Amazing response after August's derecho in New Lenox. Our prize 45+ year old massive linden tree was twisted by the wind and the trunk was split in half. At risk of falling on the house in the next storm, and unable to be climbed due to the precarious nature of the damage, Homer Tree showed up with 4 trucks and a master crew who used a crane and bucket truck to safely saw through the trunk and lift the entire canopy out in two enormous sections, which went right into the chipper. They cut out the rest of the trunk, ground down the stump and the last guy on site used a rake to pick up every last stick and leaf. 45 minutes of extraordinary professionalism. These guys know their stuff. We were extremely sad to lose our amazing, beloved tree but glad we didn't have to worry about or home or property being damaged by inexpert removal. And we were very pleased with the pricing and response time, especially after a disastrous weather event. We heard some outrageous price-gouging quotes. Good to know the local guys are there for the community. read more

Signed a contract with Homer Tree Care on June 10th for both tree injection and pruning. The injection was completed in July, but the pruning was never completed. I completely understand that weather and storms can cause delays, especially with the number of storms we've had recently. However, the bigger issue has been the lack of communication. I never received any updates and had to repeatedly reach out myself for information. The office staff has been difficult to deal with and often comes across as dismissive. When I called today for an update, I was told the pruning was being looked at to be scheduled in October. I questioned the timing and decided to cancel. The tree has already started to shed since fall is around the corner. I want to be fair because I understand that weather related emergencies can and should take priority. My frustration is that there has been zero proactive communication throughout this process. These services aren't inexpensive, and as a customer, I shouldn't have to repeatedly call just to find out what is happening with a service I contracted and paid for months ago. Kayli was amazing and was very apologetic and helpful when I was able to communicate with her via email. Unfortunately, the office staff who answers the main line really tarnishes the overall experience with the company. read more

I called about a large tree branch laying on my garage on July 6. I received and accepted the proposal on the 9th. Never heard another word from them. I called on July 26th and was told they'd be here at the end of August. On September 2nd I called again and was told they'd find out from the scheduling dept what's going on. Customer service wasn't a bit sympathetic. I never heard back. I've had a few years of good service before this. Might have to find someone else because the branch is wearing holes in the roof! read more

My home backs up to a farm. I had a couple trees behind my fence. They were a pain to keep trimming. I called Homer tree care and scheduled an appointment to have them cut diwn.. Price was reasonable and they did a great job.!! Thanks! read more

I have used Homer a few times to trim my tree and recommend them to others looking for tree services. They're reasonable priced and quick to quote and get me scheduled. I really like that they have the integrity of your tree in mind. I have a large white pine that I get trimmed every few years. I wanted quite a bit trimmed off and the estimator let me know that trees like this pine don't like to be trimmed very much as they will start to die and suggested to me the most they could do without harming the tree. I appreciate they told me that instead of just do it as much as I wanted because I would hate to lose it due to over-trimming. I also like that they got the job done quickly and there was no mess left behind. read more

Home Tree has come a long way since I tried to reach out to them almost 10 years ago. This company is the real deal now. About as professional as any company can possibly be. They respond to communication via both phone and email (rare even in these modern times). And crews show up on site and take care of business without having to have their hands held. Late last year I called to have a tree taken down. I was literally in my office that faces the tree, and only noticed a guy at the top of my tree (as tall as a 3 story house) when he started up his chainsaw. Heard that sound, looked outside, and saw an entire crew with a ton of equipment. 30minutes later, tree and crew were gone! read more

Can't say enough good things about this company. We planted two 2 ft. tall Blue Spruce trees 34 years ago and everything was going fine for 31 years. Three years ago, now about 30 feet tall, they started dying almost overnight. We called Homer and they started working on them. Now, three years later, they are healthy again, lots of new growth and looking good. We thought we were going to lose them which would have been heartbreaking. The guys that come out are all very knowledgeable and friendly. They explain what they are doing and what to expect. They come out about four times a season and whatever they are doing it has saved these two beautiful trees. We couldn't be happier with the service, the crew, and the results. Five stars only because we couldn't give them more. read more

