Prospect Park--Brooklyn's greatest green space. Within walking distance of multiple neighborhoods, and pretty easy to get to by public transportation. The park looks beautiful in any season, but I will admit fall is my favorite, when the leaves change. The park is massive and contains lakes, picnic areas, a boat house, and more--a skating rink was recently added. In the warmer months it becomes everyone's backyard, and after the first snow everyone is sledding or building a snowman. The park also hosts concerts in the summertime, and events through out the year. It's hard to find space anymore in this city, so don't take the park for granted. read more

When I was a wee one, I practically lived in Prospect Park, running, skipping, and doing miscellaneous childhood activities there. Upon entering puberty where my mindset turned toward "da ladies", I abandoned the park. Fast forward twenty years and the prodigal son has returned. After two hilariously fun filled outtings of two-hand touch on the "lawn", the magical feeling of being out of the city while being in the city came flooding back. What is it about hills, acres of green grass, open skies, that makes us breathe deeply and relax? I don't know, but Prospect Park has it in spades. Natural perfection. read more

I love this park! It was so relaxing to take a stroll through some of of the park. Plus, Prospect Park is a great alternative to the crowded Central Park. It seems more family friendly. read more

Prospect Park was one of the main reasons I was attracted to Park Slope. I used to trek there from Sunset Park for off-leash hours and to play soccer. Now, I live half a block away and it's totally worth it. Off-leash hours for dogs is probably my favorite thing. Aside from that, it's like Central Park without the crowds. You can always find a large area to get any type of game going, or any tree to have a picnic under. It's big and quiet and beautiful and it's a nice escape from the city. read more

Oh my gawd...it's a park! Allow me to wax poetic... Roses are red Violets are blue (although, aren't they really violet? just saying) This park has grass, trees, a lake and hills read more

Oh how I love thee, let me count the ways. Okay, so in all honesty I love most parks... forests or natural places but since this is my local big park it deserves a review. I love that I can ride my bike as fast as I can around the loop without worry of being smacked into by a car... although being so close to Park Slope you might be smacked into by someone's rogue child so look out for those. I love the grassy knoll outside the band shell where you can listen to the awesome bands for free and have a drunken picnic... or even a cookout I love that I can technically walk here from my apartment if the bus never comes... because in ft. greene the bus really never comes- at least not when you want it to. I love that I can pull over for a game of frisbee or wiffle ball after my bike ride and the guy with the icee cart will deliver your coconut icee right to you while you lounge on the big green lawn And last but not least, I love that the park is nice and big so there is a lot to do and explore here read more

i love that even though it was 80 degrees and we got there at what you would expect to be the busiest time, we still were able to set up a grill and lay out some blankets with plenty of space. on top of that, people werent noisy or obnoxious.. everyone was just chilling and having fun. there are nice bike and walking paths that arent overcrowded like others in the city. the only issue was the walk from the car. there are no roads into the park so we had to carry a grill, cooler and food up and back. no biggie, just a little annoying. i can see myself here alot over the next few months! read more

Unbelievably gorgeous park. This is easily the best public park in the 5 boroughs. It's great to wander through, to have a picnic, to bring a book and read, or to watch some little league games during the summer. If you want quiet/privacy then you can certainly find a quiet place to read. I can't recommend this park enough. It's really close to the Brooklyn Museum and the Brooklyn Botanical Garden as well...both are outstanding. read more

One of the main reasons I live in Brooklyn. The park is beautiful and a pleasant centerpiece for Park Slope/Prospect Heights residents. I can't wait till it gets warm out so I can fully enjoy it here. read more

We took a walk once with the whole family (lots of little whiny kids) and it was a nightmare. but usually, if you don't get too deep into the park it can be a wonderful place. there are lots of kiddie parks, alot of places to bike-ride... just don't step into doggie doodoo. and too many of the trees are "autographed". otherwise, a lovely place to grow up in. (and if you wanna pay a bit go to the Prospect park zoo, or across the street botanic gardens or the merrigoround or the museum *catching breath*) read more

If you happen to be a fan of Olmstead and Vaux-designed public parks, well this one you gotta see.

