I booked last minute and went in kind of blind since the website doesn't show anyone's work -- so you're basically guessing who to book with. I'm a guy and not sure how often they do more masculine-leaning designs, but they really nailed it and knocked it out of the park with this one. I brought inspo pics for a gel design, but there was a bit of miscommunication and the design wasn't coming out right. That said, before we even got there, my nails looked so good -- super clean, crisp, and perfectly shaped. Even without polish, I would've been happy leaving like that. They had another manicurist, Dolker, step in and she completely turned it around. She checked in with me on each nail and executed the design way better -- I left really happy. They also took $15 off, which I appreciated. The manicure itself lasted almost 4 weeks with no chipping and I kept getting compliments. One tip: bring cash for gratuity -- otherwise it's Venmo only, but there's a bodega right across the street if you need it. I'd definitely come back -- just booking with Dolker next time. I'm so disappointed in the quality of gel. I went in for a gel manicure / pedicure expecting it to last at least a couple of weeks, but it started chipping within just a few days. For the price they charge, the quality was nowhere near acceptable. Within 3-4 days, multiple nails were already lifting and chipping, which completely defeats the purpose of getting a gel manicure in the first place. Her technician clearly knew what they were doing and made her extremely dagger like callous feet baby smooth. So kudos to her. The "technician" assigned to me may have been in training. I came in on a Friday afternoon after booking a same day appointment online through their website. It allowed me to add multiple different services and gave the time frame for each of the services and predicted duration for everything, which was really nice. I booked a "just like magic" jelly pedi w/ 20 minute foot reflexology add on, a classic honey manicure, and a 10 minute chair massage with Tenzin. The shop is bright with high ceilings and nice lighting. It gives a clean, chill, chic vibe. My service was excellent. Tenzin was attentive and thorough with each piece of my service, and I have literally never had cleaner cuticles in my life! I typically see Dolker for a regular manicure. Did you know they have nail happy hour where you can get $5 off any service between 2-4pm Tuesday to Thursday? If you have flexibility in your schedule this can be a great $$ saver. Their pedicures are super luxurious (albeit on the higher price end). I called Local Honey asking how to use a gift card at the salon when pre-paying and booking online as is their current policy, and they said we would figure it out once I arrived for the appointment. I came today for my appointment and was happy to see the actions they took to ensure health and safety ie having me wash my hands twice during the manicure, my manicurist sanitizing her gloved hands when coming back to from checking out a customer, plenty of hand sanitizer throughout, enforcing social distancing, etc. I was bummed to find out that the treatment I booked and prepaid for (apres gel x nail extension) wasn't available as the nail tech that I booked with wasn't there/no longer works there, and the techs available couldn't do tips of any kind. The girl who I spoke with was sweet and apologetic though. Ended up with a gel mani and regular pedicure. The pedicure felt really good. I loved the jelly-like substance you squish your feet in. Paid extra for reflexology as well with this awesome oil and paraffin wax (also extra I think). The manicure was fine but not tons of options in terms of colors and no book of ideas to choose from. Certainly makes decisions easier though! Masks and gloves are worn at all times and some of the techs wore face shields too. I'm waiting to see if the manager reaches out to me regarding how to redeem the gift card because no one there was able to help with that. This is my first and last time at this salon. I called ahead to make sure that they could do french manicures using regular polish, as I know that isn't always the easiest thing to accomplish, but I have gotten beautiful french manicures with regular polish at other, cheaper establishments. When I got there they seemed confused even though I had recalled that I called earlier to confirm they can do french manicure with regular polish. The manicurist then acted like she had never done a french manicure in her life, claiming regular polish was too dry for a simple design. She struggled through the process and then in the end they turned out horrible. I have gotten much cleaner, prettier french manicures at salons that were much less highbrow. For what was originally going to be a $37 manicure, this was really disappointing. I thought I was treating myself, but I was just relieved they didn't charge the extra 12(!) dollars for french on top of the already expensive 25 dollar manicure. Cutest little nail place ever! Made an appointment with Yang today (she was the best!) and the