Zero stars they make you do one. The worst company I've ever dealt with. John the owner is a scam artist, company did $10,000 worth of damage and refused to give insurance information, making me believe he is not insured. Refuses to pay for damages even though we have proof they did the damage. The crew supervisor also took pictures and sent them to the owner. The owner John lied and said there was no pictures do what you have to do. I personally watched the supervisor send the pictures to "John" on his phone. No reason to believe he did not send them to the owner. The Illinois Attorney General's Office has a file on Pro Tree Service. I will keep the complaint open for action until I am furnished with a valid Insurance Company. Say what you want John my next order of business is criminal charges. John, you are committing fraud and I will not be your victim. read more

I hired John to trim my neighbors maple trees back to property line. From the start this job was a nightmare. We set a date for work to be performed and it's the day before and I still have no confirmation so I call him and asked if we were still on? He said he should know later and to call him back I'm like no you call me . I don't hear anything from him so I assumed it's off. So the next morning I get a call from my wife saying the tree trimmers are here and he wants to know what to do. So she hands her phone to the foreman and I ask didn't John go over job with you and he states no. I should of just sent them home at that time. Instead I tell him where property line is and luckily I had a picture of scope of work in phone so I sent it to him. He keeps calling me at work asking me questions about job I said I don't have time for this if you don't understand job then leave. So I get home from work that day to find my neighbors trees butchered. Let me tell you I did professional tree trimming for five years so I know what I'm talking about. He left 2 big leads with no lateral and left all stubs no flush cuts. They broke a large branch off the small ornamental tree underneath it and just left it no flush cut. So I call John and get no answer so I take pics and email him. He calls me back later and is very stand offish so I express my concerns and he says what do you care they are not your trees, what do you know about trimming trees and we left it like that because your neighbor told us to stop. I said look I paid you to do a job correctly which is not and if he told you to stop why did you start 2nd tree? He then states he ain't f**cking trimming anymore of that tree for the same amount of money. So I hang up on him and go talk to neighbor which he confirms what he told me earlier he never told them to stop trimming and that he actually left while they were still trimming the first tree. So I call John back and get voicemail and I state these issues need to be addressed. The following morning while I'm at work I get a text stating that a crew is on its way out to fix trees. I ask if we can reschedule for a day I am home and he says no I'm busy. So I'm like ok try to do it right this time. So I text my neighbor to keep him in loop he confirms it's a totally different crew and they acknowledge when they turned the corner the cuts were bad. It turns out they got a job across the street when they were at mine I'm pretty sure that's the only reason he came back. So I get home and cuts were good but the two big leads that were discussed to be taken to a lateral had to be taken back to trunk because they screwed the lateral up. After they were done that day they knocked on door asking for money and my wife stated not till I see work. Now on the proposal it says you can pay by credit card not sure how my wife would of paid that day. So the following Mon I get a voicemail from John he wants to be paid. He then calls again and again. So I send him a email saying send me a bill so I can pay by credit card and get no response. He keeps calling and leaving nasty voicemails. In one of the voicemails he actually said he was going to come dump this f**cking tree in front of my house. I'm thinking what kind of business is this bill for you work cmon. Finally I'm am fed up with calls so I just send him a check and a email that check is in mail which he responds nasty too. This experience is nothing less that horrible from the workmanship the first day to poor, rude customer service with John. I wish I would of went with Homer they were only $50 more. I am still apologizing to my neighbor to this day. Follow up: Johns response shows exactly what type of business man he is a liar. He says I was fired how does he know. I actually left Asplundh for better career, I never argued with my neighbor on what needed to be trimmed I was at work and my neighbor left while job was being performed. He did not have my wife's phone number and I did not block him. Also a credit card payment would of been a safer option for him than a check which I could cancel I just like the points on the cc. John was paid within 10 days of completed work. Do yourself a favor and hire someone else. read more

