Great Thai food with friendly, attentive service. Everything we tried was good for sharing. The noodles and rice dishes have just the right "wok" flavor and aroma to them (sort of like that perfect subtly smokey stir fried flavor), and those dishes ended up being the group's favorites. We were surprised that the ambiance and environment also feels a step up with white tablecloth setting and dimmer lighting. I went here for dinner tonight! It was actually pretty dark inside the resturaunt and it was very empty. While I sat I saw a TON of people come in for takeout though so that must be where the main profit goes. The wait staff was very attentive but not overbearing. I got the Pra Khing (Chicken and bell pepper with a ginger sauce) which was delicious! I also got jasmine tea which was not nearly as hot as I would have liked but there could be worse things. I had the lettuce wraps with chicken and the Pra Raam (Peanut curry) the last time I went and they were both FANTASTIC! Consistent food here, good service. I had not been back to Ricky's Thai for 5 yrs because I found him so rude. I tried it again recently. Ricky wasn't there- the gals serving were very polite & helpful. BUT I ordered Pad Thai. It was the worse I've ever had!! Thick & GUMMY is the only way I can describe it. Usually there are visible peanuts- I didn't notice any. Maybe they were ground so small, they were invisible. & served with a TINY lemon wedge. Don't think I'll try Ricky's again. read more

The dish came piping hot in a generous portion, and had a good balance between noodles and vegetables / protein. Every ingredient was well seasoned but slightly oily though that's to be expected in a stir fried dish. Overall the dish was pretty good but nothing too special. I would order it again. About the restaurant: the place is nicely decorated. I went on a Saturday around standard lunch time, but the place was relatively empty, which was surprising for the level of food. The food is fresh and absolutely delicious, full of fantastic Asian flavors. The service was perfect. And because it's their first month, they offered a twenty percent discount, which meant our two lunch meals including soup cost only $22! (We left a big tip). read more

Ricky's Thai has great prices for tasty, large portions. Nice ambiance and accommodating, polite service. The starter salad was free and was a little pile of iceberg lettuce with peanut sauce. It's pretty skimpy but it's free so can't really complain, and the peanut sauce is some of the best I've ever had. I shared the pad thai with my sister. I've tried a lot of pad thai and this one is pretty solid, tasting fresh with good flavor and not oily/soggy like some restaurants serve it. I'm removing a star because there was a $3 charge for an extra plate for the pad thai-- the food wasn't split up or anything, it just came as usual on one plate but there was an extra charge to share it? I would understand if they divided up the portion with additional toppings, but they basically just charged us to use an extra plate which I think is pretty lame and cash grabby. read more

Decided to come by this place on way home this weekend. Had ordered ahead online for pickup. Had come here years ago and recall a pretty good experience. Had the chicken green curry. Very good taste - could have used a little bit more stuff in it (chicken, veggies, etc). The sauce/curry is a little on the creamy side but I actually like that better than the watery kind you get at some places. I'm a whimp so just got level 1 - have to get something because the spice adds to the taste and that was really good. May want to order a little extra rice because the curry sauce is plentiful and good. Also had a pineapple fried rice and a pad Thai (shrimp). Both were good. I don't know about others but i prefer my pad Thai with a wedge of lime instead of lemon (what they give to you). But seems to be more and more common. Maybe even a sprig of cilantro / coriander? Still, the pineapple fried rice had a good fry to it - wok hay power. And the pad Thai also. Both also had a nice portion. read more

Ricky's does it right! His Skillman, NJ, Thai restaurant is the second of two kitchens in his growing stable of excellent Southeast Asian houses. It is a beautiful dining room with hushed dark wood tones, Buddhas looking serenely down from the walls and box framed lighting hanging from the high ceiling. White linen and heavy silverplate flatware on the tables finishes the impression that something special can happen here. I was there for lunch on Saturday afternoon, but was advised upon arrival that the lunch menu was not being offered on weekends anymore. Too bad, but not a cause for major disappointment. Just adjust my ordering to keep the overall bill where I wanted it to be. I have been on a spicy noodle rage lately, and the Pad Kee Mao was calling my name. Skipped the soup and appetizer I would have requested otherwise, and simply added Jasmine Tea as an accompaniment. Spice level: a midrange 3 was good enough for me this day. My plate arrived a few minutes after on a white square ceramic. It looked fantastic, with shiny broad noodles, thin sliced chicken, a handful of medium shrimp, plenty of green pepper, diaphenous sweet onion and fresh mushroom. The hot chili paste was visible throughout, and soon proved to be all the heat required. It was delicious, with nicely chewy pasta and plenty of texture and zest from the peppers, chicken and shrimp with the shrooms absorbing the sauce. The capsesin quotient was on target. This dish was certainly in the running for best of breed among the dozen or so Drunken Noodle candidates sampled in the last several months. This is a family favorite! My family has been frequenting Ricky's since they first opened their doors. I personally enjoy the #48 and #50. For apps, I like the fried tofu and honey puffs.Everyone else in my family prefers any of the duck dishes. My tried finally changed up his order tonight and went with the #24. His favorite is still #56 but #24 is a close second! The owner Ricky is so sweet and fun. Never have had a trouble getting a table or finding parking. Enjoy! read more

