I really like that they have the integrity of your tree in mind. I have a large white pine that I get trimmed every few years. I wanted quite a bit trimmed off and the estimator let me know that trees like this pine don't like to be trimmed very much as they will start to die and suggested to me the most they could do without harming the tree. I appreciate they told me that instead of just do it as much as I wanted because I would hate to lose it due to over-trimming. Home Tree has come a long way since I tried to reach out to them almost 10 years ago. This company is the real deal now. About as professional as any company can possibly be. They respond to communication via both phone and email (rare even in these modern times). And crews show up on site and take care of business without having to have their hands held. Late last year I called to have a tree taken down. I was literally in my office that faces the tree, and only noticed a guy at the top of my tree (as tall as a 3 story house) when he started up his chainsaw. Can't say enough good things about this company. We planted two 2 ft. tall Blue Spruce trees 34 years ago and everything was going fine for 31 years. Three years ago, now about 30 feet tall, they started dying almost overnight. We called Homer and they started working on them. Now, three years later, they are healthy again, lots of new growth and looking good. We thought we were going to lose them which would have been heartbreaking. Oversold with VERY poor post sale communication. Many times, you are surprised the day they arrive because they fail to tell you the process. The actual work team is a mixed bag. Some are exceedingly lazy and do things half way, whereas, others are more courteous and should lead the team. Had to push the cutting crew to do the job properly per our agreement and literally almost kicked them off the property before they actually did the work right (e.g. cut the tree to the top of the ground and not a foot from the ground level). Amazing response after August's derecho in New Lenox. Our prize 45+ year old massive linden tree was twisted by the wind and the trunk was split in half. At risk of falling on the house in the next storm, and unable to be climbed due to the precarious nature of the damage, Homer Tree showed up with 4 trucks and a master crew who used a crane and bucket truck to safely saw through the trunk and lift the entire canopy out in two enormous sections, which went right into the chipper. They cut out the rest of the trunk, ground down the stump and the last guy on site used a rake to pick up every last stick and leaf. 45 minutes of extraordinary professionalism. These guys know their stuff. We were extremely sad to lose our amazing, beloved tree but glad we didn't have to worry about or home or property being damaged by inexpert removal. And we were very pleased with the pricing and response time, especially after a disastrous weather event. We heard some outrageous price-gouging quotes. We scheduled work in the fall to be done during dormant season. They forgot about us and scrambled to get it done in April. They came on a Saturday without my prior knowledge. Luckily, I was home but they didn't bother to ask if I was satisfied. When I mentioned a few other branches that needed to be done, they said sorry we are all packed up. Had them remove a tree and grind out a stump. They cut through our inground sprinkler line. No one told. When the system ran flooded our yard. Then when I called to ask how they were going to fix I was told it was my fault. I didn't notify that the tree was on top of the pipe. I have no idea where the pipes are. After speaking to my sprinkler they also stated it's difficult to tell where the pipes unless it is next to a sprinkler head which it is not. Manager from Homer was suppose to call me back. No call back. They are taking no responsibility to fix it. They didn't even have the balls to knock on my door and tell they broke the line. I'll never use them again! read more

I would 100% recommended Homer. They came out at a very devistating time when a tree crushed the house. They took the emergency call and came with cranes getting straight to work within hours. Jim and Becca worked tirelessly calling ComEd to make sure this job was done. A second emergency tree fall (another tree) happened in the meantime. We always used Homer Tree Service at our Orland Park home and recently moved into a townhome with a lot of mature trees. We have a honey locust in front of our window that was not being pruned properly by the HOA vendor and was hanging over the house, dead branches, etc. They had four men here within a week and cleaned it up perfectly, allowing the tree to grow in a healthy manner. I would love to be able to review their ability to cut down a tree and haul it away, but since I have been calling for three months and can't get somebody to actually come out to our house all I can do is rate their customer service. It is horrible. I started calling in June to have several trees removed from our property. They said someone would be out in two weeks. After a month I called back and they said it would be two more weeks because of storms. So I waited. In September I started calling more frequently. I would hear that they were coming in 3-4 days, they are coming this afternoon, I will call you back and tell you when they are coming. Still nothing. We had contracted with Homer Tree Service after they were the most economical of the three estimates we had acquired. Yesterday, Homer Tree Service came and removed two large trees from our backyard (one was a giant old blue spruce), including grinding out the stumps. Then they trimmed a very old elm tree and a huge old oak further back in the yard. The work was professionally done, and our yard was raked and cleaned up after all was completed. Horrible. It took them nearly 6 months to come out and supposedly trim two of my trees. They only trimmed the one and charged me for BOTH!! Unfortunately, I was at work when they came out. I actually forgot, because it had taken so long for them to actually "get it done". Then I wait six more months before I even get my first bill. I contacted them and let them know, with pictures... That only one tree had been pruned. Four months later they sent me another invoice for both trees. I refused to pay, my boyfriend ended up trimming the other one,because it was touching my neighbors house. I would've had no problem paying for the one tree. But the harassment of the last email from Jim R, that I just received today ...was the curtain call. Now they are threatening to send me to collections. Maybe learn how to run your business properly, before you decide to throw someone into the collection bin. No wonder your business is suffering. That's poor business, and you shouldn't charge someone for some thing that you never did. And then harass them months and months later. Get on top of it, or you will lose your business all together. Never have I heard of a tree company charging extra to haul away the mulch from the tree they were hired to remove at the price they charge. Especially when they sell mulch. Then, instead of leaving the pile on the driveway, they leave it in the middle of the lawn to kill the grass. So unprofessional. Last company I used charged half the price and hauled everything, and they don't sell mulch. Never again. read more

