Despite complaining to management multiple times and they resetting/setting. Do more research on anyone who touches your hair. 2. Salon needs to stop calling people who look young sweetheart. I have gotten the Rezo cut for years and love it. I normally go to a trained atylist near my house. She was fully booked and I needed a cut for an event- so I came to Utopia. I regret that decision!! My stylist normally takes her time and shapes my hair as the cut is supposed to be executed. The stylist at Utopia took out a curved scissor - like the one used at pet grooming salons- and in 5 minutes cut my hair horizontally in big sections across my head. It was a disaster and took a long time to grow out and fix. Not ok!! I'm back to my stylist and back to getting compliments on my hair again! The Rezo cut is the best for curly hair and the founding salon should be doing it right instead of cutting corners. read more

Convenient with appointments on Saturdays and Sundays. It's a clean, good-sized and nice looking salon with ample parking and ample stylists. The stylists are well-skilled since trained by Rezo cut creator/salon owner. My stylists were also very nice and super friendly and I was very happy with the results. However, there seems to be a lot of turnover which makes me suspect. My color was not on file after having my last two cuts/color at the salon. I thought it was customary to have that history since the salon is tech savvy with upfront deposits, text confirmation, reminder and survey links. I also would have liked to see more stylists with curly styled hair. It was Saturday and a few look like they just threw their hair back (not good advertising). The prior stylist that gave me 2 cuts disappeared and I guess she can't correspond with me due to noncompete. While my new stylists were great, I fear there will be many new faces yet again the next time I go. Nice cut after my hair came out of shock - (too much product) but cut only lasted 3 months - last cut before this one was with Julissa and lasted 5 months. Not sure about the vibe - does not seem very popular anymore. Wish cut was less expensive if doing just a natural everyday curl that is easy to manage - quick and easy. I been going to Utopia Rezo Hair Salon on South Avenue in Westfield for four years. Felippe does a fantastic job of cutting and highlighting my short hair. I actually followed her from another salon, being so happy with her attention to detail and consistent results. Subsequent to my last visit, an unexplained and unauthorized debit of $92 appeared in our checking account, attributed to Utopia, (a week after my last visit). Since the salon was closed on Mondays, I called my bank and initiated a claim and canceled my debit card. When I called Utopia the next day, I was informed that they always charge half of a future appointment in advance. I have never heard of this practice before and they had never done it for previous appointments. I asked to speak to a manager; she was busy and never called back. After three more calls, I finally spoke to the manager who explained that it had always been their policy and I was "lucky" it hadn't occurred before. I insisted they back out the charge and asked them to offer a $50 offset for my next cut due to the unauthorized usage of my card and the inconvenience of having to cancel my debit card. She refused and said it was the owner's policy. I asked to speak to the owner and of course never received a callback. I informed the manager that they would lose a long term customer over this and she continued to say there was nothing she could do. Fortunately, I found another salon, Shear Precision in Scotch Plains, who cut and colored my hair for almost half the price Utopia charged. Every time I go here I am absolutely wowed by the result of my rezo cut. It gives me a full body and volume head of hair and I have extremely fine and thinning hair! Sahrita is fantastic and always asks what I am looking to do when I come in. She listens to everything and the end result is proof that she is a hair master. Literally every time I have told her right after the cut before she washes it that I love my cut already even in it's frizzy state. Then she washes and styles it and I kid you not it's the only hair salon I leave having my hair styled just how I like it and with my curls in tact! She never tries to push products on me which is so appreciated, but I do always try to see what she's using on my as they always smell and work great. My curly girls should not sleep on this salon. Do you have curly hair?!?! RUN, do not walk to Utopia! Don't waste another dollar or anymore of your time with another salon. I am THAT serious. I wish that I went to get my hair done there sooner than I finally did which was last week. I can't believe the difference in my curls! My stylist was Tina. I actually only went in for a consultation but she actually did have time to cut my hair so after we discussed what I wanted and we had a good convo about my hair I agreed to let her do my cut. Craziest hair cut (in a good way) I've ever gotten. When it came time to wash that's where I found out that I've