I get my hair cut by Charles and colored by Cindy. I would never go anywhere else. I got an awful cut many years ago and realized how important it is to find amazing talented people to provide these services. I will often just sit down in the chair and say "Do whatever you like. I trust you." That didn't come easily but I have complete trust in knowing they will do a fabulous job as they have for over twenty five years. You will never regret using this salon. read more

I have been going to this hair salon for more than 5 years. The service is outstanding and the quality of the professionals is fantastic. The owners previously ran the US and international divisions of large French hair salon top brands and they opened multiple salons in places like Monaco and New York. It's great that they have settled in Fanwood. I highly recommend. read more

It has been a very long time that I can honestly say..."I LOVE LOVE LOVE MY HAIRCUT." I was visiting my cousin from California and desperately needed a redo on my last haircut. My cousin referred to me to KATE and so happy that she had an availability. Kate did wonders to my hair. She gave my hair lots of body and shape with beautiful layers, which also framed my face beautifully. She exceeded my expectations. My straight fine Asian hair has been so dull and lifeless and all I have been doing to my hair daily is to up in a ponytail and that didn't every satisfy me. So ecstatic that it is no longer the case. I love the way that I can just wash and dry my hair daily with not much fuss. THANK YOU KATE! You got me. :) I'll definitely see Kate for a haircut whenever I'm visiting NJ read more

Charles is an artist, the staff is wonderful and makes you feel exceptional. Going back every few weeks !

I had a horrendous experience getting full highlights from Jeanine at this salon. It was taking ages while she tended to another client, by the time they washed out the bleach my hair had overprocessed and started falling out in the sink. She never apologized, told me I just didn't understand the process. It was humiliating, terrifying and something I am still living with for months. Then they had the nerve to charge me the full $85 for a haircut (I gently combed my own hair and refused to let them blow dry it). I beg you not to go to this salon, especially Jeanine for color. read more

Always amazing cut with Kate! Best stylist I've ever had including years in NYC at Fekkai. She's the best at cutting my straight hair and being in it to life! Wonderful talent! read more

What an amazing haircut! Best I have had in a long time. Charles is truly an artist. You can tell he loves his craft and takes it seriously. The salon is very clean and I felt very safe being there during the pandemic. read more

Cute salon, nice people, decent cut/color... however, i won't be coming back. I have a fundamental issue with charging an extra $25 for a blow dry. If I have someone do my hair, i fully expect them to blow it dry as a last step to ensure they did a good job. To me, it's like a chef making a sauce and not tasting it. I find it baffling that after the shampoo girl rinsed my hair today i was asked to pay and the stylist never looked at my hair to check her work. I paid $80 for a single process root touch up and i walked out with wet hair. If i am going to pay that much, i expect them to quality check and finish their work. read more

I used to be a client of Kate's in the city and now it's a must that I travel to Jersey to get my hair cut because no one cuts it like Kate! She consistently listens to me and I'm never disappointed. She has also done my hair for multiple weddings and I received endless compliments every single time. My color was done by both Jeanine and Cindy and you can't go wrong with either of them. The salon is super friendly and does such cool work. Definitely recommend! read more

KATE IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!! I went in for a haircut but what I got was the best customer service a hairstylist could possibly give. She paid attention to every detail that I was asking for. She also made great recommendations on products that I needed to start using on my hair to prevent split ends. She took her time she also held a great conversation made me feel very welcome and her chair. I will say after visiting other salons in the area that made me feel rushed and unwelcome, this Salon made me feel like family and that I was at home. read more

I came here to have highlights done by Jeanine, the colorist. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and offered a beverage. The salon is clean and welcoming. I got the best wash and head massage I've ever gotten. Jeanine did a fabulous job on my highlights and knew exactly what I wanted. I cant wait to go back and have my hair cut. Overall it was a great experience. read more

Lisa was so amazing!! I'm so happy I found her and Charles Studio! She really listened to what I wanted and took the time to really deliver! 10/10 recommend and can't wait for my next appointment with her! read more

