Finally got to try Local Honey and I really loved the experience. The decor calls to the tarot-reading, crystal-loving witch in me and has a cool desert-chic vibe. I love that manicures are done at a subway-tiled counter, rather than individual stations or cubicles. Makes the whole thing feel much more elegant. Plus, you get wine with your service. I had Apres X Gel Extensions with Sonia and she was great. Quick, polished, super nice. As a first timer for the gel extensions, I'm totally in love. My only question is how they get filled in, considering they're a bonded gel stick-on nail, rather than powder like acrylic. I guess we'll see when it's time. Any tips would be welcome. Lastly, the reason I knocked off a star was really just because of the price. A full set like mine starts at $85, which is expensive but not totally off the wall for something similar in Brooklyn. But then, I got a teeny tiny line at the top and was charged an extra $30 for "nail design." I understand charging more for designs, but $30 is pretty steep for small strip at the top. I tried asking a few questions but didn't even get a response from her or the other employee who is just sitting there. So I booked the appointment and was immediately charged $70. There is no possibility of canceling the appointment online -only rescheduling or scheduling another appointment. So I had to walk back in to cancel my appointment which she was resistant to. Local Honey was one of the worst manicure pedicure experiences I have had in recent memory. The salon itself looks like it might have been nice 5 years ago when it first opened, but it has taken a serious beating. Everything is very dirty. The aesthetic of the establishment is very much trashed Urban Outfitters dressing room. Let me begin with the fact that my mani-pedi appointment took 2.5 hours start to finish. By the end, I felt like a prisoner in the chair. I got the impression from observing the staff that they did not enjoy working there and wanted to leave just as badly as I did. My largest issue with my experience was the pedicure portion. The pedicure stations at Local Honey are not equipped with running water so the technicians must fill/clean buckets at a nearby sink and carry them over to each client. I question the cleanliness of this entire process and felt terrible for the technicians lugging these buckets back and forth. Instead of soaking your feet in water, Local Honey fills their pedicure buckets with some kind powder that when mixed with water turns into a fluffy slime like material. It felt disgusting once my feet were submerged in this spa slime. The technician then had to use a pitcher to rinse off my feet post slime soak. I can't imagine that once disposed this fluffy slime material is good for the plumbing in their building or for the environment. The quality of the manicure and pedicure itself was also not great. My technician struggled to file my nails evenly and missed many edges of my nails. The bottle of gel I chose was almost empty and looked gummy/expired once applied to my nails - the technician had difficulty applying the polish's tacky texture but continued to paint my nails with it anyway. I would rate the whole experience a 2 out of ten stars and that is being kind. The cherry on top was the price. I paid $100 for this whole ordeal. There are tons of other salons that I would gladly pay that amount for a quality mani-pedi....Local Honey is not it. I will never return. read more

I used to come here a lot, but they've definitely gone downhill. I went in yesterday for an "express" manicure, which is $14. It took them 45 minutes to cut, file, push back my cuticles and cut them (not even soaking in any water), and polish. I asked the tech to file them round, she didn't listen. Then I asked her to do them more round, but they were still squared off. I was in a hurry so didn't ask again. The polish job was terrible -- it looks like I did them myself. And the drying station is a joke. The machines barely work. To top it off, when I went to wash my hands, the handle of one of the faucets broke off. I went out to tell the woman at the front, and another tech yelled at me, "Ma'am! It's fine! It does that all the time." Um...that's an issue? The whole place is dirty and rundown and the people there don't seem to care. If you're in the neighborhood, definitely go to Your Style, on Wyckoff. That's my go-to! I just recently started getting my brows done by Lydia and for the first time in my life my eyebrows actually have a shape. I'm very grateful for her. My heart and soul here is Nima. UPDATE: Owner reached out and apologized, thus one more star for their acknowledgment and willingness to improve. I booked two appointments, one after another for my friend and I. I didn't know how to make them at the same time, but that wasn't a problem as the length of service shown on the menu were helpful. We figured we could wait for each other to finish and still have time to spare before our event. I've read great reviews on Local Honey and also read up on the staff bio that they provided on the site. Everyone seemed nice so I didn't have much of a preference for who would take care of us. We arrived and I explained the booking situation to the receptionist. I also asked if anyone else was available so we can get our nails done at the same time. If not, no worries, we will wait. They told us they have someone available. We were originally scheduled with Churrim so she greeted us and told us where to sit. Another nail technician went