Came here as my boyfriend surprised me with a booked weekend trip to the nearby resort. He had previously came to Paso Del Norte with his guy friends twice, as they live near the border. My boyfriend ordered a chicken burrito and I ordered the Shrimp burrito. Good portion sizes and service was average. The complimentary chips and salsa are different and cute. Am giving this place a 1 star mainly due to the fact that I got severe food poisoning from this place - worst I ever had and ended up having to take a few days off of work to recover and "slept" on my bathroom floor because it was so bad. My boyfriend later said his friends have gotten stomach issues a few times they have gone but nothing as bad as I got. Said I shouldn't have ordered seafood but we are literally right next to the Ocean! Beware of ordering seafood from here. I ordered a vegetarian burrito- beans, rice, tofu, sour cream, garnished with salsa and chopped lettuce- the only thing that was a bit unappealing was the sauce seemed a bit watery around the burrito. We had just traveled up from Seattle to stay in Birch Bay. My husband suggested Mexican food. Washington isn't known for its Mexican fare and I grew up in Southern California, love Mexican food; my husband in Tacoma and has traveled to Cabo and Baja. We have had bomb Mexican and bad Mexican. We both agreed this is the worst Mexican we have ever had. They have this weird cole slaw shit they put in my burrito, the rice tasted Asian and the carne asada was bland and minimal. My husband had chicken tacos el pastor and the chicken only had the flavor of the char. I ate two bites and couldn't do it. My husband ate two tacos and was done. We almost told the waitress this was inedible but didn't want to cause a scene. We sucked it up, paid and left. Never again. read more

Ambiance: For a Thursday night, I was happy to be seated at a table in a new section with no others around. One of the things I can no longer tolerate is not being able to have a "6-inch voice" conversation in a restaurant. Loud restaurants with either in-house music or just loud talkers is something I avoid in my old age so I really appreciated the calm and quiet ambiance. Service: While there was a bit of a wait at the entrance even after being acknowledged by staff, we were seated within five minutes. The server was nice, polite, and attentive. First of all, we had to wait 45 minutes for a table but we didn't mind because we had heard the food was super good! And while our meal was great especially the queso, our server was very slow and it took so long for us to even order and especially to get our food. It did taste amazing though. Everything here is frozen. All they do at these types of restaurants s freeze everything and just defrost and microwave. We had prawns de Diablo. I asked the server over and over if the shrimp was frozen. He said no it's fresh. We got our prawns and they were inedible. That's not the only thing we have had. Fajitas for two very dry. We had a new dish after reopen it started with an m and it was served in a bowl with cactus which was inedible. We nicely left a good tip because service is great, always. read more

I really enjoyed almost every aspect of this restaurant, the wait staff is excellent, the decor is one of thr best I've seen at a Mexican restaurant, carpets were spotless and vibrant, the food was hot, everything seems worthy of five stars. Service was a bit slow initially but the food came out fast. They provided a kind of pickled coleslaw dish with the salsa which was good together. We have been coming here for the past few years and in my humble opinion, it's clearly the best in the area. The booths are large and roomy, many of them with a peak-a-boo view of the water. They have their own parking lot/or plenty of street parking. The service is friendly whether you are a local or not. Everything we have ordered here has been exceptional. In the small, friendly town of Blaine, right on the border to Canada, we found an amazingly delicious Mexican restaurant that is a must hit for anyone looking to fill their taco or burrito needs! We had a great meal here and each of us loved what we ordered. I had a massive burrito, my wife had an enchilada & chimichanga plate, and our 2 year old had a taco! Served, of course, with refried beans, rice, chips & salsa this was a feast for our tummies! Not to mention the margaritas! Oh yeah! The service was sensational! They made sure that not only my wife and I were happy, but also paid close attention to our toddler ... very impressed that they made sure NOT to serve his food on a hot plate! This type of attention was so appreciated and something that many places don't think of. Being from the Chicago area, we got used to having wonderful Mexican food at our fingertips. Now living in Seattle we have been utterly disappointed with this cities Mexican food options. We got our fix up in Blaine, at Paso del Norte. It had no where near the tastes of authentic Mexican