From start to finish, the experience at Charles Studio is top notch. The beautiful salon is buzzy and filled with energy, but calm enough for you to enjoy the most extensive and skillful hair wash and head massage you've had outside of a professional cranio-sacral massage. This is easily my favorite part! The designated hair washer concentrates on you and never rushes through this critical step. Upon being seated, they will serve you an espresso, latte, water, or tea. Rivals my Starbucks run! Jeanine has been highlighting my blonde hair for more than a decade. I continually get compliments, and have referred her to several friends (and strangers!) who have had fabulous experiences with her as well. She has always worked with me, keeping me realistic about my hair and also allowing me to experiment. Her color always looks natural, and my follow up appointments are stretched few and far between because of her skilled technique. I always tell her she's doing herself a disservice by doing such a good job! I don't have to come back nearly enough. If I ever feel I haven't achieved the exact look I was going for (yes, it's happened over the 10 years!), I call and she welcomes me back to her chair to make the necessary adjustments. Charles has cut my hair for even longer than Jeanine has colored it. He has become a friend, not just a stylist, over the years. Through an illness that affected my hair in a major way, he offered to continuously cut, trim, and style my hair and never allowed me to pay. I can't tell you what a difference in my mental well-being this made. He made me feel beautiful even at my worst. I will be forever grateful to him for this. Charles cuts are always flawless, he moves with confidence, and as a woman with long hair I like to say he specializes in the "Charles"- the cut that somehow takes off all the dead ends, and yet still feels long. His cuts last for months on me. Katelyn gives the best blow outs! She has always cut my boys' hair (ages 3.5 and 4.5) and people are always asking where I get their hair done because they are "real" cuts and not "kids" cuts. She also cuts my husbands hair. She's a gem! read more

Charles is amazing, and I've also had a haircut by a junior stylist that I was happy with. Charles really pays attention to what you want, and knows what works well with your hair. As far as coloring goes, I had a horrible experience with the colorist. I went in and wanted to go from brunette to blond (knowing very well what I was getting myself into because I had blond hair before, and even showed her a picture of my hair). She talked me out of it, and said ombré highlights would look better. I agreed. When it was done it didn't even look like she had done anything, and definitely didn't look like what she said she was going to do. I ended up spending 5 hours at the salon, had to have my hair dyed back to brown, and months later, my hair is still recovering from all the damage she did that day. Not mention, she still charged me for the highlights, when she was the one who made the mistake and didn't do what she said she would do. Get a haircut. Don't trust the coloring. read more

Best blowouts around! I have been getting my hair blown out religiously for 10 years and Charles Studio by far takes the cake! Katelyn is my favorite, she always leaves my hair looking camera ready. After visiting Charles Studio people all over ask where I've gotten my hair blown out, and best of all, this is the only hair salon that actually takes you at your appointment time, every time. Wonderful experience from start to finish. A true Fanwood treasure. read more

Charles Studio is the best around! The ladies there are friendly and super talented. I'm never disappointed with my cut by Kate or my color by Jeanine and I have difficult curly hair. I've always hated going to the salon... stylist would more often than not be running late...taking phone calls..etc. plus they always made me feel like I was not important to them..just another customer. WELL I walked into Charles Studio and immediately felt comfortable!!! They are always so happy to see their clients plus the head massage is so relaxing you don't want to get up!! AND Lisa, who cuts my hair, is not only amazing but the sweetest girl ever!!! Never been happier with my hair!!! read more

I love Charles Studio! My hair is the healthiest it has ever been! I get compliments all the time. Jeanine is my colorist and keeps me looking natural with her color knowledge. I had a huge problem with my color when I first came to her. She was able to make me look 10 years younger in one visit! The products made my hair shine and restored its health. Lisa trims and maintains my long cut and the condition of my ends. I look forward to my visits and the pleasant surroundings. The salon is bright and has a very good feeling of harmony. You never hear personal conversations between the staff about each other. The customer is the focus. Total customer service! Such a relaxing atmosphere! The shampoos are heavenly! I have almost fallen asleep with the scalp and neck massage you get. The extraordinary layout of the salon is so new and innovative too! You feel part of the team. You never feel stuck in a corner or away from any staff. You are offered a beverage as soon as you arrive and I have never had to wait for my appointment! I am always on time or a bit early but they take my coat and help me into a robe as soon as I arrive. Depending on the services you are having your time in the salon moves at a comfortable pace. You are in and out in a timely manner. They schedule everyone so as to have a smooth flow and you don't loose hours waiting. It is important to say they are able to offer services for all. I have seen everyone from very young to 85+. Men can also enjoy all of the services offered to women. I have even seen a TV star or two! Always discreet the staff just treats everyone with the same impeccable service and respect. This is why I would not go anywhere other than Charles Studio! read more

Charles Ruiz is an amazing hair stylist. He gives me beautiful haircuts every time. I have had strangers on the street remark that they loved my haircut. I'm not making this up. The service and warmth at Charles Study is wonderful. Highly, highly recommend. read more

