Went in mid day on a week day for a walk in gel pedicure. I am an extremely picky pedicure customer after dealing with many chop shops that re-use tools and rush you in and out. Well, I can see why so many businesses continue to flip flop and fail in the city. If you can't look at people in face and tell them you're running behind at a salon, then maybe considering something else for a living or hiring front desk. I booked an appointment out of my way on classpass to visit spa Ella in order to use this months final credits and paid for an upgrade as well in order to get gel. As you can see, I've been here several times and have left positive reviews, but this is the first time I've come here with classpass. Clearly the owner treats people differently based on the way that they book because she's usually extremely nice. When I walked in the door today, the owner didn't even look up from who she was helping. I told her I had an appointment and I suppose she might know that because it's at 7:15pm and it was 7:05 when I arrived. It took her 5 minutes to even tell me to have a seat near a manicure station, just since the lounge was taken. I asked to leave to go get a meal since I rushed over from my second job and came back and still waited over 40 minutes to be assisted WITH an appointment. She probably will do a bad job once I get to her as well, if she happens to read this prior to assisting me. Since it's close to end of day, she's overbooked and rushing, I understand you are busy, but you should be kind to every client who walks in your door and greet them with care irregardless of how they book. How do you know I was not going to add on a massage or give a huge tip? You don't. This is a place I won't be going back to, and she is clearly doing so well that she doesn't care about people who book on classpass. Thanks for the long wait. Pros: They take walk in Close to where I live They don't bother you with small talk which I appreciate Its a quiet salon, the workers aren't super chatty with each other They're very friendly The paint job is really good Cons: I paid extra for the massage but it honestly wasn't very good, I'd recommend skipping it if they try to upsell you They work very fast and aggresively on removing your cuticle so it was uncomfortable and a little painful at times. Just had one of the worst nail experiences of my life. The tech kept scratching at my gel nails instead of simply wrapping them in more acetone per my request. Layers of nail was peeling off and it became a painful process. Finally requested to not have new gel applied and I was charged $30 for the simple botched removal and then barked at for a tip, which I of course gave. Solid 3.5 stars for how close this is to my work and for the ease of finding a spot! I really was hoping to see about other nail salons closer to work for a quick lunch break manicure, and decided with the high reviews, let's give Spa Ella a whirl! I called ahead to make a 1PM appointment this afternoon with Ella herself, but she wouldn't fit me in until 2:30PM. I was reluctant then to continue to book the appointment, but I did anyway. I was taken immediately with a younger Asian girl. She was really attentive and gave awesome care to my nail shape and my cuticles haven't been this clean in a LONG time, but the polish job was a bit meh. The outer edged around the nail are not cleanly cut and look amateur. I almost feel like I shouldn't of given the tip BEFORE finishing my nails. From far away, my nails look great, but upon closer inspection, this was a little sloppy. Oh - and they are little cutie pies that they fail to tell you that some colors on the wall will cost you $2 more because "they dry faster and last longer." I guess that was the case for my pink OPI Shine2 lacquer. I did appreciate that they spray dried my nails twice. Overall, the experience was okay for a quick manicure, but I would try some place else that will be a little bit more careful with your nail polish job. read more

I love this salon for SNS! They're truly skilled. I usually don't get designs, just plain SNZ nail color but recently I had a design done prior to my 2 week trip trip to Greece. I wanted to be super touristy with my nail design and provided a reference pic for design. They executed the design better than the inspo pic! I got tons of compliments when I went in vacation and my nails lasted for a month - didn't have time to go back prior. I came in to get my tips removed and for a manicure with no color polish. I was asked to pay after my tips were removed, before the polish and shaping of my nails. Directly after I paid and also leaving a generous tip, she put the top coat on and told me to go to the dryers to dry my hands. The pictures shown are after I paid, before I had my nails dried. My nails aren't even the same shape! Some are rounded and some are square, not to mention all this gunk that was left under my nails and on my fingers. This was my very first visit and I will not be returning. I'm very disappointed and wish I had spent my money at a place that would have been worth it. I live on Bushwick and normally get my dip powder done in Manhattan. As I drove by grand street I saw this small nail salon a bit skeptical but in desperation of needing my nails done I walked in with my daughter. I was treating my daughter for an excellent report card and me I had not done my nails in over three weeks ( the disaster) not having googled or yelp this salon I tried them anyway. I was extremely satisfied with my nails and my daughters! I loved the smoothness and the texture of the nails. They were not too tick nor too thin the nail shape was a squoval which looked really nice. The manicurist had to cut down my nails because I removed some on my own and damaged them :( she did a great job in correcting them and not going to short. The salon is also very clean and airy, and you get to sit far away from other customers, so I felt pretty safe coming here during a pandemic. I've been going to Spa Ella for maybe almost a year now and I've never had an unpleasant experience. It's a very clean space and has very knowledgeable and friendly staff. They have a wide range of colors whether it be dip powders, gel, or regular nail polish. This was the last nail