Prospect Park is my favorite park in all of NYC. It really quite and very peaceful and never anywhere near as crowed as Central Park or Flushing Meadows Park. Its really green and clean and my dog love run is the clearings and meet all the other dogs. read more

We use the park all year round. I love taking out of town guests on the guided boat tour of Prospect Lake. I've dropped pounds and inches powerwalking around the East and West Drives. We watch fireworks on News Years Eve from inside the park, and Montgomery Clift is buried there! But the best part about Prospect Park is all the free musical and dance performances. We feel blessed to live across the street from such a wonderful place. read more

LOVE IT! Would not know how I would survive without it. I live close by, and ride my bicycle in Prospect Park as often as I can. read more

After living in London and experiencing the amazing parks there, this place pales in comparison. It seems to be the best we can hope for here in Brooklyn, though. There are parts of this park that are absolutely BEAUTIFUL. You can get into nature and feel like you are not in the dusty gray city for a while. But there is also another side to this park - a shady element cursing and blasting music, rough kids and their drunk parents (yes, drinking in public on a playground while their older kids terrorize on the baby equipment) ruining the extremely overcrowded playgrounds, little security, lots of people looking for the same escape, the public restrooms are atrocious and vomit-worthy.... Also, the lake is beautiful with its giant gazebo, but don't go inside unless you like the aroma of piss, because this place reeks of it. Picturesque if you can hold your breath long enough to get some pictures. Foul. Finding parking is usually a problem as well. If you want a better experience, pay the $10 and go to the Botanical Gardens. Now THAT is gorgeous. read more

Until maybe ten years ago, this park was great. I'd wake up early, well before work, head out to the Long Meadow, and be alone with my thoughts, a bagel, and a caffeinated beverage. It was a beautiful and peaceful way to start the day. And then.... And then the crazy dog people kept applying pressure and got off leash hours on the Long Meadow before 9am. My little slice of peace and quiet was destroyed by a barking, howling, drooling, crotch ramming, nightmarish hell. Dog owners are some of the most selfish people in the world, and their hobby has turned what was a five star park into a two star park. The only saving grace is that at other hours and in other places one need not fear having ones peaceful thoughts interrupted by a canine nightmare. My only other complaint is the presence of insanely loud sound systems for running events. Seriously, the folks who run these things blast crappy pop music at a volume that makes hearing somebody talking within a hundred yards of the speakers impossible. Seriously, if these runners needed music, they'd wear headphones like everybody else. read more

I never knew there were so many good things to do in prospect park until I took my friends kids there this past summer. I believe I enjoyed it more then them. I lived in Brooklyn for Twenty years and never knew there were so many things to do here. I think It's great what this park offers for children. read more

I absolutely love this park! I am not a native Brooklyn person but moved here from Rockaway beach 3 years ago and never knew much about Prospect Park. One Saturday my wife and I decide to take a drive over to Park Slope. We fell in love with the area with all the amazing brownstones and beautiful shops and restaurants. Anyways we walked a few blocks and came across Grand Army Plaza and the Saturday farmer's market. Well now three years later its a place we now visit at least once a month and weekly in the spring and summer. From the aforementioned farmer's market to the huge lawn of Brooklyn with bbq pits, volleyball, softball and just miles of places on the lawn to lay down and enjoy some people watching, Prospect Park is a hidden gem to people that know about it and a pleasure for new people to come across. read more

Great place in the summer to picnic, play, and visit the farmers market. Right by an ornate library and great people watching.

Need it be said? What a gorgeous park to have in the middle of Brooklyn. I usually go to the Long Meadow to lie on the grass and look at the clouds, contemplating my navel. My cousin's beautiful wedding was at the Boat House overlooking a serene lake peppered with swans and ducks. I've seen the NY Philharmonic in a field of some sort. I've wandered aimlessly through the park trying to find the other end, and have been perfectly content to just enjoy the leaves and trees. read more

Besides the zoo, skating rink, lake, sports fields, dog run, a little bit of relative wilderness to wander, and probably a lot more I'm forgetting, there is one very important thing. It's winter right now, and that means you can go sledding in the park. read more

Wow, I can't believe I never blogged about this great place called Prospect Park, Brooklyn's own emerald garden. This park holds so many memories, from me playing in a little league baseball team with the 78 Precinct, to various bbq's, and several family reunions. This place is where I learned to ride a bike, jogged, saw free concerts at the Bandshell, enjoyed the sounds of the drummers from the Drummers Grove,Paddle Boat dates in Lake Prospect. This park might not be as big as other city parks, (such as Central Park, Van Cortland in the BX, and Flushing Meadows in Queens), but it sure is the most beautiful and romantic park in NYC. I'm very lucky to still live in Park Slope, because this park to this day serves as my personal backyard. read more

Prospect Park is a beautifully designed and well maintained park. And if you go there in the early morning, it is quite peaceful. Unfortunately due to the city's budget cuts, weekend evenings can be a different experience due to the lack of rules enforcement. Still it is a park that for the most part is diverse and full of things to do. I don't currently own a dog, but if I did, I would rank it one of the best places to run my dog before 9 AM. read more

