I'm always on the hunt for good Mexican cuisine and Ay Chihuahua has made it onto my list! In the spirit of those unofficial holidays... it was #NationalTacoDay and there was no way I was going to end the day without eating any tacos. I happened to be in White Rock for a meeting so I popped into Ay Chihuahua right before to grab a quick bite. The set up is similar to fast casual. You order at the counter and they bring it out to you when it's ready. They have an assortment of different Mexican dishes - tacos, burritos, tostadas, quesadillas, etc. Since it was #NationalTacoDay, I opted for two chicken and one fish taco. I thought they'd be on the smaller side, so I also got a tortilla soup. Holy hell, the portions are large! I ended up eating everything because no taco left behind... but I was STUFFED by the end of my meal. The chicken tacos were really good, but I LOVED the fish tacos. The batter was extra crispy and flavourful, which I always look for with fish tacos. I could eat at least 10 more of these. The lady taking my order was very kind and welcomed me the minute I walked into the restaurant. It's located in a strip mall, so there is limited parking right out front, but there is a ton of parking behind the building, which was nearly empty. The quality of the food at Ay Chihuahua is very good. The portions are incredibly generous. There is parking beside it and there's also a bus stop right out front. The service is friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. The prices are reasonable given the portion size. The chimichangas are my favorite. read more

Looking for Mexican food in the South Surrey/White Rock area - Yelp brought me here. Ay Chihuahua is located in a pretty tiny strip mall, next to Starbucks, with limited free parking but there is a decent amount of seating inside the restaurant. It was great entering the restaurant to be greeted right away and to hear Spanish being spoken amongst the staff - legit right? I decided on Tacos (Carne Asada, Al Pastor and Carnitas). The tacos came with double soft corn tortillas, tender meats and topped with a good helping of cilantro, onions and guacamole sauce. For 3 tacos it was $11, and it was quite filling because the tacos were packed with a generous amount of meat. My boyfriend had the Quesadilla. The Pico De Gallo that came with it was very fresh and zesty. We shared a Horchata together and it was exactly as I wanted, deliciously creamy with a good cinnamon taste. Part way through I saw the Yelp Check-in Offer for a free taco with a purchase and the owner was really pleasant with accepting the offer and made up a fresh Chicken Taco for me. Came here since I was in the area. I ordered the carne asada tacos, rice and beans. The beans were good, I liked it. I'm not sure if I came on an off day, but the tacos weren't what I was expecting. Lack of flavour, and they didn't have any salsas, no verde or spicy. Only the guacamole salsa. Or maybe I should have got a different flavour, but carne asada is usually my go to. I just finished eating here and I'd like to share my experience. I'd give this place a 3.5 - 4ish. I originally ordered one fish taco, one tamale and a side of rice & beans. I paid for my meal and afterwards they said they didn't have anymore tamales so they suggested a tostada instead but I didn't know what a tostada was so I asked for a flauta. If there was a difference in price, it wasn't mentioned, nor was a reimbursement offered; but I did notice that a tostada is cheaper than a tamale... So here's my two cents on the food. The rice and beans were pretty good. The beans were refried and came with a few of their homemade tortillas which were thick and crispy. I got two flautas which were covered in lettuce, tomatoes, cilantro and a drizzle of sour cream and were fried to a perfect crunch. I found the filling to be almost too much filling, so I ended up picking some out and leaving it on the plate. These were probably my favorite thing from the order. And here's where the order fell short: the fish taco. I think the fish they used were fish sticks which, coming from a place that's authentic and homemade as this, I was pretty disappointed. They were served with lettuce, red onions, radishes and chipotle mayo. I don't know if it was the unexpected flavor of the radish or the chipotle mayo, but it felt... off somehow. I usually order fish tacos whenever its available on a menu so I've had my fair share of them to compare to, and these ones I definitely won't be ordering again. But honestly, I would go back again.The two ladies at the front were very nice (aside from the tamale/tostada incident), the place is very clean, and I didn't wait long at all for my order. I'm curious to try the different things they offer on their menu, and maybe get a chance to finally try a tamale. read more

The burrito I ordered came out as a wet burrito (they didn't ask how I wanted it). Ingredients didn't taste fresh and was very watery (tacos were dripping water too). Big portions but poor quality. Had a delicious Dinner of Fluetas - never had them before. I had the vegetable ones and my friend had chicken. Topped with greens, guacamole, fresh tomatoes, sour cream, and a couple of delicious sauces. We both were very pleased with our meals. I tried a cucumber-lime drink which the lovely, helpful girl at the counter invited me to sample first, and found it very nice - refreshing, not too sweet, a delightful experience. This is a casual, order from the counter restaurant, there's a window bar and tables to sit at and it is good value. While we were there it seemed everyone who came was a regular happy customer. Two sets of people told us "everything here is good". We will definitely recommend this restaurant and will most definitely return. read more

Very authentic, delicious, crazy good food! Called in and asked the lady if I could order some take out, she was very nice on the phone and helped me choose exactly what I was looking for. Order was ready in 15mins, upon arrival I was greeted by the lady herself (I'm assuming the owner) and her husband (also assuming the owner), but genuinely the lady was so nice, you can tell they really care for their business and put a lot of effort into it!
