I took my daughter here for three appointments for dizziness. First of all, her dizziness has become worse since the treatment. Secondly, I feel the cost they charged us is unethical. For 3, 15 minute appointments we were initially charged $140 for the first visit and $95 each for the second and third visit. Now we are being charged an additional $122?! read more

My primary care physician (PCP) referred me to proactive for a nagging (10 month) knee issue after the xray looked normal. I get a call to schedule and after we sorted out which location was best for me I schedule the consultation. Everyone was very professional and nice from Wendi who made clear the COVID precautions, to Grace who did my consult and worked with me each time I went. The only negative which cost them a star, was the availability. The only appointment time I could get was 4:30. My work hours are pretty flexible but I ended up having to race across town twice a week. Went in to pay a $25 same day cancellation fee and tell them I couldn't make it anymore and they waved the fee. Kudos. read more

After a driver in a pickup truck rear-ended my wife and me while we were sitting at the light, our primary care provider told us we most likely had a whiplash, given the speed he hit the back of our car. She gave us a referral to ProActive Physical Therapy. I am so happy she sent us there. I've gone to a different physical therapy place before and wasn't happy with it. I had no problem with the employees, they were great -- it was the owner. She couldn't separate her business from ranting about her views on a myriad of subjects that had nothing to do with my physical therapy. I can't say enough good things about ProActive Physical Therapy East. I don't know if the folks working there have been secretly outfitted with shock collars that go off if they aren't friendly to the clients or what! Not only are they professional and a credit to physical therapy, but EVERYONE, from the folks at the front desk to the people doing your physical therapy, seem to be the friendliest people on the planet. From the moment you come in the door, they greet you by your name and act like you are their long-lost friend who just got back into town and they're thrilled to see you. The staff here is wonderful! My treatments for a frozen shoulder are helping a lot, after just one week. It's really helpful to have exercises printed out and a website that shows short videos on how to properly do the stretches and a place to log what's been done. read more

I went here every week for two months, but I felt I was throwing my money away and wasting more of my time. The staff didn't even remember what was injured and when I was greeted they would often ask "how's your ankle" and even after telling them many times my ankle isn't injured they would still ask this the following week. They would often try to make small talk with me and ask if I've been hiking, which also shows how little they care because I told them every week that I could barely walk and even going grocery shopping is a huge struggle. I disliked how you pay so much and you only get about ten minutes with the physical therapist. He asked me the same questions every week showing that he also didn't remember information about my injury. Then he would leave and say "just keep doing what you're doing". It's quite frustrating because during the visit I was only told to do exercises I'm already doing and then I clearly wasn't listened to. I don't want to go broke paying for a service when they aren't motivated for me to even get better and it seemed like they don't take notes or make an effort to remember basic information about my injury. I received better care at BodyCentral. I would go there instead if you are able to. read more

I have been to several sessions and received excellent treatment every time by the individual therapists and the front desk people. They are always friendly, upbeat, and helpful. They make you feel that they are glad to see you. Therapists are also clear on why they are providing this or that exercise or treatments, how it helps and what you can do at home to further your recovery and fitness. read more

A mysterious pain in the leg I had a partial knee replacement on a couple of years ago was getting so bad, I had real concerns about any future of the planned active retirement ( ski, golf, hike tennis bike ect). Neither My long time Doctor, nor my Orthopod who did the knee, were of any real help. After a month of stretching religiously ( docs idea ), massage therapy, acupuncture , and pain meds , I was getting desperate. Paid ( out of network for Athena ), to get in here. Jon Wolff took the time ( we took a 15 - 20 minute walk to trigger the onset of pain )and he had the understanding to help get the diagnosis and treatment. After 4 visits, we know what's going on and things are much improved. I agree with other reviewers, don't mess around,; go here. read more

