The other reviews are right when they describe Phirom's dining room as opulent. It is definitely designed for the impression of high end Thai cuisine with an attitude for modest elegance and attention grabbing decor. It is worth a visit just for that. In addition, their lunch menu is a nice tour de Bangkok of their fairly broad offerings. At about $14., you get a two buck or more discount on the most popular dinners (curries, pads, salads, soups), plus a choice of one appetizer. Given the place was empty but for one other customer, I enjoyed this deal completely. All servers had a hand in delivering my meal to me, and I felt well attended to. The small bowl of Tom Yum Soup was loaded with veggies (carrot slivers, string beans, mushrooms, onion, baby corn & broccoli), and was heavily spiced with lemongrass. Woke up my lips and gums nicely. Alerted my sinuses to be ready to run. The Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles - 2.5 on the heat scale) was a full plate of broad noodles in a heavy Thai sauce and all the above vegetables. While the sauce could have been a bit wetter to improve the overall texture of the ingredients, it was still quite good. I finished less than half the dish and took the rest home. Galentine's, but make it Thai luxury. Tried Phirom Thai for the first time since it was picked for our annual Galentine's party. 25 powerhouse women-owned business ladies taking over the back room. Walking in felt like someone casually teleported us to Thailand. Giant gold sculptures, warm golden lighting, and decor that whispered soft Thai luxury while loudly saying "take pictures immediately." The private back room? Gorgeous. Luxe, glam, and perfect for games, laughs, and dramatic group photos. Food situation: We had a set menu: * Soup choice - veggie tom kha was the star (creamy coconut comfort in a bowl) * Veggie spring rolls + papaya salad to share * Curry + rice I went with red curry with fried tofu and honestly... the food delivered. Rich, flavorful, comforting... everything you want from Thai curry. Spring rolls were forgettable. I don't do papaya salad, but the girls who did were basically fighting for seconds so that says enough. And the Thai iced tea? Must order. No discussion. Now the plot twist: service. This is where the sparkle dimmed. I get it... big group, chaos, logistics. But this was booked in advance, and it felt like the restaurant wasn't staffed or prepared for a party of 25 plus regular diners. My food arrived two hours late (yes, two ) after most people had finished. A few others had the same issue, and allergy instructions kept getting mixed up. It felt like the kitchen hit panic mode. Beautiful Restaurant and very clean inside! Food is delicious and a little spicy. Our server was very nice and made our whole evening great. The inside is gorgeous and dripping with gold floor to ceiling. Beautiful restaurant to celebrate something special. The sampler platter is great to start with, lots of variety and not too filling (we got two for 7 people) got a red curry, two green curries, and a pineapple fried rice. All the vegetables were extremely fresh and crunchy. All entrees were delicious and flavorful. The red curry definitely had a kick to it. Service - 3/5 Ambiance - 5/5 Food - 3.5/5 (generous portions, and this is based on their lunch menu) Upon entering, one word to describe the ambiance: opulent. The minute you walk through the doors, you are greeted with a striking golden figure, which I believe is Kinnari, who is guarding the entrance to this lavish restaurant. The walls have beautiful painted murals, and ornate Khon masks adorn one of the back walls. It is also hard to miss the exceptional hanging leaves above, giving way to an enchanted and serene forest. While the restaurant was crowded by noon, we were quickly seated. After we had a quick overview of their menu, we decided on their lunch menu. Waiting for the waitress to finally come back to take our order was not, however, as quick as we were seated. I'm chalking it up to the place being busy at the time. After we placed our order, we were served water. My suggestion is to order a beverage, as their water tasted heavily chlorinated. Here's what we ordered: Appetizers: Phirom Dumplings - 3/5 stars. Two (2) steamed dumplings that were a tad overcooked. Their filling consisted of ground chicken and shrimp mashed to a paste encased in a dumpling skin. I think it is their rendition of Kanom Jeeb, which is supposed to be ground pork, with shrimp and vegetables, wrapped within fairly thin dumpling skin. Comes with soy sauce, as it was salty. Golden Fritters - - 2/5 stars. Two (2) fried dumplings that were very dry. Basically, these are the fried versions of Phirom Dumplings. These also came with a soy sauce condiment, but this sauce had a slight sweetness to it. Entrees: Drunken Noodle - 4/5 stars. It was a very good blend of savory and umami flavors, albeit a little too bold due to the heavy-handedness of the sauces. Plenty of mushrooms, string beans, and bell peppers, which are greatly appreciated. The tofu, being the chosen protein, was a tad overdone as the skin was a bit rubbery, and the inside of the tofu lost its moisture. I'm guessing these were cooked ahead of time and just reheated when people order them. Hence, the deduction of a star. Basil Fried Rice - 2/5 stars. Another classic Thai rice dish that is very popular, but this was too salty, sadly. It was hard to eat, so luckily, my husband shared his Drunken Noodle entree with me. We will take it home and add additional jasmine rice to lessen the saltiness. It was a huge disappointment, as I stated earlier, fried rice is a popular dish in Thai cuisine. I couldn't smell the aroma of the jasmine. I should have been able to taste the sweetness and savoriness from the basil, but again, it was extremely salty. What was odd was the texture of the rice: the rice was hard. I suspect the rice would have benefited from being cooked longer so that the water could be absorbed. Both entrees had generous portions. The service was polite. They didn't ask if everything was okay when they saw a plate practically untouched. The tables are a bit too close, as I noticed when people sat down or when the server came to place our food on our table. Very impressive place for a date and a great place to meet up with friends to get away from it all. Despite the fact that it wasn't a perfect meal, I would like to come back and try it again, but perhaps at a less crowded time. I have eaten there once and gotten take out a couple of times. I definitely recommend trying this place. It's very flavorful and since I like things spicy they can make that happen! It's decorated very elegantly inside. I think they may also have a separate room you can use for parties as well! It was a RhongTiam before but I think it's under new ownership. The interior is outrageous and beautiful. They added more seatings in the back as well. The food here is so well seasoned and flavorful. My favorite is the duck salad and pad thai. I wish the server could check on us more often, they didn't ask us how we like our food once in a whole meal But that's okay, I don't mind but just an advice here for the staff team. We went on a sun afternoon for lunch and it was quiet-ish. The service and decor first of all is top notch - so attentive, so pretty with all the gold accent pieces. The food is what takes this experience to the top though. We ordered the spring rolls at the start, and had the chilli cashew tofu, ginger beef and chicken yellow curry. All the food was generously portioned and very very tasty. The ginger beef was amazing and so simply sautéed. The tofu with chilli and cashew was on the sweeter side for those who care :) and the yellow chicken curry was creamy but very earthy. Had takeout so service wasn't a factor other than the person at the register was very nice and took care of me very quickly and efficiently. First time here and usually get the shrimp pad Thai and green curry chicken as my go to's. The shrimp pad Thai was very good. It had LIME! many other places have been using lemon or nothing at all, but this was a good sign that paid off. Had the cilantro and crushed peanuts. Very satisfying. Green curry was also very good. I got "regular" which had a nice kick. If I was to say anything, i would want it a little more curry flavor - maybe a touch too much coconut milk but it was very good. Other places in the area have gotten skimpy on what goes in but this had plenty of everything - chicken, peppers, eggplant, etc. The ambiance was as in the photos. Very nice. I mention these to highlight the good service but also to check items if you have food restrictions! We loved the place since it opened. But the last two times were different. The old staff has gone. I think so has the chef. Both times they got the wrong order and the food did not seem fresh. The tofu was tough and even though my husband and I ordered dishes with different sauces they tasted the same. The rice seemed undercooked and stale. Seemed like the food was from the night before.
