After Len passed away and it sold, it's not the same. Not using enough fertilizer and weed killer.

I recently scheduled an estimate, and then several days after agreeing to come out for the estimate, Lawn-Tech contacted me and said they were no longer interested due to where I was located. I was about 1 mile outside of the boundary. While I understand that businesses like this need to have defined service areas, it is bad business to not check this before agreeing to come out for an estimate. If you agree to come for an estimate and then several days later realize I am just outside of your service area, any decent business would keep that appointment. To top it off, when I replied to ask if they recommended another company that would service my area, Lawn-Tech completely ignored my email. Ultimately, I likely dodged a bullet here, given the really poor overall reviews of this business. read more

Lawn-Tech has been taking care of my lawn for 7 years. They do a fantastic job. They are prompt and courteous. My lawn always looks good thanks to them. I'm glad that I can pay a local company that has been around for years. They provide a good value for the services. They leave hand written notes with comments on what services were performed. They also leave recommendations in terms of any maintenance I might have to do to fix issues related to the lawn. If I have issues they are quick to come out and take care of them. Don't forget they do lawn aeration as well. I would recommend them to anyone that needs this type of service. read more

We had lawn tech for about four or five years and at the beginning, they were fantastic, enough that we even tried to recommend them to other relatives (we ourselves were referred to them from my in-laws). But slowly we started to see the cracks in their poor management. Weeds that never made it through their treatment in previous years started popping up in our lawn. Applications weren't as routine/period of as before. They stopped taking on new customers, and as of today, they stopped servicing long time customers in neighboring towns. Unless you live in Tinley Park, find someone, anyone else. It's a shadow of what it used to be, and even if we end up moving to Tinley, I don't think I'd give them my money again. Update: another family friend said they too were dropped by Lawn-tech, however, another person she knows also in the area has not yet received a text dropping them. The company apparently just has too many customers. Don't even bother calling to try and set up with them, the quality of service has declined and now their service area has considerably shrunk. We've been told to try a competitor, Letterman, instead for the former level of quality and service that Lawn-tech once had. Put this company in the same category as Tru-Green now, avoid at all costs. read more

I tried other services in the past, and lawn Tech is the best . I do water when needed, and follow turf tips like having a sharpie blade , not cutting too short and not watering at night.I have recommended 4 neighbors to lawn tech . All lawns look great and they are happy. Mine probably the best because I water when needed , and they don't. They folks are fantastic. Family owned business that has been servicing my lawn for 15 years now? They are a low maintenance service that my lawn desperately needs. The use organic materials to treat the lawn, and they come out quarterly. One time, the service man came into the back yard with his spreader loaded and ready and he saw that we were having a little get together in the back yard. Very kindly said he would just come back another day. Great folks and service. I highly recommend them. read more

After 2 years with Spring Green and having horrible results for my lawn and even worse customer service I switched today Lawn Tech. First season and my lawn is thick Green and weed free. My front lawn had some really bad areas. Nothing helped to bring it back. Lawn-Tech was responsive and assured us it was not caused by insects or disease. "Out of the goodness of his heart" I quote, Len Gallagher from Lawn-Tech hand spread seed on the affected area. That was really great until it grew and was different grass from the rest of the lawn. We called Mr. Gallagher back. He reminded us he seeded "out of the goodness of his heart". We asked for one free application and he agreed and we then found out it was going to cost $500 to have a landscaper dig out the bad grass and resod. We previously thought it would cost $200. We were wrong. There was no other way to fix the problem and the wrong grass was spreading. We informed Lane and Kate asked us to send the bill to them and she would discuss it with her father Mark. Shortly after we sent the bill and a photo of the lawn, the technician was in the neighborhood doing applications and skipped our lawn. We asked why and he said he was instructed to stop servicing us. Wow! No phone call, no notification, no negotiation (we at no time ever asked them to pay the whole bill). They sent us a check for $200. Our lawn was ruined by them and they dropped us as a customer without notification. As Mark told us on the phone, "you win some, you lose some". They probably did us a favor. We are happy with our new service. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I used them to service my lawn for weed control and they killed very large areas of my grass after the first session. After speaking with Len Gallagher I was told I would be reimbursed for the charges to repair my lawn, but upon forwarding the bill to Len, he is refusing to pay. I have been using their service for about 5-years now. Regardless of all the claims, this is a very economical service, perhaps half the price or less compared to TruGreen. That said, you get exactly what you pay for. My lawn using this service always looks worse than my next door neighbor who uses TruGreen. The only times my lawn has looked better than the neighbor is when I put down Scott's Fertilizer. Having said that, I know my lawn is not the problem, nor is it a watering issue after so many seasons of using their service. Lawn-Tech has very good grub, crab grass and weed control. Their fertilizer is the deal breaker...either low quality, insufficient amounts being dispersed, or perhaps some other reason. It does very little to make my lawn look as if it is professionally maintained. Their staff is very nice and they are great people to do business with. No complaints. However, I rather pay a lot more money and have a fantastic looking lawn like the neighbor than to pay a lot less and have a mediocre looking lawn. This will be my last year with Lawn-Tech, but I do recommend them if you are on a tight budget. read more

