This place is fun year round. A great way to spend an afternoon. Highly recommend! Check the local websites for updates. Really, when considering a park to spend time in this park rates up there in accessibly and the number of activities it is up there with Central Park. read more

What's not to love about Prospect Park? I grew up a block away and spent endless hours playing softball, going jogging, and having family parties here. Now that I'm back in Brooklyn I'm so happy to be able to enjoy its greenery and free events once more. read more

DAMN the last uphill on the bike track is brutal. Who needs a gym membership?

I never do the sit on the grass or bring your dog to the park thing, so I don't know how fun that is, but I'm always doing late night rides in the park. Prospect Park has a great circuit for novice and experienced cyclists alike. All of the other cyclists I have encountered in the park are very friendly and I enjoy the camaraderie. There are a few rough spots on the road around the south side of the park that you should look out for, but overall this place is great! read more

Someone told me Olmsted and Vaux considered Central Park a warm-up for Prospect Park.

Love this park! For all my activities this is the park to be at! It has everything inside and in its surrounding! Picnics.. Games.. BBQ..kid rides.. Running.. Or just walking around.. With a flower garden on one end.. Movie theatre on the other. There isn't much that you can say you couldn't do at this park that u can at another. Go check it out! You'll be glad you did! read more

I ran through here for the Brooklyn RnR 10K, and it's a beautiful park! Close to a subway stop, and great for running.

walked in from the entrance near the brooklyn public library. the circular avenue designs reminded me of a european setting. came across several big grass fields where people could set up a BBQ, lounge around the field, set their children roaming free, and interact with a little bit of nature. came about the lake and through one of the nature walks along the waters, there were a couple of cute sitting benches. a great date for those that dare venture out in the wide open clear-skied parks during day-time with minimum make-up and possible sweat spots. came out in a completely different neighborhood in brooklyn, very cool nevertheless. come for a stroll, relax from the hustle and bustle of the city life. bring a book, a loved one, maybe some snacks. it will make the week, or even month! will i revisit? definitely. read more

Such an amaaazing park, would have absolutely loved to get a long run in here but unfortunately came here during the heat wave and didn't want to risk it. read more

Oh Brooklyn, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways ... first, Prospect Park. Frederick Law Olmsted was an artist, and this place is his true masterpiece. Every bit as sublime as Central Park but with about 1/10 the people. Beautiful forests and meadows, you feel like you're in an English garden presented as a gift to what was New York's great working class borough. read more

There's a reason the creators of this park prefer it to their design of Central Park: it really is a better park. It doesn't hurt that Brooklyn's park laws are much more conducive to, well, treating the place like it's a public space and doing public-y things there (like barbecuing, among other things). And I must admit I get very excited when I am there on a Saturday morning to witness the insanity of dogs enjoying those few daylight off-leash hours. read more

LOVE this park! So much fun. All different groups of people and activities!

Best park in Brooklyn - of course since its the biggest and has Prospect Zoo inside! Also across street from Brooklyn Museum and Brooklyn Botancial Gardens. There are alot of free events here, so check it out. Gorgeous grounds - You will feel like you stepped inside a haven and away from the city! Great for picnics, throwing the ball around, bringing your dogs & the whole family too. Never have too much trouble finding parking around the vicinity of the park either. So just GO! read more

I like Prospect Park. I do find it interesting people put this in the same category as Central Park because in actuality it's nothing like it aside from the fact that it's a park. Don't get me wrong Prospect is nice, I like living nearby and walking and jog through there. I like that a lot of things are connected or in immediate proximity to the park- the zoo, botanical gardens, the library. This park is very well kept and since I've lived here has been doing renovations to the south-east side. It should be really nice once it's done. This is a really good park to run and bike in. The trail is along the outside border and really nice. read more

Great park!!! So many trails, open spaces, playgrounds. Great ring road for biking and running but challenging with hills and bends and curves. Playgrounds for all ages and lots of open space for picnics and BBQ. Be on the lookout for the waterfall trail, it's really a sight. Also bring your dog before 9am for off leash time. read more

Basically its a Central Park with space to throw a frisbee/ball/etc. and you can barbeque! I can't imagine going to a park now without the aforementioned. read more

The best park in NY. Hands down. I love this park. I have good memories of romantic strolls and picnics here. So peaceful and serene.

