Are the technicians incompetent or just lying to gauge customers?…read more I visited this location #201 on May 26 for a routine oil change. During the inspection, Kait (unsure of his full name) claimed that my brake pads were dangerously thin and needed immediate replacement. I told him I had no braking issues, and my car had not shown any warning lights. He dismissed that and warned me that if I did not change them within the week, I might face brake failure. This is a serious claim. I asked for a quote but also mentioned that I wanted a second opinion since I am not a car guy. He then doubled down on the scare tactics and urged me to act fast to avoid an accident. After work, I went to a friend's place who knows cars. He checked my front and rear brake pads thoroughly, had me turn the wheel for a better view, and confirmed that I had at least 30 to 40% pad life remaining. That is a massive difference from being told I could crash within a week due to break failure. Either this technician does not know how to assess brake wear properly, or worse, he deliberately exaggerated the issue to push an unnecessary sale. Other guys at that location have been very nice and that's why I kept going back to the same location.

I was shocked when they told me I needed to pay $260 more dollars to flush and refill the transmission. I called my mechanic and they said, don't do it, they're probably trying to upsell you. I took my car to my mechanic and the transmission was absolutely fine, and the fluid was not even low. Thankfully I dodged a bullet and didn't pay to have my perfectly running transmission "fixed". Lesson learned, never trust Mr. Lube!

    1) Upsell Through Misrepresentation of Services…read more I came in for an oil change. Upon arrival, the staff tells me that there is sludge on the oil tank cap. He tells me that it is necessary for him to flush the engine before he is able to proceed. I say okay and was ushered back into my car. Within a minute, I go back out and ask the staff to not proceed with the flush. The staff says that he had already flushed the engine and that there was nothing he could do about it now. During the rest of the service, I ask more questions about the legitimacy of the service and the staff member tells me that the internet cannot be trusted. I then call the Vancouver Volkswagen dealership and confirmed my last oil change service date I did with them as well as mileage. The Volkswagen dealership relays that given the time and mileage between the oil change, that sludge formation was highly improbable and that if that was in fact the situation, that that would indicate a severe problem with the engine. I asked the staff if there was anything wrong with the engine, to which he says no. I argue that given the information provided that a flush was unnecessarily and that the staff had either misdiagnosed or mispresented the situation and service needed. The staff refused to acknowledge any wrongdoing. 2) Repeated refusals to honor agreed upon solutions Following the issues mentioned above, I spoke with the manager and he told me that he would refund the amount for the engine flush. He said that he would speak to his supervisor and that the refund will be processed the next day. The next day, I called back and the manager said that he could only refund half of the amount back. I was reluctant to the refund amount but agreed. Following the call, I posted a review on Google illustrating the interactions above. Half an hour later, the manager calls back and says "I saw your review on Google, no more refund for you", dishonoring yet another refund agreement.