basically been doing my hair 100% wrong my entire life. With Silvana, I relearned how to style my hair starting from the wash all the way through drying. I haven't washed my hair now in 5 days! True to Tina's word - my curls look just as good as they did in the salon! Trust me I am just as surprised as you are. I am going back in May to get my hair colored and I can't wait to see what Tina is going to do with my hair! I highly recommend Utopia - they obviously have the edge up with curls. If you've been thinking about giving them a try I can't say enough good things. Just go!! Price is similar to what I was paying at other salons for cut and color. What wasn't though - Tina's undivided attention while cutting my hair. She was not working on multiple clients at the same time. I was dealing with this elsewhere. Imma just have to say this salon is for loose curl textures, not for my tighter curls!! My expectations were high knowing that this is a curl expert salon. I have LOW porosity and deep density hair texture with lots of frizz. I really thought they were going to do some deep treatment, something I wouldn't be able to do at home. Y'all my hair was washed, regular conditioner (not deep conditioned), detangled, put this curling get she got from Ulta, then sat under the dryer for 10 minutes and diffused. I thought they're we gon use some special products yall. I literally could've bought that curl gel from Ulta and did that myself at home. My curls were SO DEFINED in the front of my hair cause they were LOOSE since the front of my hair had heat damage in the past. The back of my hair was more KINKY AND FRIZZY! When i left, my stylist said it would last a week. Now i knew that was a lie cause she didn't deep condition my hair, my hair NEEDS MOISTURE, it can't last on gel alone. she also said put it in a satin bonnet to keep the curls defined, I did that when I got home. WHEN I TELL YALL 6 HOURS LATER.... THE CURLS WERE GONE!!! LMFAOAOAOAO. I'm going to include pictures. But i learned my lesson, when you're a black woman and you walk into a salon and don't see not one black stylist, babyyy just go home. They're educated on curly hair but not educated enough, not everyone knows how to take care of kinky, coily, low porosity textured hair. I absolutely love my hair and will be returning. This was my first time trying any type of cut specifically for curls and at Utopia. I was nervous how it would come out because I've long hair all my life. Alyssa was my stylist and she was excellent. She thoroughly answered all my questions (and I had a lot because I'm new to learning my hair and hair in general). Utopia took Covid precautions such as keeping the door locked (you had to call in that you were outside and they would bring you 2 questionnaires to complete, spraying the bottom of your shoes, providing hand sanitizer, all staff and guests wearing masks, being socially distant and cleaning the surfaces of all chairs and resources used by guests. read more

Took my 11 yo daughter for the rezo cut and styling. I know we are only talking about hair, but Paula actually performed miracles. My daughter's hair was frizzy, matted and did nothing to show off her beautiful curls. The results after Paula performed her magic were literally transformative. I have never felt more satisfied with something I paid for in my life. $100 may seem crazy for an 11 yo, but washing and combing her matted hair was awful and brought tears to both of our eyes. Stay away from this place!!! They don't listen to anything you have to say. Once the owner has sizers in her hands forget everything she will do whatever she wants even though it's your hair. She doe not listen to her clients and when I asked her in person why she didn't do what I told her to she replied because I'm the best !!!! She is not the best she is the worst!!! Came to get a haircut by Nubia (the owner) because she claims she is a curly haircut expert. I told her I wanted to get a trim and defined my curls I also clearly stated that I did not want bangs. She told me she knows what's she's doing, as she was cutting my hair she was talking to so many people that were just standing around me, watching her cut my hair. After they washed my hair and diffused my hair, my hair looked horrible. I was so upset I went home to wash my hair from all the gel and oil they put in it. She also completely removed my length and gave me a short haircut that I did not ask for!!! Really upset with this!!! Don't go here!!! She is horrible and doesn't know what she is doing. She just wants to cut and cut and doesn't care what you ask for!!! Now I have to wait years to grow out my hair to what I had! This women should not be cutting hair!!! read more

