I don't normally write bad reviews but our experience was so bad here, I felt I had to. We accidentally ordered from this location instead of the Nixa location and instead of canceling our order, we decided to do the right thing and drive to pick it up. I wish we'd just have bailed on the food. When I arrived, I found our takeout order in a bag, sitting on a counter by the checkout which was also by the front door, unattended. After paying, the worker handed me the bag and said "I guess they put everything in there." While making sure there were 3 dinner-size containers, the cheese dip we ordered, and salsa and chips, I noticed the cheese was barely the size for 1 person. I asked if that was the large that I ordered and they said yes, that it's only 8 ozs. So I said, I can't believe that's the biggest size you have (because that's what I was told on the phone when ordering) and they told me it wasn't. So I had to pay an additional $6 to get the larger size and wait for them to fix that. Then we get home to find that they didn't put the sides in with one of the dinner meals, and all of the food was very cold. We also only had 1 bag of chips and about 6oz of salsa for 3 people to share. Now maybe we're spoiled but at the Nixa location, we get 2 bags of chips and 1 - 8oz salsa per dinner meal every time. So to say we were let down is an understatement. I will never make this mistake again, we will always be going to the Nixa location. read more

New to the area we've been hard pressed to find the same quality authentic Mexican food we'd become accustomed to, growing up in LA county. It took us more than 15 years to find one in Reno, Nv after relocating to Northern Cal. It's usually the small hole in the wall mom and pop shops that make the best authentic Mexican. Starting over in our area of Missouri it's been pizza, pizza, pizza...and gas station food. So we take every trip to the bigger surrounding cities as an opportunity to find our new watering hole, so to speak. Up to this point, it has been disappointing. I miss Cotija cheese, something I've found extremely difficult to find, in restaurants as well as grocery stores. I had hoped to compare Chilaquiles recipes to determine my choice of restaurant but haven't found even one that offers it. With that said, we were directed to try this place during a doctor's appt. Seeing the sheriffs cars in the parking lot was a good sign. It means the locals enjoy the fare. Atmosphere was pleasant enough, though we were seated in a separate room by ourselves. I would've liked to spy the plates on other tables. Sadly, no chilaquiles here either. Service was quick and consistent. A huge portion of delicious homemade chips and salsa. I told hubby to remove them from my presence before I became too full to eat my meal. I ordered beef taquitos w/rice and beans. My husband - a burrito combo. Even in Reno I did not find a better plate of refried beans. They were exactly like my friends grandma made in LA! She didn't speak a word of English, but her food was to die for. The rice was equally good. The taquitos we're crispy, juicy, and flavorful, but the guacamole was a little thin. Thankfully I had the foresight to request no lettuce and tomatoes because many places use lettuce and tomato to cover up the sparse offering of guac. Sure enough, the serving size I received was just sad. Often times fountain drinks are hit and miss, but the formula here is perfect. Perfectly equal in carbonation and flavor. I'd come in just for a Coke, chips & salsa. I'd tell you what my husband thought of his burrito if he could get over the small portions for the price long enough to tell me. He is right. I get times are hard everywhere but these prices do not fit the portions. Which is why I removed a star. I would've removed 2 over my hubby's dissatisfaction, but my lunch was too delicious to ignore. Note to owner: Please offer Chilaquiles & Cotija cheese. Albondigas & Pozole. The wait to be seated/acknowledged was long. The location of where we sat was questionable. The wait for a server was ridiculous. The server was absolutely perfect. The food was sufficient. The cost was reasonable. The cashier added a $1 to our ticket. We will not ever return. With no explanation the cashier added $1 to our ticket as if we wouldn't notice. We feel she stole from us. At the absolute minimum she should have communicated the reasoning behind the additional cost, or the restaurant should have absorbed the $1. I realize it's $1. This review is tough for me. We ordered 4 shrimp cocktails to go (we have family that live here and they've raved about it) and while the food was awesome the service was awful. If you've never had what they call their shrimp cocktail, I recommend it. The food is fresh. So much flavor. And enough of a dish that it satisfies for lunch. The service though We ordered it to go and granted, it was near the end of the lunch hour, it still shouldn't have taken as long as it did. I asked for ONE of the dishes to have extra cilantro. Another person had also ordered to go and when I saw the person who took my order bring a to-go order to the counter and not let anyone know it was there, I let her know. The employees didn't. Eventually our order was brought up and I looked in the bag to make sure my extra cilantro was there (I love cilantro) - it wasn't. I asked him for a side of cilantro and he left, I assumed, to get it. A few minutes later a waitress comes to me to ask me why I need cilantro and she told me they all have the extra cilantro. I informed her only one needed it and I'd still like the extra cilantro I asked for. Another 5 minutes later, I get the side. It took about 45 minutes total. The entire time I was there, there were employees standing around chatting and a girl behind the check out counter did absolutely nothing the entire time. We will go back and order our to go to way in advance of picking up because that shrimp cocktail is amazing. And I'll save my tip for once it's finally given to me and make it appropriate. I always tip beyond 20% and in advance but not here anymore. An update from the following week: took a star off and am sticking with 2 stars. This time we placed the order a half hour before we got there and it was at 11 am so not the busy lunch time and were told it would be ready in 5-10 minutes. It wasn't even ready at the half hour mark but we expected that. We got two shrimp cocktails and a combo meal of two cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. When we got the order, it was minus the extra containers of sour cream and guac that we paid for so I'd recommend you check your order before leaving with it. Everything was covered in melted plastic cheese (velveeta), and just looked unappetizing, and for as quick as the food was delivered, it made me wonder if it was premade and nuked real quick. For what we paid, we shouldn't have left still hungry. I'm hoping this was just an off afternoon. Also, the booth seats were low,and made the the table height come right up to my chest, and I'm 6' 1" tall. We're willing to give them another chance if this was the case. My fellow associates met with our clients at El Puente Mexican which was located conveniently close to our hotel. I don't know a lot about Springfield, MO but I do know Mexican food. We were a party of seven (7). Mr. Duff ordered the fajitas with shrimp, beef and bacon. It was a plateful. Charlie ordered the same with shrimp. I ordered just the flatuas. I wasn't really hungry and plus I was really enjoying the top shelf margarita. Mr. Duff enjoyed his fajitas although he is not a fan of the flour wraps. Charlie also enjoyed his dish and later gave the restaurant 3.5 stars. The flatuas--nothing special. The queso was flavorful and the salsa was authentically good. I would go back. Went back to El Puente after not going for several months. This was a go to at least once a week for my wife and I, typically after church on Sunday. We stopped because we needed a break from always eating out, not because of any issues. El Puente is/was one of the better Mexican Restaurants in Springfield. I was dissapointed in the King Burrito, my usual go to dish. The beef inside the burrito tasted like it was boiled in taco seasoning with no grill flavor at all. Previous orders, the beef was grilled and you could tell they had marinaded the beef. Chips and salsa - chips typically were fresh and warm, today(7/17) they tasted like they we left overs from yesterday. Salsa as usual was good, could have used a bit more cilantro. I have and still would recommend this restaurant, but they seem to have changed to lower quality/ lower cost ingredients. read more

