It wasn't gross but it was the worst Mexican I've ever had. I'm not picky and I love Mexican but the food had NO flavor. First the chips were good but the salsa was just liquified bland flavorless tomatoes. If there were other ingredients, I couldn't tell. Mild is an understatement. My husband and I both ordered the flautas. Served hot, but tasted like nothing. I asked for their spicy salsa alternative which is salsa verde and pico. Poured it all over my food and added salt and pepper. Still tasted like nothing. Squeezed my lemon from my water over my food, stirred it all up and ate it. Blah. Even though the service was good, the decor was nice, and everything was clean, I'm still giving two stars for flavorless food. Children would probably tolerate it though. read more

Terrible. The food was bland, had some nasty brown "enchilada" sauce, the rice wasn't even made right. The tamale I ordered was dry, and tasted like it had been frozen until I ordered it. The meat in the enchiladas were tasteless, no spice to them or anything. The only thing I enjoyed was the "guacamole" which was actually just mashed avocados and tomatoes, which was fine as it was probably the only thing in the entire meal that was fresh. I did not enjoy eating this at all, and I only did cause I paid for it. That being said, the price is slightly above normal for a Mexican place. read more

Went last night with the lady and tried this place out. Our server was nice and friendly and the booth was very clean. We ordered the large guacamole and found it wanting. The server was about the quantity of a single avocado with diced tomatoes on top. It didn't seem to have any seasoning. It was just plain mashed avocado. As we lamented the purchase another order of guacamole came out. The server was surprised that we already had ours. I had the tamales with beans and rice. Everything was kind of bland except for the sauce that was thinly spread on the tamales. I mixed it into everything and would have loved to of had about half a cup more of it. She had another dish of which I can't remember but seemed to like it. For me it was a solid miss. Willing to give them another shot but I think the building that kills businesses is going to strike again. read more

We got food poisoning here. Four of us ate there and we took one to-go order. The three of us who had chicken got violently ill. The two who didn't have chicken were fine. One of us is a nurse practitioner, and she confirmed that it was indeed food poisoning. We called to talk to the management (including the owner) and they brushed us off. No attempt at customer service whatsoever. They took no responsibility and claimed it had to be a virus, not their food. Yet, somehow, the "virus" affected only those people who ate chicken. (This included the one who had virtually no contact with the rest of the group, aside from receiving a takeout order with chicken.) I called the Greene Country Health Department and they also confirmed that it was indeed food poisoning. I would never eat there again. read more

We really enjoyed this place. Food was great with me having their awesome taco salad and hubby having their enchilada dinner. We shared a flan for dessert and it was wonderful. I am from Texas, and this is the BEST Mexican food I have found in Springfield in the 5 yrs. I have lived here.. I would go every week like I used to do in Texas, but my waist band won't allow it. Everything is fresh and very flavorful. I highly recommend this place for good, good Mexican!! We had a waitress that was so very honest. The person I was with was older and it looked like a $40 tip, when it was in fact a $4.00 tip. Before she entered the tip amount into the computer, she verified with him the correct amount instead of ripping him off. WISH I had gotten her name. She was wonderful! I would say 3 out of 5. I have been to this location twice now and the chesterfield location probably 10 times. I truly enjoy Mexican food and this location is closer to home. Last night we went for Cinco de Mayo-Duh who didn't eat Mexican food yesterday?! We had a wait of about 15 minutes to sit outside so we went to the bar. The bartender was clearly very busy but made us feel like we were the only people in there. She did a great job of interacting with us and got our drinks promptly. When we headed outside out table has salsa and queso from the people before on it. GROSS. We had no napkins or silverware to clean it up ourselves. We just put our plates around it (or over it) and continued on with our meal. We both ordered their taco salads which are pretty large and very tasty! I loved the mound of sour cream mine came with! We also ordered queso for an app and it stated it was made with Mexican sausage. When it came out it was plain and tasted plain. All in all, they have good, not great food but my experiences so far is the establishment is dirty. read more