He calls you up before the job is even finished demanding the balance due and says he's not your bank. He swears at you and basically tells you to "go f**k yourself" Pay attention to his attitude in the reviews that he responds to. He doesn't bother to thank people for their good review (not sure how there even are any) but he attacks the people who leave bad reviews. His attitude is clear. Even if the company didn't damage my garage and porch railing by trying to force a large tree branch through the space and even if they didn't cut down a tree I told them not to I still wouldn't ever recommend them to ANYONE!!! I can't say if their service was good or not because they Never keep appointment to that was scheduled for service. I received a call from John on a Sunday informing me that i was on their schedule for the upcoming Friday 09/04/2020, no specific time (i was okay with that). Friday comes time is going at about 4pm no one has called from Pro Tree, but i have made multiple calls, i finally reach John who tells me the crew is coming the work until the sun goes down or they may come out Saturday. No crew Friday or Saturday, i am unable to reach anyone. I finally reach John on Tuesday, tell him about the no service and lack of communication, he tells me they have too many customers to call for updating on appointments. Personally i think this was a horrible thing to say, when he made no mention of why i had been scheduled for service but crew was a no show even with the extra day of Saturday, he told me we are going to get to your property tomorrow Wednesday. I called another company for service then called John back to let him know his service was no longer needed, his question was when are they coming out, i informed him Wednesday the same day as he promised but they communicated better. read more

I received the referral. I contacted Pro Tree Service by email and by phone. I was contacted by a representative-John Baio. A representative of the company-Tony- came out to my home, gave me a quote. I agreed to the price and Tony wrote out the estimate, along with a scheduled date for the job. (Actually a date range: 9/8 or 9/10) I called to confirm an approximate time, but was unable to reach anyone by phone. I sent out an email, along with leaving several messages. I did not hear from Pro Tree Service and no one showed up for the scheduled job. No call, no service and no explanation. I am a very understanding and patient person. My appointment was for the 8th or 10th of September. That in itself was a little strange, but I accepted the schedule offered. When no one showed up on the 9/8/2020, I figured the next date. I do realize and understand "things happen", especially during these troubling times, but usually someone calls with some reassurance. Even if the job needed to be rescheduled for whatever the reason, a phone call is not to much to ask. I was not getting the job for free; I was paying the price quoted to me for the job. After reading your response to my recent review, I feel I struck a nerve. I do find it interesting that you responded quickly to my review today, but not to any of my messages left three days ago. Again, a phone call goes a long way, where you would have seen how patient and understanding I could be. ....remember, you were providing me with a service I wanted... I called you. And yes, you are correct, you nor I can not control the weather, but communication was and is in your control. The true facts remain: no one responded to my phone calls or email, no one called on the two scheduled dates to reschedule when weather might be better. This goes back to my original point - Proper Communication - which did not occur.....so now you don't want my business. I'm okay with that; and no, thank You! My wife was searching online for a tree removal service. She entered our information into home advisor. Yesterday, 6/6/22 she received a phone call from who we later found out was Tony. She didn't answer the phone due to being unavailable. He proceeded to call her again almost right away. When she didn't answer again, he sent a text message that wasn't responded to. You would think he took the hint that she was unavailable at the moment and just wait for a response. No, Tony decided he was just going to show up to our house. He rang our doorbell, waited a few minutes and rang it again. No answer. He then walked onto our property, up our driveway, looked into my car and into my back yard. It was clearly stated that the tree in question was in our driveway, you can see it from the street. Not only was he not invited to our property, he showed up unannounced, peering into my vehicle and backyard that have absolutely nothing to do with the tree in question. He then sat in his car for some time and then left a flyer and a written quote in my mailbox. He did not have consent to be at my home and if you are not a USPS employee, it is illegal to put things into my mailbox. He actually looked into my mailbox before putting the paper in there, seeming to be trying to see what was in there. I have him on camera doing this. I also have recorded proof that he spent 20 minutes on my property after not being invited. The whole situation was very unprofessional and strange. I was actually home at the time he showed up but chose not to answer the door as I wasn't expecting anyone and was trying to nap. I also was not aware of his attempts to contact my wife before he showed up. I left it unanswered thinking that any normal person would just leave after no response. Instead he spent 20 minutes here. I can understand if you're here for 5 or 10 minutes to write a quick quote, but 20 minutes? After his 3 previous attempts to contact us weren't successful? Extremely unprofessional. Harassment is not the way to gain customers. Showing up to people's homes uninvited and unannounced is unprofessional and creepy. When my wife called to ask why he spent 20 mins on my property without consent he claimed it was ok because he tried to call and she didn't answer the phone. He acted as if it is no big deal. That is not ok. I will never even consider this company after this and will do everything in my power to steer others away. Trespassing and tampering with mailboxes is very much illegal. Apparently they are unaware of this or simply just don't care. Stay away and be aware that if you enter your information on home advisor, they may just show up unannounced and let themselves onto your property without hesitation. I will choose a company who doesn't trespass onto property and tamper with mailboxes to try to gain customers. Maybe next time just wait for a response instead of breaking laws and being creeps. read more