up to my friend and proceeded to do her nails, I later found out her name was Tsomo. Churrim was amazing. She asked me if I was okay with everything before she proceeded and we had small talk. I felt very welcomed by her. Tsomo, on the other hand, seemed very bothered and didn't want to be there. She also cut my friend's cuticle too deep that it started bleeding. We immediately had sanitary concerns and questioned whether they clean their tools properly. Tsomo did not care and did not apologize. she continued as if everything was okay and did not even acknowledge the fact that my friend is now bleeding. After we left, we also noticed the gel applied to my friend's pinky was uneven and bulky. Maybe my expectations for this place were too high, but I will not be coming back due to this experience. We would've accepted if Tsomo at least apologized, but my friend received nothing but cold stares the whole time. I always have a good experience at Local Honey. What a nail gem in this neighborhood. I usually make an appointment online a few days in advance for a medi and pedi. Once there, all the girls are very nice and you don't have to wait long. They also serve wine, which is a bonus. The decor is amazing and they play good music. The pedicure here is so unique. Using metal bowls, your feet are put in a jelly foot bath. They also give you a sugar/salt scrub and nice foot message with heated stones. The manicure follows where your hands are old, scrubbed and messaged. Color application on both are good and usually my pedicure lasts more then a week and my manicure maybe 4-5 days. My only complaint with local honey is that I wish they had a better color selection. I like how they have Smith & Cult nail polish but they could have more variety and maybe doubles of some if a popular color is in use, others can still choose it. This place is pretty special. I have to say I received one of the best pedicures ever here. I called ahead to see if they had availability for my sister and I as they do take appointments and didn't want to get there just to be turned away. The place is really cute and comfortable. We were offered water, tea, or wine. There are lots of polish colors to choose from. Instead of just soaking your feet in the usual water with some bubbles, the basin was filled with a purple jelly like substance. Very squishy, felt really good. Pedicure also included a scrub and a hot stone foot massage. I left with very happy feet. They have a happy hour that runs Tues, Wed, Thurs between 2-4pm. Mani/pedis are only $35! I've seen Chhurim for a mani/pedi and she was excellent! This place has definitely suffered a downgrade because of the pandemic. Prices are still about the same as when I went in 2019, but it seems like the most qualified staff have moved on and the new space is so, so much worse than the old one. No more built in pedicure bench or open, un-cramped layout. Now it's just a typical storefront nail salon. With an incense stick. The new location isn't why I'm giving only two stars-- its been a hard year for almost every small business, so I understand why they had to move from their old rental, even if in the process they lost a lot of what made the experience at Local Honey worthwhile. I also just had a bad mani/pedi! My cuticles are really ripped up and ragged now. A couple spots have bled a little. I had my appointment Thursday night and by Saturday night I have multiple chips in a few nails. This salon just looks cool and appealing to visit than the actual service itself, I got a gel mani the first time I visited the salon and it lasted 2 weeks until the gel came off. The nail tech cut my cuticle and rushed my service for her next nail appointment I could tell the nail tech was trying to squeeze in every appointment she had for the day. My nail tech also was complaining about the owner during my service because the owner disappeared leaving my nail tech to keep answering the phone whenever it rang instead of accommodating me and my time. Apparently something the owner does frequently. The second time I came to the salon I got gel mani, no complaints with the service, but I was also one of the last customers so obviously there was no rush with future appointments. The third time I came to local honey I got a regular pedi, I like the gel they used to soak your feet in but questioned how sanitary it was and after the service I came home to one of the nails still being wet and the paint was removed. I had to come back the next day to get it fixed, free of charge. Another nail chipped 3 days later. I gave a generous tip for the woman who gave me a pedi and you could tell how grateful she was, was nice to see her gratitude. I thought I was getting the happy hour special; however, you have to sign up during the exact time as the special in order to get the deal, which is not clearly defined online. The leg block kept on falling off due to her movements and she scraped the side of my foot which did not result in a pleasant surprise when placing the foot back into the jelly scrub. I first started coming to Local Honey since December. I just cannot go anywhere else. First of all, the staff is very friendly and encouraging to one another which is awesome. I see Nima for my nails. I get acrylics. She's been my go to girl since I met her. But Sonia and Sarah also do acrylics, and I have also worked with them both, and let me tell you their hearts are so into what they do...these people produce beautiful work or even just give lovely simple manis and pedis too.
