Dinner here last night. We have been craving Thai food for a while. They seem to have a very strong take out business, we dined in. BYOB. Staff was quite nice. Nice decor on the inside. The food was pretty good. They were missing a few things off their menu but all in all we enjoyed the experience. I got drunken noodles, quite good, good flavors and not all that spicy. I got a level 3 out of 4. (That is their spice rating). My wife got wonton soup. She enjoyed it and said the broth was fantastic. We had dumplings to start. I had the lunch special Penang curry with edamame and spring rolls. Added a Thai iced tea and sticky rice with mango. Every single item was the best version of that meal I've had. SPICY means SPICY First I'd like to say that the food was sooo yummy. Since moving to NJ, finding authentic Asian foods has been difficult but I think this place does Thai Food right. Just remember when they ask how spicy you want it, any spice level will be very SPICY. If you do not like spice I suggest asking for no spice or mild. I asked for medium spice and the only thing spicier that I have ever eaten is the extreme spicy black ramen bags that were once a challenge on YouTube. Back to the review, the flavors were exceptional and on point. The veggies were fresh and well cooked. Nothing was overdone and the noodles were also cooked to perfection. I will obviously be going back but will be sure to ask for no spice. Covid-19 Takeout Review I was excited to have a Thai place open up relatively close to home. Thai Ginger provided a flavorful Tom Yum Soup and Massamun Curry. However, they failed to deliver on the Spicy Basil Chicken, Wild Ginger Shrimp and Chicken Satay. The Spicy Basil Chicken had no heat to it, despite the fact it had a spicy sign and chili as a main ingredient. The Wild Ginger shrimp with its $22 price tag was the biggest let down. It was rather bland and for the price the portion was small. The Satay also was unremarkable and tasted like baked chicken on a stick. Happy to find a new neighborhood Thai restaurant since our fav one closed down recently. We placed an order for take out and the man on the phone was very sweet and friendly. He checked to see what level of spice we wanted each dish which we really liked because some dishes we wanted spicy and some dishes more mild. Inside of place looked clean and nice. We picked up and ate at home, usually when you take food to-go it does not taste as good but this was not the case. Food was delicious and very authentic! I cringed when I read the first few reviews for this new Thai place. They had a soft opening a few weeks ago and it turned out to be a hard opening due to hordes of grocery hoarders who wanted a taste of something different. Experienced Yelpers usually try to wait to review a new place that is still ironing out their kinks, especially given the global pandemic circumstances we find ourselves in. Or take these missteps into account without totally bashing a business. I do hope that the all knowing Yelpic algorithm can put these 1 review reviewers into their proper " non recommended" category. I for one CAN recommend this place based on my one actual visit. I called in my takeout order and was told to pick it up in 30 minutes. I did provide my credit card info over the phone so there would be a no contact pick up. Based on the wait time I wondered how busy they might be? But as I pulled into the parking lot I noted that they were not; mine was the only car. I waked inside the mostly dark dining room to see a table front and center with my lone bag on it. I signed the slip and thanked the masked employees who maintained their social distance. I had one more stop to make but curiosity got the best of me, I had to look at my haul, and it looked and smelled great! Once home I tore into the duck Kee Mao first. This a broad noodle dish with a bit of chili oil, Thai basil and other aromatics with crispy and delicious duck breast. Much of the bird was hidden under the noodles and i was impressed by how much, and how good it was. I also tried the curry puff app, this reminded me of the curry you get when ordering Roti Canai, but stuffed into a samosa looking dumpling. Very different but very good too. But that noodle dish.... I thought I could save half..... but an hour later I went back to finish it all. Probably the best duck dish I've had in years. When thinking about my rating I contemplated going 5 stars, but with only one takeout I felt I needed to start with 4. That being said I did enjoy this meal more than recent ones at another local Thai spot that decorum causes me NOT to mention by name. And I'm already planning a midweek return for a lunch special takeout. I was so happy with my experience here I had to call back to thank those masked employees. The young woman who answered was very pleased to hear my compliments, and even started apologizing about the events from the previous weekend that generated those highly suspect negative reviews. Coronavirus Delivery Review I gotta be honest, this one has me rethinking everything. Delivery is convenient, but often adds disappointment to the food quality. Ordering out is so expensive, and stings when