The ginger dressing on the house salad was the best I've ever had. I would return just for that item specifically. Spring rolls are vegetarian, came out hot and crispy. We really like the food and the people at East Sushi. I noticed the sign on the wall asking for feedback, so... please invest in some sturdy booths on the right. Yes, East Sushi is your cliche "hole in the wall, I'll spare you an attempt at being clever and will refrain from penning a haiku about it. We came here for my girlfriend's 30th birthday as her selection (a friend of hers spoke very highly of it) and she seemed to be satisfied with everything. The service from server Stephanie was attentive and thoughtful, water was refilled without asking and she even carried over the handwritten daily specials chalkboard for us to peruse. Parking is a cinch, as it's in a strip mall. The food was good, but slightly overpriced in my opinion. As with many Asian restaurants, the lunch specials are a much better value. An appetizer of 4-5 dumplings with a bite of pork inside of each, a few rolls and 2 sashimi orders (3 pieces to an order) came to $60. The quality of everything seemed fine and was a notch above the place closest to us on the south side of Bordentown. Being BYOB, we brought some nice white wine for her to imbibe while I drank a couple Heineken 0.0's. If you want a fake beer that actually passes for real when you're the DD, I highly recommend it! We didn't try dessert, the soups, or any of the soft drinks. Typically I enjoy green tea and I imagine theirs would be good, as I saw others drinking it. They also keep the place clean: one table full of unruly small children left behind a trash hurricane which was promptly attended to when they departed. It's also easy on/off 295 exit 73b, which is a plus. This isn't my favorite style of cuisine, but I'd come back to East Sushi if the occasion presented itself. read more

The sushi was truly disappointing. Actually, the whole experience was. First, I have never been to this area before so I'm probably naïve, but I could not believe a BYOB sushi restaurant. I thought I would begin with my standard, which includes a bowl of miso soup and a seaweed salad. The seaweed portion of the salad was minuscule, it sat on top of a bed of iceberg lettuce (that's a first for me) and the dressing was Incredibly bland. The miso soup was not warm, had far less tofu than any I've ever had before and was also generally lacking in flavor. Decided to play it safe and ordered a dragon roll, definitely a staple in most sushi restaurants as a " specialty." I also ordered a spider roll. Both rolls suffered from the same problem: the chef doesn't know how to make sticky rice! Every piece I picked up using chopsticks fell apart halfway to my mouth. The waitresses excuse was that "he's new." Problems same as appetizers: very little flavor. A Spider roll typically has tendrils of tempura fried crab extending from either end of the roll. Not so with this. Again, it was all very disappointing. Going to try what seems to be a fan favorite tomorrow night, but all should be warned: tonight was an epic fail. read more

East Sushi has been bookmarked and on my radar for the last few years, but I didn't get around to visiting until a few days ago. We showed up on a Friday at around 7pm (without a reservation) and they got us seated within a few minutes, even though it was fairly crowded. That was nice. The waitress showed up after a few seconds with menus and within 5 minutes we had our drinks in hand and our orders had gone in. While they have a sizable pan-Asian menu, we just got sushi for our meal. The sushi menu is very much by the numbers with combinations you've seen a million times, but what they offer is definitely done competently. We split a few rolls; spicy tuna, yellowtail jalapeño, salmon skin and the special Dynamite roll which is tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado & seaweed salad wrapped with soybean and seaweed. We really enjoyed them all and the quality was very good. I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to eat at East Sushi, but it would definitely be a pleasure if I did. Four stars overall. read more

My wife got 2 different rolls and hers was also mushy and had certain parts refrigerator cold. They could tell we didn't like our food and didn't eat much of it but did seem too concerned. I've been getting take out from east sushi for years for lunch. Normally, I would get 'steam food' (steam chicken and mix veggie with sauce on the side) and bring back to the office. During a pickup last week, I saw they are introducing Ramen as part of their special menu, it's not even on their full menu yet. I decided to come back this week and give it a try since the closest decent place around my work is at least 15 minutes away. Came here with a coworker and we both ordered the spicy ramen. My coworker also wanted some type of vegetables with the ramen. I asked our server in chinese to see if they have any Chinese veggie they can serve up. She came back from the kitchen and indicated they have Chinese broccoli. I told her that's perfect, and I would like the chef to do a quick blanching of the broccoli and sautéed it with garlic and oyster sauce. (This is not on the menu, you have to request for it) Ramen and the Chinese broccoli came out in about 10 minutes. I have to say, the ramen was above my expectations with the depth and flavor. The 'fatty pork' literally melts in your mouth, ramen was well made, the mushrooms and other vegetables balanced the soup perfectly. The broth wasn't too spicy. (I actually won't mind being a little more spicy) although the broccoli was the star today. It was crunchy with full flavor with every bite. It was perfectly cooked. I think I could've just eaten that for lunch and be satisfy. Coming here for many years for take out, the ramen definitely brings me back more often now whenever I am craving for them. I really wanted to love this place - the staff is oh so kind and generous - but sadly, the food just didn't do it for me. Our group of four thought Chinese food would be a great take out option for a cold Sunday night, but the food here left me pretty underwhelmed. I picked up wonton soup, sesame chicken and kung pao chicken (both which came with rice), and vegetarian lo mein for our group to share. After calling in my order, I was told it would be ready for pick up in just 15 minutes - wow! My boyfriend and I hurried over to grab it, and I was very surprised when I walked in. What I thought would be a little hole in the wall, was actually more spacious than I thought with a cute and comfy set up. I was immediately greeted by two very friendly staff members, who quickly handed over my bag and bill. Right before I took off, I asked them if there were fortune cookies in the bag (my sister loves them!). They responded yes, and quickly picked up on the fact that I liked them so they stuffed a handful more in the bag! :) As wonderful as the staff was, as reasonable as the prices were, and as yummy as the food looked, the taste was a let down. Although all of the food was fresh, it was quite flavorless to say the very least. I even grabbed some sauces from our kitchen to hope to add some spice and flavor to the food. Perhaps we caught them on a bad day, but it's going to take a lot for me to try this place out again. If I am to go back, I would pass on the Chinese food and try the sushi instead. read more

