For an AYCE spot and the pricing, you can't beat this spot especially with the great quality sushi you get here. Sashimi was so fresh. Lunch was $26 per person...seriously can't beat that. My favorites were the salmon and the yellowtail sashimi/sushi. Appetizers were great too...love the shrimp tempura and crab tempura. Two rounds of sushi plates, definitely got my money worth. The server was even able to fluently translate for my Mandarin-speaking aunt and uncle. I only take off one star bc I thought there was a lot of sauce on the sushi rolls. My husband and I are fans of another all-you-can-eat sushi place in the area, but wanted to try others out and Masa was one of them. We only liked one of the specialty rolls, and the biggest issue was how fishy of a taste the rolls had. I don't expect high quality for an all-you-can-eat place especially considering it's only about $25pp for lunch, but the other place we frequent is a lot less fishy. read more

Masa- wow. Went with my family tonight- 2 adults, a teen (obviously full price, no issue and my fourth grader who looks like and is a little kid! We wanted to do the "All you can eat." We definitely didn't take advantage and 1/2 our food never even came out. We never complained. However- they made our son go get measured and claimed he was 2 inches taller than allowed for the kid's all you can eat. That meant we would be paying $30 for an elementary aged kid who wanted chicken nuggets and cucumber rolls. Next- we had some leftover sushi. They claim we would be surcharged for that. After a painful battle (now the second of the night), he told us it was "morally wrong" that we would argue. Morally? If going to battle or being financially exploited is your jam, enjoy the place. TLDR: Good value but very slow and they always hold back part of the order. The food is a good value for an AYCE restaurant. Service can be slow though, so budget at least an hour. Also be aware that they never serve everything you ordered unless you ask for the rest. We used to come once a week as a party of 3 or 4 for dinner between school and extracurriculars, and every time we were confused because it seemed like some of us didn't get everything they ordered. The whole table orders on one slip, so it can be hard to remember who ordered what, and for a while, we blamed our memories. Then we started taking pictures of the order slip. Systematically, every single time we indeed only got part of what we ordered. Yesterday it happened again, and this time I was told that part of the order was kept "on standby" and would be brought out later "in case you want it." So based on our prior experience, this appears to be done routinely and by design. Tacitly withholding part of a guest's order is unacceptable. (It's also in direct contradiction to the self-description above, "Everything served in your desired portion.") I can only assume that they do it to protect their bottom line. FYI the restaurant already does have a stated policy to charge extra for any uneaten AYCE food (pretty standard for AYCE restaurants). So this practice is not only patronizing and unwelcoming, it's also unnecessary. My recommendation if you're considering going here: take a picture of your order slip and check the order when the food is served. read more

Cheap, very yummy ayce sushi, highly recommend. The lunch price is ~$24 and the dinner price is ~$29, really good deals for ayce sushi (especially since they don't do weekend pricing). The sashimi is good quality, and the gyoza are juicy. The sashimi was my favorite part, especially the salmon and mackerel. The rolls were also good, except they had a lot of mayo, which I'm personally not a fan of (but objectively, still yummy). Been to Masa Sushi multiple times. As an all-you-can-eat (AYCE) spot, everything is made fresh to order. I've been here countless times, and the experience is consistently solid. i still do love this restaurant but I wanted to update my review. the food itself is 4.5 stars and you can't be the price for all you can eat. however, the service could improve. we were told it was 15 minute wait but ended up waiting an hour. i think they seated people before us that had gotten there after us too. I'm not certain but I think they were skipping over parties of 2 to get to the larger parties which isn't okay. also their bathroom needs to be cleaned more regularly. and the floor was very slippery almost like they washed it but didn't clean up all the soap. Not the greatest AYCE sushi place. I'd give the hot food a 3.5/5. Was slightly impressed by the tonkotsu ramen. The shumai was steamed, which was a nice change from the usual fried ones you get at sushi buffets. Sushi was disappointing. The sashimi looked thin and sad--a night and day difference from the photos posted here a year ago. Also, the yellowtail maki rolls had a weird medicinal flavor. The specialty rolls and nigiri were the better options imo. Also, there was no hand roll option. Service could be more attentive. We had to ask multiple times to refill our drinks. Nice ayce place with sashimi included, unfortunately it just wasn't impressive to me. We ordered a lot of specialty rolls but only 3 were really good. My favorite dishes to order were the lemon salmon roll, shumai, and egg custard sashimi. The most disappointing was their crab sashimi and bbq squid. The crab sashimi I'm pretty sure was imitation crab and the squid was overcooked and hard to chew, like rubbery. Their chicken hibachi was okay. read more