salon I went to before the COVID-19 lock down and the first salon I went to after nail salons were allowed to reopen. I feel totally safe in this salon. Appointments are required now, face masks are required for all, social distancing is enforced, you are greeted with hand sanitizer and a temperature check upon arrival. I have a large Pinterest board of different nail looks and designs and I try a different look each time I go and they always nail it! I came here a few Sundays ago to get gel manicure and a regular pedicure. To start it's a small shop but it's clean and a nice environment. I went to choose my color for my toes and I just didn't feel like they had many options. I usually look for a pretty standard red, they only had about 10 shades of red that were either closer to berry or orange, not just a true red. But fine, I picked the most normal red that I could find. Next, while one tech starts on my toes, another one asks if she can get started on my nails, which is fine. She finishes filing and shaping my left hand, and before she gets to my right hand another customer walks in so she goes to help her out. Totally fine. Pedicure is finished but we'll get to that. Next is where I get really confused. I showed them the pictures of the holographic looking nails from THIS Yelp page that's in the cover picture. And my nail tech is SO confused. She has NO idea how to achieve this. She has to ask the other nail tech how to do it. They agree that I need a base color and then they will apply the top/shiny finish. She gets started on my nails- she's DOESN'T file or shape my right hand. I have to keep asking her to file + shape each finger because the other nail tech never got to it, but she doesn't really understand. So she applies the base coat and after every application, she DRAGS her nail under my nail bed to try and wipe off excess polish! This is EXTREMELY PAINFUL! After EVERY single application. I was wincing. After, she applied the shiny top coat, poorly. After each finger I have to point out that she missed a huge spot. In the end, under the shop light I felt like "fine" whatever it's finally done. I pay + tip (I always tip), and I leave because I'm so over it, and my nails hurt from her scraping under my nails for an hour. I walk outside and immediately realize this is literally the worst manicure of my life. It's lumpy, it's uneven in color and application, and of course my right hand isn't even shaped or filed like my left hand. I can even see on my toes that she didn't apply the polish evenly, leaving visible lines all over. In addition they played 1 song on repeat for the entire 90 minutes I was in there. I really wanted to love this salon. The price for SNS dip powder was great ($47) and their color selection is larger than any other salon I've seen. But 8/10 fingers have cuts at the base of my nails and I have never left a nail appointment with anywhere near this many nicks on me. I'm very disappointed after seeing such great reviews to be applying Neosporin to all but two fingers. While I'm sure my nails will look great once the cuts have healed, especially with how gorgeous the color is, I can't justify going back. read more

I would give this place a solid 4 solely on the gel paint application but 3.5 for my overall experience. I really wanted to like this place more than I actually experienced because of the reasonable pedi + gel mani price ($45) and the somewhat convenience of the location (it's right off the L train a few stops from my apt) I scheduled for an appointment at 6:45 but came pretty early before 6:30 so I had some bit of a wait. I was able to pick my colors, which they have a great selection of gel colors to choose from. The pedicure seemed just ok - I wish the worker spent more time on the cleaning portion and was a little more diligent on painting. The color application and filing could have been a little better. I specifically requested to have my manicure done by Ella so once my pedicure was done, Ella switched with the other worker so she can get started on me. I think another review mentioned it here already but I was a little thrown off that she didn't soak my fingers in water to soften my cuticles before starting the cleaning process. It did seem a little more rough but that just may be her style. I feel like it would take awhile to get used to. Ella shaped my nails really nicely and was very careful when applying the gel. I requested to have 3 layers and she was totally fine with it. I will definitely have to request her for next time again. I want to try this place again with hopefully a better pedicure experience. I am so so upset about my experience here. Firstly, they posted a Groupon for gel/powder, however, the owner Ella would not honor it saying Groupon made a mistake and its only gel not powder. This seemed like they're using false advertisement to lure in customers and then changing the deal last minute. As an owner you should be polite to customers and Ella was far from that. She behaved as if she can't be bothered. I settled for gel at that point bc I was already there. When ella began doing my I immediately knew she had no idea how to properly handle nails. She filed my nail beds so thin. it literally made my nails so brittle and weak. She literally have my nails breaking. Secondly the next day after doing my nails the gel started to chip. Please see attached photos. What kinda gel are they using that it chips in a day? a week later almost all my nails have broken and are chipping. I've been going to this place for the last 6 months or so to get gel manicures and regular pedicures, and the service has repeatedly fluctuated between 4 and 5 stars. It's a very affordable, no-frills kinda place, so don't expect a luxury spa, but they're nice and courteous, and get the work done quickly and efficiently. What matters to me the most is how long the nail polish stays on, and I'm currently at almost 4 weeks and my gels have not chipped at all. Not once. (This has not always been the case, but it's lasted at least 2 weeks each time.) It's a small space, so try not to get there after work or weekends. I go during the day on weekdays, and it's never too busy. Also, there's a fee for paying with a card, so make sure you bring cash. read more