Oversold with VERY poor post sale communication. Many times, you are surprised the day they arrive because they fail to tell you the process. The actual work team is a mixed bag. Some are exceedingly lazy and do things half way, whereas, others are more courteous and should lead the team. Had to push the cutting crew to do the job properly per our agreement and literally almost kicked them off the property before they actually did the work right (e.g. cut the tree to the top of the ground and not a foot from the ground level). Perhaps overconfident in business? I recommend others who would appreciate your business more. read more

Had to have an evergreen taken down due to a fungus. Very pleasant company to deal with from the friendly ladies that answer the phones to the crew who took down the tree. I would highly recommend this company - 2 thumbs up! Bernadette Hetman read more

I just saw Homer doing an excellent, fast, and safe job today. A huge tree branch hit our garage. We had no worries.

Jim was the best. They cut down the tree and removed it super fast. I will only use Homer tree service for all my needs.

I had the pleasure of having Homer Tree Service remove a fairly large tree from my property. It was over our new gazebo and required expert workmanship. This crew did an AMAZING job! Each worker had his job and they worked like a well organized orchestra! When they left, there was not a branch, leaf, stump or unacceptable amount of wood chips! They were quick, efficient, professional and very pleasant. If you are looking for a first class operation with HIGHLY Competitive prices, (keeping in mind that you get exactly what you pay for,) I HIGHLY recommend Homer Tree Service. I cannot be happier with my choice of their company!! Top notch equipment, workers, support staff and great ownership!! Thank you, Homer Tree Service!! read more

Had them remove a tree and grind out a stump. They cut through our inground sprinkler line. No one told. When the system ran flooded our yard. Then when I called to ask how they were going to fix I was told it was my fault. I didn't notify that the tree was on top of the pipe. I have no idea where the pipes are. After speaking to my sprinkler they also stated it's difficult to tell where the pipes unless it is next to a sprinkler head which it is not. Manager from Homer was suppose to call me back. No call back. They are taking no responsibility to fix it. They didn't even have the balls to knock on my door and tell they broke the line. I'll never use them again! read more

We scheduled work in the fall to be done during dormant season. They forgot about us and scrambled to get it done in April. They came on a Saturday without my prior knowledge. Luckily, I was home but they didn't bother to ask if I was satisfied. When I mentioned a few other branches that needed to be done, they said sorry we are all packed up. Turns out they did a cash deal for my neighbor and we're more concerned about that job. I emailed the office but they never responded. I'll never use Homer again! read more

I would 100% recommended Homer. They came out at a very devistating time when a tree crushed the house. They took the emergency call and came with cranes getting straight to work within hours. Jim and Becca worked tirelessly calling ComEd to make sure this job was done. A second emergency tree fall (another tree) happened in the meantime. I called Jim (who gives his cell phone number) in the middle of the night and he had a crew here in hours again. I can't even put into words how thankful I am for their professionalism and dependablilty. They left the property cleaned of all debri. Jim is definitely a very stand up trustworthy contractor. I would love to be able to review their ability to cut down a tree and haul it away, but since I have been calling for three months and can't get somebody to actually come out to our house all I can do is rate their customer service. It is horrible. I started calling in June to have several trees removed from our property. They said someone would be out in two weeks. After a month I called back and they said it would be two more weeks because of storms. So I waited. In September I started calling more frequently. I would hear that they were coming in 3-4 days, they are coming this afternoon, I will call you back and tell you when they are coming. Still nothing. If you aren't coming, don't tell me you are. read more

We always used Homer Tree Service at our Orland Park home and recently moved into a townhome with a lot of mature trees. We have a honey locust in front of our window that was not being pruned properly by the HOA vendor and was hanging over the house, dead branches, etc. They had four men here within a week and cleaned it up perfectly, allowing the tree to grow in a healthy manner. They have the knowledge and equipment to do their job right. Really great service, all around. read more

Homer Tree Care's crew did an awesome job removing our 3 huge trees! We much appreciated the expedited service as well! Watching them was like watching a well-oiled machine! Best service ever, reasonably priced and TOTALLY PROFESSIONAL. Don't mess with fly by night companies. Cannot believe how quick the tree was removed. They also cleaned up nicely. Highly recommend! read more

