    General Tso's Chicken Lunch Special
    Ryan F.

Picked up take-out from Cheng's Garden on a Wednesday afternoon. Ordered the General Tso's Chicken Lunch Special, the Sweet & Sour Chicken Lunch Special, and an order of Crab Rangoon. Quality Cheng's Garden was the Chinese take-out that I grew up on as a child, but a recent visit reminded me of why I always enjoyed it so much. Splitting with family, we ordered two lunch specials and a side of Crab Rangoon. The General Tso's Chicken Lunch Special was fantastic. Large chunks of moist chicken soaked in a flavorful sauce. A little bit of heat provided by the included red chilis, but balanced well with the sweeter flavors. The lunch special also comes with pork fried rice and an egg roll. For the pork fried rice they used a yellow rice, which was soft and full of onions and chunks of pork. The egg roll had a nice crispiness, but was light on filling. The Sweet & Sour Chicken was not quite as good, but still a solid dish. The chicken was a bit more watery, but the sauce helped make up for the texture. The Crab Rangoon was a mixed bag, as the filling is among the best I have ever had. However, the wonton was too soggy, if it was a little more crispy it would have been perfection. Quantity The lunch special is a massive dish and easily enough food for two meals. The Crab Rangoon comes with eight large pieces. It is solid food and it is a large amount. Value The lunch specials are a fantastic value at under $6. Considering the quality and quantity, the deal cannot be beat. Even for Chinese take-out it is cheap. Ambiance Cheng's Garden is located in a strip mall in the town of Dayton in central New Jersey. The shop is extremely simple and set up only for take-out. When you walk in they actually have a pretty large waiting area, but it is just open space. A few chairs are lined up along the wall, in case you need to wait a few minutes for the food to be ready. They have no tables, so don't expect to enjoy your food on site. The rest of the space is the open kitchen, with a wall separating the space. No televisions are set up and a radio station plays in the background. Crowd There were no other patrons in the store, but they had four or five other orders sitting on the counter waiting for customers to pick them up. This place has been in business a long time and they definitely have a good amount of regulars. Service On the phone they told me ten minutes and when I arrived they had just finished putting the food in the containers. Fast and friendly is all you can ask for, and they provide. Parking Located in a medium sized strip mall, plenty of parking is available for customers. Extra Cheng's Garden is a solid Chinese take-out joint with hard to beat prices. While not perfect, they are about as good as you get when it comes to styrofoam packaged meals. I do think they could use one or two tables inside for people looking to enjoy food on site. It is a place I will continue to frequent when visiting my hometown.

The delicate…read morewontons were packed with flavorful filling and coated in a rich, aromatic chili oil that delivered the perfect balance of heat, spice, and savory depth. The sauce had just enough numbing warmth without overpowering the dish, and every bite was incredibly satisfying. The texture combination of silky wrappers and bold sauce made it an unforgettable starter. Beyond the appetizer, the restaurant offered a warm atmosphere and attentive service that made the dining experience even better. The presentation was thoughtful, portions were generous, and the flavors tasted authentic and carefully prepared. If you enjoy dishes with a little spice and a lot of flavor, the wontons in chili oil are absolutely worth ordering. I would definitely come back just for them.

Glad I made a reservation via Google Assistant b/c it was a full house plus tons of people waiting (1hr) for their takeout orders. Great sign! We ordered quite a bit for 3 of us b/c we're excited to try them out. We loved them all especially the wontons in the authentic sauce as it should be (not in sesame or peanut sticky sauce), the salt/pepper chicken as how I remembered from back home, the delicious noodle soup with tender beef and tendon, and the flavorful black bean fish. The restaurant is nice and clean. They're busy but the kitchen was pretty quick. The waitress brought out the dish as it's done, not waiting to serve all dishes at once. We actually preferred this way. The wait staff were attentive and friendly. We really enjoy our dinner. It's less than 30 min for us; we will definitely return to try some Sichuan dishes.