place was pretty empty when I walked in. They have a pretty good selection of nail colors/brands. My manicure was super thorough, I loved all of the homemade/natural products they used on me. They make their own oil, toner, sugar scrub and lotion! They have all of these things available for purchase, as well as tshirts, nail decals, and a variety of other goodies. PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE. I have contemplated writing this review for a few days now, mainly because I hate leaving a negative review for a business. But this place is really the most overpriced, and frankly the most filthy nail salon I have ever been to. I typically go to Blair in Chinatown and a gel extension set will run me around $120. I mention this because price is not an issue if the quality is there. Unfortunately I was unable to get an appointment in time so I chose Local Honey because it is closest to me. I'll start with the general appearance of the salon: IT WAS FILTHY. The ceiling fan appeared to have months of dust bunnies clinging to it for life and the tool kit she used on my hands was NOT FRESH. Neither were the nail files she used. Everything appeared dirty from the foot baths to the counter tops. Despite this, the woman at the front desk basically just sat there. A gel manicure is $50 BASE PRICE. I was okay with that. They also charge you $25 to remove gel extensions; even though I only had 5 nails where they were still attached. The poor woman removing my extensions had no idea what she was doing and severely damaged my nails because of this. They are actually so thin I may not be able to do anything without chipping them. This process took her almost an hour (literally unheard of). The "manicure" part of this gel manicure was completely missing because she really only cut and filed my nails. She applied the polish, which is already chipping even though I had this done about three days ago. I am beyond appalled by the pricing and lack of experience and general knowledge this establishment has. I will leave a picture below. Does this look like a $75 manicure to you?! read more

I've tried several times to love local honey but 50% of the time I've left with $100 less in my pocket and poorly painted nails and toes. To begin with, I have been getting gel manicures done on the regular for 4 years now. I have been to cheap and expensive places. If it's cheap and the job is bad, I won't write a bad review, because you get what you pay for. But, I just moved, needed a new regular nail place. Honestly I really tried to love this place!!! With the amount of reviews, I went in. The pricing is slightly on the higher end. The service I got was way below that. They were nice for sure, but with the money I am paying, this is not okay. I repeatedly told the person who was doing it that my nails are not smoothly filed. She kept ignoring it. I came back, it kept snagging at my hair, my clothes. Nails are peeling within the first 5 days. Most of them are chipped and broken! The cuticle edges are so badly done. Even the polish edges are not clean. There are weird uneven spots on the nails. That's because gel polish is thick and it needs to be evenly applied which she clearly is unaware of. If you get a dark polish, you can get away with it, but not with lighter shades. This was my first time, maybe I just had the one-off bad experience! Who knows! What I know is, I have to keep looking for a new regular place . Thoroughly disappointed! read more

After booking online, I looked forward to my first time at Local Honey. It was a little hard to find but once I stepped inside I thought it was cute from the asthetic, decor, and even the things they have for sale. I loved the jelly they used for the pedicure but after asking, I'm still curious as to why they don't have an option without it. I was told it was either the quickie option (dry) or the classic/gel which comes with the jelly. Also usually you aren't rushed to pick a color but I was however I did end up choosing one I really liked. Finally got to try Local Honey and I really loved the experience. The decor calls to the tarot-reading, crystal-loving witch in me and has a cool desert-chic vibe. I love that manicures are done at a subway-tiled counter, rather than individual stations or cubicles. Makes the whole thing feel much more elegant. Plus, you get wine with your service. I had Apres X Gel Extensions with Sonia and she was great. Quick, polished, super nice. As a first timer for the gel extensions, I'm totally in love. My only question is how they get filled in, considering they're a bonded gel stick-on nail, rather than powder like acrylic. I guess we'll see when it's time. Any tips would be welcome. Lastly, the reason I knocked off a star was really just because of the price. A full set like mine starts at $85, which is expensive but not totally off the wall for something similar in Brooklyn. But then, I got a teeny tiny line at the top and was charged an extra $30 for "nail design." I understand charging more for designs, but $30 is pretty steep for small strip at the top.