Gave Ricky's Thai another shot recently for Dad's birthday and unfortunately going down two stars in rating... Yikes! Strike #1: Server forgot to ask us about spice levels. Yes, we also forgot to tell him too, but he immediately came back out with our Thai Iced coffees so we told him we'd prefer spicy on all of our entrees. He said they already started making the food so he can't change it. It was literally like less than 3 minutes later... any other restaurant would have a) confirmed spice level prior to making it or b) quickly mixed in some spices to make their customer happy (we make Thai food at home and everyone prefers diff spice levels so we know it literally takes seconds to make something spicier...) Strike #2: Thai Iced Coffee was awful. Strike #3: I almost don't want to include this, but.... the complimentary spring rolls were cold. I understand they're on the house, which I'm grateful for, but personally I believe there should be a standard. It's the first bite/impression of what someone has of your restaurant so it counts! Strike #4: Food was doggone BLAND. Immediately laying eyes on the food, I knew this could not satisfy my Thai food craving because it looked spiceless. Terrible! We finished the entire mason jar of spicy paste amongst the 3 of us, but the food was still so tangy and way too bland for us :( Strike #4: Service was terrible... yet again. Servers were literally reaching over our food while we we had our forks in our dishes to grab extra plates... AND didn't ask us whether we wanted dessert! We always get dessert for birthdays but a server just placed the check on the table and walked away. Strike #5: This is what broke it for me. The check came back with the word "TIP" circled and with stars next to 20% and 25%... not 15% though (see photos)... Very ill-mannered and disrespectful. I have the utmost respect for servers and understand that tips are how they make their earnings and will never tip less than 18%, BUT I do believe it is up to the customers discretion how much they should tip according to the service they were provided. We had dinner there for the first time after noticing it during lunch while getting subway sandwiches. From outside, it looked like a very fancy restaurant and we felt a bit intimidated by it. But we decided to go in anyway and have dinner there. We didn't not regret it. The servers were very friendly and we really enjoyed our food. We ordered Tom khaa kay soup, chicken skewers and a whole fried red snapper with sauce. Our food was very good, especially when it comes with such great service. Pad see Ew and Pad Thai are always good and that banana fritters are the perfect way to end the meal. Located in a small strip mall on route 206, Ricky's is a large restaurant that serves up some tasty Thai food in a relaxed setting. I've been here for both lunch and dinner, and each time the experience has been a very good one. The Thai spring rolls are delicious as they are fried perfectly and just the right size. The vegetable gang dang which is red curry and veggies is also very good. The only improvement they could make is adding more vegetables and less tofu. The service at the restaurant is great as orders are taken and brought to the table promptly. They are also great about taking orders over the phone for pickup. Any order placed is always ready within 15-20 minutes and the quality is always the same. Great restaurant and very good Thai food overall. read more

The owner has no manners and zero customer service. Very rude. Several folks including us have over the years received the wrong item for takeout. Most times we let it go but if we dare to call it in the owner denies making a mistake and proceeds to tell us rudely that the order was correct. That is just terrible customer service and now we are no longer either ordering from them or going to the restaurant. Yes they are local and convenient but there is a limit to their arrogance. Been here a few times and very good and authentic thai food in Princeton. The food is very consistent and always tastes the same when I come which is good. Waiters are all thai and they are very attentive. I had the lunch specials with the family (Pad Thai, Red Curry, Green Curry) and all were exceptionally good. I love Thai food, so a friend of mine that works in Skillman, suggested we meet here for lunch today. Boy, am I happy that she did! We met at 11:30, because the place gets fairly packed from noon on with the lunch crowd. Before we even ordered our food, they provided us with small salads with Peanut dressing. I have not tasted a better peanut dressing (and I've had a lot of Peanut dressings in my time). Many times these dressings are watered down, but this was thick and flavorful, yet not too sweet. I need the recipe, because it was so good. We both ordered the Pad Cashew. I ordered it with Chicken and my friend ordered it with Shrimp. We got spice level 3 and 4, respectively. It was delicious! The food was flavorful, spicy, fresh, good portion size, and the price was reasonable for lunch ($8.95-9.95). I just wish it was a little closer to where I live, but I can't wait to go back again for dinner and try more things off their menu!! read more

