Kimm did my hair tonight and I loved it! I just moved to the area and was searching for a new salon close by. My hair was getting too long and my ends were damaged so I needed a cut badly. She listened to me and gave me excellent advice as to what would look best. She was very sweet. The salon was also very clean and covid protocols were in place. And don't listen to the posts who say they don't give 10% off. They do!! But didn't really need it. This place is so affordable (at least compared to NYC prices). I should have wrote this review back in June when I got my hair done, but it's taken a long time for me to come to terms with the results of my appointment. I came to Moda to get something like a balayage. I'm no expert but I knew what I wanted and explained to my dresser clearly. (After doing some research it turns out that I basically wanted a low, meaning that the color does not creep up too high on my head, pink balayage where the ends were completely pink.) I emphasized that I do not want the color up my hair too high since I work. My hair is black and I knew it takes a long time to lighten up dark hair. I emphasized that I want to go light enough for the pink to show so I'd do whatever it takes, including sacrificing the quality of my hair. My appointment was 11am and my dresser quickly started to apply the bleach. I have pretty thick hair that reaches my butt, so I was expecting the application process to at least be an hour or so. Nope. If sincerely felt as though my dresser slopped on bleach here and there throughout my head. She finished so fast that anyone could tell that she did not apply the coverage of bleach thoroughly after a mere 25 minutes. Even though I was skeptic I prepared to wait for the bleach to lighten my hair. It would have been fine as long as I got the color I wanted. Nope. My dresser washed the bleach out too soon and I was not light enough. I suggested going lighter but I got a quick response of "Its not going to look good, trust me." And something like I couldn't get lighter since she used 40V bleach. I know for a fact that bleach goes up to 80V...I really wanted to trust her. Later we went to make my color. I showed her a picture of the color I wanted, a lighter pink. She made a mix and started applying. Instead, I got bright red hair that reaches up to above my ears. The streaks are crooked and not at all remotely symmetrical between the left and right side of my head. And in many strands of my hair are splotches due to uneven bleaching. I've grown to deal with my hair but I am unable to even wear it straight because then the splotchiness would be so obvious. Other details: The atmosphere is quite nice, the new location is really clean and modern. It's safe to say that everybody was very friendly. I really liked the lady that washed my hair she was great to talk to and easy on my scalp, unlike my dresser. Also, she got bleach on the shirt I was wearing. I'm giving 1 star for the lady that washed my hair. 1 star for the friendly atmosphere. And 1 star for my dresser, though she failed she was nice. Her name is Heather. read more

I am writing this after my 3rd visit to Moda 330 and I dont know why I have waited this long to write this review! I take my haircut appointments with Kim usually, she is always booked in advance so I would suggest calling at least a week before you need it. Every single time ai have been there the staff is so warm and nice to be around! The salon is very clean ! And the most important thing is they know what they're doing. I used to do layers but had a very bad experience someplace else, so now I just do a straight cut in the back (I have long hair). This salon is close to my house. This Salon is by far "The Ultimate, Most Friendliest, Professional, Exquisite, Talented, Trending, & Exceptional over the Top most Hospitable Customer Service hair & make-up spot in NJ,," I've ever experienced in my life. Honestly, I wish I could give them 10 stars Sooo, I knew I was going to b in town from CA for my guy cousins wedding. Needed my hair & make-up formally done up, as I was in the wedding. Nervous not knowing anyone in NJ, I trusted my yelp instincts. I communicated via Yelp msg with Kim, the Owner, several weeks prior to wedding, she responded quickly (to include, every time I communicated with her- I got a quick answer or reply from Kim,) I simply told her what I wanted & needed, including sent picture ideas of hair & make up ideas I liked. She warningly reassured me multiple times that they were experts with this type of request. Their prices were incredibly less expensive than neighboring near-by salons. So we set a date & time for a Sunday. Extremely early Saturday AM, I fly into EWR from CA, jet lagged & exhausted, met with groom & bride, did last min wedding preparations, attended wedding rehearsal & dinner, the brides Mother announces confirmation that the wedding party needs to arrive no later than 11:30am for 12pm wedding. I panic bcuz original wedding time 4pm, hence original salon appt made for 11am, I never got the Email of time change. Panic mode: I yelp msg Kim at about 10pm night before wedding and she replies within minutes, I tell her my dilemma, she makes a couple of calls & shortly replies a new earlier appt time, she was so understanding and genuinely wanted to help me, I was able to breathe & relax. I called here last minute 4th of July weekend and was able to get an appt for same day. I usually go else where so this was my first time here. The salon is not high end or snooty or super brand new. But it is clean and everyone is super friendly and sweet. I saw Jill who made sure to bring over a picture similar to what I wanted to make sure we were on the same page. I was nervous but Jill did an amazing job. She took time once drying my hair to really perfect the short cut I got. The way she cut my hair makes it look as if I just got a cut everytime I blow it out. My hair doesn't take long to cut and blow out since it's fine but she still made sure to take her time and perfect the look and even took time to curl my hair at the end. Hands down the best salon I have ever gone to. Everyone is so nice and helpful; your questions or concerns never go unnoticed. They use and sell great high quality products and this is reflected in the work of their stylists. All of the stylists are amazing - you really can't go wrong with any of them. They keep track of all your visits and hair colors so that you never have any mix ups with the shades when you go for a touch up. Carly is an expert at intense coloring and curly hair. I've been seeing her for some time now, and I have not been happier. Her color recommendations are always on spot. She is always willing to work with me if I want to mix it up and play with a different shade of red in my hair. She also gave me great tips on maintaining the color in my hair until my next visit. Plus she does earlier appointments (like 8AM-ish) which is great since my process can be up to 2hrs long. It's nice getting it out of the way in the morning. They do take walk-ins, but I think it's always better if you make an appointment. I have always found it hard to find and keep a stylist in NJ, they seem to move around alot. Additionally, women's hair coloring and cutting is always so expensive - even more so when you have as much hair as I do. FYI: THEY DO NOT OFFER A 10% DISCOUNT AS STATED ON YELP. I found this salon on Yelp and I was informed of this at the register. That offer should be removed from the yelp page as it is very misleading. I came here for balayage and I unfortunately left with highlighted looking hair. I went in for a consultation prior and was very clear with what I wanted. I was disappointed by the end of my experience. I went in twice to get my balayage. The first time, my hair looked extremely highlighted so I had to call and ask that they darken my roots. I had hoped that this second visit would help make my hair look like it had balayage but honestly it doesn't and people think I have highlights. My hair is dry and a gray looking blondeI didn't want them to further damage my hair with more bleach so I left the salon, less unhappy with my hair but still not in love with it. The salon is great and the people are super nice, I just wish I had gotten the style I wanted. I'm bummed because I paid $200+ and I don't love my hair. I had high hopes that I would love my hair after my visit because the salon had such positive reviews and I was so excited. The only job I ever liked was done in Manhattan for over 400.00.. until now I can't believe I found someone in NJ that actually did a comparable job! I will back again and again. BTW I saw Carly.
