Kitchen & Market - Purchased a roast beef sandwich and their pomodoro sauce. Received a card for a free chicken breast with a future $25 purchase (3/24/24)

They had everything I would expect at a grocery store, but much more curated, which makes shopping easier. It really takes the cognitive load off to not have to compare seventeen different brands/sizes/prices. They had a nice selection of meal kits (four person dinner for ~$65, and 2 person meals for ~$45), cheeses, frozen goodies (ice cream, Hello Robbin cookies, chicken pot pie), and produce. I probably wouldn't do a regular full grocery shopping here for my whole family, but I can see myself stopping by for last minute ingredients, goodies for gatherings and picnics, and meals to go. I had the in-house tiramisu and it was absolutely divine, and I am excited to check out some of their other in-house products!

The Kitchen & Market - Madison Valley location is located between Bar Cantinetta and Cafe Flora. It has a limited parking lot and adjacent street parking. I briefly toured the retail shop glancing at all the displays, but exercising restraint. This is truly a high quality, grab and go, treat yourself (+family & friends) neighborhood bodega. I wanted to also compare this site with my visit & experience at the Pike Place Market location. I stopped by the showcase table to sample and savor the meatball, parmesan crisp, and chocolate chip cookie samples provided by a very personable individual. I ended up buying a tub of their pomodoro sauce (same sauce used with meatball sample) and a roast beef sandwich. The latter was savored down by Lake Washington at the Madison Park Beach. Delicious sandwich, would have been perfection if one bread slice was not soggy due to the contents. But the wrapper helped and had napkins in my car. Pomodoro sauce was used with premium al dente radiatore pasta. This yielded a flavorful dish for dinner. I like the concept for pret a porter/meal kit ideas. Price point not for every budget though, however, one is paying for high quality and well curated items. Current sites are located at Seattle's Pike Place Market, Mercer Island (will return after fire damage renovation), Bellevue/Medina, and this new Seattle/Madison Valley site. Future locations will be in Yarrow Bay/Kirkland and Seattle/Eastlake. Minus one star due to soggy bread, challenging parking situation, and ignored twice waiting to pay at the register. Note: Card payment at the register area, no cash accepted.

The udon were really good but if you let them sit for a long time they get a bit soggy and lose their texture, mainly a concern if you eat really slow though. Broth was also great, just a tiny bit of spice really added to it Overall I'd definitely come back here!

My girlfriend and I stopped in before a flight, which in hindsight was a mistake. We ordered around 12:30 PM (niku beef udon, garlic pork udon, and chicken karaage), and it took nearly an hour to receive everything. The karaage came out first after about 40 minutes, then one udon about 10 minutes later, and the final dish close to an hour after ordering. Because of this, we weren't able to eat together unless one of us let our food go cold. On top of that, the restaurant itself was uncomfortably cold, which made the long wait feel even worse. It also seemed like many other tables were experiencing similar issues--orders coming out at different times or missing entirely, with customers having to repeatedly follow up. What stood out most was the lack of communication. There was no acknowledgment of the delays, no check-ins, and no apology--not when the food was dropped off, and not even when we left. Given that we had to pay upfront and the price point was $20+ per bowl, it made the experience feel even more disappointing. While the portions were decent and the noodles seemed handmade, the food itself didn't feel particularly special to justify the wait or cost. I truly hope this feedback is helpful. With better timing, communication, and overall service, I think the experience could be much better.

Certainly not meat, but I can guarantee that you will be satiated by the creativity and flavor of the meat-adjacent dishes. The Portabello Wellington is a whimsical twist on the classic Gordon Ramsey specialty. I like to think that he would appreciate the artistic liberties that have been used here, instead of berating the chef. It's almost like a highly elevated hot pocket on a bed of fluffy mashed potatoes. Would order again. The savory waffle was the most intriguing dish by far. They heavily leaned into taking this as far away from any aspect of sweetness as possible by layering in herbs, butter, and a fantastic crema to go with those crispy boi fritters. But the most fantastic dish by far isn't shown below. It's the coconut cake. An absolute must order if you come to Cafe Flora. This cake is the epitome of decadence, and each bite will have you wondering if it's the best slice of cake you've had in your life. Eating this masterpiece is a life experience itself, and can't be compared to other foods. I imagine it's similar to how people feel after looking at their first born child. I implore my fellow carnivores to walk through the doors of Cafe Flora with an open mind. Prepare your palate for an evening without meat, but for a culinary journey that is full of surprises.