I am so picky about PT after a useless, time and money wasting experience in Santa Barbara CA. I went to Eileen at ProActive about my tennis elbow and she was GREAT. She's very knowledgeable and gave me exercises to strengthen. She even gave me the name of syndrome to ask my doctor about which would explain my loose joints/muscles. Thank you Eileen! When I told Eileen that I was having pain in my feet, she referred me to Craig who also really knows his stuff. I am now seeing Craig for foot and ankle pain and today when I had bad low back pain he helped me with that instead of telling me that it was outside the scope of my appointment or telling me to make an appointment for that issue. Craig and Eileen are both very hands on and I feel like I get my money's worth out of my appointments. The PTs here seem to really care and really want to help. The two downsides to this practice is that they are often so busy that you don't have anyone's full attention and secondly, and most annoyingly, the front desk girl has quite an attitude which is annoying at best. Last time she handed me my receipt as though she had wet finger nail polish. WTF? read more

I started physical therapy at Proactive after surgery to reconstruct a torn knee ligament and microfracture surgery to mitigate cartilage loss in the patella. Due to the particulars of my surgery I spent six weeks in a straight leg brace and needed substantial help in rebuilding the musculature and muscle memory for my injured leg. From the moment my surgeon gave me the green light to start PT going to Proactive to work with Dr Kevin Fay was the high point of my week every time I went there. Kevin and the rest of the staff were impressively knowledgeable from a sports science viewpoint and they worked with me to not just recover my lost strength but also do it in a way that encouraged properly balanced musculature, stability and correct muscle memory while avoiding developing poor bio-mechanical habits. Just as important they helped me to understand when and how to return to sport and what to expect and how to condition going forward. As an athlete, I really felt that the sports medicine understanding at ProActive was crucial in getting me back to the activities I love in an appropriate time frame, conditioned properly, and confident that I can avoid similar issues going forward. read more

John Woolf and Mike Colombo saved my life. Okay. Maybe not literally, but in a round-about way. Here is my story, then I will get to specifics. After having mysteriously (as in not exactly sure what did it) partially dislocating BOTH of my knees, tearing up minor ligaments, bruising all the muscles and about five other things from the MRI.... I went to the physical therapy (PT)place right next to my orthopedic doc. Bad move. And it was my fault. I didn't ask for a recommendation and didn't look into references. I just used convenience as my guide. NEVER AGAIN! I was not happy with my PT and was not getting the treatment I really needed. I had gone from working out six days a week and training for a half marathon to barely walking. And it just wasn't getting better. I quit going to PT and was doing things on my own until my friends father (who is a PT in Phoenix recommended Proactive, and specifically John Woolf). My consultation with John was quite simply amazing. He asked me about my goals, where I wanted to be at the end of treatment, and took the time to explain everything to me. And by everything, I mean from his philosophy of PT to how he treats the body as an entire system, to what was not working in my body, to the plan to get me better. I was so relieved I was in tears. And he totally understood it. He got how important it was to me to get back to running. My bi-weekly sessions were with Mike (and sometime other staff). And he pushed me when I needed it, and helped me back off when I was doing too much. He was such a great therapist. John would check in on me, and the entire staff worked as a team to get me better. I started seeing them in October 2009. When I came in, I could barely walk. By December I had started running up to a mile. The first week in March of 2010, I ran a half marathon. I truly thought I would never get to run again and was severely depressed by that. But because of everyone at Proactive I am now back to running and I don't know what I would have done without them. I was seen at the central location so I can only speak to that. But here goes... The front desk staff were great. They remembered my name. They were extremely nice and very patient. It could be difficult getting the initial schedule set up but once you do, everything runs great. By difficult I am only referring to coordinating my own schedule with that of my therapist. The location! Beautiful. The treatment room has windows that overlook the Rillito River wash and the foothills. In addition, I would come early (or stay after) and run on the wash trails. Which brings me to my next point. The Facility. Amazing. They have lockers, bathrooms, and a shower. All are available for use. My therapy was not what you think of with PT. I would leave there drenched from working so hard. So it was great to have the options of a shower and lockers, etc. Equipment: All of the equipment is in great shape and fairly new. They have everything you could possibly need for PT. If you ever have to go to physical therapy for anything, go here. This is the only place I will ever go. read more