Outstanding to be in a place in the big apple wherein my pockets can live in my pocket. And on this first-rate park, subsequent to a descent museum and the Brooklyn library. nicely worth a detour and a day. read more

I absolutely love the park. The colors as the leaves change are breathtaking. I really enjoy walking the park when it's warm. There are lots of hills to keep you challenged. I've gone to picnics and watched great soccer games here as well. It's great to know you don't have to travel all the way into the city for a park with such beauty! read more

This is a magical place. A lovely escape from the hustle and bustle of the big city. I foresee many more visits here before summers through... read more

I am not of the school that it is necessarily "better" than Central Park, but certainly at least as pleasant. Bike, hike, or float your way through this Olmstedian landscape, dodging Park Slope spandex or Leffertsian barbecues. read more

A local friend took us for a stroll through Prospect Park, and I'm so glad he did. It has a much less structured feel than Central Park, really helping us to break out of the "grid mentality" of hard edges and square city blocks. We enjoyed a leisurely stroll and felt like we were miles from the bustle, even though it's right in the middle of Brooklyn. The expansive lawn and all the trees (which were turning color during our visit) were just what we needed after a few days of Manhattan-centered touring. It's now definitely one of my favorite parks to visit. read more

This is a wonderful park with lots of grassy hills, trees, ponds, grills, gatherings, sporting events, cultural festivals, you name it! Tons of paths for walking, jogging, rollerblading, skateboarding, and biking galore. Even paths for horseback riding! There are always tons of people of all ages here, especially on the weekends. Rivals my love for Piedmont Park in Atlanta! read more

Bring your camera. This park is amazing when it's covered in snow! This is amazing Park in the heart of Prospect Park. It's great to chill out and relax with friends. I can't wait till it's Summer over here. read more

I LOVE this park...its second in my heart next to Central Park (only b/c CP is bigger). I grew up coming to this park all the time for school trips, go here for the annual MJ remembrance and other cultural arts events, stop by to support the food trucks and my tummy, and to chillax in the park for a quick R&R session. read more

Central Park...? B#tch please! Prospect Park is brought to you by the same people who brought you Central Park but without all the annoying crowds of tourists. Best place for a short run in Brooklyn hands down! Beware the rabid cyclists though, they are jealous of the runners who can move without the aid of wheels. Prospect Park also lacks those sad looking horse and buggies that traverse Central Park (that's a plus people, slimmer chance of stepping in any surprises!). I could go on & on but I'm sure it's all already been covered. read more

Not a bad park. Been there for a bbq.. they have grills available for everyone to use. It's not even overcrowded, compared to Central Park. It's much like Central Park but without the tourists, and more of a park. They have the same boathouse, lakes, zoos, etc just like Central Park. But alas, it is too far for this Queens girl to travel to :( read more

Easy to get to from where I live and not as overwhelming as Central Park. Found my buddies quite quickly on a busy Saturday afternoon on my first trip here. P.S. I love, love the Grand Army Plaza entrance! read more

