I typically love this place and I've tried all of their locations however about 10 days ago I got a manicure pedicure with my mom. The staff was lovely and I felt embarrassed to say anything - however, I got the callus remover add-on and when my feet were scrubbed, the woman giving me my pedicure scrubbed the tops and sides of my feet so hard that they started to bleed. I notified the woman however she just continued to do her job and I didn't want to make a fuss about it, When I left I was having trouble walking and noticed the cuts are much deeper than I thought. It's been about 10 days one of the one of the cuts is still healing and pretty painful. read more

It was my first time going to Primp & Polish at their N 9th location after being recommended by a friend. I was so impressed with the quality of my mani and was so excited to go back. I got mirror chrome nails and they looked so great. However, after the first day, a nail chipped so I went back and they redid it right away and I was thrilled. But then after just 3 days, 7/10 nails chipped and I was so upset. I went back again and they were extremely accommodating and had incredible service. Not only did they give me a partial refund, but they redid my entire mani in a different color to avoid chipping. I cannot recommend this spot enough and I know I will be coming back - just not for mirror chrome! read more

The salon is decorated so nicely with leather chairs and perfect lighting. I would say it has to be the prettiest nail salon I've been to in the city and definitely my go-to now. They have a huge range of colors and do an amazing job w/ extensions in terms of shape & design. I got a basic manicure but I was impressed by the nail work of the customers next to me! They also serve complimentary tea (milk or chamomile) which is always a plus. read more

I've been doing my nails 12+ years and this is quite literally the worst experience I have ever had. Avoid this place at all cost. I spent $140 on these nails thinking that I would be paying for quality. Nope. They start all falling off within 2 weeks--I've had extensions less than half this cost that have lasted me at least 3. I didn't want to make a fuss and bother people because the lady who did them was really nice, I never even leave Yelp reviews cuz I'm really easy to please, but I really thought this wasn't right and went to talk to the front desk today to ask them if they could do something about it. She just tells me that, no, they can't do anything because "they recommend refilling every 2 weeks." So... if you have a special 2 week policy (that I've never experienced anywhere else in NYC, and I've lived here mt whole life), shouldn't you at LEAST inform your customer before they spend an arm and a leg on nails? Or at least right after they get them done? I was hoping to at least get them refilled as these were supposed to be my engagement nails, but as you can see literally 5 fell off within the two week mark. And I barely even wash dishes to preserve the health of my nails, I'm very careful. Don't be me and make a mistake of coming here and expecting this place to match their insane prices for quality, or at least expecting any kind of customer "support" for their own failings. read more

I was in Brooklyn for work and needed a place to quickly do my nails. I saw this place was close to me and open on Sundays. I had to go to this Primp and Polish location in a clutch because my home-based location did not have enough room in the schedule for my last-minute nail extension request due to two nails that looked like they did not belong to my natural set. After standing on the sidewalk trying I figure out what to do while staring down at my nails in pity, I decided to call this location. Somehow I was able to get an appointment, hop on the bus and get there in less than 20 minutes. Yan, who prepped and fixed my nails was so professional. Side note: turns out I didn't even need extensions. She was able to use the nails tools to fix my natural nails in no time and with ease. Also, it was affordable and also the service I received from the front desk was lovely and also I'm going back but only once and as needed because I have I be loyal to my home based location. The bottom line is the place is great and fun fact, it's the first Primp & Polish location, est. 2010. read more

Dear Primp n' Polish, I am here to retract my review & admit I was a little harsh. While I still stand by my frustration with the service at the time, it was wrong of me me. I apologize & I am here to GLOAT about my experience today. I was getting a lash service near by & dropped in for a gel mani & pedi. I was greeted by Jazz who was a delight the entire time I was there. She was attentive & bright - even intensely searched for a color for me. My tech, Michelle, was courteous & professional. The COVID measures they enforced made me feel comfortable & safe. Overall, I am so happy to have returned & hope you will forgive me. Sincerely, Me read more

I was not referred to go here by a friend as I was looking for a place to get a pedicure and I was not impressed. The wait wasn't long being a walk in and my friend and I were accommodated to sit next to each other. The seat I was in, the massage chair didn't work which left me disappointed having worked out that morning. You are given the option to pick an essential oil and the pedicure begins. The lady who did my pedicure was so sweet and did a decent job. However, my feet still had rough parts on the bottom. Definitely wouldn't return. read more

