I am seriously so sad to not be giving Provo Bakery 5 stars. I fully intended on giving them a glowing review, but I had a terrible experience today! First of all, Provo Bakery is absolutely delicious. I have stopped by several times and have tried many of their doughnuts, pastries, and breads. So fresh! I like to go running in the morning and their shop is on my running route. The smells in the morning when they are baking are so good they will make your eyes roll into the back of your head. So yes, they do have yummy stuff. If their stuff is so yummy, why did I leave with such a bad taste in my mouth? I made an order with them for a very special event in my sister's life. I was very specific about what I needed. When I went to pick up my doughnuts, I found that they had used the wrong frosting color. What?? I had been very clear with what I needed. (The colors were particularly important for this event.) I expressed my concerns and while they felt bad that they got the order wrong, they didn't do much at all to make it up to me. It sounds like they have an insane policy with refunds. In the end I left with a discount because I did everything but physically enter in a discount myself to get it. The least they could do is do something, no, ANYTHING to try to make it right. It is ESSENTIAL for a place that makes baked goods for special occasions to be reliable. (What if that had been my wedding cake???) And at the very least, have some good customer service because mistakes do happen. Please Provo Bakery! We were driving through town on a road trip and decided to stop here for a dozen donuts. You guys....these donuts are next level delicious. They are soft and fresh and don't have that old fryer grease taste some donuts seem to have. The best part is that they don't gate keep the donuts: they're in a glass case where you grab your own box and help yourself to however many you would like. The gal at the register was very sweet and showed me all the different flavors of cakes and fillings they make. If their cakes are half as good as their donuts, you won't be disappointed! read more

Favorite bakery in Utah. And, none have even come close. I'm a jelly donut fan. That is, I need: 1 - a donut that tastes good on its own and 2 - jelly that varies from flavor to flavor and that you can tell that someone put effort into the filling. It doesn't have to have large chunks of the fruit in the filling, but it CANNOT be the generic u known colored filling without any evidence of fruit. Eg, u should find some seeds, at a minimum, and 3 - more than one flavor that proves #2. 4 - lots of filling, which means that you should have more filling than you know what do with. Eg, u should not bite into it and find no filling. 5 - if a jelly donut doesn't satisfy all of the above, it's not worth the carbs. And, the Provo Bakery does it very well! Frankly, I went here and there 2 other bakeries on my way back to slc and I don't know why people visit other bakeries. I can't find any that comes close in slc or almost anywhere in the country. The only donuts that comes to mind are from the Donut Hole (from FL panhandle), which has bits and pieces of the fruit flavor. I would rank those better for the filling, but that's far away. AND, in addition to the great jellies, they have a pretty unique creation in their filled croissant donuts. They're really donuts loosely formed like a croissant and filled with a sugary whipped cream (almost like a light butter cream). You have to at least try some. As mentioned above wrt the carbs, if a bakery doesn't have something unique (like these croissants) or GOOD jellies, it's a waste of time and calories/carbs. The donuts were all totally misshapen, the icing splotchy and uneven, and frankly, they didn't even taste good. At almost a dollar per donut, I would expect much higher quality in a custom order. Visited here one morning this year and got delicious donuts and other baked goods. Thought hey, that was pretty good, I'll order a wedding cake sampler to see if I'd like to order my wedding cake with them. I received 6 flavors of cake to sample for my wedding cake, including carrot cake, vanilla, lemon, lemon poppyseed?, strawberry?, confetti?? I am not kidding, I literally received these flavors along with a bunch of canned filling to try for a grand total of $25. These cake flavors were not only strange but also disgusting. Why anyone want confetti for a wedding cake is beyond me, yet there was no chocolate or anything included. Again I think the bakery is fantastic in other areas I'm just shocked how disrespectful and gross this wedding cake sampler was. Is this the best donut shop in Provo? Yes. But their inconsistency kills me. You never know what you're doing to get. Story time: I was the maid of honor/defacto wedding planner for a friends wedding, I placed an order for a 3 tier cake and was quoted a reasonable (but definitely not cheap) price in writing and paid in advance. On the day if the wedding the mother of the bride was supposed to pick up the cake and bring it to the venue in American Fork. 2 hours before the ceremony she called in tears because they wouldn't give her the cake! They said that if they had known ot was for a wedding they would never have quoted me such a low price and that we would need to pay almost triple the original quote. I ended up having to drive back to Provo to fight with them for 20 minutes before they'd give me the cake at the quoted price. I've been back several times, and most of the time I continue to be the guy who makes a cookie run. When you have friends that are addicted to their sugar cookies, you can slowly fatten them back up by making regular trips to pick up a dozen and drop them on their doorstep. I've been trying to branch out and try a few different things each time, and I can safely say that it's all been quite good and you can't go wrong when that much sugar, butter and flour get married. The sticky bran muffin is phenomenal. And there's this raspberry cream cheese thing (I'm very certain that's not its real name) that I only had once at the recommendation of the nice young girl who was running the front counter, and I need to go back and see if I can get a bathtub's worth so I can fill it up and eat my way out. I stopped by the bakery today to check out what goodies they had on offer. It was my third bakery stop of the day (and they were all different bakeries). The plain storefront does a good job at hiding the sugary goodness within. The girl behind the counter was very kind and patient as she ran through all the offerings. And oh the offerings! Doughnuts a'plenty (including maple - my fave), four types of muffins, multiple types of bran muffins, cookies, pastries, and more. The maple doughnut was outstanding, as was the honey bran muffin (reminiscent of Sweet Sue's in Long Beach, CA). The muffin was $.89 and the doughnut may have been $.99. I have three varietys of muffin-tops, two peanut butter cookies and a peanut butter cup in the freezer waiting for me. If you're in the provo area, this place is definitely worth checking out if you have a sweet tooth. They're closed Sunday's and Monday's. I will be back! read more