OK, so sometimes I complain about NYC and all of the noise, grime, grittiness, brusqueness and otherwise general insanity that IS this city...but luckily for me, there is Prospect Park. Yes, sometimes I get bored from going to the same park, day in, day out, but overall, it's a pretty great park. It's less crowded than Central Park (though not to say it isn't SUPER crowded in the warmer months), and the trails are my favorite part. Sometimes it's not hard to imagine that I'm not even in the city, but in the woods somewhere far, far away. The other day I swear I saw a falcon! Super cool! I just returned from there on this snowy February day, and I feel completely renewed and rejuvenated. I am lucky enough to live about a block away, and it is one of my saving graces. read more

I'm reviewing Prospect Park from an "outside" perspective, in the hopes that those who do not live in NYC may go off the beaten path and see what else the city has to offer besides the tourist traps. Keep in mind I am a bit biased. I grew up, and once again live, in one of the most dry places in the country. There are only 2 or 3 species of trees in my entire city that existed before settlers arrived in the late 19th century. We do not lack in park space, but compared to the east coast the city landscape is extremely sparse. So during my somewhat brief, but exhilarating time in Brooklyn, this park was a sense of wonder for me. The fact you could get lost in a park, truly block out the world in the middle of the city was amazing. Unlike Central Park, where tourists abound, Prospect Park is a local paradise as far as parks go. I cannot comment on some of the aspects other reviewers have...the bandstand or picnic accommodations, but for those who want a quiet* place to people watch, bike, or just stroll until you forget the city for awhile, I can't think of a better place in NY. *"Quiet" may include the occasional fly over plane landing approach to LaGuardia read more

This park is great. It is not very loud because it is usually not as crowded as Central Park. There are plenty of tables and benches where you can relax, have a snack. Relax on the grass and enjoy the sunshine. The lake is at the southern end of the park. Very nice lake. The Brooklyn botanical garden and the Brooklyn Museum are at the northeast corner of the park. The zoo is on the eastern side. This park has all kinds of attractions surrounding it. Transportation is simple. (F) at 15th Street on the west, (2)(3) at Grand Army Plaza on the north end, (2)(3) at Eastern Parkway-Brooklyn Museum on the northeast, (B)(Q) at Prospect Park on the east and (Q) at Parkside Avenue on the southeast corner. read more

I live across the street from the park and it's one of the best things about my apartment. It's an excellent place to walk your dog--you could take them off-leash before 9am and after 9pm. Having said that, I walk my dog off-leash around 6pm everyday (along with most other dog owners) and I've never herd of anyone getting in trouble for it. All around great place for literally everyone!1 read more

You really can't beat it. I live a few blocks away in Crown Heights and my wife and I come here weekly for walk and to enjoy nature.

Prospect Park has enough space you can watch a concert (formal or informal), cookout in the built-in grills, sunbathe, or play frisbee.

the park is a nice place to release all your stress and worries. I go here all the time just to walk at nice wonderful trail. this park is perfect if you want to take a stroll, have picnics , biking, running and all the outdoor activities I go here all the time before work and its just lovely. also I see lots to chipmunks read more

I'm almost tempted to say this place is better than Central Park. Its beauty lies in the fact that it is not quite as landscaped as its cousin in Manhattan. Replete with walkways, bridges, people playing all sorts of sports, and its biggest attraction - a dog beach. A great way to spend an evening by walking across the park to get dinner in Prospect Heights or Park Slope. read more

Great, shady running trail around the perimeter of the park and a bonus for closing off the streets on the weekend.

There is no place better to spend a sunny day in Brooklyn. Don't miss the network of nature trails on the East side of the park.

Love an early run in the park .. Kept very nice and so many hidden little spots that I always love discovering.. I just wish it had better directions and signs to make it easier to navigate through the park . read more

May be the most beautiful park of New York! Awesome! Every time I go I discover something new! If you go to Brooklyn you have to go there!

An undiscovered gem? Yet it is packed with people. I had heard about this park over the years, but never visited until last weekend. It is one of new york's best kept popular secrets! read more

This actually feels like a park. Not your all-eyes-on-me, tourists galore, candy offers - horse cart offers - etc., idealized piece of green in the midst of Manhattan. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Central Park, but Prospect Park just feels more like a *park* - modest, tall green trees and grass, where you can just take walks or peacefully chill or barbeque or play badminton or anything really. ^^ read more

If you live in Brooklyn and you don't want to travel too far for cycling, this is the best park for some endurance exercise. I am here giving an honest cycling review. This park is good for everything. Family, running, jogging, biking, biking with their kids, biking with your friends, and you name it. Here is my bike review. I am an avid cycling who is into endurance and competitive cycling. I have been to Central Park and I didn't like it too much, plus it is a bit far and I often get lost in the park. I go to Prospect park probably few times a week. 7-10 laps each time. There is mostly flat road, one short uphill, and one short downhill. I love seeing people riding their bikes with their little kid behind them. I hope I can do that in the future. All in all, this park is highly recommended in the morning hours. There are more people during 7am to 11am. Love it. read more