I used to love this place for several years but then the list for reasons not to go there just kept getting longer and longer, and I realized that I just didn't want to spend my money here anymore. The biggest reason is when they charged me an adult price for my eight year-old child, who unsurprisingly ate only nuggets and fries there. They based the price on his height, which is not particularly tall. He's average height. I argued with them and they wouldn't budge. I think the service is terrible. They seem disorganized, and you have no idea who your waiter is. It just seems like the sushi makers, the manager, and some of the waiters are just unhappy. Coupled with the dark- color and dramatic decor, it just doesn't feel like a happy place to eat. The wait for takeout is super long, despite the pickup time they give you. You just end up waiting there with a crowd and everyone is impatient. And the restaurant just doesn't seem to care. The sushi is good, but not really worth dealing with all of this. My friend introduced me to Hiro in Plainsboro, and I love it. In fact, I don't think masa has ever been as good as hiro. It's a little more expensive, but the menu is a lot more extensive. The buffet price also includes medium sized dishes like Korean beef short ribs, pad Thai, different Japanese salads, etc. The service staff is really nice, and they're so quick. I think the owner has a young son who sometimes comes and helps out behind the counter and he also displays some of his collectibles on a shelf. I've been here a few times before and have never been impressed. Today was no exception. The food is mediocre. It honestly wasn't worth the 20 minute drive or the 15 minute wait for seating. My ramen was terrible. I've made better ramen in Iraq! We all ordered from the All-you-can-eat menu, and maybe that changes the meaning of food, but when you tell me tonkotsu, give me tonkotsu (with all of the ingredients)! The rolls were good though. I was more upset about the ramen and upon, that no one was able to finish. The service was pretty slow, but I can't fault the girl since it was a busy night (somehow). This review is for the all you can eat dinner buffet option. I went on a Wednesday night and was surprised to see that it was pretty busy. My recommendation is to go as early as possibly for dinner if you are able to. Dinner also ends at 9 P so be aware of when you plan to go. It is also a BYOB location so if you are wine drinkers be sure to bring your own! Even as a huge soup lover who loves all different soups I'd recommend to skip the soups here. I've done you the big favor of testing two out (spicy seafood soup and tom yum soup) and I would say it's not worth having especially since the sushi is so delicious. Surprisingly the kani and seaweed salad were solid and so were the dumplings (they took the time to boil them pan fry and had a nice crunch). The onion rings were also super crunchy! Now to the main event - we ordered many types of speciality sushi rolls and sashimi. The one speciality roll with lemon was SO unique. I would go back and just order the one roll alone. The sushi at Masa has always been average at best, but that's to be expected from an all-you-can place. Pre-pandemic, I would've given Masa 3 out of 5 stars. I felt the price was worth it for what I expected. Having gone back for the first time since the pandemic, I have to drop my rating to 2 stars. The price for all-you-can-eat is up but the quality of both food and service has gone down. The rolls are way too heavy on rice to the detriment of the fillings. This was especially apparent on the Philly roll that had hardly any cream cheese. I went for lunch there was a single server working the packed dining room; she did not come by unless flagged, even when we ordered the first round of food. We were given one cup of water each and no refills. I understand that restaurants in general are dealing with staffing shortages, but it particularly stood out here. All of the food and drinks were served on paper plates, trays, soup cups, and drink cups. I suppose it was COVID-related (even though it's been evident for a while that surface transmission is minimal), but it still felt bizarre in 2022 and did not really make for a great dining experience. I can't believe it took me almost 4 years to return to this glorious place of unlimited sushi! I love Masa Sushi because as someone who likes to "try a little bit of everything" this is the most perfect place on earth. For about $40 pp you get unlimited FRESH sushi, soups, salads, hot dishes and even dessert. We came with big appetities and ordered 4 of their gourmet rolls, some chicken teriyaki for the kid, shumai, edemame (because we need our veggies), and dumplings. Wait, this was only round 1. I won't bore you with what is better or ideal, because that's the fun of an all you can eat place - try things you normally wouldn't! Even my 4 yr old tried sushi for the first time here and liked it. The ambiance is more adult, great for friends and best of all it is BYOB! Don't be turned off that it's in a strip mall in Jersey, trust me the food is delicious and the service is great. Go run around the block to make some room for food, and then get in your car and check them out. Also save room for the red bean ice cream, yes, it's better than the green tea. read more

