The restaurant was very quiet and empty when I dined in. I ordered the Dynamite Roll and Chicken Pad Thai. The Dynamite Roll had good flavors but was a bit dry. I wish there was more kani and sauce to balance it out. The topping was about 80% panko and 20% kani. The Pad Thai arrived quickly, served hot and had nice flavors. It tasted good but the portion was smaller than I expected. The pad thai is a good serving for one person. As for the prices, it's great for sushi in the area. 3.5/5. It's a cute spot worth trying! read more

My go-to place for sushi and Chinese food. Everything is fresh and the owners are very nice.

Nice place to have lunch. Service is excellent. Our food was delicious. There are booths lining the walls, tables in the center and a sushi bar. Definitely stop by to eat. read more

I had a salmon teriyaki dinner. The fish was very fresh and the meal came with a nice portion of vegetables-- zucchini, broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, rice, and a salad. A very good value. Nice to get a fresh, simple, nourishing, tasaty take-out meal for a fair price. read more

Let me preface my review to say I managed a premier Hong Kong style restaurant in the past, so I know all Chinese menu items from ingredients and sauces to the finished dish. I have not been a faithful customer without reason for years...and all I can say is, you can depend on FRESHNESS... nothing is more important. Secondly, sauces are one of the things that moves Chinese food to the top. And, they deliver! I wish our area's Asian restaurants attempted to attain these standards, but except for some awesome more upscale sit-down restaurants in this genre, most (take-out) restaurants fall Miserably short. Please trust me and give them a try... and they are also sit-down. Love you Happy Wok! read more

New Happy Wok in the Pennington Shopping Center is a Chinese owned Asian fusion restaurant that offers Sushi, Bento Boxes, Thai Curry and Pad Thai, in addition to several standard fare Chinese dishes (General's and Sesame Chicken, etc.). The room is dark cast with booths along the walls, a long banquet table in the middle and small Sushi Bar in the front corner across from the entrance. I stopped in for lunch yesterday and was greeted by the mamasan, who seated me and handed me a menu. She returned to take my order of Chicken Katsu bento box, with small California Roll, Fried Spring Roll, White Rice and a bowl of Hot & Sour Soup. I know I was mixing among the national cuisines, but that is what a fusion restaurant allows that is not otherwise available in a single culture kitchen. Very glad I took that approach. The best came first. The Hot & Sour Soup was terrific, and about the best rendition of it I have enjoyed in a long time. Everything was freshly prepared from tofu to mushrooms and beaten egg. The standout ingredient was the use of Thai red pepper flakes in the pot. It helped make the creation more hot than sour, which was an eye opening experience. Loved it! From there, most of the rest was pretty standard. The chicken breast breaded and fried was thin and crisp, with a thick Hoisin - like dipping sauce. Under the bird were steamed veggies which added interest and health into the equation. Decent. The sushi roll had a freshness, but was otherwise unremarkable. Same for the Vietnamese spring roll which was oily and little more than cabbage and tiny slivers of carrot and cucumber. I skipped the rice as unnecessary starch. I also appreciated the hot green tea that was refilled twice without extra charge to the meal. All this for $12, plus gratuity. It wasn't creative after the soup, but a decent, filling midday nonetheless. read more

This is a solid 4 star hole in the wall Japanese / Chinese restaurant. There is nothing special about the decor and it's tucked away inside the Pennington Shopping Center. This is what I would call a "sleeper" restaurant. Upon entering I expected no more than a standard run of the mill meal. However, all three of us in my party were pleasantly surprised. We were looking for a lunch spot in the area for sushi and Chinese fare and after a quick scan of Yelp I decided this would be a decent spot. When we entered on a Wednesday afternoon just past 12PM there was nobody in the restaurant except for 1 person who was waiting for a takeout order. Our server approached us with a smile and handed us the paper take out menu's (I was a bit surprised a restaurant didn't have a nicer menu for dining in). She immediately let us know that they have a lunch special and turned a menu over to show us. There were a lot of decent choices so I ordered the Sushi and Sashimi lunch for $15.50(4 pieces sushi, 9 pieces sashimi, and a tuna roll that also came with soup). I opted for the hot and soup. My wife ordered the Toro Special Sushi Lunch for $13 (tuna, salmon, yellowtail, eel suushi, and a tuna avocado roll). She also chose the hot and sour. My mother in-law ordered the Shrimp Lo mein lunch box for $10 (served with a california roll, soup or salad, rice, and a spring roll) She chose the wonton for her soup. We also ordered 2 hot green teas which we waited about 10 minutes for since they brew it fresh from fresh tea. The green teas were fantastic and earthy. These were 75 cents each,,,,not bad. The soups came first. The hot and sour looked so good and when I tasted it....OMG it was incredible! I have had my share of hot and sour and consider myself a connoisseur and this soup, at this small place in the Pennington Shopping center was the BEST I've ever had! I immediately ordered a quart to go for $5 so I wouldn't forget after we ate our lunch. Next came our meals. The lo mein was as to be expected and my mother in-law liked it. The sushi, although not the high end of quality sushi was fresh, delicious and melted in our mouths. The presentation and portions were great. The sushi check took the time to create an impressive looking display including a small panda behind a real bamboo looking jungle plant on the corner of my plate with green kale nestled around the sashimi. All in all, I would certainly return everytime I'm in Pennington and this would be my first choice for sushi in the immediate area. Also, every time I pass by I will be compelled to stop in and grab a quart of their amazing hot and sour soup to bring home. read more