My experience at Proactive PT has been phenomenal. The staff, be it the receptionists, the techs and the Physical therapists, all seem to have vested interests in your recovery. I have struggled for years with my injuries, and was unable to find solutions with other physical therapists. Chad's personalized approach each session has really made all the difference in my recovery. Each week, he spent the time to really listen to me and assess how I was progressing and was able to redirect my exercise plan as needed. We are not Tucson residents year round, so I put out a request on NextDoor.com for a recommendation for a physical therapist for my sciatica. A couple people recommended ProActive, so I went and met with a female doctor and explained the history of my pain and all the other things I had tried (injections, chiro, massage, etc). She did an extensive interview, then we went to the table and she did some manipulations. Sent me home with a bunch of exercises to do, which I did....however, they made my pain WORSE. I kept with it though, thinking this woman had a PhD and I should keep trying. On my 3rd visit, I told the Dr.'s assistant that the core-strengthening exercises had made my pain so bad I was awake until 2:30 in the morning with throbbing pain. She went and spoke to the doctor, then came back and had me do....you guessed it....a core-strengthening exercise. I was dumbfounded, and refused to do it. Thankfully, my session was about over and I walked up to the desk to cancel the rest of my appointments. They likely help other people, but were CLUELESS when it came to my situation. I will not go to them again. Thankfully, someone else from Tucson Racquet Club recommended Halili P.T. and after 6 weeks, I'm off pain meds and my pain is all but gone. read more

I initially started at ProActive back in 2012 for a hip flexor/ischium issue I was having. I am a competitive athlete and had a competition coming up so it was imperative for me to get it fixed. I had tried other modalities to fix it to no avail. I first saw John Woolf who focused on the emotional relationship to the injury, which was surprisingly very effective. Currently I receive dry needling on my hip flexor/shoulder from Jon Davison. Both PTs have been extremely knowledgable and thorough. It's also a fun experience coming in. I had a hard time deciding where to go to get physical therapy for the 4 level cervical fusion I received to treat my broken neck. Past experiences with other Physical Therapists made me feel PT was a sad joke and a waste of time and money. Luckily I tried the Paradise Falls office of Proactive and met therapist Ben Shook! The atmosphere of this office is completely different than the other places I'd tried in that is was very professional and caring, with lots of personal attention being paid to every client. Ben spent our sessions together massaging and applying gentle traction to my neck to loosen the iron grip of my muscles, and lifting my spirits with laughter with his stories. From the moment you walk in and Sandra greets you with a smile and knows you by name until the time you drag your self out from exhaustion, the positive atmosphere is beyond explanation. I drove my husband to his Proactive Physical Therapy (he had a shoulder replacement and could not drive) and as we were pulling into their parking lot he got a call from Proactive saying he was 5 min late and they would have to reschedule. We walked in the door, which we were at, and were basically ignored. They were incredibly rude -- he had an hour appointment, so the least the therapist, Micah Smith, could have done was come out and talked to him. They just left us standing. The arrogance demonstrated by their office was amazing. They seemed to forget that Physical Therapy also involves mental health and that kind of arrogance says to the patient that they are far less important than the therapist is. My husband checked with Tucson Orthopedic Institute Physical Therapy and they said they never cancel an appointment unless the patient is more than 15 min late, which is pretty standard. So, be forewarned -- do not schedule with the "royalty" at ProActive unless you can be sure you will NEVER be late. They wasted my time as well as my husband's time making a round trip. My husband cancelled the remaining 15 appointments he had and changed to a more patient friendly environment. read more

