It's that time of the year for me to go get my eyes checked so I could get my contacts prescription. I decided to go to Prime Eye Center not only because I had personally met Dr. Castro from salsa dancing many years ago, but also because Dr. Castro had actually performed an eye exam for me before he had his own practice. Therefore, I felt like I would be a little more at ease during the examination.
When I put in the address in my Waze GPS app, I didn't realize that I was going to be going to the Walmart located off of the Beltway and Westview (I already knew exactly where this Walmart was) and as I was following direction from Waze, it actually led me to some open field behind and across from Walmart. But common sense told me to check Walmart, and voila! I was right.
I came in on a Saturday afternoon and didn't make an appointment. There was no other patient in there except for myself. And even though Dr. Castro had performed my eye exam before, as I stated above, this was while he was employed by another establishment and so I had to fill out the one-page patient questionnaire. It took me less than five minutes to complete it. After I turned in the questionnaire to the front desk lady, she led me toward the back so she could perform the initial check up. This took approximately another 10-minutes. After she was done, I was asked to wait outside while she went and told Dr. Castro that I was ready for him
I was called into the exam room and while Dr. Castro performed the eye exam, he also made small talks about other things. Throughout the whole process, he was polite, friendly, and most important of all, he was able to answer any questions that I had for him. After the exam, I also told him about my wanting to do a lasik eye surgery within the next year or two and he informed me that he actually works with a lasik surgeon (he gave me a name but I can't remember it for the life of me) where Dr. Castro would do all the initial consult and aftercare while the surgeon will perform the surgery (of course there will be consultation with the actual surgeon as well - but I'm limited to so many words I can type on here).
The whole exam took about 30 minutes and I walked out of there with a brand new pair of trial lenses, a prescription, and the confidence of knowing that Dr. Castro is probably going to be my go-to eye doctor in the future.
If you live near this area, I highly recommend that you go see him for your eye exams! He's independent from Walmart so he's not going to try to pressure you to purchase your glasses or contacts from the store that's next door to him. He only cares about your eye health!!
P.S. He doesn't accept American Express. read more