3-3.5 rating! I'll say that this is a good take out spot and maybe less of a dine in spot. We came here on a weekday around 7pm and it was empty inside, but very busy with delivery orders and pickup. The woman working here that we met was very nice but understandably overwhelmed with the amount of orders the kitchen needed to do in addition to us and one other table eating in house. We ordered: miso soup, fried pork gyoza, scallion pancake, dynamite roll, and Philly roll. The fried pork gyoza and scallion pancake was good but they were both over cooked. The scallion pancake didn't have many layers or chewy texture only crispy. The rice was a bit dry. Our sushi took quite a long time to arrive to the table even with the understanding that one of the rolls was going to be briefly fried (also over cooked). I'd consider coming here again and getting take out and trying the entrees! read more

Delicious white meat chicken. Absolutely stellar, have not sat down to eat. Always gotten takeout. The combo is good and the portions are good for leftovers. Place looks cute inside read more

Delicious, fresh food , generous portions at a good price. Pleasant staff, too. Love their Pad Thai and Philadelphia roll. read more

The sweet and sour chicken batter was crispy and light, and the chicken was moist and juicy--not a common thing in my experience. The hot and sour soup was great. The chicken Thai with spicy mango sauce was plentiful and delicious. The service was quick and solicitous. Will go here again! read more

Very Happy with the food and service at Happy Wok Pennington. My daughter and I shared several very nice meals at this Pennington hidden gem including her birthday. The Sweet and spicy soup was outstanding as well as our sushi and sashimi entrees. My compliments to the Itamae! read more

First time visiting Happy Wok and it was a pleasant surprise! The food was fantastic! Everything was fresh, hot and delicious. We had the General Tso's Shrimp, Thai Basil Shrimp, Pad Thai and crunchy tuna roll. I haven't had Asian food this good in a very long time. The restaurant is in a strip mall but don't let that deter you. You will be so happy you stopped in. I'm thrilled that I have a new favorite restaurant in Pennington. read more

This is one of our go to takeout places. We're always happy with our orders, which usually stick to traditional takeout-type items.

I used New Happy Wok for delivery one night because they're one of the few restaurants that delivers to my area. That said, I can only account for my ordering experience and quality of the food I ordered. I used the Yelp app to order a huge amount of food for only $30 or so. The app gave an estimated arrival time, and New Happy Wok arrived with the food in less time than was estimated. We tried the vegetable lo mein, chicken pad thai, spring rolls, egg rolls and edamame. I'm happy to say that they all tasted good and arrived hot, along with a ton of fortune cookies. My only note is that some people said the pad thai could have had a little more sauce. New Happy Wok does a great job giving you your money's worth, which is big in my book. read more

We have ordered from here a few more times and now expect the long wait times. We are also clearer about dietary needs. We will still keep looking for a better option but overall this place is great if you do not have a serious allergy. Stay away if you do as they do not understand how serious allergies can be. PF Chang's is the best for respecting allergies. My daughter has a health issue so for her we are very careful with our ordering and checking what she eats from here beforehand. read more

Love the hot and sour soup. Egg rolls are excellent also. Nice people. Also had the sesame chicken which was good.