We had contracted with Homer Tree Service after they were the most economical of the three estimates we had acquired. Yesterday, Homer Tree Service came and removed two large trees from our backyard (one was a giant old blue spruce), including grinding out the stumps. Then they trimmed a very old elm tree and a huge old oak further back in the yard. The work was professionally done, and our yard was raked and cleaned up after all was completed. We were quite impressed, actually, and would not hesitate to hire this company. read more

Horrible. It took them nearly 6 months to come out and supposedly trim two of my trees. They only trimmed the one and charged me for BOTH!! Unfortunately, I was at work when they came out. I actually forgot, because it had taken so long for them to actually "get it done". Then I wait six more months before I even get my first bill. I contacted them and let them know, with pictures... That only one tree had been pruned. Four months later they sent me another invoice for both trees. I refused to pay, my boyfriend ended up trimming the other one, because it was touching my neighbors house. I would've had no problem paying for the one tree. But the harassment of the last email from Jim R, that I just received today ...was the curtain call. Now they are threatening to send me to collections. Maybe learn how to run your business properly, before you decide to throw someone into the collection bin. No wonder your business is suffering. That's poor business, and you shouldn't charge someone for some thing that you never did. And then harass them months and months later. Get on top of it, or you will lose your business all together. I would not recommend them at all. So sad. read more

Never have I heard of a tree company charging extra to haul away the mulch from the tree they were hired to remove at the price they charge. Especially when they sell mulch. Then, instead of leaving the pile on the driveway, they leave it in the middle of the lawn to kill the grass. So unprofessional. Last company I used charged half the price and hauled everything, and they don't sell mulch. Never again. read more

Ivan and the crew were OUTSTANDING. Respectful and hard working. Cleaned up and even placed extra soil/restored sod into divots where tree branch fell. I couldn't have asked for a better tree removal company--and their price was reasonable. Thank you so much! Marie Glen Ellyn read more

Homer Tree Service removed a tree fro my neighbor's yard today, but had to work from my yard to get at it. I want to compliment them for their professionalism and courtesy. When they were done my yard was perhaps better than when they started; everything removed and all the tree branches and sections of the trunk gone. Excellent work. read more

I had homer take down 2 trees six months ago. It was 700, and they agreed to grind the stumps as well. They came on the day, but never contacted me before hand. They also didn't grind the stump in the backyard because they couldn't get the grinder into the backyard. I emailed homer to ask about an adjustment, but never got a reply. 6 months later I come home to the stump ground down, tracks through my muddy yard, and a bent chain link fence. The very next day a bill came. When I explained what had happened, they simply stated it happens sometimes. I will never use them again. Here's the actual reply: " I agree with  you on the stumps and I really apologize for that.  I would be upset also.  I wish every job would go smooth but with the amount of work we have, unfortunately there's going to be a wrongdoing every so often even though we strive for perfection.  Thank you for being so nice about the situation and I do hope you call us for any future tree needs and give us another chance." Can you believe that? read more

I highly recommend homer tree service! There prices were the most reasonable and they were very professional!

I called Homer Tree Service in April 2014 to trim 5 old oaks. I was told they are six weeks behind in scheduling. After several emails and calls finally I was told late fall. Now here we are December 2014 and finally they schedule. I took the day off work to be here and they don't show up. Really!!!! Eight months to wait and no show. I called the office and was told SORRY they can reschedule. Bad just bad so disappointed read more

It has been a month since I began calling Homer Tree service for assistance after the storm hit Morris with my street sustaining severe damage. I have had 2 no call no shows and multiple no contacts from an arborist. I was then forwarded to the GM Melissa who I had to leave a message for explaining my frustration and still no call back. If you are looking for customer service or professionalism look for another Tree service. The only reason Homer is getting a 2 is that I have had them do work prior and there workers work hard and are professional which I cannot say the same for management. read more

OK, so after my last review I was finally able to get in contact with the person who originally came out to estimate our job (Brett) and he was honestly appalled at the way this whole thing had gone. From that time on, he set, kept and exceeded our expectations, which were obviously quite low I'll admit, and the job is now complete! Ultimately I am quite satisfied with the work provided and feel as though Homer is still the best choice when the need arises in the southern suburbs for quality arbor work, but think that it's a shame that they have such a poor office and secretarial staff. I am scheduled to use them again in the spring ~ hoping things are back on track for good! read more