It's actually kinda criminal I'm just now writing a review of this place. I've been going here since I can remember I'm 21 now and my family goes here at least once a month probably more than that. I've never really had anything bad here and I have actually tried a lot of different things over the years. I'd say the weakest point on their menu is the Thai food but while it lacks some of the flavors you'd find at a strictly Thai restaurant it's still pretty tasty. 10/10 would recommend. Well they were not my first choice but it's quarantine Monday and they are open so that's a good thing. We ordered General's Chicken, pork fried dumplings and two standard rolls, $40. Hmmm rolls were $1.50-$2.00 more than average as was the General's Chicken. Let me get right to it, unless we are in a pinch or someone else is paying, we're probably not going back. I will temper that with, eh it was ok maybe even reasonably good but with issues. First of all, though tasty, the rolls were really small for the premium price and looked like they were rolled by a child, sloppy and cheep on rice. The dumplings were also ok to good, they had a nice fry pattern but oily and maybe a bit shy on filling. Then the General's chicken, sticking with the pattern, it was just good enough in flavor, surprisingly void of cartilage and maybe a plus on portion size. It was however missing any broccoli and the fry did not come off as "fresh" ; there was something off of the sauce as well, much soaking at the bottoms of my takeout dish. The good; like I said they were open, most others we checked out first were closed. Maybe the premium is due to the quarantine, so there is that. We didn't have to wait long and the food was ok. Service was good as brief as it was. My hunch is most will like and be as good as expected, but If you want to try some of the best General's chicken visit Jade Island in Bordentown or Yummy Sushi in Ewing. As for Sushi our go to is Masa 8 in Lawrenceville, Yummy has decent rolls and I was also impressed with Sushi Palace in Somerville. Enjoy, support your local, Eat well! read more

Still @ 4 Stars. Returned to try a little Sushi in the form of Salmon Skin Roll. It was well presented, tightly wrapped, and tasty. Very happy for the low salt soy sauce option on the table. Also ordered Chicken Pad Thai, and while amply plated with plenty of fresh ingredients, the taste was not what I expected from this Thai dish. Wrong spice mix to my palate. And, my pet peeve again presented itself. Although there were only 3 tables occupied in the house, we were all seated on top of each other, disturbing the tranquility of the well crafted environment. I just don't want to eavesdrop on what the next booth has ordered before as they show off for their guest, nor how many sushi roll orders should be eaten in vs. taken home to the kids. Hubby picked out this place as it was a good halfway point between our house and our friends' house. East Sushi is located in a typical NJ strip mall. Lots of parking available in the lot. Very open, modern, clean restaurant. It was pretty quiet for a Saturday night, but our server was attentive. I don't each fish, but I enjoy veggie sushi and really loved their veggie dragon roll. The other place I go to serves it with cream cheese, but I loved that they used avocado instead. I'm not sure what made it "dragon"; there was no sriracha or hot sauce, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Been in the area for 4 months and have been hesitant to try random sushi restaurants because making a sushi mistake is usually costly and un-pleasant in all regards. I met a gentleman on the golf course last week and he recommended this place. I was suspicious because they sell Chinese, Thai food, and sushi. That is usually not a good thing. However, I tried them tonight and the fish was absolutely as fresh as it could be and it was delicious. Yay. I ordered to go but next time I think I'll stay and see whats on special. I am certainly open to giving this place another try. I placed my order online and it said that my order will be ready in 15-35 minutes. I showed up after about 35 minutes and was told my order was almost done and they needed a few more minutes. I ended up waiting an hour from the time I placed my order. This alone would not be enough to get two stars but I was not impressed with the sushi. It didn't stay together and the flavor was lacking. As a starter, my friend and I ordered the Wonton soup and Hot sour soup. Both were pretty good as soups go. For a main course, we ordered the Chicken Katsu Don which tasted great. I'm used to a much thicker and eggy katsudon (which is how it is in Hawaii/Japan), but they got the flavors right! What the dish lacked in egg was made up for with a lot of sweet onions cooked and flavored perfectly!! Delicious!! My friend ordered the Thai red curry with chicken. It had a very soup-like texture, with lighter flavors than some other thai curries I've tasted. Allbeit, it was sooo good when we poured it over our rice in some bowls and scarfed it down happily! THE BEST THING about this place was our server. CAREY needs to get a raise or a promotion. Carey was VERY attentive, always made sure we were happy with our order, refilled our water and tea without us even asking, cleared our dishes immediately and brought out the next course within minutes. And all with a smile and the most polite and courteous responses. I rarely ever encouter such great service. I'd come back to East Sushi JUST to have a great food experience again with Carey! Thank you again, Carey, if you're reading this! I agree with another Yelper (Gerald) that it would be nice to be seated with some space away from other customers. Half the restaurant was open/empty, but we were sandwiched between two very chatty booths (the folks behind me, a bit loud and obnoxious...