I sought out a quote from Lawn-Tech after my customer service debacle with TruGreen. I submitted the request online and within 2 business days someone had come out and delivered a written quote to my door. Lawn-Tech's quote was about $10 cheaper than TruGreen on a per treatment basis. (Lawn-Tech does 4 treatments, TruGreen does $5) When I called to inquire about how their service works, compared to TruGreen, and start service the woman I spoke with was extremely nice and helpful and answered all my ridiculous I-know-nothing-about-lawn-care-and-maintenance questions. I went ahead and started service. Payment is due within 30 days of each treatment, but they do offer an option to pay up front. I was given the name of our tech and told her would be there within a week, possibily as early as tomorrow. I can't speak for the treatment (though I will updated my review once I can) since they haven't been out to the house yet, but from a customer service standpoint, they are outstanding so far! read more

Don't Prepay!!! I had Lawn Tech's service in 2013 for the first time. They were pretty good. They came out on time and the lawn was looking very nice...then I made the mistake of pre-paying them for 2014 and the service went to the dogs! The lady that answers the phone for them was very rude as I repeatedly asked her when were they coming to apply the first application. It was May and all she kept saying was...next week or they haven't had time to get there yet. Well, I eventually cancelled them and requested a full refund of my money and hired another organization. Unfortunately because the pre emergent for crab grass was never put on the lawn this year, I have crab grass all over my lawn! ugh! I would definitely not recommend them as a company due to the gross inconsistency and whatever you do, Don't Prepay Them! read more

They're priced just right and offer a scope of services that includes an arborist. The arborist came out, evaluated all of our trees and gave us honest feedback. Insight that didn't Include a purchase recommendation (which made me trust him all the more). Eventually did hire them for a weed and feed. It's been a strange summer and my lawn looked like it needed help. Finished the entire project for something that mirrored the price of a bag of Scotts. Very eager to give me a quote and follow with empty promises. Emailed "customer service" (that's a joke). Got a quick response telling me my "invoice was printed and my lawn would be serviced "ANY DAY". Well a week later, no service, no communication and a lawn with an increasing amount of weeds. Went with them on a recommendation from a neighbor and because they weren't the cheapest so I figured I was buying a higher level of service. I have had Lawn-Tech for the last 5-6 years. When they first began the lawn was beautiful. The last two years, we have had terrible dollar spot and kept following the technicians recommendations and throwing more money into our lawn. We followed his watering recommendations and we have had no improvement. The technician, Mark was very rude and tried to make excuses for the dollar spot, stating everyone has dollar spot. No! Everyone in the neighborhood does NOT have dollar spot ... only the lawns he's been servicing. Do not lose your lawn to these people!!! read more

I have been using Lawn-Tech for at least 30 years and would never even consider any other company. The customer service people are fantastic. They leave information tips in the door about the condition of my lawn and what to do to make it better. Turf Tips is awesome. They deep feed my trees and shrubs every spring and they're cheaper than anyone else around. They are also the only lawn care truck on my entire block! Now that really says something. The drivers/workers are always polite and courteous. The prepay feature saves you from having to remember another payment.The owner himself has come to my house on several occasions to help with a problem. I have been a customer of Lawn-Tech for over 24 years now. I have recommended them to many of my neighbors and many have signed on for service. The cost is reasonable. The technicians that come out are helpful and will call the day before they come out if you give them your phone number, in case you need to pick up your pet or children's toys. The only time that I had a problem with them was when there was a leaky sprayer on equipment that was used, which ended up killing some small patches of grass. But when I called Lawn-Tech, someone came out to evaluate and the area was repaired without cost to me(except for the extra watering needed to regrow the grass). If you are having a problem, they will send someone out to take care of it. I have used their Pre-Pay several times and have always had success with it. It includes a discount when prepaying and then you don't have to worry about sending in your payment after each treatment. When I signed up for a core aeration and then did not use it, they applied the money towards my bill and did not have any problems getting this done. I would recommend this company to anyone. If you follow the instructions given with the bill, your grass should be beautiful and problem free. read more

