Family originally from Calexico, CA. Which is right on the southern Ca./Mex. border. Great food!

It's family run restaurant on the far end of marine drive in white rock. Intimate place with not very huge set up but enough to accommodate 15 people max . Bar set up is easy n simple to choose from . All drinks from cocktails to hard liquor is served here n on tables. Food consist of Mexican tacos n fajitas combined with salsa , guacamole n bean paste. Complimentary tacos with salsa was fresh n crispy. I would say rice could have been cooked more. Since they were closing soon so didn't order much on the menu ( as we needed time to eat it all ) Server was really good n concerning. Would go again for Mexican food n fireplace read more

So my original thought of going to this place was because a friend of mine work there..... my mind was completely blown!! From the insanely tasty margaritas with a bit of a kick to the delicious food AKA fajitas was insane! My taste buds were satisfied!! This Boutique Mexican Grill has a quaint patio an absolutely unbelievable atmosphere that just screams sit down eat drink stay for a while and a staff that smiles and makes you feel like your family!!! Good god damn. Came in for lunch with my mom and grandma and we were super impressed. My Grandma has a....unique palette, and eats like a mouse who's just had a gastric bypass. Some might say she has the most severe case of white person palette of all time, and I might agree. Mild salsa when mixed as 80% sour cream and 20% salsa sends her running for the milk. Ground black pepper is like crumbled ghost pepper to her. The owner was super accommodating and changed up the fish tacos to have a vinaigrette slaw with some other unworldly magic, and she loved them. I have not seen her eat more than two bites of anything in over a decade, and she ate all three tacos and is "humanity has just made contact with extraterrestrial life for the firs time, and they've brought everyone free puppies" level of blown away with how good they were. I had the burrito suprema with half chicken half beef, which came with rice and beans, which was super (suprema?) good. The beans taste like they were made by the collective spirit of every Habuela on earth focusing their collective energy into one serving of beans, like a spirit bomb from dragon ball z, except...well, beans. The chicken and beef were both unbelievably tender, without doing that sort of weird fibrous disintegrate-y thing when something has been slow cooked for too long. The sauce they douse it in is now in my top 5 list of liquids I would like to bathe in, just below lime jello and right above Scarlett Johansen's sweat. Hecka good. My mom had a combo plate with the chilli releno, and an enchilada. She is somewhat of a connoisseur of chili relenos, like if there was a branch of the smithsonian devoted to chili relenos, she would curate the hell out of it. She gave it 5 stars, and was quite happy with the enchilada as well. This is my last time having Mexican food in Canada before moving to the UK tomorrow, and I was a bit iffy trying a new place that i hadn't tried before moving to the land of bland food. I couldn't have had less to worry about, for my last time having food with flavour for the foreseeable future, this was a meal to remember. My mom and Grandma are also fairly frail, mom is disabled and right out of the hospital, the owner (I think he was the owner, or a manager maybe?) accommodated room for their walkers and various medical gear wonderfully. Regardless they were super friendly, and I would definitely say White Rock has a great Mexican place again. read more

My hubby came here for dinner without me and raved about the salsa. So much so that we ended up coming here the next night. He was right! The salsa was great, and reminded me of the salsa at one of my favorite Southern California taco places. So they must be doing something right. I had the tostada with chicken and it was so good. We talked to one of the people there (owner?) who told us she was from Southern CA. Perhaps that is why it was so good? If we were ever in White Rock again we would certainly return! read more

I've been looking for a good Mexican restaurant since I moved to the area a year ago. We decided to visit Primo's tonight and have a margarita or two and see what the food was like. The place is quaint and fun. Not too big but not too small. I imagine it gets quite busy on prime nights but Sunday night was a perfect time to go and the location is amazing also! We both got margaritas and agreed that they were the best ones we've had. Not too sweet, not too salty, and come in a huge glass that you almost need two hands for. We got beef taquitos to start which were alright. The meat was on the drier side but it was good. I got the pork street tacos and my friend got enchiladas. The street tacos come in 3's and are very small. I chose pork as usually the pork tacos are always the most flavourful and least dry but these they were quite dry despite the sauce that was added to it. You'd definitely need an appetizer if you wanted this as a meal. My friend wasn't overly impressed with the enchiladas. We noticed other tables got the fajitas and those looked and smelled amazing and we wished we got those instead. The prices were a bit high for what you got and I probably wouldn't go back as it wasn't quite what we were looking for. Others seemed to love it though so give it a try. read more

Awesomely authentic Mexican food. Yes some things are pricey but that is the case with pretty much every restaurant along the strip! Everything is prepared fresh daily and tastes amazing. Would recommend this place to anyone! read more

Where do I start. Joel and his family have yet again created an amazing restaurant. The food is amazing we went back to back weekends we enjoyed it so much. The prawn dinner was amazing. Joel was not happy with the size of the prawns he had ordered so not only did he give me extra with my meal but cooked even more and hand delivered them to our table. They were so good. The fajitas were also amazing. If you have a chance make sure to try the bean dip it was by far the best I have had and was so fresh. read more