Had a GREAT experience at ProActive! I tore my ACL and as a 28 year old mother of a cruising 7 month old I was eager to get moving again. Dr. Kevin Fay was the BEST I could have asked for! He was patient and kind but always pushed me to get stronger each session. He and the rest of the staff were always so good to me. Thanks to what I learned at ProActive I now feel stronger than ever. I am able to be the active mother I always was before my injury. I am even running and snowboarding. My daughter came here after her ACL/Meniscus repair and had a wonderful experience. Unfortunately, since my PT Chad moved away, I had a horrible time here. They transferred my case to their NW location to someone that "takes the difficult cases" and I was told that nothing was wrong with me and I just needed to exercise in incrementally longer time periods so that my body would learn not to hurt.....huh? Since leaving this place I have seen several specialists that confirmed what Chad had suspected and had been treating me for and referred me back to PT (NOT ProActive) so I could get proper treatment and I am doing well now. Unfortunately, it really depends on which PT you see at ProActive and which techs they have you work with. I wish I could say they were all as good as Chad had been. read more

I started PT at ProActive at the beginning of the year for a nasty Achilles tendon injury, that I've been carrying with me for more than half a year. Before PT, the injury was slowly getting worse, to the point where I couldn't run anymore. At PT, I was helped by Chad, who was assisted either by Jason or Dana. All these guys were awesome! The treatment was highly personalized. I learned things about running and impact on my body that I had no idea about, despite the fact that I've been running for well over 20 years. After approximately 3 months of treatment, I can now run again! And no surgery. Couldn't be happier. read more

Craig Smith, DPT, and the capable team at Proactive Physical Therapy have been helping me for just over 5 weeks now. In that time we've progressed from the rapid diagnosis of a relatively rare (sacro-iliac) joint injury from my childhood, to hands-on treatment of musculoskeletal misalignments and training in exercises that promote postural corrections and healing of every body part, neck to feet, that had become progressively more painful over decades. Throughout treatment, Dr. Smith has spent at least half of each hour-long session with me personally, evaluating my condition, answering questions, carrying out mobilizations and adjustments that have relieved a great deal of pain, and teaching me to manage the consequences of my injury so that I can continue to have an active life. I had no previous experience with physical therapy but when my doctor and an osteopathic sports specialist were not successful in addressing my pain from a neck and chronic shoulder issue, I feared that I would require surgery. A personal trainer suggested that I try physical therapy first and recommended ProActive Physical Therapy. From the beginning, I have been very impressed with the entire operation. From the front desk to the therapists and techs, everyone has been extremely helpful and professional. I consulted with Kevin Fay who evaluated the issues and provided a course of treatment which has given me a much greater range of motion with very little of the pain remaining. I added massage with Maria Sprague which has been incredibly therapeutic. Encouraged by the improvement in my neck & shoulders, I decided to consult Eileen Ware (hand/arm specialist) about my trigger finger. I had tried cortisone injections to address the pain and locking of my finger and resisted everyone's advice to have the surgery. Eileen gave me a treatment plan with massage, ultrasound therapy and exercises which have significantly reduced the pain and improved the function of my hand. I felt ready to return to exercise but wanted to protect the physical gains I had made. I signed up for some personal training sessions with Eric Hobson which have been a real confidence builder and surprisingly enjoyable. I feel very comfortable giving a five star rating to the entire staff at ProActive. I am very appreciative of how much they have added to my enjoyment of life. read more

I have never had Physical Therapy before. I consider myself an "ancient" athlete. Been running for at least 35 years. For many years taking Zumba classes and other physical activities just about daily. Try to stay in shape to keep my body fit. What brought me here was an unfortunate car accident which resulted in damage to my neck mobility. My doctor sent me for Physical Therapy to work on my ease of mobility in the neck area. Firstly and very important to me is the greeting you get when you first sign in. Most people concentrate on the PT's and their assistants which of course is important but let's not forget the front desk. They smile and welcome you each time you come in. Even looking you in the eye. Surprise, surprise. I'm sensitive to that because as a former Dental Assistant I know how important it is to have a good relationship with patients. Amanda and the other girls at the front desk are just awesome and know how to make you feel comfortable. I was assigned to Kevin Fay and Irene K. who are amazing. Both make you feel at ease. They explain what they are doing and why. Also tips and exercises to do at home. Both Kevin and Irene have great hands and work on the areas that are hurting. There is the din of chatter and some pretty upbeat music to help you along. Everyone here deserves much KUDOS. read more