This place is my favorite restaurant in Springfield! They have EXCELLENT margaritas!!! They're way better than the places that seem to just use mixers. The chips, salsa, and queso are all great, also. We usually order the fajitas tiajuana, which is a huge portion of fajita (steak, chicken, and shrimp mixed). With an extra order of tortillas, two adults can definitely split this with no complaints - and at a really reasonable price (if we don't drink liquor, we can get out with a bill under $20 for the both of us). If I order something of my own, it's always the tacos jaliscos (steak tacos) - Those tacos would be my last meal request if I'm ever asked. The staff is always friendly, and usually prompt. Sometimes when they're busy, you have a wait a few to get seated, but it is worth it. They have neat tables that are glass topped with designs underneath, and on some nights there is a man that plays live music - he's hilarious and very entertaining. If you're looking for Springfield-style mexican food like the dreaded mexican villa, this is NOT the place that you want.. this is GOOD mexican food - not tv dinner style burritos. read more

From the time I walked into the restaurant I was not happy with my service. The restaurant was relatively slow, but myself and at least one other group waited to be seated. There wasn't even anybody at the front to speak with and multiple employees saw us, but continued on their own. Once seated, I waited several minutes for anyone to even introduce themselves. I witnessed another group walk in after me and be offered drinks before me. Once I was served, the food was mediocre. The cheese dip was plain and the shrimp was over cooked. Once I finished eating I waited for my check. I walked to the register to pay and waited, again, to be able to pay. Nobody was around the register for a couple of minutes. I wasn't the only person who noticed since there was another guest waiting to pay for the same amount of time. Overall, I was *not* happy with this visit. Great Mexican restaurant in strip mall on the south side. A good friend asked me to give it a shot. The decor is nice, but not over the top elaborate as you find in many Mexican restaurants. A couple sombreros hanging on a hat stand and a wood carving pay counter with nice inlaid table tops which are pretty cool. I guess the cool factor depends on your table our table had a Corona inlay.