The best thing about Primp and Polish is that you feel like you're in a higher end salon, but the prices are the about the same as the ubiquitous more modest NAILS places that do the trick but are lacking in atmosphere. "A nail salon with atmosphere, who needs it?" you may be thinking. But I appreciated the more posh decor. Makes it feel like you're really treating yourself to something (I'm the type that looks at manicure/pedicure time as somewhat of a chore). The pedicure chairs (they have a good number of them) are behind a beaded curtain area and I like the manicure bar, too. It has a more modern appeal, whereas other salons seem pretty stuck in the late 80s/early 90s when it comes to decor. You'll find that they have an admirable selection of polish colors and brands, and have shellac, gel, gelac and Axxium (not sure what that is) options with lots of colors in these treatments as well. The pedicure I received was average. They don't razor off the calluses, which is crucial to a pedicure for me, as I have high arches and build up calluses between pedicures. I asked about this and they told me that they could be fined if they do the razor without a license. OK, so why not get a license... right? They also didn't spend much time with the scrub that would normally take the place of the razor to get off the dead skin, either. As for the stones that everyone seems to appreciate, I don't really get the point. It certainly added nothing to the experience and was over in the blink of an eye (maybe this was an isolated occurrence). My manicure was really great, however. I appreciated the extremely thorough attention to cuticle removal (for me, this is the most important thing, akin to callus removal during a pedicure) and yay for no bleeding. Although I can't report yet on how long the gelish lasted, three days later, it's still looking as perfect as when I left the salon. Considering 35 dollars for a gelish manicure is only $5 more than I'm used to paying at my regular salon in Kansas City, and a $15 pedicure is an unheard of anywhere there, I think I can overlook the fact that they don't remove calluses too well. I'll definitely be coming back to Primp & Polish when visiting home. read more

I came here yesterday for a gel mani & gel pedi. This salon is pricy, but I wanted to enjoy a relaxing mani/pedi experience in a nice environment. Unfortunately, the experience was not worth the cost (over $100). My pedicure was painful because my nail tech kept cutting too much of my skin while trimming my cuticles. Each time this happened, I jerked my foot away and she apologized. At one point, she hastily wiped blood off my toenail hoping I wouldn't notice? My cuticles are still sore, and the pain might have been worth it if the pedicure at least looked good, but my nail tech filed some of my toenails at uneven angles. I couldn't tell how uneven they looked as she was doing them because every time I tried to get a good look in between drying under the UV light, she rushed me to just let her continue her work. So I never got a chance to actually inspect them and say something. My manicure was less painful, because she only cut *two* of my fingers while trimming my cuticles. After the second cut, I insisted that she just stop cutting my cuticles altogether. I will note that my manicure looks great, I'm very pleased with the shaping. However, some of the cuticles on my fingernails are still sore because my tech overdid the cuticle cutting. Won't be back. read more

Nicole is racist, STAY AWAY!!!!! First off, I never leave reviews unless the service is absolutely/remarkably horrible. A lot of people are very nitpicky which is why I don't usually trust most bad reviews, and it weirded me out that this place didn't have higher reviews based on its location, but I will add my two cents now. The result was good, nothing to complain about on that end so far. However, Nicole, was absolutely rude to me. She kept yanking my hand the entire time, she would roll her eyes at me/stare at me if I moved a bit (not my hands, but my chair) and would apply so much pressure while filing my nails that it hurt me. She also spent WAY too much time on the nail prep before doing the actual paint. In which, I noticed some of the files look dirty instead of using completely new ones, which is not hygienic. At some point, she used acetone to take the polish off and start over, and not knowing that I noticed, she put some polish on without the base applicator for gel. She was absolutely unprofessional, and I also think she overcharged me as I got gel nail + removal, and charged $10 for the gel removal. Won't be coming back to this location, but management please, make sure your nail techs are professional. I don't know if this was just discrimination, or if she was in a bad mood. I'm not a difficult customer and as I worked in service I'm very understanding (I obviously tipped) but this was highly unprofessional, especially for the price. The desk woman was very nice nonetheless. I suspected this woman was racist as I seriously didn't do anything to make her this upset. I went down some older reviews, and I noticed another POC girl had this same issue with this same woman two years ago. I hope management looks into this because it is unacceptable. read more

