She was so super meticulous with the manicure I got, that it looked almost photo shopped. She had steady hands and worked quickly and cleanly. She didn't talk too much, but she really takes pride in her work. I didn't make it easy for her, especially since we had to remove the remaining SNS, but she didn't hurt me or cut my cuticles until I bled. Great success! There were a lot of things I really liked about this salon. It's cozy, just 3 mani stations and 2 for the pedi. There are no fancy tricked out pedi chairs but I still felt comfortable and pampered. I went in after seeing all the great reviews since I was in the area and the receptionist told me it would be a 1/2 hour wait for a mani pedi. No problem. Because it's small and they seem to have a loyal customer following I had no problem waiting a bit instead of trying a few of the nearby places. I loved the huge variety of colors and brands, and especially that they carry Zoya polishes which are some of my favorites (they tend to apply very well and last), but you don't see them in salons very often. I got a really thorough but efficient basic mani-pedi. I was amazed at how quickly she worked and both my fingers and toes looked gorgeous after. Especially since my fingers had a pastel pistachio color that can sometimes apply streakily in the wrong hands. But nope, I got a flawless application. I stayed a bit longer to do an extra drying cycle because I didn't want to mess up the beautiful work I just had done. I'm giving it 3 stars because after only two days both the polish on my fingers and toes started chipping within 2 days. For fingers it's not that unexpected, even though I wasn't very active during that time. I was really surprised the toenail polish began chipping, since I've had good pedis that last 10-14 days unblemished and even longer and I thought the one I got at Freckle would be in the longer-lasting category. The space was a lot smaller and more sparse than I'd imagined, with only two pedi stations, but the technicians are very warm and seem thorough in their service. There were, as I understand from my observations, a number of returning or regular clients that afternoon, which is always an indication of business done well. I went in for a spa pedicure (about $37) and was matched with Annette who had lovely smiling eyes and who immediately set me up with some chamomile tea before starting. She carefully administered all the elements of their spa pedicure -- which were typical of spa pedis at any other salon I've been to -- and was strong in scrubbing my heels, which are pretty awful this time of the year. The salon is close to the Nassau station on the G line. It was a bit of a distance for me (walked from Williamsburg, commuted from Manhattan) but in the end I'm glad I put my money in an honest neighborhood salon where I didn't feel rushed or overlooked. Their nail polish selection includes Essie, Zoya, RGB, and Floss Gloss with two or three Deborah Lippmann choices. I unfortunately did not enjoy my experience although I tried to be open minded and understanding as it seems they may have just moved locations. My original appt was cancelled as I was on my way to the establishment due to electric issues, which, of course is not something Freckle can control, but already kinda starting off not so great as she called me back and forth a total of 6 times. The technician who may be the owner as well seemed super out of sorts and constantly apologized for odd things. I could tell she was super insecure about the set up of the location, the fact the electric went out the dady before etc...but the vibe was making me very uncomfortable bc she was just on her own page and I was hoping to relax during the appt. On to the actual facial, not at all worth the $170 (including tip and a 15% discount for the trouble from the day before). I get facials every 8 weeks without fail and sometimes with less time between. She cleansed my face, maybe did 2 extractions (I asked her to please use her best judgement bc I felt my poors were very clogged but didnt want my face mangled if it wasnt necessary), put a peel on that she cleaned off with a VERY abrasive towel or something and then put an ice cold mask on my face and over my eyes which immediately gave me the worst brain freeze/headache. I mean it was literally on my eyeballs at a ridiculously cold temperature. I sat there for a while and just felt really stressed out, couldnt wait to just get out of there and didnt want to make her feel bad, she was clearly having a rough week. The facial was super unskilled and she used absolutely no tools or frills. I have always paid around the same amount so the price didnt phase me but the fact that she used absolutely not one tool the entire time was just disappointing and the lotions/serums she used on my face seemed really generic as well. I left feeling like wow I could have just done that at home, to then get home and see that all of my pores still are visibly clogged and I had a minor chemical burn on my chin from the peel. I was willing to try this place but when I came in they were busy. So the receptionist told me the wait would be twenty minutes. No problem because I just went to spa and this wasn't planned. The receptionist is nice but too timid, she nice but the need to fix that. She should be more in control of her station and more aware of what client relations is all about. The nail Tec looked mad that I had gel nails. Why ? If this is such a tedious task, the receptionist should filter out the gels from the one day manicure clients. It's a time when 3 out of 5 women have gel nails. And those that don't ,wish they did. So basically the nail tec took someone else while I was gone and didn't have time to soak off. First of all i don't soak. If you have the proper products you should use gel remover sleeve or use foil like the bootlegged places ....at least. That takes ten minutes. Don't mind any misspellings as I am in the hot sun now searching for another nail salon after walking all the way to the polish side to go to this one. I could of stayed on Manhattan ave. So I purchased a Mani, Pedi, & Brazilian Wax deal from livingsocial for me and my friend. My experience with them was complicated. Now let me explain to you below. First, so hard to reach I followed the direction by call them to schedule an appointment instead of walk in. Regardless what time I call, no one answers the phone. Apparently they don't answer phone calls when