PUFFS!! I wish they sold those frozen and I could buy them in bulk~ Delicious ground chicken and potatoes coated in curry are stuffed in a very flaky pastry, served with sweet pickled vegetables that you can spoon on top of your puff. The flavor combo is amazing!! I personally loved the pad Thai! Great flavors, love the carrots and peanuts on the side. If you're looking for a safe bet, get the pad Thai :)! Had takeout from Pru last night, and sadly I don't see what all the fuss is about. There wasn't anything wrong with the food per se, but it was completely forgettable. My wife ordered the drunken noodles, and while the noodles were well made and the dish was not overly oily, it was also entirely flavorless. It wasn't just not spicy (despite the menu's heat warning), it lacked nearly any spice or flavor AT ALL. I had pork masaman curry (a protein I'd never seen offered in masaman curry), a dish also marked as being spicy, and I also requested it as such. The finished product was entirely underwhelming. The sauce was watery and had separated on the drive home, leaving a noticible sheen across the top of the container. The curry shared the Drunken Noodles' flavorlessness. While the dish was not packed with filler vegetables and potatoes as many Thai places looking to trim costs do, it was still a totally disappointing version of one of my favorite dishes. If you're looking for a totally non-offensive, vanilla version of Thai food to introduce nervous first timers to Thai cuisine, this may be your place. If you're not, I just can't recommend Pru Thai. read more

After reading all the reviews from the local Elite Squad, I had this place bookmarked (literally and figuratively) to check out ASAP. One rainy saturday night, our plans fell through and we were driving home thinking about dinner when I figured we'd finally try it out! SO glad we did! Disclosure: We ordered take-out, so I can't comment on the service or friendliness of the wait-staff, although what I saw of the inside was super adorable and definitely made me want to come back and dine-in! My husband and I are BIG thai food lovers, and have our go-to favorites without even seeing the menu. They didn't have one of our usual go-to's on the menu (Pad See Ew), so we ordered Shrimp Pad Thai - which was pretty yummy! I'm not usually a pad thai person because it's so simple, but it was good! 5 pretty big shrimps came in the order, plenty to share! The shrimp were seasoned simply, which worked with the dish. The pad thai was good, but for me - I prefer more high-flavors when eating thai, which is why I don't usually order it. Overall though, the pad thai is exactly as advertised, the traditional thai noodles with egg, bean sprout, & chopped peanut - simple, and executed very well. Our other go-to is Massaman Curry, which we ordered with beef. This was good - the sauce was creamy with coconut-ness yet had a slight bit of heat to it from the curry. Personally, I think it I could have used a little more coconut in the sauce, it seemed a little thin. The potatoes and other yummies in the sauce were cooked perfectly - and they even had bay leaves in there for flavor too. The beef worked really well with the masaman, and it was super tender! We also ordered an app because I was starving the steamed Kanom Jeeb (steamed or fried dumplings), which were actually chicken dumplings and AMAZING. There were 5 in an order, which is plenty to share between 2 people! The sauce was good, a bit sweet for me, especially since the dumplings were great without it! Interestingly, the dumplings had carrots and peas mixed in with the meat, which seemed like a funny combination to me, but it worked! This is not the MOST amazing Thai food I've ever had, but it is hands down the best place in this area, for certain! I can't wait to come back and try even more on their menu! My husband and I just moved to the area and heard good things about Pru Thai, so we checked it out and we are so glad we did! The food was some of the best Thai we've had. We ordered the calamari appetizer, which had a nice light batter and a delicious sauce, and then both ordered the chicken Pad Thai, which was way tastier than any Pad Thai we can remember having in recent years.