As others have mentioned, wait times are quite long and the paper plates are definitely an odd aspect of the dining experience here. The ordering system is also a little weird and confusing if it's not explained to you - and you should definitely try to flag down a waiter before you place your order on the phone/confirm it went through successfully. I still enjoyed the rolls which were large in size and well-made! Everything tasted fresh and I was pleased that everything I ordered ended up at my table. You get what you paid for $23.95 for the lunch AYCE. At 1pm the restaurant is pretty packed and kitchen can be kinda slow. Menu is a bit restricted (I.e. no tuna or yellowtail sashimi). The quality of the fish is a hit or miss--some days the fish is alright, and other days it has a strong fishy taste. Yakitori was bland and was not marinated beforehand, and the spicy salmon + tuna is a a bit "funky" in terms of the taste. Have been here three times and left with a bit of a stomach ache two out of three times I've been here... I think it might be the spicy salmon/tuna given the since I had none the day my stomach felt fine). I do like the shishito peppers, eggplant miso, and hibachi grill/noodle items. Just proceed with the raw fish and spicy salmon + tuna like a roulette. read more

One of my favorite AYCE sushi restaurants ever. Great variety of items for sushi lovers as well as those who prefer cooked items. On busy evenings, service can be slow but that is to be expected. Booths are a rare commodity so it's nice when you can get one. Otherwise be prepared to be squeezed into a tight table with others in close proximity. I have no issues with that. It's part of the atmosphere. I'm giving 4 stars because the lunch and dinner are comparable in terms of price but some items are not available at lunch time. It's a minor thing but I do believe the price difference should be increased between lunch and dinner (drawing from memory...$24 vs $28 thereabouts). Great place for take out especially if you take advantage of their unbelievable pandemic special. For $50 you can select any 3 appetizers, any 4 rolls (including special rolls), and any 3 entrees. The quality is very good and the staff is very efficient. You can order online and when you pull up in front of the restaurant there is a sign outside with a number to call to let them know you've arrived. Your order is then promptly run out to your car and all the necessary covid precautions are taken by the staff (mask and gloves). I don't believe the indoor dining is open yet but before the pandemic this was an AYCE joint that was on my list to try. However, It's definitely worth a try as the food is fresh and the price is certainly right. read more

I've been here many times, and it is consistent in quality every time. The restaurant is clean, with a modern look and we are always seated fairly quickly. The all you can eat menu has a good variety of options, and the paper slips are easy to navigate and fill out without feeling unwieldy, and regularly have new options. I will say, that while everything that is made is flavorful and fresh, I have often found that the all you can eat patrons seemed to be served at a slow pace. If you choose to go with this option, try to figure out most of what you want at the first shot, so you aren't waiting a long time between orders. Also keep in mind that much of the time, the portions for this menu are not large, so you need to be mindful of that when ordering, especially if you're having dinner with a family. If you know what you're walking into, this is a place to get fantastic food, and try a good variety of things at a great price. They're having a really great deal for take out - i got several appetizers and did the sashimi platter + 4 different kinds of rolls. personally i just love sashimi and i thought the quality was pretty ok for a place that normally specializes in AYCE. the rock shrimp isn't really rock shrimp, it's more of a small fried shrimp kinda deal. i'm not the biggest fan of sushi rolls with a lot of sauce, but i really recommend to those who do. if you love thick avocado and tons go teriyaki sauce and stuff, then this is the way to go! the salmon appetizer is also covered in sauce as well. it's good, it's just not my favorite. altogether a solid choice! i hope they can open for AYCE once again soon. read more