they are busy with customers. Which is a good thing only when I am the customer being served. I highly suggest them to have an online booking system so we can do it online or simply have a voice mail!!!!!!! Anyway after I called the 1001 times finally someone pick up the call, and of course they are busy and my appointment is push to next week. So I finally got an appointment for me and my girl friend. One day later, they called me back and told me that they can do both me and my friend at the same time, so we have to reschedule, but eventually we settled to do it one by one and wait there. Second, Inconvenience location I live in down town Manhattan and to get to their store I have to transfer to G train, although it is only 15 mins drive from my place to get to their store, but it took me about 1 hr in subway to finally reach their store. Now I have to say the store is clean, small, warm, and sweet. there were two staff in the store and they both were nice (mins one of the ladies asked us to wait for 30 min while she was on the phone, which is fine I guess people all need breaks) Third, Inexperience As I mentioned earlier the staff were nice, but the girl who was helping me seem a little bit not too good at what she does. She spend at least 2-3 mins on painting each fingers, usually if you go to a nail salon, those ladies are very quick and skillful, but she was careful and looks like a new to me. Oh almost forgot to mention she pushed the cuticles but didn't cut it. So I was not happy about that but then later I found out that your cuticles protect your nails from bacteria and keep them soft, so avoid cutting them. But I wonder if she knows that or she just forgot to do it. Above are my experience with their Mani & Pedi, I haven't call then and make the appointment for Brazilian Wax, since it took them about 4 hours to finish both me and my friend. Brazilian Wax is the most unpleasant and painful waxing experience a women has to go thru. i come across this place about a year ago and this is it. The lady that does the waxing is very pleasant. Although brazilian waxes are not meant to be pain free, she definitely tried to make it as painless as possible. She was very thorough and even made sure that it was the way I liked it. She asks many pertinent questions to make sure she gets the shape you want. She even tweezed a couple of hairs she couldn't get with the wax. For that, you can take your butt to the many other nail salons there are in the city. Now, for the actually review. Claire was the one that did my mani-pedi and she was very friendly. She started off with the pedi and although they didn't have the exact color I wanted, I found one that was very similar (Essie Marshmallow). She definitely took her time prepping my feet as well as scrubbing them before she applied the polish. She took her time as well applying the nail polish and cleaned up any mess. After that she did my mani and she filed my nails just the way I wanted. Usually at other places, they make my nails look square and ugly but she did it just right. Overall, I am very satisfied with both services that I received at this place. I did have to wait a bit before I was taken care of but the receptionist made sure that I had something to drink and a magazine to read---she was very attentive. Many that don't live in this part of Brooklyn may find it a bit of a hassle getting here but if you can make the trip it's definitely worth it. So, all the good things people write about Anja are true! Ok, honestly, I've never had ANYTHING waxed before (not lips, eyebrows, legs, nothing). I stuck with traditional shaving and plucking until now. So of course, the first time I try waxing, I go for a Brazilian. Not really the best idea, but I really wanted to try it. Anja is very sweet, personable and patient. I don't know how she does it! Anyway, naturally it hurt in the beginning, but it was definitely bearable. I suppose other spots were more sensitive than others and I was less able to tolerate the pain as time went on. So, Anja recommends that first timers get this done in stages - which I totally went for. I ended up getting a French bikini and I think I might just stick with those! I must mention, I also appreciate Anja's sense of humor. You get the impression that she really loves her work, which is very important for customer satisfaction. I think I may be addicted to waxing now. Oh!! And, she made sure to charge me only for a French bikini instead of a Brazilian! My search for the perfect wax is over! I made a last-minute appointment with Freckle just as a matter of convenience knowing I'd be in the neighborhood later that day. However, I was so impressed with the service in general that Freckle is definitely my go-to spot for hair removal now! I had a 4:45 appointment with Anya for eyebrow, Brazilian, and lip wax (see how many places things could have gone wrong here?) and got there about 10 minutes early. By perfect coincidence it turned out the 4:30 appointment had called saying that she was running substantially late, so Anya just switched us and took me as soon as I walked through the door. Better yet, service was so quick that the late person was essentially taken as soon as she walked through the door herself after I was done! I have never received a faster Brazilian in my life ("We don't want to keep you here any longer than you need to be," said Anya) and it didn't miss a spot. No skin irritation, no ingrown hairs, and best yet it was the least painful treatment I've ever received. Like most women, I'm scared crapless getting my eyebrows done as it seems to be a gamble no matter what. I like mine thick and straight with very little arch (Ms. Hepburn is my eyebrow idol) and Anya did them *perfectly*. I wanted to like this place a little more. They are very friendly, affordable and I had great Mani pedis. The wax was uh...effective so that's good. The space-waxing room was what you'd expect for their low prices but NYC seems to have a plethora of inexpensive wax options. It was all over very bright, outdated, not unclean but could use some serious revamping, the technician did not leave while you undress (not a big deal but unusual for whatever reason idk), she worked in HUGE sections like say 3 -ouch & I usually do not find this painful & have very little fine hair thank god, she did not trim or tidy what was left, but in the end left me crooked :-/ I don't know why I didn't have the great experience others did.