Never showed up then left a paper with "$750" on it for "trim branches." What does that mean?!

I would not count on this company - they are not reliable! Came out to do an estimate immediately and then gave us the run around as to when they could do the job. My husband would contact Gerardo, who came out to do the estimate and accepted the job, but when my husband would call to check on the status he would just get the run around. Always promised a call back - there was never a call back. Very unprofessional. We contacted another company which came out the very next day and did a great professional job. Joe Velez John - Its amazing how you comment on the negative comments with a negative response. If your profession is to work outside then the weather should not be a factor. As for our job being rescheduled we were never contacted or notified about the change. The day that it rained was not the day your workers were supposed to come and do the job. We got an estimate to have four trees taken down a few days ago. The estimate we were given was extremely fair for the job. Today they showed up and they were very professional and hard working. In all, the job took four hours and we were very impressed with how they handled a difficult job. I would highly recommend them to everyone. read more

The owner, John, was very unprofessional. He was not present during the service and sent workers who didn't speak much English. I was told they would be at my property Thursday or Friday (no certain date) at 9am. They showed up at 330 or 4 pm on Thursday. The job was to remove or trim the tree that extends from the neighboring property on to my property and was approved by the neighbor. During the removal, the neighbor changed her mind and told the workers not to trim or remove any more of the tree. She began speaking Spanish to the workers and despite my request as well as me paying for the service, they would not proceed further. I contacted the owner and asked can things be resolved or revised and he immediately began yelling at me that he "does not come out for anything less than $300" and eventually hung up on me. Instead of arguing, I gave the workers a check for payment in full and was promised a receipt (upon request). Hours later, after not receiving my receipt, I emailed John and informed him that a stop payment will be issued on the check until I receive a receipt. After 9 pm, John called me and I was unavailable. He then sent me a text that said "Call Me". Upon calling him a few minutes later, John went on to tell me that he doesn't have to give me a receipt for the incomplete service and that "I DON'T LIKE THAT SHIT!" After trying to communicate with him calmly and his continued disrespect, yelling and cursing and refusing to provide a receipt, I hung up on him. He provided me with a text telling me that what I did was illegal (which was not) and is a theft of service (which the service is not complete so therefore is impossible). Despite the incomplete work and unprofessionalism, I have paid him $300 (as he requested). Now I have to hire someone else to complete the work. A business that accepts payments but doesn't provide receipts or written estimates is very suspicious to me and can be perceived as tax evasion. read more

I called yesterday left a message please let me know the day you are coming. No return call. They just showed up the next day! We have 3 dogs and my husband works from home we need to now to make arrangements. I called John and he was sooo rude. Made it seem like I was unreasonable just for asking the day he was coming. All I can say is I should have read the reviews first. Johns price was very good. His workers were nice and they did a great job. We never received a contract or written estimate with specifics. This was our first tree removal. The problem arose because they were not removing the shredded wood materials. I was told by the workers that there is an extra cost involved. I challenged this since I just assumed there was a complete clean-up in the price. When I called John and questioned this he immediately jumped on the defensive. And said I was yelling at him. I have an assertive voice and apologized if it was received wrong. Even with that he continued to be disrespectful, and unprofessional. He cussed and used he Lords name in vane. He also said it would cost another 100.00 to clean it up. When I questioned the price he proceeded to say I lived in LaGrange Park and 100.00 is no big deal. He continued to say that I Ilved in an area that 100.00 shouldn't make a difference (I should mention that he asked my address before he told me 100.00). The way John chooses to communicate with customers (as I read the reviews) is nothing short of verbal harassment. Poor communication and combative language is who he is. When there are a few bad reviews you can understand that, that happens. But the amount of unhappy customers speaks for itself. read more