Saturday was my third visit and unfortunately my last. Each time I've been given a different stylist. The first two experiences were fine. The cuts were good but not so much the styling. This last time was a total nightmare. I asked for a routine maintenance trim for the kids and I. I've been growing my son's hair since birth. Wet it was just past his shoulder blades. Now it barely touches his neck. The stylist gave him a tapered Mohawk type cut that I DID NOT ASK FOR. I clearly said a trim, which to me is 1/2" or 1" or less. I was able to do a top knot/ man bun on him and I can't anymore. The back and sides of his hair are so short I can't gather it to make a pony tail. When she was done I asked why it looked so short and she said it wasn't. That it was only the top. When I asked if he could still do a man bun she said yes but she was lying. I don't understand why stylist feel they can do whatever they want with hair that isn't theirs. Why ask what the client wants if you're going to do what you want. As for my hair, my stylist cut about 3"+! I was growing out my hair for my wedding next month. Finally at a length I was so happy with but needed a routine maintenance cut to upkeep single strand knots and any split ends. She gave my bangs, took most of my length and now my hair seems all uneven. No two strands are the same length, almost like a thinned our razor cut or something, It's awful. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. You'll get a different stylist each time who'll rush you off to an assistant. They'll butcher your hair, style it to their liking and just give you a pitiful "sorry". You can't call yourself curly specialist if that doesn't include kinky coily textures as well. Save yourself the heartache and find another place if you're looking to grow your hair long and curly. I'll be loading up on water and vitamins the next month hoping to grow an inch of the 3" I lost before my wedding in June. Thankfully they didn't do too bad with my daughter's hair. It seems like it's not uniform but at least they didn't take as much length as they did my son and I. This review is all I can do to feel better but I honestly wanted to punch someone in the face. Great experience! Alyssa was my stylist and she was amazing throughout the entire process. From booking, to then touching base with her to consult on exactly what services I was going to get, her listening and understanding what I needed, to giving her advise on how I should proceed best, then coming to the salon and actually having my appointment. I was more than 30 mins late due to traffic and she was so chill about it! Unheard of in the hair industry. She guided me through every step during my appointment, asked me questions to inform her process, and educated me every step of the way. I know a lot about natural curly hair and how to take care of it, but her knowledge about how to best care for my hair to achieve the everyday results I'm looking for were bar none. When I arrived at Utopia, I was so excited I had just taken out my box braids, and I was looking forward to getting my hair washed detangling and deep condition. so I booked it online and I thought that I had it all set up when I arrived, they were like you don't have an appointment. I've been researching to get a Devacut donE and finally landed on this place. I made an appointment with Lori for 12:30pm. I was a little put off at first because I didn't get called In until 12:50 however once I was in the chair, Lori was great. She explained all the tips in caring for my curls. I liked my experience here because they taught you every step of the way from how to wash your hair, how to distribute the gel, and diffusing. My curls came out awesome and I'm on day 3 and it still looks great! One thing I didn't love was that they no longer carry the devacurl products since the owner came out with her own line of products. Being that I came in for a Devacut, I would have liked to be recommended devacurl products. But I would def come back again. Everyone was very nice and I love my hair. read more

I had a great first time experience at Utopia Salon. I heard about Nubia (master stylist) from a youtuber and decided to give it a try. I have type 2A, 2B, 3A curls and have a lot of heat and chemical damage. My curls lacked volume and really needed a style. I live in Queens NY and the drive out there was worth the trip. I was running a half hour behind but they were super understanding and took me right away without making me feel bad for being late. Nubia was very sweet and sociable. She cut my hair dry and listened to what i wanted but also kept it realistic to what I could do with the current state of my hair. Someone else washed, styled and dried my hair. The assistant explained how i should style and care for my hair. Nubia came back to fluff and assess it. My hair looked great and i was so happy with how it turned out. . Nubia recommended some products and advice for re-styling for next day hair and so forth. I bought the diffuser and microfiber towel. That towel really works great. It soaks up a lot of the water which means you spend less time drying (less damage) I was there for about 2 hours. IT IS pricey (which is why i gave it 4stars) but I know had I gone to someone else I wouldnt of had the results I wanted. I have gone to Devacham and Ouidad salon in the past and this is by far the best hair cut experience. I'd give a higher review but - the price... is just so much. I get a trim and balayage (medium/fine hair, chest length) and it's $600 without tip. With tip, almost $700.