I had homer take down 2 trees six months ago. It was 700, and they agreed to grind the stumps as well. They came on the day, but never contacted me before hand. They also didn't grind the stump in the backyard because they couldn't get the grinder into the backyard. I emailed homer to ask about an adjustment, but never got a reply. 6 months later I come home to the stump ground down, tracks through my muddy yard, and a bent chain link fence. The very next day a bill came. When I explained what had happened, they simply stated it happens sometimes. I will never use them again. Here's the actual reply: " I agree with  you on the stumps and I really apologize for that.  I would be upset also.  I wish every job would go smooth but with the amount of work we have, unfortunately there's going to be a wrongdoing every so often even though we strive for perfection.  Thank you for being so nice about the situation and I do hope you call us for any future tree needs and give us another chance." I called Homer Tree Service in April 2014 to trim 5 old oaks. I was told they are six weeks behind in scheduling. After several emails and calls finally I was told late fall. Now here we are December 2014 and finally they schedule. I took the day off work to be here and they don't show up. Really!!!! Eight months to wait and no show. It has been a month since I began calling Homer Tree service for assistance after the storm hit Morris with my street sustaining severe damage. I have had 2 no call no shows and multiple no contacts from an arborist. I was then forwarded to the GM Melissa who I had to leave a message for explaining my frustration and still no call back. If you are looking for customer service or professionalism look for another Tree service. The only reason Homer is getting a 2 is that I have had them do work prior and there workers work hard and are professional which I cannot say the same for management. read more

OK, so after my last review I was finally able to get in contact with the person who originally came out to estimate our job (Brett) and he was honestly appalled at the way this whole thing had gone. From that time on, he set, kept and exceeded our expectations, which were obviously quite low I'll admit, and the job is now complete! Ultimately I am quite satisfied with the work provided and feel as though Homer is still the best choice when the need arises in the southern suburbs for quality arbor work, but think that it's a shame that they have such a poor office and secretarial staff. I am scheduled to use them again in the spring ~ hoping things are back on track for good! read more

I have emailed Homer Tree Care on 4 or 5 occasions since the beginning of the summer in 2014 and they still have not taken care of my diseased tree. I'm always told that someone will be out within 2 weeks to take a look at my tree but no one ever comes. The last time I contacted them, the arborist was supposed to come that day. This was over 2 weeks ago and I still haven't heard anything. They are too busy for residential business but they keep giving false promises to you. We had three dead trees we needed removed (my house backs up to a tollway barrier/wall, the arborist believes they sprayed herbicide excessively, but that's for another review). They came out within a week for a quote, price was very reasonable (had 2 other quotes-one was unreasonable) and they came out under ten days once we accepted the work. Homer Tree Service is an absolute nightmare ! I had an emergency this weekend where almost 500 lbs of branches broke off of an old Walnut tree that over hangs over my home and is on the neighbors property line. Ivan came to my home pretty quick and could not remove the branches, b/c no crews available. So, he roped off the branches so they would not crash into my home. Sounds nice right? Well here we go. Ivan portrayed himself as field staff and showed up for my emergency. Ivan proceeded to inform me and my brother(thankful I had a witness present) that the office would be in contact with me to provide me with a schedule for the next business day (b/c Ivan was booked the following week). Ivan also informed my brother and I that he did not do work orders or quotes, but estimated a $ range for the job. Again Ivan informed us that the office will handle the work order and the scheduling of service for the next business day. I called the office the next day, they had no knowledge of my emergency. I called back, and all of a sudden a crew was on there way to my home. No one was home during that time. I received no advance warning and as far as the bill is concerned, no one provided me with an estimate or bill for service. They left tree debri all over my yard and deck. We specifically asked them to NOT remove the branches, that we would take care of the hauling away to save on costs. They removed the branches anyway. Ready for the WORST of this nightmare? I have repeatedly called their offices asking for a bill or at least a work order. I spoke to Jim Reiten, Director of Operations who spoke to me with extreme BELIGERENCE telling me what an awful person I am for allowing the service to be provided. I again asked for a bill and a work order. I am trying to pay this company and no one will provide me with a bill or work order for their services. Sounds very bizarre and fishy right. Ivan then started calling and completely fabricating the series of events and portraying himself as a Supervisor or Salesman and demanding payment. Payment for what?? No one has provided me with a work order or bill as of yet. It seems to me this company is trying either not record evidence of this service on their financial books and looking for an under the table deal. Or there is some legal issue with Ivan maybe not being licensed to perform this work. STAY FAR AWAY FROM HOMER TREE SERVICES!! read more