We just return from dinner and drinks at Primos. I will never go there again. The food is very overpriced and terrible. 6 jumbo shrimp for $16.00....a $14.00 margarita that I swear was a virgin. Just had lunch at primos. Let me start by saying this is an expensive taco time.... Just because you serve Corona beer and have Mexican music playing does not make you a Mexican restaurant. Took me a good 10 min to decide what was the most authentic thing on the menu I could get. Soup of the day was tortilla and I figured that would be good but in fact this was the most pathetic attempt I've ever encountered to a tortilla soup, might be better of calling it random veggie with chipotle spice and some chips.... Had shredded beef taquitos as well, they most likely came from a freezer bag purchased at Costco a few months back. Just avoid by all means. Do not recommend this, unless you wanna have an awful meal and then pay for it. read more

I'm not a huge fan of Take out anywhere, not usually the best way to experience a meal. So, Primo's Take and Bake is the perfect alternative. A full enchilada dinner for four, pick it up and bake it when you are ready to eat. Delicious!!!!!!!! We will continue to choose this option while dine in is not an option. read more

My husband and I visited Primo's on a Saturday night. Right from the start I was feeling wary about how our experience would play out. The hostess seemed annoyed that we came without a reservation. Then came the service which was mediocre at best. I'm not a high-maintenance person but I think anyone would have agreed our waitress wasn't the friendliest or very attentive. We felt like an irritation to her and she wasn't good at hiding it. Then the food, very bland and badly in need of seasoning and SALT. I also ordered a virgin pineapple margarita and it was the blandest most watered-down thing I'd ever had. In short, WAY overpriced for this kind of sad food and sad service. Two stars for the jalapeño poppers and garlic chutney stuff, but we definitely won't be back. read more

Very disappointing. Not really Mexican or even Tex Mex. It's a very poor Canadian style Mexican. Not even close to the original Primos in Vancouver. Extremely small portions, with no refinement. Hacked up vegetables, tough cheap cuts of meat, uninspiring sauces. Smallest Margaritas I have ever had, not even served in a Margarita glass. Overall, don't waste your money, go out and enjoy a meal at a good restaurant. read more

Start with the Pro's.... the food was good. I had the fajitas and I was impressed. Would rate the food a 4 out of five. My wife also enjoyed her food. Now the bad... the service was horrible. I realize that they haven't even had their grand opening yet but there was no reason why it should have been so slow and no one seemed to care. I would rate the service a 1 out of five. I will consider going back once they've had some more practice and will just hope that I don't get the same waiter. read more

My wife and I went there on a Thursday night for our 14 wedding anniversary just to find the place closed. Well there was I kid riding a scooter around inside but it was closed. The door was open they had a window open.bit it slow as closed .Their web page said they were open Yelp said they were open google said they were open. This was extremely disappointing. Firstly, really enjoyed my experience here, but let's go through the good and not so good. Let's start with the good! Food quality was authentic and excellent! Portion size was decent and everything we had was full of flavour. Margaritas were amazing, one of the best I've probably ever had and comes in a huge cup, highly recommend ordering one for the full Mexican dining experience. Ok, the not so good. The restaurant is very small, so if you go at prime time it's tough to find a table without a longish wait. Prices were higher than normal but nothing crazy, this is to be expected due to the location. Service was good.. but slow, most likely due to being busy, but shouldn't take more than a few minutes to get our drinks.. Overall, 8.2/10. Would come back for sure to try more on the menu, awesome summer spot. read more

Love, love this place. Big portions,lovely ambiance. Makes me want to go to Mexico but if you can't, this is a nice place to go and pretend you are for a while. Service is great really try and go above and beyond. Went for my husbands birthday and allowed him to make a combo out of things on the menu. read more

A newer edition to the White Rock strip that seems like it can stick and gain some local regulars, especially with their tequila and Mexican beer selection. Food was great and always like a free round of chips and fresh pico de gallo. Add the board walk and people watching and it makes for a great day or night spot. read more

The shrimp tacos today blew us away. Shrimp are cooked perfectly (and not battered and fried!), the tortilla was light, and cabbage and mango fresh. Hot sauce was amazing. Margarita was excellent as was the service. Sitting on the patio looking over the beach -doesn't get much better. read more

Prime location with a view of the Bay. The food was good. Loved their salsa. Shredded beef tacos are made with authentic tortilla shell but are on the small side. Great margaritas and a nice atmosphere. The staff was courteous and attentive. read more

Meh .. we've had people tell us it wasn't great but thought we'd try it ourselves. The food was kinda boring and the margaritas barely had any tequila in them. I'm not a huge margarita drinker so when I have them, I usually taste the tequila so for this one not to taste like tequila means they didn't have a lot of tequila in them. Service was rather slow and I think I can make a better tostadas at home. Not sure we'll come back, despite the awesome view. read more

