Became a new customer a couple a months ago after leaving a salon in Clark (previously in Roselle) that I had been going to for over 20 years due to some issues there with the owner and her "opinions." I must say, what a breath of fresh air and kindness at Voa. I was welcomed by a friendly, professional and upbeat staff and an environment that was very relaxing. Tina asked and listened to the kind of cut I was looking for. She delivered a very even and stylish cut that I was very satisfied with. I'm giving one star because I paid $120 and waited 2.5 months for an appointment and never got my hair done. It might be a great salon I wouldn't know. I called in the beginning of July to schedule an appointment and they explained that they require a $120 deposit and you need to do a (free) consultation beforehand. They were pretty booked up but I was able to schedule a consultation and an appointment for a few weeks later. I paid the deposit. About a week before my appointment something came up and I needed to reschedule. They rescheduled the consultation and appointment (I thought) for about a month later. I finally had my consultation a few days before the appointment but was told that no appointment was ever booked because you need to have a consultation first. Why then, I wondered aloud, would I have paid a $120 deposit for a free consultation with no appointment booked. And why then did I reschedule an appointment then never existed? And furthermore, if I needed to do the consultation before I could book an appointment, why would I wait months for the consultation? Anyways I went alone and booked the appointment for a month later. Day of appointment my son was sick and I could not find a babysitter so I needed to cancel. They kept the deposit and asked if I wanted to reschedule and pay another $120 deposit. So much about this makes no sense to me. Lots of rules. Too many rules. Very confusing. Went to Voa based on the recommendations of my fellow yelpers. Let me tell you I was NOT disappointed. My hair was destroyed from my previous salon but I had read that ANA was a master colorist. She actually goes back and forth the NYC and California to update on her training. She is certified in 3 different color lines. I was almost embarrassed to walk through the door but from the minute I met ANA I could feel her passion. It also was evident that ANA wanted to help me get to my desired hair goals. Let me tell you NO ONE else will ever touch my hair. ANA is amazing (pics to follow). Price point is amazing as is all their products. The place is clean. The staff is friendly. The music is relaxing. In fact, for the first time in my salon going history I took a nap while I was getting my hair washed and deep conditioned. The place just induces relaxation. I had to cancel my appointment same day due to my son being sick. I am a first time client and asked if they would kindly waive the non-refundable deposit and that I would reschedule for the same week. They refused to which was extremely disappointing. I would think gaining a new client who would come on a monthly basis would be more important than keeping $35. I will not be giving Voa my business and will support another local salon with better customer service. read more

Hands down my favorite hair salon! I get maybe 2 haircuts max per year but I wouldn't dare going anywhere else. They have late hours toward the end of the week for busy schedules and commuters coming from the city (like me!) but I would recommend scheduling a hair appointment at least a week or two in advance if you can swing it - just makes scheduling a breeze. I've loved every single haircut I've gotten at Voa. The stylists really listen to you about what you want. From my wash/conditioning, to the cut itself, to the styling... the experience is just so relaxing. No botched haircuts and no disappointments. Although I really liked the stylist who cut my hair, I am disappointed with their service. I made another appointment to do a hair painting (balayage), and was require to put a 50% deposit down. The total was about $300 and I was require to put $147 to secure my appointment (FYI- my current hair length is up to my chin). The deposit is non-refundable and you must reschedule within 48 hours. I rescheduled my initial appointment for the following week. The day of my appointment, I caught a flat tire on my way to the salon and I called them 1 hour in advanced to let them know my situation. I called them a total of 3x to be courteous and keep them updated on my eta. I was going to be about 30-45 minutes late. Since my delay were to exceed 30 minutes, they could no longer see me that day(which is completely understandable) but they weren't even willing to reschedule my appointment because it wasn't 48 hours in advanced and told me on the phone there was nothing they could do, regardless of my circumstance, that I would have to put another deposit to reschedule the appointment. So, I lost all my money and I can't help but feel like I've been robbed. Their policy is strict in securing a transaction and non-circumstantial. Just because of their service, I'm going to be going to another salon to do my hair coloring and am willing to pay the same price as I did at Vôa. read more