food. I totally know that the restaurant industry is having a hard time with help these days. This was the biggest shock of our small weekend vacation. Jokingly we are always looking for good Mexican in Washington state, that tends to be hard to find. However we were pleasantly surprised with this location. We didn't expect much going in because it looks like most Americanized Mexican restaurants in United States especially in the PNW, however the food was great, and the service was good. We ordered the queso dip with chorizo, we thought the salsa was amazing. I had the Carnitas, and my friend had the taquitos and a tamale. There was an abundance of food. We really felt like it was delicious it was hot, the service was friendly and the location and atmosphere were welcoming. We had read a review that had been posted from someone just a few days before that almost made us go somewhere else. However we both got guacamole on our plates and thought it was delicious we also thought the salsa was delicious. We didn't try any drinks maybe the next time we're in town though, they had what sounded like an amazing piña colada with a strawberry purée swirl. I also got the fried ice cream and my friend got the churros churros came with strawberry purée and so did the find ice cream and both were delicious. I'm not going to take a star away for what will be my only two cons. One being that the place needs a serious scrub down just to get rid of the grime in the muck. There was a vent above us on a wall, and it looked like it had never been cleaned before. And the only other thing is the bathrooms are in a very weird place. I need a bit of updating. read more

Y'all. Picture this: Texas girl, living in Alaska for 7+ years, travels down the ALCAN and crosses into the good ol' US of A in Blaine, Washington. She's skeptical about this purported Mexican food joint right off the beach, but I'm so desperate I let my stomach overrule my mind. It was absolutely the right choice. First, you know those great Tex-Mex joints throughout small town Texas that all kinda look and smell and sound the same? Mine was a family-owned affair called Marisabel's with mariachi music piped throughout, the smell of fresh tortillas permeates the air, and booths all generously sized and covered in local business advertisements? THIS IS JUST LIKE THAT. It was like stepping back into south Texas, and made my little heart flutter. The fresh tortilla chips arrive with salsa and a slaw concoction - I immediately test the chips and they're perfect: crispy, brown, not too greasy, and definitely substantial enough to hold up to a hefty glob of salsa. The salsa was a bit different than I was used to, more smoky and hot sauce influenced than the roasted tomatoes and jalapeños of my roots, but it had a nice kick and I was digging that after years of "Alaska spicy" foods. Next was the jalapeño margarita and let me tell you, it did NOT disappoint. There was pureed jalapeño (seeds and all!) floating in this grande margarita and two sips in, my lips burned. I was in love. At this point, I was tempted to order everything on the menu, but we opted for the good ol' favorites given how much everything had exceeded expectations to this point. Queso? Check. Mixed Fajitas? Check check. Combo plate with enchilada and tamale? Now we're talking. The queso wasn't your Texas-traditional super-yellow, it had more of a queso blanco tint, but you could see the peppers chopped up in it, and taste a hint of smokiness. Nice, thick consistency that complimented the tortilla chips well, and a portion generous enough to take some home for a late night snack. Fajitas came out sizzling so loudly, my mouth salivated before I saw the waitress. The fajitas were surprisingly well seasoned, not too overpowering as to hide the juicy steak and chicken, and those onions and peppers were perfectly roasted. Along with your sizzling hot heap of mixed fajitas, you also get a side plate of refried beans, rice, guac and slaw. The slaw must be a PNW thing, 'cause I was kinda meh, but I wasn't really expecting it to wow. The rest was on point, and exactly what you'd expect from good Tex-Mex. I shoveled 3 fully dressed fajitas into my mouth before having to call uncle and pack the rest up for tomorrow's lunch. My dining companion reported that the enchilada sauce was divine, and the tamale was well-balanced between pork and masa. I unfortunately can't verify any of this because she ate it ALL before I could sneak a bite! Service was always present when we needed, never when we were discussing or deciding - a talent for sure. O-M-G!! One of the most authentic Mexican in Blaine!! Hubby was picking up parcels and I was hunting for some eats around the area, he drove by and decided to give it a try, we are definitely going back :) Menu have tons of choices that cater to the not so adventurous eater, also have kids menu for the Littles. Parking is on the street but whoever been to Blaine would know that this is not a very busy