The service is very friendly and patient (and American friendly). The food comes out lightning fast. Everything is very reasonably priced. Best of all, it's all delicious. I tried stuff outside of my comfort zone and I loved it all. My favorite were the pork juicy buns (soup dumplings) but the most unique thing was the pan fried noodle which was like a crispy deep fried noodle that would soften as it sat in the sauce. The golden lava buns were sweet and rich and perfect for dessert.

We were second standing outdoors waiting in this big fat long line. Immediately upon opening for the day the line nearly forced entry near stampede and this cafe was immediately packed to full occupancy of patrons with free seating. The Yelp reviews are accurate and truthful. The food is great. This is a small cafe with only approximately eight tables. I do not recommend large parties of five and greater. It is no-frills, but not exactly "hole in the wall" type that lack in aesthetics for upscale lavish atmosphere but the deficiency is resolved in the food quality. There is one sole functioning restroom in the whole business, ergo, stand in line and wait. We entered hungry in a lugubrious sense of deep sorrow, but exited hunger pangs fulfilled. When exiting upon completion of our lunch meal, there was a line that quickly formed outdoors waiting. Unfortunately, access to this cafe in Edison, NJ is by car only and there is a free parking lot that is shared with neighboring businesses located in a small shopping complex. There are no business cards, and no takeout menus available. Customer service is efficient as the staff worked methodically hustling busy to take orders and fulfillment. Our male waiter was attentive to respond to our inquiries and make suggestions based on our desires. I was able to keep the sales receipt. Price is in the rationale realm of stagflation totaling $41.75. Nota Bene: No table hibernation as the table turnover is fast pace with a line overflowing outdoors which cannot interrupt the flow. My foodie synopsis: Pork steam soup dumplings, 6 pcs, siu2 lung4 baau1, 小籠包, $8.75 Very juicy, flavorful and great. It was served piping hot. This is my favorite default dish for every visit at any Shanghainese ethnic cuisine. However, there were no serving tongs provided for this particular appetizer which is industry standard. Preserved cabbage with pork noodle soup, syut3 coi3 juk6 si1 min6, 雪菜肉絲麵 $9.50 This is a satisfying Chinese comfort food. This noodle soup was abundant with noodles, pork and chopped vegetables. It provided warmth to my very broken heart. Shanghai chicken in wine sauce, zeoi3 gai1, 醉雞, $8.95 A traditional Chinese cold appetizer, aka Chinese Drunken chicken made with Chinese Shaoxing cooking wine. It has amazing flavor and texture to be deliciously enticing. Of course, the cooking wine brings flavor to this appetizer making you want more. Shanghai pan fried U-Don noodle, soeng6 hoi2 cou1 caau2 min6, 上海粗炒面, $11.95 Abundant noodles with good consistency and it not heavily filled with grease and oil.

The owner and service are wonderful and kind. Go for the lively mood and feeling and the great atmosphere too! We are lucky have this local treasure.

Even if there is a wait, we have never waited longer than 30 minutes for a table. The service is very prompt and waiters are very good at checking on you and refilling your drinks, cleaning up your table, or asking you if everything is good. The food is ordered via paper and pencil, you select what you want and provide it to the waiter. They send the order to the kitchen and you receive the food when it comes out. For an AYCE buffet, the fish quality is consistently pretty good at Hiro. They offer Nigiri and Sashimi on the menu, as well as classic and specialty rolls. If I could suggest one thing it'd be adding hand rolls to the menu. The tuna and salmon here are consistently good and the yellowtail was surprisingly good. They have a bunch of different appetizers ranging from edamame, sushi pizza, to tartar, most of them are actually very good. The kitchen entrees are very good as well such as the kimchi fried rice and the Mongolian beef. Although it's not the most spacious inside, the way they set up the booths and tables it gives you enough separation from other tables to not feel super crammed inside. Highly recommended for an AYCE sushi spot in Central NJ!
