We had a deeply disappointing experience with Jesse and Proud Paws. During our initial consultation, we explained our specific situation: a young puppy in a home with a 2-year-old toddler, and a desire to build good habits early before problems could develop. Jesse assured us that she had experience with this kind of dynamic. She strongly encouraged us to sign up for her "Puppy Rockstar" package which is eight sessions for $1,360. She came across as personable, confident, and knowledgeable, so we trusted her and paid in full upfront (though this was optional). Despite carefully following the program (including more than triple the 10 min minimum daily training time she advised) our puppy's behavior deteriorated. After three sessions, it was clear her training methods (which relied entirely on treat-based reward and offered no alternate tools or structure) weren't effective for our situation. We made the hard decision to go with a more intensive program elsewhere. When we contacted Jesse to explain our situation and request a prorated refund for the five unused sessions, she refused, citing a strict "no refunds" clause in her paper work packet. Her only offer was to put our remaining sessions on hold and extend their expiration, even though we made clear that we had already moved to other training out of necessity. It is important to note that the contract also included a clause discouraging us from working with or even taking advice from any other trainer during the program. In our view, this kind of exclusivity, especially in a situation involving a toddler and a rapidly escalating behavioral issue, was unreasonable and not in the best interest of our family or the puppy. Ultimately, we had to prioritize safety and act against the restriction as quickly as possible, even though we initially agreed in good faith. I made this clear to Jesse and offered a fair compromise, in my opinion, of allowing her to retain payment for an additional unused session as a gesture of goodwill. She declined. I voiced my frustration and, frankly, shock at her stance. When I told her I would be leaving a review of our experience, she said that doing so was "threatening her business." I clarified that we were sharing our honest experience so others could make informed choices. My wife and I don't see it that way-we believe sharing an honest account is important for other families deciding who to welcome into their homes with training. Her communication about resolving these issues reflects a rigid and transactional mindset rather than a client-focused one. That was particularly disappointing given how kind and understanding she initially seemed. I strongly advise others to approach with caution: If you choose to work with Proud Paws, I recommend avoiding prepayment, requesting a copy of any contract, and understanding there may be little room to adapt if things don't go as expected. I much rather spread positive news with people and typically have much better luck on yelp finding the right providers. As an update: our puppy has been with a new trainer for just one week, and the change has been dramatic. She's calmer, better behaved, and able to interact positively with our toddler. Sooooo disappointed. Chose Proud Paws based on it's 5-star rating here but I couldn't be more let down. Bought a 9-pack after the consultation (which was the only choice offered to me, I'm not sure where others got a 6-pack from, I would have much preferred) and white-knuckled it through 4 sessions (consultation included in that count) before I had to walk away. I found Jesse to be harsh, condescending, snippy and completely judgmental. From telling me I feed my dog "shelter food" to snide remarks about my dog collar choice to actually YELLING at me on what was to be our very last session for forgetting a part of her door "technique" (which is ironic coming from someone who preaches never to say "no" to your dog and certainly never to raise your voice at it) - it was a bad experience from start to finish. The only thing my dog learned was how to bark more and listen less. When I contacted her to let her know I would be walking away and requested a refund, she apologized and offered me an additional session on the house (I didn't even want the 5 remaining I had, why add one more?) but stuck to her no-refund policy, which obviously seemed extremely unfair considering. His play bitting was getting out of control and we were getting close to giving up on him. But Jessica came and took care of business. Im so happy I found Jessie! When I moved to North Hollywood last summer, my year-old miniature dachshunds became fearful of new people, especially in our apartment. They had always been sweet pups, but I worried that this new fear would eventually turn into aggression. The first time Jessie came to our apartment, my dogs barked incessantly for the first hour. They were willing to work for treats, but if Jessie made any sudden movements or raised her voice to a normal volume, the barking started again. Jessica was phenomenal in training our 2 girls for air travel. Because of Jessica's skills and patience, they quickly learned to get comfortable in their respective carrying cases. Where do I begin! We first met Jessie when we enrolled ourselves for some dog training at the Pasadena Humane Society. From the first class that we had with her we absolutely LOVED her. There is something about her that dogs just respond to, with a class FULL of puppies she would command the attention of all the pups. Her teaching method is based on positive reinforcement and teaching your dog to make the right decisions on their own. While we loved all the classes we had at The Humane Society we knew we needed some extra attention for our Chocolate Labrador Retriever puppy. We have worked a lot with her at our apartment and refined the skills that we learned in classes and also worked on some of our behavioral issues. Jessie has not only taught us how to train our pup Bodhi she has also made us very in tune with his body language as well as ours. We are constantly getting praise on how "well behaved" our dog is for being so young. Little do they know all the training that was required for him to be the way he is now and that is ALL thanks to Jessie.