town, so parking was easy to find. You get the old school restaurant layout and vibe as you walk in, not you typical restaurant in Vancouver. Feels dirty and dark (even a little sketchy?!) but we all know that's where we usually find the gem Upon sitting they quickly brought water, menu along with warm chips, it was super crispy and just the right size for scooping and 2 types of salsas (wet which have a bit of a kick and dry which is refreshing). Tonight it was just hubby and I plus a toddler so we didn't order too much, we went for fajita for two and we choose both chicken and beef along with flour tortillas (you have the option of just getting just one type of meat or both along with flour tortilla, corn tortilla or both). Server said the portions can feed up to 3-4 people so we only went with just the one dish. It was served with rice, beans, salsa, cheese and sour cream. Food arrived fairly quickly on a sizzling hot plate, both hubby and I each received a large plate filled with refined beans with melted cheese on top, rice, dry salsa with a large dollop of sour cream, it was a very generous portion . There was also 8 piece of warm flour tortillas served in a covered container. In the sizzling plate, there was a lot of onions along with good amount of green peppers served with our choice of meat (chicken & beef) meats on the plate are well seasoned, chicken was good, tender and cut into small long pieces, while beef was on the dry side as it was still cooking when it arrived on our table in the hot plate. You can get creative and wrap your meat and sides whichever way you like it, it was super satisfying! Don't forget to order margarita!! This is not the ones that is filled with sugar! We ordered the large which is their smallest size. It has so well balanced compared to some places which is just sugar, their rim have just the right amount of salt as well, I say get a DD and keep it coming!! Last but not least we bill came to $45(ish) American, which I feel was worthy of every dollar as we were all so satisfied, I was in food coma. Their bill also have Canadian conversation so you can pay Canadian (their conversation rate was 1.28!! We live in Canada but visit blaine frequently, and have been meaning to visit this restaurant for some time now (the Mexican food scene in Canada SUCKS, to be perfectly honest). We finally had a chance to step in for lunch. We started with an order of chicken wings, which were fantastic. I would go back just for the wings alone. I had a deluxe burrito with chicken and a hard shell taco with ground beef. The taco was pretty good, but the burrito was pretty bland and the chicken, while moist, was rather tough. I would not order a burrito again. My dining partner had some kind of shrimp dish, and she really liked it. Our server was very friendly, but really, really slow. We waited about 10 minutes before he greeted us, our drinks went unfilled, and we had to wait another 25 minutes or so four our bill at the end of the meal. Luckily we weren't in a rush, but I wouldn't want to do r here if I was pressed for ti e. Overall this is ok mexican food. We will almost certainly return, although it would be nice if they could fix the blandness issue with the burrito. read more

There is a parking lot to the side or street parking out front and both have entrances the building. They have some great are and decor through the building and everyone was friendly. They have indoor or outdoor seats and some seats you have a view of the boat harbor. We got seated right away, drink orders taken and brought promptly. We had a hard time making up our minds so had to have our server come back and she didn't seem to mind at all. One of us got the tacos el pastor the steak was good quality but a bit salty. I got the Supreme taco salad no tomatoes it was yummy. Sometimes you get wet lettuce so I can be hesitant to order taco salad however here that dis not seem to be an issue, yay. And of coarse I had to bring home some mini churros to eat once I had room. The churros were good, the texture was more chewy than ones I have had before but they were still good. Last night of our camping trip we decided to try this place. It's a bit of an 80's feel and a kind of run down. I am not sure if they were short handed when we came in or just had a busy spell but it looked a number of tables had not been bused and all the plates and food was just sitting there. Upon seating the 4 of us and they gave a very small basket of chips, which we quickly devoured. We did have to ask to have them refilled. The menu had lots of options and prices seem consistent with other restaurants. I had the Arroz con Pollo and it was a huge serving.....of rice, with some onions, peppers, mushrooms and a bit of chicken. It was flavorful in a tomato soup kind of way. My wife and kids had chimichangas and they all enjoyed. I wouldn't say it is bad but I wouldn't go out of my way to hit again. The server was friendly and seemed fairly attentive. read more