prospect park doesn't feel as trodden as the oft compared central park. prospect also somehow feels more genuine than its famous brother. there are several wooded areas and secluded spots that can help one escape the madness of the city. last spring i took a sick day and headed over to the park at noon. i slept in the middle of a picaresque meadow which i had all to myself for 3 hours... i felt like the girl on the cover of the sound of music (google image it). prospect park is also full of hidden gems, you can walk down a lonely winding trail which passes by a secluded pond before heading down into a lonely tunnel which at the moment hosts a violinist who is bearing her soul through her instrument. there's no tip cup, no audience, no pretension... shes just a local musician enjoying her craft in a hidden acoustic sweet spot. grab a date, some specialty sandwiches, a blanket, and a bottle of wine (yea yea, shhhh) then head over one of the two hidden dry fountains (that i'm aware of). these spots are so secluded and romantic that you'll find it difficult to resist the urge to 'round a few bases'... on second thought, grab two blankets. moving on, there is also an unadvertised mountain biking trail/route just north of the zoo. its hard to find but it is worth the hunt as it contains some challenging jumps and technical sections. that said, i wouldn't recommend it for beginners. band shells, skating rinks, tennis courts, horse trails, merry go rounds, lakes, trails, fields, fun... prospect park may be overshadowed by central park but that doesn't mean its not the nicer of the two. read more

Fun! Fun! Fun! Biking, jogging, ultimate frisbee, football, etc etc etc! Great for a light walk in the park and a few chipped wood road. There are fishing spots, but catch and release only. Hey, who wants to eat the fish from that pond anyway? read more

If you want to escape the city and feel like you are in the middle of nowhere for awhile go to prospect park. Just don't do it at night or when your depressed (Google says messed up things happen to people at the park who are feeling down or when it's dark). It takes over an hour to walk the length of the park and the main entrance by the Brooklyn library has some incredible architecture to welcome you. It's a beautiful park with huge open fields to walk your dog, lay a blanket down and nap, or just read a book on the bench. It's not Times Square and it's not a mind blowing park but it's a nice getaway in a very fast paced part of town. Attached there is a zoo and botanical garden too but it's not free and we were feeling cheap so I didn't go. Also, it borders the massive Brooklyn library and a large museum. If you have trouble finding it like we did just walk until you see said library, there are mini parks along the way but you won't be able to access it from any of them so keep walking. read more

This park is by far my favorite within the five boroughs!!! There are so many twists and turns and secret places to hang out!!! I love jogging the three miles around every morning and the trails off the paths are clear enough to jog on without tripping all over yourself. The scenary is perfect and I love that on Sunday nights my Haitian people come out ans play Ra-Ra Muzik!!! Makes me wish I was back home but the pond by Parkside Ave will just have to do for now :-) read more

This park is a good ride from my apartment so I actually make it all the way out just to see it often. This is also one of my favorite places to meet people in the south part of Brooklyn for craigslist sales and purchases. Big open spaces and rich history surround this park and the locals frequent it often. Pretty desolate at night, watch your back. read more

Way nicer experience than central park. This park is actually big enough that you forget you're in the city. You don't have to deal with obnoxious mimes or food vendors trying to pimp you a hot dog for $5. There are great event there all year round like the googamooga (google it, it's a real thing) or the summer concert series and the many other various festivals that come during the summer. Prospect Park is definitely the place to be! read more

Beautiful park that is comparable to Central Park, but without the crowds. Who said Brookyn can't be pretty?

Cute big park in the quiet and calm side of Brooklyn. The hiking trails are nice and perfect place for a run!

WOW!!! This park is gorgeous!!! I am so fortunate that I got to spend a couple days here with a show. I got my bicycle out and enjoyed the beautiful 3.5 mile trip around the park. Lots of hills, so it's a decent little workout. It was bustling with people in the middle of the week, so it felt comfortable to run around solo as a female. If you are looking for a lovely park while in Brooklyn, put this one at the top of your list. read more

I lost 100 pounds in large part due to Prospect Park being in my front yard. That perfect 3.25 mile. I miss it so.

Prospect Park kicks Central Park's ass, Brooklyn style. It's clean, has tons and tons of space, and is fairly quiet. I love the fact that I don't have to wrangle other people's children whenever I go here. Best of all, I can hear all of their outdoor concerts from my apartment, so I don't have to pay for any shows. Huzzah for the park! read more

This is THE great park of New York City. I am amazed at how many times people have argued with me over Central Park's superiority - Prospect Park is in a class by itself - huge, beautiful, lush - if you look hard enough you can find anything you want in it and it would take a very long time to discover all of its treasures. read more