Chaotic ordering system: They lost our order and left us sitting there for an hour without any entrees. 2. Poor service: Other guests who arrived later got two rounds of sushi while we had nothing. We called the waitress over four times, and each time she said "I will ask them," but only at the last minute did she realize they had lost our order. 3. No problem-solving: We were cold and hungry and just wanted to leave, but the waitress tried to convince us to place a new order. Instead of offering to make things right, they said they would charge us a la carte for the appetizers we ate, even though we came for all-you-can-eat and charging for a la carte would make us pay more!!! Another waitress offered us 50% off plus 10% off "next time," but who would want to come back after this? Eventually, even they moved the extra 10% discount to this visit, we still paid $13 per person, but only for a few appetizers. 4. Rude attitude: They threw our receipt and card back at us without a word or any apology. 5. Bad food: Even the appetizers were not hot. The tempura, katsu, and ramen were lukewarm and did not taste fresh at all. In summary: This was a terrible experience from start to finish. Save your time and money--go somewhere else. This place is so disorganized. How do you not number your tables? We got the AYCE menu $28.95 and the waiter must have been new had a hard time explaining what it included. We placed our order and literally a few minutes later were served with someone else's sushi order. There was all this commotion through out the restaurant.The sushi chefs started arguing in the back. I just can't make this up. They finally figured out what happened and that the new guy messed up the orders. The other waiters started circling the tables like vultures trying to figure out who got what. As the younger people say it was very "cringe" I got a few dirty looks. Yea thanks for that. I would have paced myself and just eaten the specialty rolls but it is what it is. The place looks nice and was clean. When we arrived it was busy and there were only a few tables open. It was my first time here and it will be the last. If I wanted to eat off a paper plates while consuming mass quantities of wrapped rice that is very capably hiding the spec of protein trapped inside, I could just as easily torch up my rice pot, break out the solo cups and styrofoam plates while enjoying dinner in my pajamas binging some soft core dungeons and dragons nothingness on HBO. Masa is AYCE so it is what it is but what it is ain't much. The place is clean but nothing about is is artful or for a moment remotely resembles "dinner out" ... you know... that magical 90 minutes or so when you've escaped the gravitational pull of your homeworld and journeyed to a place that was going to surprise and delight your sense of discovery and especially, your tastebuds. Here, you just just glop it on your plate and hope the Unagi and Hamachi don't taste exactly the same. A very charitable two stars. read more

My son is going college here, he has no money, so even at $27 would be a once in a while treat. He is smart and humble and understand that yes daddy has brought him uchi and masuhisa and had uni caviar oyster gold flake for $20 a pop. But that is definitely a celebration time. Dad will definitely take you here every time in town. Is the rice the best , no does it work yes. It was cooked well not as seasoned but with rolls like sunshine and dragon where you have a lot going on esepcially sauces it's perfect. Great flavors. Tuna seem to be the fresh kind. Many don't know most fish need to be frozen and come super frozen to kill all parasites and bacteria. Salmon was Scottish/Norway, excellent. What surprised me is the ramen, I think that may be one of my favorite noodle company's they get it from called sun noodle? Or yamachan? which you can get a Japanese market. Fantastic chew and pull. Currently only open for curbside pick up but I highly recommend it. We ordered a combo to go and the food was excellent. Online ordering was simple and gave all the options for each category. Pickup was at the curbside and simple. They texted me when my order was ready and when I arrived I texted them I am here and my order came right out away. Everything came out as ordered. The fish was extremely fresh and the rolls were well made. Tempura was well fried with a nice dipping sauce. If you're craving some fresh fish or sushi, this is the place to go! read more

This used to be my go-to AYCE sushi place since 2017. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was disappointing. They definitely skimp out on the cuts of their sashimi, but also on the quality of their fish. I wasn't expecting anything amazing since it is AYCE, but there was a much stronger aftertaste and strange texture to their sashimi than I remember in its earlier years. The special rolls are more pleasant to eat, but they are too heavy on the rice and all of them sort of taste the same. It was pretty difficult to get a server's attention, and they all seemed pretty confused. It's a dimly lit restaurant definitely for casual outings with friends or family.
