It's slim pickins for good eatin' out here in La-fa-yette (say it with a Southern accent) and Proto's certainly shines as a yummy little nugget for those of us who can't always make it to the "Big City". Such a creature of habit, I always, ALWAYS order the Proto Pie (Italian sausage, and Marinara), because I simply heart Italian sausage. This last time, I branched out and ordered, brace yourselves, people, a pesto pie with... Italian sausage. And it was equally as dee-licious. Okay, my loyalty, still lies with Marco's for wood-fired zaa, but Proto's does step up. Crispy-thin crust, fresh and tasty ingredients, and prompt, enthsiastic service. Love, love, love the "Clam Night Fridays" where you can get white or red clam zaa, which I have sampled in spite of my lame creature-of-habit adoration of Italian sausage. They also have yummy salad specials which differ nightly. Truly, I have never had a bad meal here. Bonus? The price! My little girlie and I shared a large zaa and sodas for a whopping $22.00- woo hoo! On top of everything else fabulous about our little neighborhood joint, the bar is super chill- ta-ta tasty Martinis if you so choose, intelligent wine list, and attractive, hip servers to boot. The absolutely worse pizza I've ever had!!! Just ordered about an hour ago for pick up. Sauce was nasty cheese was nasty. The crust was like nasty baby powder crackers. So... I don't get why people pay &25 bucks for almost no food. Yeah I too like thin crust but please!!!!!!!! How about some topping! These guys aware making a killing on nothing. Worst pizza I have ever had, ordered the Atomica with Mozzarella, tomato sauce, garlic, oregano, then sprinkled with crushed red pepper, black olives, and topped with Italian sausage, and asked to add pepperoni. It was under cooked, no flavor of garlic, oregano and crushed pepper, did not have but one olive cut up, extremely sparse mozzarella, each slice had only one piece of sausage and one piece of pepperoni. Very disappointed to say the least for over $20, emailed the Gunbarrel shop and they never even replied. Do not recommend. read more

First time going to this place. I was in the mood for wood fired pizza. So it was close by. Ordered the magherita . . added sausage and mushrooms. I was expecting a thin crust, but not a cracker thin crust. And sure enough here it comes after a long wait. The coffee was luke warm, and the darn crust is just a big cracker with toppings. That's IT. . . THAT"S NOT was what I was expecting. I've had neopolitan pizza and it was never a cracker with toppings. And the taste was just OK. Not what a real neopolitan pizza is. And they had only one kind of crust. Will not be back. rather lousy pizza. read more

Love the pizza. The price is a bit steep for the amount of food you get, but the flavors are terrific and the pizza is always cooked very consistently. Never burned. My personal favorite is the basic Margarita pizza. read more

After I moved to the area I was looking for a good pizza. Proto's is good pizza, I like the crispy flat crust and the fresh ingredients. I pretty much always get the low rider, which is awesome. What has kept me coming back most Sundays is the very friendly bartender. I forget her name, but she is pretty much the friendliest person that I have ever met. My family decided to eat at Proto's Pizza in Lafayette for our weekly dinner visit with my step kiddo during her week with her mom. My husband and I were leaving for Mexico the next day and had to have my step kid back by 7 pm so we were in a bit of a rush. My husband got there first and order and told the waiter we needed things fast. I arrived about 15 minutes later. There was one other family in the restaurant. We ordered 3 gluten free pizzas and a salad for the table. The salad came out about 10 minutes after I had gotten there and then we sat and sat. With no one in the restaurant we thought it would be fairly quick. We had to ask the waiter what was taking so long and she said she would talk to the kitchen, who we could see chatting and socializing with the hostess and other staff in the front. Finally, about 30-40 minutes later the pizza came. We had to tell my step kid's mom that she would be home late by this time, which was annoying since we had originally had plenty of time to eat. The pizza was fine, but nothing special and the crust was kind of dry. We ate and then asked for the bill which was over $80 without the tip. With two adults and one kid we had about half of a small gluten free pizza left (about two slices). Since my husband had been a rush when we arrived he hadn't asked if there was an up charge for the gluten free option. I am not sure if they had an option to buy a large gluten free pizza for the table and if this might have been more economical, but at 17-20 bucks a pop on the gluten free pizza I would think we would either have more leftovers or a more amazing experience and I wished we had chosen a different place to eat. I don't think we will return. (To be fair we are gluten free and trying to eat at a pizza place, which I am sure gluten free is not their specialty. I just wish the waitress had let us know when we ordered the up charge for the gluten free option was so significant.) read more

Ate here last Saturday. Ordered the Traffic Jam Pizza, not very good. The crust was awful and when I popped a cheese bubble on top of the pizza (which is what you get when you cook a store bought pizza at home) under it was dry crust, meaning not a lot of cheese. I will not eat here again, there's better pizza out there. read more

Protos is great. It carries a bit of a yuppie vibe which can often mean a bigger price tag, but the ingredients and style aren't what you'd find around this area of the Colorado 'burbs. Whether you want to load up a pizza with a ton of toppings, enjoy a fresh salad, or eat alternative styles of food - it's great. I am trying to avoid meat and cheese, so I got a salad but the pizza my friends were eating looked and smelled amazing - as did the pizza I have always had here before. read more
