Atmosphere: The atmosphere of Sofis is vivacious and fun, even at 9am when my appointment was. The only annoying thing was the parking. It is metered parking outside so definitely bring some quarters! Color: My color is amazing, I absolutely love it. I got the balyage which is a newer way of coloring. It took almost 3 hours to complete since it is a full head of painted highlights. My hair came out very blonde and didn't look streaky at all which I love. Cut: To be honest, I am not a huge fan of my cut. I brought a photo in of long layers in the "V" cut and asked for my hair to look that exact way, and I ended up with a very blunt cut with blunt layers. I wear my hair up mostly everyday or straight so the layers don't look weird. It's a shame because I have wavy/curly hair and this cut just does not work for my hair type. Service: The service started out ok, I was offered a coffee in the beginning, and there was light conversation, but as my service went on my stylist and the stylist next to me were gossiping about their lives and talking about their night out before which made me very uncomfortable. The gentleman in the front that greeted me was probably my favorite person there, he was so lively and energetic and brought a good energy and vibe into the place. Overall, I would come back for the color, but not the cut. read more

Today I picked up supplies from Sofi's Color Lounge to do my own color. My colorist, Lisa, personally came out and gave me some personal coloring advice as she dropped the bag into my car window. I was texted two videos to help me take care of my color myself. I was amazed when I got the email saying that they wanted to provide this complimentary service for their customers. I thought the gesture was incredibly generous. The people at Sofi's clearly understand how we need to feel as normal as possible under these current circumstances, and it is very difficult to feel normal when you don't look like yourself. I decided to try this salon because it came highly rated on yelp. I was very disappointed with my hair stylist. I felt like from the beginning she was dismissive and argumentative with me about what I wanted to do with my hair. I went in wanting to cut about four to six inches off my hair, which we did, but immediately when I showed her images she responded with "that's too short." I had told her I've had my hair that length before and was very happy with it, I just want to be sure I can still pull it back out of my face and then I'm happy to go as short as we need to achieve the look I'm interested in. We went back and forth like that several times through my cut. In the middle of it I asked her to take it up shorter and she was argumentative. She kept telling me what I was asking for isn't how she likes to cut hair. That she didn't want my hair to look choppy - which I wasn't asking for choppy hair. After she dried my hair I told her I wasn't happy with it and pointed out a few spots where it was too thick or heavy or long and she reluctantly went back to it - this time telling me she had another appointment after me and had to finish. At that point I was visibly frustrated and she asked me why. I told her I felt she was being argumentative because she didn't want to do what I was asking her to do. She lightened up and again explained that she doesn't like to cut hair a certain way and wanted my layers to be done the way she likes them. Which I can appreciate. I also feel that if she was uncomfortable with the style I was asking for she should have had someone else do my hair. She also should never have argued with me when I pointed out where my part is or explained certain things about the thickness of my hair etc. I understand stylists are getting frustrated with people wanting to look exactly like an image they bring in, I also understand that she cuts hair and I don't. But Ive had my hair my whole life. I understand how it works better than this person who's chair I was in for 5 minutes. I explained to her several times that I know I won't look exactly like the image and that I am not asking to. What I was asking for was to walk away happy with the look I have. In the end, my hair is uneven and I left frustrated. I had an idea of what I was going for and came out with something totally different. And I honestly feel like it's because this stylist didn't want to cut it the way I wanted it. A hair cut should be enjoyable. If a stylist has a preference for what she cuts and how she does it, that should be expressed before the appointment is booked. I'm new to this area and looking to find a stylist I enjoy working with and am disappointed that I didn't find one with this appointment. I might try the other location but honestly don't know if I trust it or not because the more that I think about it and look at my hair the more upset and frustrated I am. read more

Sofi's is a great addition to downtown Westfield. I have been using Alexis as my hairstylist for years and followed her here from her past salon. The decor is sleek and modern and the location is perfectly in the middle of downtown. The only issue is finding parking, but driving around is worth it for the complimentary mimosa provided with the hair service. The haircut has always been great, but now I can walk out with beautiful hair and an awesome salon experience. read more

I live in Cranford so I didn't have a reason to try their Westfield location - however, I did so on a whim because they had availability for a blowout one morning. The atmosphere is amazing, so let's start there. The decor, lighting, and artwork was just impeccable. Environment plays a big factor in an experience for me. The staff was friendly. I was seen immediately at the start of my appointment: 10am. They asked if I would like water or coffee, etc - very accommodating. I would recommend any of the Sofies locations to anyone!