you're a pretty good cook. This might be my last review for awhile, haha. And sorry to pile on the brutality, but if I had received this food as it was during a dine-in experience, I'd totally give it two stars, maybe even one, depending on the service. It's a rainy night, toward the end of the long week that opened with a heavy duty snowstorm. I was looking for pure comfort. The reviews gave me hope, but I feel betrayed! But maybe it's an off night for the establishment? I have had plenty of Thai food but went with the basics tonight: Pad Thai, and Thai wonton soup. I know there are lots of ridiculous fees associated with the online ordering service, which inflated my $25 order to closer to $40 with the tip, but I was astonished by the small bag of goods handed over by my delivery man. The delivery fees are not the fault of Thai Ginger, but still: $17.50 for a small container of noodles and $7 for a pint of wonton soup, especially considering the poor quality of both, has left me mad at myself for not popping into the grocery store on my way home from work. At least I can reuse the containers, I suppose. Sigh. The one good comment I have: the soup's broth was phenomenal. Worthy of a star, on its own. It was complex and flavorful. I liked the bits of bok choy and cilantro in it too. I took a few pictures of the soup before I ate it and it was definitely photogenic, but it quickly deteriorated: the outer wrappers broke apart, disintegrating into the soup, leaving the wretched chicken balls perversely exposed. The balls were unappealing to behold, and even worse to ingest. They lacked seasoning and were dense and rubbery, and had I not been filled with remorse by my wasted money and sad meal, I should have tossed one chicken ball against the floor because I'm sure it would have bounced as high as the Super Ball I had as a kid. Slightly chicken flavored rubber bouncy balls sunken in an otherwise tasty broth. Not worth $7.50. And the Pad Thai crushed my soul. I was hungry and so looking forward to a bit of spicy sweet carby goodness, but it was as bland tasting as my picture of it is bland looking. I thought maybe I hadn't stirred it well enough, so I gave it a mix, and took another bite, taking care to grab a little chicken and bean sprout with the noodles, but alas, it was joyless, and the chicken may has well have been filet of tractor trailer tire blowout. So. Much. Chew. And the rest was texture-less mush. The nuts and sprouts added very little interest at all. Boo. So here I am, writing a harsh review, but knowing how fortunate I am to be in this position. I have money to have someone prepare and fetch my food. I have experience which gives me insight into what good food should taste like. I have power and internet and my soul isn't really crushed because of a bad meal. I bought take out a few weeks ago here, it was really good. I got drunken noodles with duck, the lunch portion which was suggested when ordering. The lunch consisted of the drunken noodles, two small spring rolls and edamame. It was a nice extra. I enjoyed my drunken noodles, I received a good amount of duck, also the full meal was big enough for me to have plenty for dinner too. Also, the springs rolls were tasty, and I enjoyed the plum sauce. It was a good level of spice for me, since I can't handle too much spice. I got the drunken noodles with no spice. COVID-19 TAKEOUT REVIEW: It must be particularly difficult to not only open a new restaurant business, but also to be attempting it during the Age of Corona 19. You can't develop a strong customer base without dine in operations, and you just can't sell as much doing take out only. On the other hand, if you figure out how to streamline the kitchen, advertise efficiently, and manage cash burn with low waste, it is possible to take root and survive in the carryout environment today until we are free of strict social distancing. I stopped in to Thai Ginger in the Foxmoor Shopping Center, after placing an online order 30 minutes earlier. Walking in all I saw was a single table in front of the house blocking access to the unadorned dining room. A single neatly packaged, stapled closed brown bag sat on it, with a credit card invoice and pen on top to sign and leave behind. Didn't see anyone, but heard noise in the back kitchen. I drove back to the office, unpacked and dug in with the accompanying wooden chopsticks. The Easy Set Lunch - 2 small Thai fried rolls and edamame, and a large container of veggie Drunken Noodles, was $10 + tax. While I only had one bite of the thai roll and tossed them out for an unpleasant sourness, and skipped the spicy peas for associating in the same dish as the rolls, I did thoroughly enjoy and devour the broad noodles loaded with carrot, broccoli, onion, egg pepper and Thai basil, all wrapped in an excellent "Thai Spicy" clinging brown sauce. It was as hot as I wanted; growing in vigor from start to finish. Totally fun and filling. Had the appetizer held its own, this would have been a 5 Star experience. As it was, with the initial disappointment, it dropped to 4, with the expectation that with prompting Thai Ginger will correct this shortcoming and come out with a more perfect combination. read more

