Provo Bakery makes a vast array of items and I am of the opinion that the star rating differs per item. Their rolls? Excellent. Donuts? They're better than grocery store but just barely. I am not from Utah, but we were going to be in the Provo area for my son's birthday. After a recommendation from a friend, I decided to order a cake from Provo Bakery. It was easy to order and customize the cake using their online order form. I felt like their prices were very reasonable compared to other Provo shops. The cake was moist. The Bavarian cream, between the layers, was delicious without being too sweet, and the buttercream was real buttercream, not that nasty shortening garbage at grocery store bakeries. I ordered the 8" and it fed ~18 people. Everyone at the party loved it. 5/5 I would definitely order a cake from them again. read more

Provo Bakery. A veritable institution in Y-town. I've been coming here for (cough) years to get their famous raisin-filled cookies. They're the best I've had anywhere. A fistful of raisin cookie and a tall glass of milk is a specific nirvana for me. For those who don't appreciate raisins - I know there are hoards of you out there - PB also offers a full array of yummy treats to soothe anyone's inner Sugar Bear. On occasion I carry away bakery boxes lined with other favorites, like their orange rolls, glazed/raised donuts, and maple bars. They also tend to please the masses with their multitude of cookie selections. They make custom cookies, cakes, and pies for holidays and special occasions (Fridays are special, too!), as well as freshly-baked dinner rolls, which are absolutely delicious. All service I've ever had at PB, throughout what feels like ions of time, has been satisfactory. Sometimes it's stellar, sometimes it merely serves to get the job done. When the place is packed, don't expect over-the-top friendly service. They're there to provide you delicious delights and get you out the door to your destination, not chat with you about the score of the latest Utah/BYU game (whoop whoop!)... The tiny PB building is located on the southwest corner of 100 N and 200 E, an unexpectedly residential area of Provo. The parking lot accommodates maybe 5 cars if everyone parks like a human. Street parking is the way to go here...in and out. Pricing is very reasonable. Don't plan on going broke here, even if you splurge. When I lived in Provo I ran by it all the time but never ventured in. This is a definite instance of not judging a book by its cover or of a hidden gem. While the outside is unapologetically ugly, the inside holds glass cases of goodness. Cakes, donuts, cookies, sweet rolls. It was terribly hard for me to decide. But my entire purpose for going was for sugar cookies. I, myself, am not a huge fan of sugar cookies. Especially if they have frosting. Those heavily pink frosted cookies? Sugar nightmare. At Provo Bakery, the sugar cookies are very lightly frosted with what I would guess is a simple blend of powdered sugar, water, maybe a little milk. The cookies are crunchy and buttery. I liked them. My husband liked them. They're not to my full potential but a definite win and if you actually like sugar cookies I'd be surprised if you didn't love these ones. I also tried a maple bar, pumpkin chocolate chip cookie, and two chocolate chip cookies (What? It was the afternoon and I needed a snack!). While none were the best of my life they were all delicious and made me want to try other things. My personal most favoritest thing of all about this bakery? They make the buns for J Dawgs. Next time, I think I'll be buying some buns of my own. Oh - and one last thing. I couldn't tell you the last time I walked away from a bakery with a full box (8 sugar cookies, 2 choc chip, donut, and pumpkin choc chip) for less than ten bucks. Oh, and a drink. Although Provo Bakery has been around for decades, I honestly had never heard about it until 2010 despite living in Utah for many years. I had an orange roll cupcake from Sweet Tooth Fairy, and the girl at the counter said "Doesn't it taste like the orange rolls from Provo Bakery?" So I Google Mapped Provo Bakery and went to try their goodies. There are a lot of items I've tried at Provo Bakery. Some are pretty average bakery fare, some are out of this world. My personal favorites are the peanut butter cup with a splodge of fudge in the middle, the orange muffin tops, and the asiago cheese bagels. That quaint little brick building probably deters people quite often, but not you and me. We know better. I never tire of those decadent bran muffins. I even looked up a recipe once thinking I should just make them myself, but then I got impatient reading that recipe and just went and bought them instead. They ARE that good. I judge all my cake doughnuts by the Provo Bakery standard and am disappointed by anything else. These cake doughnuts do every other cake doughnut to shame, and it's not worth the calories to eat any other kind. That said, I'm not a huge fan of the yeast doughnuts. They're too yeasty/doughy for my tastes. Also, my favorite doughnut of all time is a maple cake dougnut, but the maple here needs work. We headed down to Provo a couple weeks ago to try a new restaurant, take some photos around town, and yes, of course, stop by Provo bakery for what are the most perfect sugar cookies known to man. They must have seen the sad puppy dog look on my face when they informed me they were out of sugar cookies, because one of the nice girls behind the counter chimed in "if you can wait 5 minutes I can go in the back and frost some for you." My friend used to work here, so I have fond memories of this place. We lived just across the street and I'd walk over at closing and help her close up (and get leftover snacks to feast on.) For some reason this place smells like death. Like. Death. It is not a good, bakery-ish smell. It is a smell of sour... oldness. It's just not good. But you can't judge a place on how it smells, and the store is very clean and well kept. Their white bread is delicious, as is their french bread. I love the peanut butter cups - they are chewy and delectable. The orange rolls are very popular, but I'm not a huge orange roll fan. Their raspberry cream cheese sugar cookies are soft and yummy, but I prefer their frosted sugar cookies. Any brownie you get is a good one, as are their lemon bars/any other bar. Yum. The muffin tops are just kind of meh. Don't recommend those. Their donuts and alligator jaws aren't very good either. If you're in the area and need a treat, stop here. I love the Provo Bakery. If you comb through my reviews, you will see that I have a thing for donut places. So it pleases me to say that the Provo Bakery has the best apple fritter I have ever had. I know that there are so many other factors that go into making a bakery great, but I have found that getting the apple fritter correct is indicative of getting so many other things correct. The fritter is massive, almost too big. Perfectly crisp and syrupy. I hate myself after finishing of the whole thing, but do it on a consistent basis. Provo bakery is my go to bakery. They make the best orange, raspberry, and cinnamon rolls. You have to get there early bcz your not guaranteed your favorites will be there later. I have Shirley's punch card and I occasionally go there but only when Provo bakery is out of the orange and cinnamon rolls. They also make loafs of white bread and wheat bread. It's absolutely delicious, They truly care about there customer. There's a elderly couple I visit and they can't have any salt so Provo bakery was kind enough to bake me a loaf of bread salt free, the little couple was ecstatic, there has also been quiet a few times were I have called early in the morning and pre paid for a box of my favorites so I'm guaranteed they will be there for me to pick up later.