Today about an hour back, I walked in to order from rickys thai and am extremely disappointed. I ordered a fried rice, a red curry(image below) and a soup(no 10) tom kha gai (with chicken). The image below is of a dish claiming to be red curry but it is actually a SOUP they gave me not the usual red curry. Plus they overcharged me $2 for the soup which in their menu is supposed to be for $9.95, i was charged $11.95 for it. When i called them the owner was so rude and yelling at me that this is how they prepare it and hung up on me. Is this the way a restaurant which depends on repeat business supposed to behave with their customers? Thank you, you just lost a customer who would have given you a lot of repeat business. HORRIBLE. HORRIBLE. Low quality food compared to the price with absolutely horrible service from the owner. 1. Ordered a Pad Thai and a Pad Ba Mee for a pick up. 2. Found out that the food we received were incorrect. Pad Thai was replaced with some kind of Tom Soup. And Pad Ba Mee was made with Lo Mein instead of the thin egg noodles. 3. Called back the store and tried to explain the situation. I wasn't even mad at this point the food looked fine and we were OK to just eat the ones we got. I was calm. 4. The *OWNER* Ricky started to shout at me as soon as I explain that the order was wrong. Just like he did not want to hear anymore, he interrupted instantly with repeating "your name? Name? Name? Name? Name?" And I am not even exaggerating this. He said the word "name?" more than 10 times just to cut me out. 5. I was definitely starting to get frustrated at this point. So i told him my name. And he repeated the order that he claims to have received, which was completely wrong. 6. So I told him that wasn't the order we asked for. 7. His answer was nothing we can do since it wasn't him that took the order. He was literally blaming his worker for the mistake to avoid the situation. Plus he was keep forcing us that we were the ones that mis-ordered. 8. We were offered to comeback to the restaurant to resolve the issue, but we didn't want to make the long trip back to them. Not worth the effort. He never apologized. Very disappointed to the owner, Ricky, and most importantly the quality of the food compared to the price(tasted like a 4.99 lo-mien from food court and a pre-packed soup). Avoid. Absolutely LOVE this place- it was my first introduction to Thai food and I keep coming back! This is one of my family's regular spots for takeout or for a nice dinner out. The interior is very cozy and dimly lit, with carpeted floors and beautiful light fixtures. It is also BYOB so bring that bottle of wine!! The ambience is very calming and service is INCREDIBLY fast. I mean seriously, it takes like max 10 min after I place the order before the food comes. It is PACKED with flavor and oh so spicy if you request so make sure you say what level spice you want between 1-5! They also have health friendly options and can customize any dish by adding or removing ingredients. Portion is also huge. read more

My family and I have had several meals in this restaurant that were very good particularly at dinner time. A friend of mine who had been theer before and she was actually happy with the food, and I went to the restaurant last Wednesday for lunch. I ordered a PadThai and she ordered a lunch with broad noodles and duck. When our lunch arrived we noticed that the food was lukewarm, not any closed to hot or even very warm. In the process or eating I noticed the lack of peanuts, tofu and tamarind all three items that PadThai is known for. There were some peanuts but very finally ground, almost none existent. My friends dish was equally mediocre, the noodles were stuck to each other and the duck was burned. When we told the waitress our concerns she said she didn't understand why the food was not hot and that they never put tamarind in their PadThai. At this point we did not want to continue, apparently she did not know what goes into an authentic Thai dish or maybe the chef didn't use authentic recipes. maybe the kichen had a miss day. I really wanted to like this place and this is the first time I went. The service was "cordial" (as opposed to friendly). The interior is white tablecloth, but paper napkins. The interior is very minimalist. The lunch menu had a lot of interesting features, and I really didn't know what to choose. They start you off with a nice complementary salad with the delicious sesame sauce. I tried the curry puffs as an appetizer and they were really really good. The service suggested the tamarind duck or some kind of duck it was served over a spicy curry sauce with snap peas and bell pepper. Also add a side of jasmine rice. The sauce was very spicy hot. It was good, but heavy creamy and very spicy. The duck itself was very large portion. I guess duck generally is dense and heavy. So the whole meal seemed very heavy. I really like this place but today's impromptu visit wasn't good. Okay it was V-day and you should never go out on V-day, but... First I was expecting a lunch menu...there was none. Second, our waiter Tum, seemed quite clueless. When I asked about the peanut curry or the coconut curry, he said well if you like peanuts..but if you like coconuts...really. When I asked if the peanut curry was soupy he said Yes...it was not. He asked my husband how hot he wanted his dish but didn't ask me...and sadly it wasn't. I found the peanut curry so overly sauced with a heavy gloppy toooo peanut sauce. I felt full of lead after only a few bites. I will definitely give Rickys another try. And stay away from that dish.