Have never had a good experience here but kept coming back because of convenience of booking. But today was the last straw--charged $47 for gel removal and a basic manicure without polish, but after 45 minutes they did not successfully take the past polish off. When I showed up to my pedicure appointment, they told me they had canceled my appointment because a group wanted to book. So they went with the better offer. No clue how their skills are - so this isn't a review based on that. Just had my second pedicure here since returning back to BK. They don't use liners in the pedicure tubs. And the paint job on my toes are horrible. The shape was different on every toe and I had to have her refile 3 times, she tried to blame me and said I cut my nail bad (last time my nails were cut they did it!!!!). I did love their gel manicures but the past two times it hasn't been great. I had a crack in my nail and asked my lady to fix it, she did then after it was done she said that it's going to be extra!!! Fine whatever but she f***ing glued my nail to my skin and I had to get it unstuck myself cus she was trying to ignore it...and then you want to charge me!!! Help! I need a new nail place. read more

I'm really saddened to have to write this review as I was very excited to go to Primp & Polish after seeing so many good reviews and hearing good things from around the neighborhood. I would like to start off by saying my initial experience was wonderful. The space is very clean, and the staff very friendly. I have nothing against the nail techs that worked on me; they were both very lovely. However, after only three days, I had my gel crack and one of my nails broke. I went to get it fixed. I asked for a tip but was told the girl who could do it was busy. I offered to come back another day as I had no problem being patient but was told "let's just fix it now and you can get a tip another day". But now, less than a week from my original appointment and three days after I got my nail fixed, almost all of my nails are cracked or broken. At the appointment it was fixed, all of my nails got repainted on top of the existing gel polish. They have since cracked to show the original layer underneath. When I returned once more for help, I was blamed and told it was my fault my nails were cracking because they did not cure fully, when that feels like the tech's job to know whether or not my nails are done and dry (plus I did not ask her to paint all of my nails, I only went to get one fixed). I was told I may only receive a credit to the establishment, but that there was nothing they could do but fix my nails (I should also mention since then I have had no contact with them). After this first experience, I'm sad to say I don't feel like I want to return. I feel that if you pay $60+ for a manicure that it should last more than three days at a time. I'm now worried about the health of my nails and about them all breaking, when I originally got a gel manicure to keep them protected. read more

Since I had moved here I have been unable to find a salon that is able to do the Pink & White gel sets for under $200. Also, this is a pricy service and can easily be messed up so it is hard to trust anyone to do this..Until now. The salon is a short walk from my apartment & they are able to take appointments at 6:30 p.m, (Most salons I've been to close at that time.) Anyway, Claire is the BEST. She is extremely sweet & hardworking. She is a perfectionist & asks your opinion a few times to make sure you love your nails. I used to come here every 2 weeks for gel manicures and pedicures. I stopped coming because they stopped offering to clip nails for the Express Gel Manicures, so you now have to pay extra for them to clip your nails with a nail clipper. I'm still giving this place 5 stars because the application is the best (so precise) in the neighborhood. Plus the service is amazing. They aren't snobbish or fussy (that's a good thing), and they also aren't too rough with handling your cuticles. If you're willing to splurge, this is worth it. read more

Ever since moving to Williamsburg, I haven't thought about going anywhere else to get my nails done. They do an amazing job and Winnie is the BEST at hard gel extensions. My nails always last for 4 weeks. People may complain that it's expensive but I think the price is right for the quality and service. Also, I would hate to pay a little less somewhere else and get fungus or my nails chipped in a week. I docked 1 star because their other locations aren't as great and I think there should be consistency among them all especially around pricing. I went to their 586 Grand St. location once and they tried to charge me $5 to superglue my nail. I will walk the extra half mile to get the BEST service at this location. read more

After posting on yelp, customer service reached out to me. They offered to have me come back in and have my nails filed thinner. I chose to go to the East Williamsburg location since this location only had my original technician doing hard gels the day I was available. Jenny in East WB was meticulous with her shaping. They came out much more natural looking and I am extremely happy with the results. I'll be coming back to this location from now on. The manager was also very kind and made sure I was happy before I left. Leaving off a star only because of the original experience I had at the 189 Grand St. location.