First off - I cannot wait until it's warmer. This spot has an awesome outdoor seating area. I want to take exception to negative reviews for this place. The cleanliness was far above most and defiantly better than standard around town Mexican. No dimly light cluttered rooms with day glow yellow walls here. Neat clean tidy. Modern. Now for the food- Have you ever had flank steak on a menu? Anywhere? They have it here and it is amazing. So well seasoned. Tender and perfectly and I mean perfectly cooked to a nice mid well. Large portions. If you are a fajita lover - bring your appetite and try the shrimp. And the fresh rice was really something I've never enjoyed outside of an ex boyfriend's Puerto Rican mothers kitchen. Do you like chips? Theirs are thin, crispy, warm and not overloaded with salt. The salsa tasted fresh and was served with a spoon and a smaller bowl for each person. No double dipping no way!So A+ for food. Everyone and I mean everyone in my large party enjoyed the food. And they have you covered should you not want Mexican.... No one in my party was drinking alcohol but their drink menu looked diverse and loaded with tasty margarita drinks. The service was polite, efficient, calm and attentive. Had great knowledge of the dishes and ingredients. Trained well. Good food to serve hopefully making good tips for all their effort. Easily the nicest service staff in any Mexican place around . Lots of large groups and smaller group were easily accommodated. But , there were lots of couples out too on a rainy Friday night. It's a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere with attention to detail from their staff. Laura and Sarai are especially attentive and remember are "usual" food and drink favorites. They suggest new flavors to try too. I highly recommend the guacamole and el pastor tacos are a favorite. If you like to kick it up a notch add the fried jalapeños to anything-spicy! Ok, not sure what's going on with this place lately, but it's really gone down hill. Not that long ago, we use to love it here, in fact our after church lunch group use to keep this place in our rotation, because we always had good service, and good food. I had family come down from Iowa for a graduation last week, and when deciding on a place to eat, I mentioned this place for the aforementioned reasons. We were a party of seven, which was not a big deal, since they were very slow this day. The server was practically non existent, and the food was sub par. I think Taco Bell would have been a better choice than here this day. We were very disappointed, and they did not leave a good first impression on my family from out of town either. I hope it was just an off day, but in all honesty, when my wife and I came here about 2-3 months ago, it wasn't as good as it use to be back then either. If this is the new normal for this lace, then I think next time we'll go to Cielito Lindo's instead. As of right now, this place is as bad as purple burrito (which is pretty dang bad) in our book. I will not recommend this restaurant. Went there on a Sunday evening. Service was severely lacking. We had to ask for napkins and forks which arrived after the food was served. From the time we ordered it took about 30 minutes to get the food, and another five minutes to get a fork so we could eat. We had to ask for refills--which came slow. It wasn't even very busy. They don't automatically serve ice water, or silverware in napkins. When you ask for silverware you only get a fork--no spoon or knife. The pictures of the food shown on yelp are misleading. The food was just ok at best. Nothing special. I had three fish tacos which were comprised of flaked tilapia and lettuce. The seasoning tasted almost like lemon pepper which was a bit odd for Mexican cuisine. It also came with what [they] call black beans, but was more like watered-down refried beans. The rice was a bit overcooked, so I mixed it with the beans to offset the wateriness of the beans. We ordered a large bowl of guacamole (about five tablespoons for $5) with our chips. It was the best thing we ordered. It was fresh and made of whole avocados not soupy at all. I recommend it. The mild salsa that comes with the complementary tortilla chips was watery and really tasted like watered-down marinara sauce with powered Parmesan cheese mixed in and a few pieces of diced tomato. the average price is $12 a plate without a drink. This was the worst Mexican food I have ever had in my life. I had a shrimp Chimichanga (sp). Instead of white cheese sauce on top the sauce seemed to be cream of chicken soup and cheese sauce mixed together. Whatever it was I did not dig it at all. It was actually a little more expensive than some of the other Mexican restaurants in the area so I expected more.. Not less. This restaurant is great with their advertising of using local ingredients. Their waitress and waiters are great and that is why I gave them that 1 star. I have been there 7 times. The flavours were bland and their chille releno was disappointing. It seemed like they grated cheese and opened up a pablano pepper and then put the cheese in there and microwaved it. We went on a Saturday night and the food the service everything was great. We sat outside and the atmosphere was on point. I really appreciated our server she didn't crowd over us or make us feel rushed, she checked in just enough. It was nice to be out and have really good food without having to cook it. This is our Friday night dinner spot. Not a fancy spot but the service and the food is consistently well done. They have Chili Colorado on Friday special and is outstanding. Order as burrito with cheese sauce. Prima's nachos are huge and covered in cheese sauce, seasoned ground beef, and jalapeños if requested. Ala cartel items are very reasonably priced and everything is big. Salsa is good and they also bring out pico de gallo and verde if requested for the light and crispy chips. No cutting corners here on portions. We always try and get the same server but if his section is full, the other servers are just as good. Very friendly. Fast service. read more

Will I go back. Yes. We were seated immediately but the first visit by the waiter took too long. The waiter was friendly but let my glass sit empty and I had to request a refill. Overall the service was a bit slow for my preference. That being said the food is what makes me want to return. The chips are light and the mild salsa served with it has just enough spice to classify as mild but also have full flavor. It also was missing cilantro, a plus for my palate. I had the steak Tuxtla Flat and loved it. The portion size was good for the price paid. The beef was seasoned but not salty. The southwest ranch sauce complemented the seasonings on the meat for an outstanding taste. My wife had the beef Flautas and liked them as well. They too were nicely seasoned and deep fried to a nice golden color that maximized the flavor of the tortilla. Both of our dishes came with guacamole. I do not care for most restaurant guacamole because it is pre-made and has sour cream added to stabilize it. This did not taste like it had a lot of sour cream so the flavor of the avocado could be experienced. read more

The first few times we have been here the food was great and the service was great. Tonight has to be one of the worst dining out experiences we have ever had. We were seated and looking over the menus when our server came over and took our drink orders. He left before I could ask about a coupon for an appetizer. When our drinks arrived I was able to ask about the yelp coupon and he wasn't sure about it and he would have to ask someone. Feeling rushed, we went ahead and ordered our meals. He did come back to let us know we could use the coupon but who wants an appetizer after they get their meal. Our food arrived within in ten minutes of ordering and it was really hot. Trying not to burn our mouths on the First bite, one of the managers asked how everything was. We shook our heads that it was ok. I was waiting on our server to return to ask for the spicy salsa because the burrito I ordered was tasteless. It was heated well but very tasteless. We both agreed that the food was not near the quality and flavor of what we had before. When our server returned he asked if our check was to be one or two and if we needed to go boxes. We said yes along with some spicy salsa because the burrito had no flavor. He just looked at us, left and brought back the check, boxes, salsa and chips. We paid and never saw him again. We asked one of the other servers for a bag to carry our food in but she said she would have to go to the back to get one and seemed really put off by the request. We left with the food in our hands and a bad taste in our mouths. We have never had a sit down meal that has been this rushed. I know this is a special day for Mexican restaurants, but don't rush the people who are there to enjoy the food. read more

My husband and I ate here for lunch on a Thursday passing through town. The atmosphere was nice, clean and we had good service...the waitress was friendly but the food was very lacking in taste. We ordered the fajitas for two and received one container of tortillas and one plate of not enough 'fixins'. She told us it would cost extra for tortillas and for more guacamole.