We used Tru-Green for a while, but stopped a few years ago when the quality wasn't there anymore and they tried to sell me everything under the sun. We tried maintaining the lawn ourselves but didn't do a good job and by this spring it was nothing short of a hot mess with more weeds than grass. After reading reviews on Lawn-Tech, we decided to give them a try. I could not be more impressed! From the first contact requesting a free estimate, to the thorough analysis of our lawn, to the service received, everyone has been extremely knowledgeable and kind. And I cannot believe the difference in my lawn after only one treatment! I thought it would take a solid year to make it look good again but they have it green and weed-free already just a month after the first treatment. Highly, highly recommend. Very disappointed in this company. The customer service is overall very poor. I repeatedly called to see when I would be getting my first application and was repeatedly given the "run-around" blaming the weather. Finally, when dandelions started popping up, I called to cancel my service. When I called to cancel, the person who answered the phone asked why and I told her because of the poor customer service. Long time customer with a disappointing ending. Not happy about the quality of service I've received in the recent years. I can see my grass getting worse in health, not better. In all fairness, I will admit I might not be watering when needed, however, I have the same service at home with irrigation and can tell when I need to water and this damage is not from that. I was poorly treated in the spring and had problems with weeds, thinning and quack grass. They needed to retreat and I was not told of that visit or that I "HAVE" to water after or my grass will brown-out. I asked for a review of the condition and got a little hot with the tech... I told him I was pissed that I pay for this lawn to look better than my neighbors and their property looks better from doing nothing at all. I felt is we in my rights to mention Lawn Tech F*cked up my property. Well I guess that now means Mark doesn't have to compensate me for my property damage because I have a colorful vocabulary. You can kill my lawn with your inefficient service providers not doing their job well, but you can't take the fall-out from a customer that's upset over their property damage. Mark, you owe me a new lawn on my parkway. If you see this any other way please feel free to correct me. And you could start with listening to your complaint instead of stopping at the word F*ck! And I might add... If you did your job well, you wouldn't be the recipient of those words. read more

They fertilized new seed and sod last year...in the middle of August...fried my whole backyard. Also, when they were fertilizing, they sprayed my whole patio with the fertilizer: had to clean it off before my daughter went walking on it. Had them come back out, to review how they torched my backyard, they said that their fertilizer was "special", and would not burn seed or new sod. I must have been hallucinating that I had rainbow stripes in my backyard. Told all the neighbors and friends to change their lawncare provider due to Lawn Tech's negligence. read more

i called to speak with a manager and the woman told me her name was lain, she was very rude and offered no solution to my complaint. anyway, i called regarding the employees being out and working in the rain. i've heard great things about this company but the way they have their employees out in these conditions is not right. i'm not sure if they have a quota or what not but i'm sure they can afford to call their employees in out of the rain. i've seen these poor men out in the pouring rain multiple times with this being the first time i've complained. she thinks it's fine since she gets to sit in an office and not worry about getting rained on. extremely poor care for the employees read more

I had the exact same experience as Karen S. in Homewood. I contracted with these folks for three years, opting to give a local provider my business as opposed to the large national chain I was with previously, TruGreen. Yes, Law-Tech is a little less expensive, but in this instance it is definitely a case of "you get what you pay for." The first year was not bad. The lawn looked half way descent. But, in years two and three, for which I paid in advance, service deteriorated. I don't believe to this day that they did the number of applications paid for. My lawn looked awful and was overtaken by crab grass. Much like Karen S., I had nothing but difficulty when phoning their offices. The woman who answers the phone could not be ruder. So, it is back to TruGreen I go. Both I and my lawn will be much happier making the switch. Lawn-Tech now claims that they no longer service my area. Just as well, TruGreen is located in Crestwood which is about equidistant from my home and they have no problem servicing my area. read more