Yesterday I came in and ordered a 6 inch birthday cake for my daughter, who requested a pink cake. I showed a picture of what I liked from their IG account but requested that it be pink instead. I looked over the order form and it said that it should be pink in two different places. Today I came to pick up my cake and when the employee showed it to me I said, "that's a purple cake, I ordered a pink cake." The employee responded, "well, it's kind of pink." I then pointed to the order form and showed her the two places where it says "pink" and she said, "yeah the decorators must have just made what the IG post has, have a nice day!" I was not offered any options to fix the mistake or even a partial refund. I am beyond disappointed. We come into the bakery often for donuts with our kids and have had good experiences, so I had high expectations for my daughter's cake. They offered nothing in a way of a creative solution to help me as i was clearly out $20 and 20 minutes of wasting my time there and still didn't have something that said Happy Birthday on it. They said "tomorrow?' and I said "no thank you". HAPPY BIRTHDAY donuts are only really relevant today... on the day.... that concept seemed to far of a reach for them. The quality of the baked goods is excellent - I'd say 4-5 star depending on the item. Most items are old fashioned not modern/ innovative (I like both types of baked goods). So why the 3 star rating? The organization and service is really more like 2 star. They often sell out of popular items early in the morning and we've had to wait in 20 min lines only to be told they are out of everything! If you have two items left have someone go out every 5 minutes and announce that or put a sign up when you have a long line. That's showing respect for your customers and their time. read more

I'm only giving 3 stars for the fact that I've order donuts from them before and they were great the first time. This time I ordered a dozen variety of donuts and when I brought them home I opened the box to see that they had packaged them horribly. They had placed all of the soft frostings at the bottom and the ones with hard or no frosting at the top!! By the time I picked the ones on top off the ones at the bottom had almost no frosting and two were completely ruined. The ones from the top while still intact had chunks of donuts all over them. I have been eating Provo bakery doughnuts since the early 90's. I always regarded these donuts as the best. One of our Halloween traditions is donuts. This Halloween I was not too thrilled that a dozen assorted donuts and 16 or 18 donut holes was $18+. Really. I've had it. I'm done. Lots of people make donuts. Many are not too great but a number are. Days makes a fine donut and they are almost half as much. One of Provo Bakery's shortcomings is that sometime their doughnuts are undercooked. I have decided Dunford makes a superior donut and they are cooked perfectly EVERY time and they are cheaper. Paying a premium for a premium product is understandable.