This restaurant is never busy and I have no idea why! I love the vegetarian lettuce wraps with tofu! Sauce is amazing! Portions aren't as big as other Chinese restaurants take out, but still too delicious to pass up! read more

My childhood friend and I checked out Happy Wok while we were home in NJ for the holidays. Growing up we frequented a different sushi restaurant in the area but it seemed to have gone down hill over the years. So, we were excited to try somewhere new! I knew ahead of time from Yelp that Happy Wok is more popular for take out than eating in. So, we weren't surprised when we were the only ones in the restaurant. It was quiet but we quickly got comfortable. Our waitress was very attentive and the sushi was delicious. As was also stated in prior reviews, the prices at Happy Wok are exceptional. My friend and I shared a Spicy Maki Combo and Maki Combo A. Our bill was only $30! This wasn't any low quality sushi either. Happy to say that Happy Wok is now our go to sushi when we're home! read more

Love this place, the sushi is always great and the service is very good. Really love their boxes for lunch - a lot of food but very fair price. It doesn't seem to have that many visitors though, maybe because Edo Sushi (the place it replaced) had mixed reviews... but definitely check this place out! The new management has done an excellent job with it. It's now my go to sushi place in Pennington. read more

New Happy Wok - Philly roll, dragon roll, Godzilla roll, and a tiger roll! - Sushi Bars Near Me - Pennington, New Jersey

I've given this restaurant 3 tries and each time was mediocre at best. The first time my tuna sashimi was only barely defrosted (still frozen in the middle). But the real issue is their timing. I've placed online orders each time and come in on the pickup time and it wasn't ready. When I went in most recently, it was ten minutes AFTER the designated pickup time. The sushi chef only acknowledged me when I said hello by telling me "two minutes". My food wasn't ready for another ten. The food was awful, not impressive, and if you're on a time crunch don't expect to get sushi within the pickup window or even within twenty minutes around then. Frozen sushi, and the miso soup tasted like straight chicken broth read more

Food is always fresh and delivered quickly. Not the best Asian food I've ever gotten (meaning delicious recipes), but never dissatisfied or disappointed in the food quality itself. Good local option for delivery when you're too lazy to move from the couch. read more

Best sushi place in the area. This place is a gem. Very fresh and very creative sushi rolls and dishes. Their all you can each menu is very fair. The Salmon Lover and the Crunchy Tuna are my favorites. The Mexican Roll is also very creative. They do a solid take out business so don't be fooled if the place looks empty. Go in for a great meal. You will not be disappointed. read more

One of my favorite Chinese/Japanese hybrids in the area. The staff are super nice, and the General tso shrimp is top notch.

Hands down my favorite sushi place around! All you can eat sushi is totally worth every penny! What they dont tell you is the whole menu is also all you can eat which is great!! It is usually not crowded at all, and super easy to get a seat. The people who work here are always so pleasent, and personable! read more

We ordered delivery from this place for the first time. Delivery: I would say very good timing for the food, not too long. They also arrived when they said they would! Service: Very nice delivery person. Gave him a good tip Food on the other hand, was also good. Nothing super special. I ordered the chicken lo main and it was extremely classic and simple lo main. My final opinion would be that the food is good but not mouth watering. read more

HOLY SH*T PEOPLE U NEED TO COME HERE!!! so yummy its unreal and the lady that works here is beyond cute. Chicken lo mein?... BANGIN.

This location has had a Japanese restaurant for many decades with very mixed results. Met up with a friend today to try again and I/We were highly impressed. Both fans of Sushi/Sashimi, the lunch combo was in a word, Terrific! Beautifully prepared, fresh, Proper Size cuts and rolls, even the green tea and ginger dressing on the salad were obviously made fresh from real ingredients. 'Sagami' in Camden is my standard of Excellent sushi, this place is the best I have had in Central Jersey besides there. read more

Lady is very rude on phone and unpleasant. sushi is decent, over the attitude every time, wont be back.

Delicious Food and Excellent Service- Good for Events! Happy Wok prepared two delicious trays for an event in my office today! We did a large tray of dumplings and a large tray of mixed sushi. The food was fresh, beautiful, and well-priced. The service was outstanding. They went the extra mile to make sure the order was ready on time and exactly to order. Please support these hard working restauranteurs! Thank you, Happy Wok:) read more

Shrimp dumplings are small and doesn't have much shrimp in it. Teriyaki chicken is very salty.

Food is good! Doesn't taste too salty or fake. Delivery is always on time. And the restaurant itself is extremely nice.

I wish I could give no stars. Our order took an hour and 10 minutes to get to us. When it was finally delivered, we were promised 10% off of our order for it coming so late if we call the restaurant the next day. However, our order was detailed to come with soup, which we did not receive. When I called, the woman who promised me 10% off answered, spoke over me the entire time and told me they came earlier than they did and that I held them up, that we needed to specify that we wanted soup even though nothing on the online menu said that, yelled at me for calling on their lunch break, and hung up on me. I am appalled by the horrific customer service I have encountered and the rudeness of this woman. The food was okay, but I will NOT be ordering from here again, and I urge you to pick a different choice as well. read more
