I stopped in on Sunday, because not many salons are open on Sunday. I came here years ago, and couldn't remember why I didn't come back...until I did. I needed just a simple manicure - no gel, just shape, cuticles and polish. The charge? $20. It took 20 minutes for my manicure. Then they ADDED a .60 cash "DISCOUNT" - with tip, $25. I would never have paid that much had I known...but the prices are not on the wall and they also don't post their 3% cash DISCOUNT... Worst possible nail salon if you can even call it that. I came in to get a manicure but had gel polish on that needed to be removed. The girl (don't know her name but she was at station number 4) didn't know how to properly take off gel polish. First, she didn't file the top coat so the acetone couldn't get through to the color. Then she tried scraping the gel off even though the color wasn't lifted. When I saw this and the state of my nails after she destroyed them, I told her I didn't want the manicure anymore and that I would just pay for the gel "removal." They charged me $20!!! WTf?! Dip powder starting cracking THE NEXT DAY! Went here because I've been trying to find a good spot in Rahway for dip powder. I usually make sure they use SNS but I figured I'd give them a go. The experience was fine. And I walked out feeling good about how my nails looked (tech even took a pic!). I also got a pedicure which was standard, nothing to rave about (see below about how that came out). Literally, the next day, I started to see cracks in my nails. The day after, the chipping started. I forget what brand they used, but it's crappy! Not only did they crack and chip, but my nail underneath is now weaker than before. I've been doing dip/SNS for about 5 months now and they were growing so much and have become so strong that it was getting ridiculous how long my natural nails were growing. After this set, they are now stubs. I wanted to be hopeful, but I'll never return. My pedicures also usually last 4+weeks, even in the summer. I just went there and the service was simply awful! The lady that did my nails was a woman with a tattoo on her right arm. The tattoo was a heartbeat. She was rude. She pushed my hands when I tried to observe her work and she repeatedly yelled at me in a condescending tone. She painted my nails and left a messy, incomplete job undone. I needed an emergency color change and this is one of the few salons open on Sunday. I've been a patron here before and find the results of a manicure to be pretty consistent no matter who does them. The young lady who worked on my pedicure seemed to be carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. I tried to break the ice and lighten her mood but she made no shift. Needless to say, I didn't get her name. The place had just opened when I got there so I dont think that she was overworked by that time. However, I don't pour her cereal in the morning. Extremely disappointed with my experience. I've gone to a nail salon in Carteret for years but my nail tech moved out of state so I was open to trying a new local place. I was in need of a fill in + gel polish + nail repair on both of my thumbs. The nail tech constantly complained of how she hates nail repairs. I found it odd but I just smiled. Well... multiple attempts to fix the nail failed. The gel literally melted off while my hand was under the UV light. I noticed the pink gel they used was some random brand that I've never seen before. Regardless... the tech was doing her best so I stayed patient. Over 2 hours later... I was left with 2 semi crooked thumb repairs. I was there for so long... I didn't care and just wanted to leave. For everything ... I was charged $54 bucks and I tipped $10. Which I don't think was warranted... but I did it anyway. Well the very next day... both thumbs snapped off (Sunday) They were poorly repaired! Monday I head back to have the two nails fixed again. I mean... I PAID to have them fixed the right way the first time and they were poorly done! I figured they would fix them again at no charge. Whelp... not the case. The owner tried charging me another $10 to fix their crappy work. It's not even about the money. The owner should have stood by her tech's work... and fix my nails at no charge! I had a pedicure here on a Saturday and it was so crowded they had me soak my feet for over an hour without telling me the wait would be so long. I would have come back if they had been honest. He then rushed down my pedicure and snipped the cuticle on my big toe as a result. I then brought my mother here on a Thursday figuring it would be better if it was less crowded. The girl "with over 20 years experience" claimed certain things just didn't need to be done like scrubbing the heel. When she was finished in about 20 minutes, the nails were still long and her heel was still cracked and white because she didn't even use lotion. Never again. I've been coming here for 4 years and the last two weeks I have experienced poor service like never before. Last week I was there for a regular manicure and a staff member that I had never seen before was handling my service. I requested a dark polish color and I should have realized when I saw the look of trepidation on his face that it wasn't going to go well. It was the worst polish job I have ever seen. Not just with the color, but he had to start over when another employee pointed out he didn't put a base coat on, then told me "everyone does it different." Then the color was incredibly sloppy and the top coat he didn't even try to pain just my nail. I didn't want to cause a scene and it was very busy so I paid and left. FFWD to today. I should have stayed away and gone to one of the other numerous salons in the area. But convinced it was just a one time fluke I returned. After waiting nearly an hour with my feet in tepid water, the girl I was slated to work with was held up and you guessed it, I got the guy from last week. My toe nails were cut crooked. The paint job was atrocious. He was so violent with the callous grater I honestly thought he was going to hurt me. Upon seeing my nails I requested he remove the polish and fix the crooked cutting. I had been there over 90 minutes at that point and was not going to wait for another staff member to take over. I requested to just pay for the job without polish and he attempted to charge me 25$ insisting that I said yes to the callous removal, which was completely false. He was "gracious" enough to only charge me 20. I was so completely flabbergasted at that point I paid and walked out. He followed me out and sarcastically told me "good luck finding a better salon." I informed him that in the 4 years I've been coming never have I experienced such poor service and poor customer service. Needless to say I will not be back.