This is truly a first-rate physical therapy facility. My urologist had given me a list of physical therapists I could see for pelvic floor dysfunction. I chose ProActive therapist, Molly Mikles at the Thoryndale facility and boy I'm glad I did! Molly was incredible. She is very knowledgeable, thorough, professional, and above all is a terrific listener. She keyed right into my problems and answered all my questions with facts and information. From the smallest concern, to the largest issues, her handling of my PT problem was spot on. After only a couple months, my problem has been resolved and I feel a lot of it is due to Molly's expertise. Annie, Molly's technician, was also incredibly helpful, patient, and kind. Proactive is a well run ship-- appointment scheduling/changing is a breeze and the young women at the front desk are attentive and helpful. I never waited more than 3 minutes for my appointment and in the rare event I needed to change a date or time, rescheduling was easy and efficient. The facility itself is clean and attractive with a "happy" feeling when you walk through the doors. I commend the owners/managers of this facility for the fine job they are doing bringing quality physical therapy to the Tucson area. Highly recommended! read more

as a clevelander i am prone to believing the cleveland clinic is above and beyond all else. i have to say, that my experience here was better than the cleveland clinic. i've had hip/knee problems for 10 years, and ben @ proactive is the fist one to figure out what the actual root of the problem was and how to deal with it. this is hands down the best place to go. read more

I love working with Jon Davison. He's always very responsive and knowledgable. He makes me feel very comfortable with his care plan, and explains all his findings and plans with me before getting started. I never feel in the dark and always feel that he cares about getting me back to running and biking. His treatment plans are always well thought out, and he's always taken into consideration the marathons, triathlons or bike races that I have coming up. However, he's never afraid to recommend to me that I need to take time off, or offer an alternative to the activity that may have been causing me pain. I trust his judgement and his ability to help me work through my physical ailments. He's also taught me about my own body's functions, proper form and training to help keep me out of his office in the future. I've recommended my father, friends, coaches and other fellow athletes to go to them as well, and they've all had similarly great success in resolving their issues and improving their health. It's amazing how much differently I see "injury" now, compared to before I started going to ProActive and learned about how to be proactive in my own training and injury prevention! John and Craig I wanted to take a few minutes and let you know how remarkable "Proactive PT" is! I have just recorded the best training week that I have probably ever had. I am only 7 weeks out from the Ironman World Championships at Kona. To have qualified is a dream come true - but to go into this race feeling strong, healthy and competitive is so significant from both a physical and mental aspect. Seton has really loaded my training ramping up both intensity and duration the past 2 weeks and I feel better than I have felt in years. Every time I have an appointment with either of you , my next workout is a monumental improvement over the prior one. I can tell a difference in my training in all three events. My posture is even better than its been in years. For the first time in probably 3-4 years I feel like I did in training 8-10 years ago. I feel stronger, more stable and like by body is working for me and not against me. I feel like I can finally get a lung full of air. Its funny how much of a difference the two of you have made in such a short period of time. This is such a mental sport that its hard to stay positive when you know your body is betraying you in so many little ways that you feel you don't have control over. It seems like the diaphragm and rib manipulations have allowed me more breath, equating to more power and strength that is showing up in each event. You see results like this every day I am sure - but honestly I thought I was past the point of being able to feel this way again. - Was I ever wrong! I can hardly wait for the next workout to see how much better its going to be. You have made such a significant difference in such a short amount of time. I can see the results every time I train and the improvement is so exciting for me and has provided such a positive mental lift that I wanted to thank you both. Its really hard to express just how grateful I am - how much better I feel - and this is still just the beginning!