After waiting for what felt like forever for this new Thai restaurant to open up, I am happy to report that it was worth the wait. We used Grub Hub to have dinner delivered last night, and we were duly impressed. Also, the delivery was right on time, so it seems as though some of the organizational/timing issues fellow Yelpers experienced during the first week or so after opening have been alleviated. I can't imagine the logistical concerns that must have gone behind opening a brand new kitchen with new staff during a pandemic-induced lockdown, but it seems like they've managed to work out the kinks. But enough about the back story, on to the important stuff: the food. The wife and I started with Curry Puffs, and we were very pleased with our choice lightly breaded and fried with well seasoned chicken, potato and onion filling served with a sweet cucumber sauce: fantastic. One of the better versions of this dish that I've had. I went for my absolute favorite Thai dish, Massaman Curry. The broth was thinner than I am accustomed to, and there were fewer potatoes and vegetables. In exchange, it was absolutely packed to the gills with chicken. Personally I would have preferred mine slightly heavier on the vegetables, peanuts and starches, but it's hard to knock a place for going overboard on the most expensive ingredient in the dish. Also, while the curry was a bit thin, that in no way took away from the complex flavors this dish provides. I was pleased with their version. My wife ordered the drunken noodles, and we both agreed they were excellent. It featured that beautiful combination of slightly sweet while also slightly spicy that can be hard to pull off. Thai Ginger did it beautifully. This dish was also jam-packed with chicken, and whoever packed the order obviously had to compress the meal to get it all to fit within the plastic container. They are certainly not skimping on portion size. All in all, this was a very satisfying meal. We look forward to exploring more of the menu, and hope they manage to stick around in a location that has not been conducive to restaurant success as of late. I placed an order on the Thai Ginger website last night for delivery. I selected the NOT SPICY option for every dish. When I began to eat dinner, the Penang Curry and the Lemongrass Chicken were so spicy I couldn't even take more than 2 bites. I tried to make it mild by adding white rice but nothing made the incredible hot and spicy food edible. My mouth felt like it was on fire. What a waste of money and each dish was $18! Plus the delivery fees and tax. My bill was $64. The only thing that I was able to eat from the order was the Pad Thai. I would not order from there again. The last time we ordered everything was not spicy and in fact was delicious which is why we went back. But if the spice level is not consistent, I am not taking any chances. read more

We ordered the Tom yum soup, green curry with tofu and the Thai basil with beef. We requested medium spice level and to us it was mellow enough - but medium spice for the Tom yum soup tasted spicy. Service was friendly and prompt. We were constantly checked on. For a Thursday evening the place felt mellow with a constant flow of takeout orders. Clean and inviting. We have been dining in and taking out Thai food for years from Thai Ginger but tonight we had a terrible experience with improperly closed soup that spilled all over our new car and ruined the upholstery. We called up and got a lecture about how it was well-packed and it was our fault because we didn't know how to deal with hot food in containers. There was no understanding at all. No offer to compensate for the soup which had all drained leaving just some Tofu. When we settled down to eat our Massaman Curry we found at least 8 large pieces of Star Anise, one of which I unfortunately bit into. This was a terrible experience; we were inconvenienced, our food dispensed all over our new car and on my husband's clothes, and then to see all the Star Anise in our food. We used to like this place but they were truly horrible on the phone, dismissive and blaming. They said they warn all customers about transporting hot food but they have never said anything of the sort although it wouldn't have helped because it was improperly packaged. A ruined dinner and evening. DO NOT TAKE FOOD OUT FROM THIS RESTAURANT. This is the place that replaced Ploy Siam in the Foxmoor strip mall. We started with a soup that was promising. The chicken app - the Larb was a deep fried dense minced chicken meatball served with a sweet sauce. Avoid. The drunken noodles came out more dried than drunk with sauce almost non-existent. Looked insipid. Tastlled even worse than it looked. No accompanying table sauces could retrieve that dish. And if that wasn't bad enough, the spicy beef dish was simply not edible! The beef was chewy, stale and had slices that were downright putrid! So, the dish went back almost uneaten. After explaining the situation to the waitress, she asked if we would like a 20% discount and that sealed the deal for us! Sorry yelpers- can't see this as a 4 star eatery! This is a once and done kinda place for us.