She quickly said we are going to give a call and see if the make up artist is available!!!!!!!! Then don't have make up as service if it's only available when it's convenient for them. Paula listens to exactly what I want my end result to look like and is great at making it happen and explaining exactly how long each goal will take. I've always been very hesitant about trying new salons for fear of walking out completely disappointed or hating the way I look. Having recently just moved to the area & being 39 weeks pregnant, traveling to my usual salon was just not an option anymore. I was already overdue for a cut, and knowing I would very soon have no time to get my hair done I was desperate for a solution. After reading other reviewers compliments here & exploring Voa's website I decided to give it a shot. Not knowing how booked up they were, I was happily surprised to be able to get a same day appointment for a cut & blow-dry. The staff was so friendly over the phone & I was greeted warmly by Tina (who was my stylist) when I walked in. She took great care of me, and listened exactly to what I was looking for (something shorter, lightweight, easy to maintain while keeping my layers). She even made a suggestion for a Wella product (I love their stuff) to help protect my hair from my flat/curling irons which I use frequently (& it smelled amazing). My hair came out even better than what I had in mind. It was so light, shiny, and it made this tired mama-to-be feel very beautiful & pampered. LOL I am off on Mondays and Sundays, which happen to be her off days also, so I do not get to book with her! I recently moved and have been trying to find someone to replace her without any luck. I have been going to see Ana since I was in high school and to this day she (or members of her team) are the only people I allow to touch my hair. I live in another time zone and will wait until I am in NJ to get my hair cut. Ana has an eye/gift/magic powers for knowing what style will suit you best. I will go in, tell her my general wants, but let her do "whatever is trending" (face frame, long layers, etc.) so even though I keep my traditional color and style, she keeps my hair looking fresh and cool. Ana is patient but efficient. She works with you. For example, if I tell her that I won't be able to visit for 6 months, she will cut my hair in a way so that it still looks amazing after 6 months. Ana instills a new confidence in me and has me feeling my best. She also is a great conversationalist, but would respect your if you wanted to be quiet (I am not quiet.) The salon works like a dream. Every employee treats you with respect and takes pride in their work, from the receptionist to the hair stylists. One of my favorite things about Voa is how you can see hairdressers moving up and growing throughout your visits. Ana clearly respects her team and every single employee seems to value working there. That truly astounds me. I tried to book with Ana last minute, but she had no openings so I was given to Jennifer. Jennifer also does an amazing job. I told her in general what Ana does for me, and she gave me the same style I wanted but with her own flare. I felt really safe with her, and felt amazing when I walked out of the salon. I love that I now have 2 hairdressers I could visit. When I see other people leaving the salon, their hair always looks stunning. I was going every two weeks for a gel manicure until illness made my nails brittle and tender. Ana was fantastic. I have always been fastidious about my hands and she followed my requests perfectly. The manicure was impeccably applied and lasted exactly as long as she predicted. She would encourage me to get different colors that would flatter my hands. I often got French manicures and her free hand line work was amazingly precise. I can't wait until I am well enough for manicures again. I have recommended many friends to go here. I have also received eyebrow waxes that were painless and beautiful. The price were reasonable. I am always able to get an appointment within a few days. read more

Don't know what happened here. I made an appointment for my wife to get her hair done for her birthday before we went out to dinner with friends. She was so happy and thought it was a great surprise. She arrived on time for her appointment and they mentioned that there was an emergency and someone called out so there was a pretty big wait time. That's not a problem. That is understandable. I just would have appreciated a call letting us know the situation, they had the info in their computers. I could have made other plans for her and not wasted time. It really stinks when you make your wife smile with a nice gesture on her bday and then she gets let down. Emergencies happen, I just feel that we deserve a phone call. It would have allowed us to change the appointment or go somewhere else. The company should consider this moving forward. We all live busy lives and have to schedule many things on a daily basis. Please consider this moving forward. From what I've been told VOA is a great establishment, they just let me down today. read more

Voa Salon is the worst of the worst hair salons. I went twice for an estimate for a hair color and a cut they told me $190 went I paid they overcharge and stole my money for $300.00. I wanted a golden blond instead they kept my natural hair color dark brown with highlights it didn't come even close to what I wanted. Their level system of commitment is all crap. The owner Ana is very unprofessional she does not know how to treat customers, she is very knowledgeable on how to snatch and steal the customers money that is indeed for sure. They lie on how much they will charge you at the very end when you pay they will overcharge you with out your consent It is not a high end level system please do yourself s favor don't waste your money and valuable precious time don't go there, go to another salon.