This salon is the real thing. Charles is amazing- a true artist- so incredibly skillful and passionate about his craft - he really knows how to make a woman look beautiful. His team, particularly his assistant Billy, are just as fabulous (did the most amazing blow-out- I haven't looked this good in years). His studio is modern yet comfortable, and absolutely immaculate (despite multiple clients, there was not a hair on the floor). Normally is such a high end salon, I would expect attitude and to feel a bit uncomfortable but not here. Everyone was genuinely trying to make the experience great. Charles and his team are amazing. read more

I decided to try Charles Studio because it's close to home and got great reviews. Charles gave me a dated styleless haircut that did't suit my hair type. The funny thing is, he kept telling me how chic the cut was and how nice I looked so I couldn't tell him how I really felt. I just don't think he invested the time necessary to achieve a great cut and for $90, I expected more. I went back to ZOKU in Summit to get it fixed and my stylist IRENE did an amazing job. She charges a $100 but it's worth every penny. Never cheating on her again! read more

I started going to Charles Studio about a year ago, after needing a change from my colorist/stylist for over 10 years. So happy I did. Jeanine does my coloring and its great -- I have to go every three weeks so I'm there often. Katelyn cuts my hair, as well as my daughters. I was worried about the pricing since its very modern and has a NYC feel, but surprising was cheaper than my previous salon. They are very attentive, asking you if you want a latte, water, tea -- making sure you are comfortable. The BEST part is the hair washing--- the girls do an awesome head massage as they wash your hair. Great place! read more

Charles Studio is amazing. I have long, unruly, curly hair and I never feel as though anyone can do anything with it, but the staff at Charles Studio fixed my color, and gave me a great cut. They did exactly what I wanted--they kept it long, added a bit of shape. Janine is so wonderful with color. She gave me something easy to maintain, but with lots of warmth and great dimension. Usually people hate blowing out my hair because there is so much of it and it's so curly that it makes for a big job, but their staff generally seem to love working with hair and the whole process is a pleasure from beginning to end. For days people have been telling me how great I look. Charles Studio is absolutely the best salon in the area and yet they are also some of the most genuine, friendly, and caring people I have ever encountered in a salon. I cannot recommend them highly enough. read more

My husband and I have been going to this salon for almost 4 years. Both of us are very particular with our hair and I am happy to say that they have never failed us. Lisa who trims my husband's hair is a sweetheart. Charles who owns the salon is the best! Even if my hair gets longer, it still maintains the shape and it still looks good. You wouldn't even notice that I haven't had a haircut for months! Jeanine who does the highlighting of my hair is a gem! I would never need to worry how I will look after my cut and color as I know that I'm in good hands. I have even recommended them to my friends and all of them have very nice things to say about their experience and they became regular clients of Charles Studio too. The entire crew will make you feel comfortable and they are all very friendly and professional. Definitely one of the top notch salons in the area. read more

So disappointed with this salon. I had been going to the salon for awhile and was paying $20 for a blow out. I went one Saturday , I had a touch up on my color and a blow out (my hair is short) for $120.. I went home and realized when I looked in the mirror I still had quite a few gray hairs on my head. I called back the following Monday to inquire about the price of the blow out and complain about the gray hair. I was told it's $30 on a Saturday and only $20 on a week day.. I understand Saturday is usually a very busy day for a hair salon but there were quite a few employees who were standing around doing nothing and were quite capable of doing a blow out. I was so disappointed, I never even got a chance to mention all the gray in my hair after spending a total of $120.00 for color touch up and blow out plus tip..Never again. read more

Charles is an excellent hair designer...I truly recommend this Stylist, you won't be disappointed, guarantee.

I have tried so many salons in this area, and was never happy with the results. I can happily say that I am done looking for a new salon! Charles Studio is it. I scheduled my highlights with Jeanine, and a cut with Katelyn. Both woman are amazing in what they do. Both ladies took the time to sit and have a full on consultation. Jeanine pulled up pics of hair colors on an iPAD and asked me what I thought, (too blonde, too brown etc) She explained everything she was doing through the entire process of highlighting my hair, which required a double-process to cover all my grays. And I absolutely loved the end result- it's very natural looking and is exactly what I wanted. Katelyn spruced up the cut and style of my hair, but made sure it was still easily manageable for me to throw up in a pony-tail if I wanted. Only downfall of this salon is not being able to put a tip on a credit card, but I think that is becoming the norm in a lot of places. Just make sure you have a lot of cash, as I needed to tip 3 individual people (colorist, hairdresser and shampoo girl) Thankfully I was somewhat prepared to do that. Place has a really cool vibe, and I loved sitting around a table all facing in getting my hair done, and not staring at a wall with my back to everyone- made for some lovely small conversations with other people at my table. Great neighborhood vibe! read more
