First time visit to Gummlai. I loved the vibe and decor of the interior. Service was great. There is a small parking lot but I had no trouble finding a spot on a Friday night. There are some larger tables for groups of 6 or more but I'd call to reserve one if you are coming with a big party. I thought that the pricing was very reasonable. I tried the pad eggplant with shrimp, chicken satay and winter shrimp. The pad eggplant had one pepper signifying it was mild, and it was label appropriately. The shrimp were fresh and the flavor was good. The chicken satay could have been grilled a little more but the peanut sauce was strong in the chicken and the dipping sauce. I liked the winter shrimp. We order take out so I can't speak on the dining experience. We order a couple of dishes -- drunken noodles, pad thai, pad see ew, and pineapple fried rice. They told us about 35-45 mins. When we went to pick up the food, the place was crowded but it looked like a cozy place. When we open the containers, the food looked like it has been sitting there for a while. It was hard and stuck to each other. I never thought you can go wrong with drunken noodles and pad thai, but I was wrong. The drunken noodles and pad see ew lacked flavor. The pad thai was overly sour even without having to use the lime they gave us. At this point, I didn't want to try pineapple fried rice anymore. I was told it didn't have much pineapples in it nor flavor. The dining experience could be better than the takeout experience since the food will be more fresh. Sadly this takeout experience does not make me want to come back to try it. read more

I came here with a group of 12 co-workers for lunch on a Monday. It wasn't very busy at all, as most Mondays are, so the ambience was quiet and relaxing even for a group of us. I was informed the thing to order for the best deal was the lunch special, which comes with a choice of soup plus appetizer with your entrée for $13.99/$14.99. I ended up ordering the coconut soup, chicken spring roll, and the beef thai basil (came with some rice). The food was pretty good and fresh and overall it was a good deal. It didn't take too long either to get the food out either. For what you get for around $15.00, the portions were good and it was a good lunch option. The store also gives an 8% discount if you pay in cash and if the order was at least $55. This was a good Thai food spot and I'd come again. read more

First off this place is BYOB although I don't see it mentioned anywhere. Everything here was fantastic, from the servers to the atmosphere. My wife started with the coconut soup, and I choose the spring rolls, and we both throughly enjoyed our appetizers. My main course was the Drunken Noodles and my wife picked the Red Curry chicken. Again, both our meals were plated nicely and tasted amazing. There were so many options on the menu that I wanted to try, so we will surely be coming back for more. This place made a mostly good first impression. For appetizers, we got the Chicken Satay which was really good. The chicken was super tender and the sauce was perfectly sweet. Ordered the Thai Iced Tea for drinks which was great. It was sweet but not overly sweet like that drink tends to be. For entrees, we got the Massaman Curry with Chicken, Beef Pad Thai, and Beef Pad See Ew. All were really good. I think the Massaman Curry was definitely the best dish out of the three we got. All of them were portioned pretty well and were tasty. Just some minor service hiccups though. We actually ordered the Shrimp Pad See Ew, we received the Beef one instead. The person who ordered it ate it halfway before bringing that fact up so we decided to just leave it as is. They did charge us for the Shrimp one in the bill but they did change it to the Beef one when we brought it to our server's attention. We needed more rice to go with the Massaman Curry as it ran out pretty quickly, they might want to consider putting more rice with their curry dishes. We also had a little trouble getting the server's attention to get more rice; even though there was only one other table seated at the time. We were looking for a thai place nearby and came across this gem. We had the curry puffs and veggie rolls for appetizers. The curry puffs were so perfectly seasoned, light and crispy. Then we had pad thai with chicken and fried rice. Both dishes were delicious. Also, loved that we could pick the level of spiciness we wanted in our dish. Our server was very attentive and nice. Our 2nd time back, super being recognized by Angie following making a good impression on our first dinning visit months back. Overall had a lovely experience. We clearly focused on trying different dishes this trip. We were shown our table upon arriving, menus and an ice bucket and water were brought right over. We discussed a few menu items ensuring they could adjust the spice levels. Spicy foods no longer agree with us, unfortunately :( but we don't want to miss out on flavor. We started with the Thai Dumplings, asked for steams vs fried crispy, each dumpling is filled with ground pork, bamboo, and black mushrooms. A nice mix, good flavor, however, we felt that mix was too tightly packed and felt heavy. We love light, delicate Thai food selections. Next, we had the crispy puff which was quite nice, light and fluffy. For our entree's my wife had the Mussaman with chicken, nice think pieces of white meat chicken with veggies in a very light, tasty broth like curry sauce. I had the Talay Tong- a mix of seafood (muscles, squid, shrimp, in a nice light flavorful sauce. The presentation was a work of plating presentation art. We have never eaten at this little place in a small strip mall, but what a pleasant surprise. On a cold and rainy December night we had a delightful dinner at a reasonable cost with good service. Week night specials include soup, appetizer and entree, the most expensive selection cost $20.99, not bad by today's standards. (I see they also have a special deal at lunchtime.) This might not be enough food if you have a really hearty appetite, but it was plenty for me. And my partner had enough room for the Mango Sticky Rice desert. Very good. read more

Love this place. It is by far the best Thai place in the area. Been going here for many years. Always friendly service, and amazing, authentic Thai food. They used to be further south on Easton Road, but now are in Willow Grove behind the Burger King. Even though the new location is a major "upgrade", for some reason I miss their older location...it was just a super cozy little place. This 12 table Thai restaurant on Easton Road, Abington, PA, is a lovely well appointed dining room, cozy enough to feel slightly enchanted, and authentic enough to leave you satisfied that you just got your money's worth of delicious northern Thai cuisine. I was there for Saturday lunch. Finding their parking lot behind the building after cruising by the storefront, I walked in to a warm smile from the owner/server, who directed me to a deuce along the wall, a discreet distance from the two occupied tables. She went to the rear cashier area and returned moments later with a glass of water and the two menus available for dinner and lunch specials. She quietly explained the two lists and left me again to give me time to consider my choices. I went with the afternoon combo - a small cup of coconut lemongrass soup (Tom Ka) veggied up with fresh mushroom on top, a bisected spring roll with dark orange dipping sauce, and a fairly large plate of Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles). Liking spicy food, I opted for the "Thai Spicy" end of the heat spectrum. It did not disappoint. It added burn sufficient to make my tongue sweat and nose run, stopping just short of numbing my gums. Certainly no compromise for this western pallette. Loved every morsel of the thick noodles, chicken, green & red pepper, onion and green beans. By the time I finished I was alone but for the pleasant owner. We talked for a few minutes about her business and our experience in Thailand. I came here around 2:00pm. The door sign said "Closed" but the hours stated that there was still an hour left. I still went in anyways just to make sure and the waitress proceeded to show me to my seats. I got the lunch special which included tum yum soup, kanoom jeeb and chicken Pad Thai. I also got the Thai tea which I was very sweet and a refreshing drink. The lunch special is definitely worth the price - the portion was definitely smaller than the dinner but it's reasonable since the price is cheaper. The waitress was very nice; she quickly took my order and and was receptive to my friend's request for vegetarian food. As well, when there was trouble with the card during payment, the waitress made sure I understood what she was doing as well as listened and answered any questions I had.