Had a craving for wings and sangria so decided to try this place. We arrived and were seated promptly but waited 5 minutes before the bus person brought us chips and salsa but no drink order taken. The waitress dealt with the table beside us 3 times in the next ten minutes but not us. Then got orders and drinks for a table seated after us. When she finally got to us she immediately pushed us to order margaritas. I asked about jugs of sangria but they only had them by the glass. She was quick to point out they had jugs of margaritas. The sangria was advertised as having slush. I asked about this and was advised there was a very small amount of slush on top. They arrived with some sort of strawberry slush taking up 1/3 of the glass. They tasted like koolaid and were simply disgusting. I ordered a beer. We ordered the chipotle wings. They brought lime wings. When we said this she said the kitchen messed up. 2 minutes later our wings were back. It was the same lime wings but tossed in a chipotle sauce. The lime taste over powered it. Quite simply the worst wings ive ever had. Now the main course. My girlfriend had pork tacos. Bland.. bland.. bland. Literally no taste what so ever. I had the combo with chicken enchilada and poblano pepper. The plate was small and over filled. It was impossible to tell what was what as it was all just covered in a greasy sauce and way to much cheese. Just a horrible mess. We ate paid and left. I tend to come here every month to treat myself with their giant margaritas, jalapeño poppers and burrito! It was a drizzling, chilly day in White Rock, BC when I crossed the threshold into Primos Mexican Grill which overlooked the Geogia Staits that we're oinously dark for a mid afternoon in late September. That moment as me and my wife walked in, our gloomy demeanours were dispelled by the guitar sting sounds of Mariachi Mexican Music, which I always find uplifting. The furniture and decor harkened back to Old Mexico. Before I knew it I felt as if I was back in the Baja on Rosarita Beach. We we're pleasantly greeted by Joel, whom we found out later was a descendant of the founder. We intantly relaxed at a table next to the bar and surveted what was a simple menu of the most usual and identifiable fare. As a long time San Diegan, I can be pretty tough on Mexican restaurants, especially here in the land of Tortiere and Maple Syrup. I ordered a chicken quesadilla, but my wife asked for a Shrimp Quesadilla (not on menu). Joel, now our waiter simply smiled and said *No problem!" Right answer!!! When our meals came out, Chile Rellenos came up, which are my favourite dish. 5 minutes later, he brought a small plate for us to try their version of my favorite entree. It was fabulous. I recommend it, even though they used banana peppers instead of Poblanos. Good luck finding those in the Great White North! We really wanted Mexican food. This was not it. We ordered 2 street tacos and got something that looked canned meat on barely warm tortillas. $4 each! Also ordered the beef & chicken enchiladas. Went to Primo's for a romantic valentines lunch and boy was this place perfect. We sat by the fireplace, we ate the most amazing tortilla soup, had great drinks and fantastic food. Our server Joel was superb; attentive, knowledgeable, and really friendly. Honestly I would highly recommend this restaurant and until March you even get free parking. Get out to Primo's and have a wonderful Mexican experience. read more

My first time visiting this restaurant and it'll definitely be my last. I had the worst experience It totally ruined my whole day. My family and i were excited to have a wonderful late lunch and enjoy the beautiful scenery but unfortunately that was all ruined with the worst Mexican food i have ever had I first ordered a pineapple margarita that had absolutely no taste And waited half an hour to get, while the rest of my family had their drink. I had ordered the ceviche and my husband ordered the taquitos the plate was so ridiculously big and the taquitos so tiny. I myself was excited to have ceviche or should I say onion ceviche it was literally an onion salad with a bit of tomatoes. Though we were not satisfied my husband was still hungry and I felt terrible as it was my suggestion to go to this place I insisted we ordered something else. I then ordered another dish which was so disappointing and to make things worst after two drinks and three appetizers our bill was $87.00 including a 18% gratuity which the server discretely forgot to mention. Not impressed. Wait staff not very helpful. Food was half decent for me (2/5) Decent for my gf (2.5/5) Was held off by staff from accessing one of the two available tables outside as they were "holding them for someone" that was to show up within 10 min. Well, they never showed and the tables sat empty the entire time we were there. When I asked staff if they reserve certain tables, they answered No. Weird. As I was leaving I commented "I guess they didn't show within the 10 minutes", I was then told by staff that they were holding the two, of only three patio tables, for the owners friends that didn't end up showing. Nice to know they like to play favourites. Let's just say I won't be coming back to this dive, especially when there are several better options a stone throw away. I don't see this place standing the test of time much like many other restaurants that don't take care of the locals, especially being on the strip. I don't understand why the ones that fail don't understand that it's the locals that keep the lights turned on in the winter. Anyhow, this place will soon find out after summer when they're wondering why it's so empty, everyday. I truly believe that this place won't be here in 2 years from today. read more