Please do not count on these people! This company is unreliable! They show up a day early to cut the tree. Which is fine I guess but they were lucky we were off work. They said they would come back the next day to grind the stump. They never came. No calls as to why. We called the day after that and they said they would come later that day or the next day. Still no show no call. We called them again yesterday, Friday. (Tree cut down was on Tuesday) and they don't give any explanation on why they never show up. Finally come on Saturday and ruined the lawn. We called the boss John who was completely rude and cursing at us. He said that our job was too small and they have bigger jobs and we were not important. Pretty much saying he's not making much money off us. We called because we wanted a discount for their delay. He refused and said he we can't afford to pay we should sell our house. This guy is a complete moron on the things he was saying! He said we planned this! How did I plan their delay. Called for someone to come out and give me a quote to drop 2 trees . The person I talked to on phone said it would be $300 dollars per tree to drop before I could even finish telling him what I needed. I tried to explain to him that I just wanted 2 trees drop and I could do rest and that trees were only 10in diameter. They rudely cut me off and said good luck finding another company to bring their "shit" out to do that work and then hung up on me. I was very blown away by this costumer service as I was very courteous and in a pleasant mood the whole call. I've never left a negative review before, but felt this needed one. I left one on Google and company responded calling me a liar, saying that they record their phone calls and that I cursed at them. I would love for them to share that recording. I called 2 other local company's and they were extremely pleasant and are actually coming put to give me a estimates instead of just throwing numbers out at me hoping I would bite. If you are looking for any type of service from this company look elsewhere. The only decent thing about their service was the price but timing and scheduling mean nothing to them, don't bother setting up an appointment date cause they show up when they want. They showed up the day before the scheduled date and did half the job and nearly dropped the tree on my neighbors house. Then they said they would come the following day to remove the stump. They never showed and I was left in the dark not knowing when they will show. I called the owner John several times he didn't seem to care and his reply was they are behind. They finally showed up 4 days after the tree was cut. I spoke to the owner John after the job was done to renegotiate the price because of the horrible scheduling, at that point the owner was very rude and started cursing at me. Mind you I was respectful during this whole conversation and didn't curse back at the man once. This is not how a business owner should run his business. Not only was he rude and ignorant to a paying customer but he didn't seem to care that he was in the wrong. Working in law enforcement I deal with rude and ignorant people at work all the time, and it's really disappointing that I have to deal with this type of aggressive behavior on my day off as a paying customer from a business who claims professionalism. DO NOT HIRE THIS GROUP! Wish there was a 0 star rating! Besides the lack of service noted by many on this forum, the rudeness, not showing up when supposed to, bad clean up, etc. THEY CUT DOWN THE WRONG THE TREE!! Hired them to cut down 3 dead trees in BACK + trim a front yard tree (Hawthorne). Cut the 3 down (came through my yard vs via the field in the back as I asked), did a terrible job on the Hawthorne, and for some reason decided to also cut down my 35', marquee, beautiful, healthy flowering pear tree in my front yard! Since that time, the response to rectifying this colossal mistake has been terrible, starting with a bunch of lies - said they would replace with the biggest tree they could find (a tiny 3.5", 12' tree) and that you can't replant bigger than that bc they won't survive. WRONG on both. A few weeks later when talking with a different company about new trees for the back, I was told they routinely plant 8-10" diameter, 30' trees! Also said no one called them from this company looking for a large tree. Called 2 other groups - exact same response. Still fighting with John the owner (same issues, attitude, etc. that others have noted here) who told me to no longer contact him and cc'd his lawyer. Also is claiming that since I 'accepted' the other tree (even though based on lies - my fault for believing him), that I have no case. He must not know about IL treble law. So again, AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS AND TELL OTHERS. THEY SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN. read more
